We are still blogging lite due to having yet to completely consume all the cookies and other goodies we baked. Here is a quote from former Bush aide, Mark McKinnon:
Former
Bush aide Mark McKinnon on the incredible shrinking Republican Party:
"Increasingly, it is becoming clear that the party is against everything
and for nothing.
"Nothing on taxes. Nothing on gun control.
Nothing on climate change. Nothing on gay marriage. Nothing on
immigration reform (or an incremental, piece-by-piece approach, which
will result in nothing). It's a very odd situation when the losing party
is the party refusing to negotiate. It may be how you disrupt, but it
is not how you govern, or how you ever hope to regain a majority.
"And so, we have a Republican Party today willing to eliminate any
prospect for a decent future for anyone, including itself, if it cannot
be a future that is 100 percent in accordance with its core beliefs and
principles. That's not governing. That's just lobbing hand grenades. If
you're only standing on principle to appear taller, then you appear
smaller. And the GOP is shrinking daily before our eyes."
This is an open thread.
The Republican party is suffering from a malady known as being a 'non-event'. They just can't seem to make themselves useful and it's likely because of the 'good ol boy' syndrome which apparently prevents them from seeing the evolution before them. They're like the elderly who wont succumb to modern technology and learn about the internet and computers; they're stuck in the past.
Sadly (and I say this because of what I feel is the healthy-ness of at least a two-party system) they are melting like the proverbial warming snowman.
If they can hang on as a party until a generation passes, may be they can survive; but that is providing the new generation can re-define the party and gain the respect and hope of the American people. Do I think this might happen soon? Not in my life time, alas, if ever.
R.I.P GOP (you're not grand any more)

We are in a temporary state of disarray. Many of us are still stunned to find how many stupid people there are in this country. It is difficult to find so many people buy in to the lies of the current administration or will tolerate a US Senate that can not put together a budget.
You people put full faith in Social Security yet Bernie Madoff was put in prison for doing the same thing the US government has done with all of that money.
The average households share of the national debt is higher than the average mortgage held by those same households. Yet you don't seem to give a shit. Most people would choke to find their credit card debt at $100,000.00 yet think nothing of their own households share being more.
We just need to wait a little longer. Eventually enough people pull their heads out of their butts and leave the dark side out of respect for the next 4 generations that we are butt reaming out of their futures to feed the greed of the current generation.

The Phoenix writes, "Many of us are still stunned to find how many stupid people there are in this country..." Everyone else is frankly stunned that republicans had this much contempt for our country and its people. .

McKinnon is a Republican consultant. Looking at the results of the election, he is clearly part of the problem.
Interesting that he did not bother to say what he would do - he is supposed to be a consultant and is showing he is incompetent. He is only out for the $$, the smarmy SOB.

Ridiculous post. "Former"says it all. Why is this any different than a "former" democrat who blast that party. Blatherwatch is by far the most biased blog I know.

McKinnon is wrong. As long as there are multinational corporations and a military industrial complex pouring more money into republican campaigns then democratic campaigns there will remain a republican party. It's the golden rule, folks, and it's written into our laws.

I am a libertarian.
The quote: "Nothing on taxes. Nothing on gun control. Nothing on climate change. Nothing on gay marriage. Nothing on immigration reform (or an incremental, piece-by-piece approach, which will result in nothing)."
Could be re-written as: "Pro low-taxes. Pro gun rights. Pro business. Pro same sex marriage." So in my opinion, this guy is just a nay sayer himself.
The question becomes, why can't republicans move more to the center and start dominating the country?
IMO, the problem is that republicans are too religious. But they had better wake up and realize that if they can't stop pushing their morals down everyone's throats then the republican party is split like an apple on Fruit Ninja.
