Odds and Ends: KIRO and Savage (again) KUOW

KIRO-FM, Seattle Promotes Andrew Walsh to Evening Host.  Producer and radio personality Andrew Walsh is named the host of the evening program on Bonneville’s news/talk KIRO-FM, Seattle, filling the slot left open when John Curley was promoted to anchor of the station’s morning drive show.  Walsh has been a fill-in host at the station in addition to his work as producer of the “Ross and Burbank Show” and co-host of the “Too Beautiful to Live” podcast with Luke Burbank.  Program director Larry Gifford states, “Andrew continues to impress me with his news sense, story-telling ability, self-effacing humor and unique point of view.  Andrew will be a terrific addition to our daily KIRO Radio

Now on to Savage, also from Talkers  in which the syndicated host appeared on another show, WABC' Aaron Klein's Investigative Radio program and warned fellow conservatives are "committing suicide" by their constant barrage of criticism against President Obama.

“Many people on the conservative side of the dial are making the same mistakes now that the liberals made when Bush was in power,   “Air America went bankrupt, why? Because all they did was…Bush bashing and they were just crazy in the Bush bashing.  Boring.  Boring.  How much could you listen to?  It wasn’t even clever Bush bashing.  This is what’s going on now with the conservatives.  They’re committing suicide.  Just attacking Obama – although he deserves it – is not good radio…Remember one thing, radio is primarily an entertainment medium.  It was not created to be the voice of the Republican Party or the Democrat Party.”

 

Finally, KUOW has replaced the 1-2p segment of the BBC Newshour Mon-Thurs with the Takeaway.

What is The Takeaway? The Takeaway is a one-hour daily newsmagazine hosted by John Hockenberry that features unique conversations about topics of the day with both newsmakers and diverse voices. The program includes content from producing partners at BBC, New York Times and KUOW. Listeners will be exposed to significant, lively and far-from-usual news perspectives. It is produced by WNYC FM in New York City and distributed by PRI in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Takeaway has been in production for over four years and is modeled after BBC newsmagazines which are done live and consist mainly of interviews between the host and guest experts.

Savage's comments are correct and make sense. The GOP need to learn to be smarter and connect with a good cross-section of the electorate if they are going to win future elections.

Constantly demonizing anyone and constant fear-mongering is boring boring and is like trying to catch flies with vinegar... Shit happens and then its time to move ahead.
