"KOMO radio weekend anchor Val Stouffer has resigned to take a full-time gig at KIRO FM. For Val, it's a homecoming, of sorts. She formerly anchored the KIRO Afternoon News with Tony Miner, but was fired when the station jettisoned the 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. news-block in Jan. 2005. In the ensuing years, Val did fill-in at KPLU and KZOK before moving to KOMO.
KOMO has also cut Gary Burleigh's weekend sportscasts, opting for canned sports from Total Traffic (formerly Metro Traffic). Gary brought a seasoned broadcaster's personality, energy and style to the weekend programming, (and notwithstanding the fact that he's an old friend, it seems a shortsighted, cheap decision) .

What a goddamned dumbshit company. Was Fisher always this fucked? I do remember the old KOMO was boring as shit--unctuous Larry Nelson oozing his creepy sincerity while playing medium-tempo pop crap like Jim Croce and Carly Simon--but at least back then KOMO wasn't so determined to give their listeners the finger.
Guess you could say the same thing about the dumb pigfuckers at KIRO.
And as I prepare to see Pat Cashman today at the JP Memorial: How could Pat not be on the air? Hell, I'm getting so desperate for a real local person on Seattle radio, I even miss "Ichabod Caine."
[...sorry for the naughty language, JP.]

I always thought the 3-6 PM drivetime newscast was part of what gave KIRO their credibility. Dave Ross and certainly not Ron and Don weren't any improvement on that, not at all.

How does it feel, guy, that the station would rather just keep paying you your contract money to sit at home, and hire another guy to take your place, even though they've now returned to the original format that you were appropriate for ( you weren't a KVI "happy talk " fit) ? I've really neve been able to abide you, though I've tried. I guess i'm not the only one. Thanks for your service.

KOMO's going to get sportscasts from a TRAFFIC reporting company? Is that correct?

That is a common occurrence at radio stations across the country – unfortunately. They report traffic for your market while in another market looking at monitors. And they provide news and sports reports too. Saves money for the station because they figure no one will notice the difference.

I briefly tuned into Monaon at the beginning of his show today...... self-indulgent nonsense , silly musical selections. puerile, inane topics of no consequence and of course no callers anymore, to provide some grounding......This lighter than air, frivolous show content that now constitutes Monson's daily fare, has the feel of a noontime kiddie show, amidst the adult offerings on competing talk staitons, especially in this serious, politically charged saeson, just two months before the election.

Bill Wippel's passing underscores the contrast between the great KIRO of earlier years vs its current incarnation. What a shame.
Now, KVI and J.Carlson have my ears until 9am. I'd listen to Dave Ross after 9am, if it were only Dave Ross...
