From Radio-online and Arbitron.
The winners and losers from the latest PPM's showing what we already know, most stations gained or lost a tenth of a percentage point or so. What was interesting is the total drop out of former progressive talker , now Sports Talk KFNQ, rating worse than the last month before they pulled the lefty format ; it never got a bump after it's start-up.
Now it's true with the exception of March Madness and possibly any breaking news on the NBA moving back to Seattle, sports talk is a big snooze-fest around here. We've also reported on the validity of Personal People Meters too.
But c'mon, did CBS really think it was going to do any better flipping progressive talk to sports just because they owned the network?
The boom that went bust
Seattle has 3 or so AM sports talkers, along with FM simulcast and suburban stations.
Can it sustain more outlets to talk Norts Spews until Mariner's and Seahawk seasons return, or Sacramento gives up the Kings?
The 2 other sportsters, KIRO 710 and KJR 95 both lost nearly a point from Dec to Feb.
The usual winners or those that play in the top 5 were mostly music KRWM, KQMV, KUOW,KBKS (Kiss 106) and KCMS. Danny Bounaduce is evidently giving #6 KZOK a better share than the Dec book. KUOW got a slight bump from December, KJR FM went from 3.5 in Dec to February' 4.2, probably due to speakers in warehouses being turned back on after the Holiday music blitzkrieg.
KIRO FM did slightly better with it's 3 share going to 3.6, KOMO stayed relatively flat during the 3 months, almost tied with the Too Beautiful To Die, Bonneville station. Fisher's KVI remained flat the entire time with 0.7 share. Another Bonne-ville talker, KTTH dropped from 3.3 Dec. to 2.6 last month. Classic KING FM fell from a 3 to a 2, KMTT went from 2.5 to a 3.0 despite the change-up in long time hosts and management.
Remember how when PPM started KIRO-FM went straight into the tank? And then, voila, for about 24 months KIRO-FM was pretty much #1? And now, crap-sandwich, they are back into the tank?
Wondering if the rumor mill has considered that during those 24 months of glory, a KIRO employee and family may have been wearing PPM meters? Thus, spiking the ratings.
Either that is a possibility, or the entire PPM ratings system is a joke. How else to explain how an entire region could think KIRO is shit for a year; great for 2 years; and now think they're shit again?

Can't believe KIRO punted so early on Curley. How long did he hold the morning spot? 2 Months.

Any way of knowing how specific KIRO shows are doing?

KIRO-FM does have some bright spots when you look at the specific shows in this latest book.
Morning drive is down just inside the drain-hole on the shitter.
9a-12n is sticking to the wax flange underneath the toilet.
12n-3p is sticking to the urinal cake hanging just under the toilet seat rim.
3p-7p is floating just under a brown-poop-yellow-pee-stained wad of soaking Charmin atop the water.
7p-12m is at the King County Sewage Treatment Plant.

The question Mike Barer is why did KIRO work so hard to keep that bombastic right wing asshole on the air in every possible time slot, considering he could not pull ratings at any time of day, and put a successful morning show in the toilet.

I am just amazed at how bad KIRO FM is to listen too!The endless host endorsments, the over modulated tones of Dori, Ron and Don have driven me to NPR in the morning. I will be going almost completly to pod casts soon. I think subcription radio is the future.

I can't believe KMTT gained share. It's gone completely to shit.

A yr ago today KPTQ 1280 Spokane switched from prog talk to classic country. On Apr 11 it switches again to... Fox Sports Radio. "KPTQ has registered a 0.0 share of the audience in the last three ratings books. "

PJL III, I don't have access to the stats, but it wouldn't surprise me if Andrew Walsh was part of the problem. Ugh. And Rich, I agree, Dori's voice is very annoying. He sounds like he's constantly plugging one of his nostrils with his left pinky finger.

Forgot to mention that probably a huge portion of Kiro's numbers are due to Coast to Coast. I am not a huge fan of Noory (no art bell - visit fineartstream.com for 24/7 art), but even Noory is better than the rest of the kiro hosts combined. I listen to C2C at night when the topics are decent, and it's the only reason that I happen to listen to other parts of kiro during the day.

Same here, Broken. I like Noory - well, I like C2C. They've had some pretty good informative radio. I find myself falling asleep to it and waking up intermittently and turning it back on. John B. Wells loses me and I miss Punnet. C2C is a glimmer if intelligence on KIRO.
Adam Walsh? Sounds like high school.

TS, glad to see we can agree on something! John B has a good voice, but he's so annoying especially when he's self deprecating. I feel at times he tries to copy Art, partly because I think he knows he sounds most like Art than any of the other hosts, which is a mistake. Punnet is the best, and always has really interesting topics. Knapp has been growing on me. Noory is alright when he's not talking health issues, but I just have to tune out when his shows are about health and metaphysical (psychics etc) garbage.

I am thoroughly enjoying Bonaduce in the mornings, after what they did to Curley. Now the only program I tune in for is C2C. I can't understand the programming decisions at all. Curley was popular, yet they get rid of him and now I hear the likes of Andrew Walsh and worst of all, Jason Rants, who has a voice like nails on a chalkboard, and seems to get more and more air time. Not sure who's making the decisions, but no doubt many listeners have bolted of late.
