Puget Sound Blathers

yes, and like then pres obama and his administration will weigh in.
all in waiting for the facts before acting, you understand...LMAO

Puget Sound Blathers

you know, the part where the administration fired the lady without listening to the whole tape.
john stewart lays it out...
http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-july-26-2010/lost-in-race

Puget Sound Blathers

most salient quote from John Stewart
“Andrew Breitbart may be the most honest person in this entire story.”

Truith-seeker

So you're comparing the Breitbart site's numerous errors with President Obama's believing one? I'll bet President Obama learned his lesson. Did the Breitbart people?

As for Jon Stewart, a quote out of context is meaningless.

Truith-seeker

BTW, name-calling doesn't "approach" delete status. It is either name calling or it isn't.

Puget Sound Blathers

er, no TS
watch the clip. 9 minutes of parody used to deftly reveal truth.
and the quote is fully within context.

but it is interesting that pres obama has a tendency to parachute in on racially charged issues and shoot first and then get all the facts. the professor lewis gates brouhaha with the cops (the tape showed the cops to be innocent); the shirley shirod incident (waiting to listen to the tape until the end as Stewart puts it) and now this tragic case.

lets all just wait for the facts to settle out.

unless your the type that likes to get a conclusion and then find the facts to meet it. probably what got us in trouble in Iraq back in 2002, eh?

much much better to let the facts lead us to the proper conclusion.

Truith-seeker

It is always Obama with you. It's like a fetish.

I don't recall his being off-base over the Gates issue.

And even after it is concluded, you will still be trying to sell your POV.

No, I don't get my news or opinion from Stewart or Breitbart. Actually, I usually make up my own mind.

Anything else?

Ghost of Lee Atwater.

I hear ya puts, I remember doing an ad in which we used a black man in federal custody to libel a governor running for president.

Truith-seeker

If you care, my sources are are rarely Maher, Stewart, Breitbart or any other entertainer. I look to experienced journalists to the best of my ability including the NW Times, Bloomberg, Financial Times, Washington Post, and local papers where events happen. Internet sources tend to be left wing but still journalistic in their pursuits. Radio: Ring of Fire, Rhodes (occasionally), Peter B., Sirota. All of whom (except for Rhodes) take on Obama's decisions regularly as well the those on the right. The magazines to which I subscribe: The Economist, The Atlantic Monthly, The New Yorker, Mother Jones, Rolling Stone(for Matt Taibbi who is doing an awesome series on the banks), and Sunset. Oh, and a couple professional journals and two fabric craft magazines.

So, who do you listen to for your informed opinions? Besides Jon Stewart and blogs I mean?

Truith-seeker

Make that NY Times. Wish we had a good NW Times . . . crosscut and publicola will have to suffice in the meantime.

Puget Sound Blathers

Posted by: Ghost of Lee Atwater. | March 25, 2012 at 05:07 PM

oh yeah, the one picked up from the Al Gore Campaign in 1988?

Truith-seeker

In reviewing this history, it's important to make some crucial distinctions. Gore never mentioned that Horton was black; indeed, he never mentioned Horton by name. He merely drew attention, correctly, to the damaging fact that Dukakis had tolerated a furlough program for especially violent criminals...

Get your facts straight, Puget Sound. That's what I mean by trusting blogs for your information. You really need to read more than the blog-byte.

Puget Sound Blathers

actually, i was going with former Dem Sen Bill Bradley.

"Bill Bites Al On Willie Horton
Bill Bradley and Al Gore traded barbs Thursday over Willie Horton, a convicted murderer whose commission of rape while on furlough was used against presidential candidate Michael Dukakis.

Horton, who was black, became a symbol of racially divisive campaigning and was used in anti-Dukakis campaign ads by George Bush's campaign. Some Democrats called the ads racist.

Bradley said even before Bush's campaign seized on the issue, Gore brought up Horton's name during the primary campaign against Dukakis, who had been governor of Massachusetts when Horton was released from prison.

"Gore introduced him into the lexicon," Bradley told the Boston Herald. "It bothers me a great deal ... I wouldn't have used Willie Horton."

Bradley said that Gore could have found other examples if he wanted to show that Dukakis was soft on crime.

"The racial dimension to that - there were probably a lot of other people who fit into that category," he said."

Truith-seeker

Well, if you read the Salon story, Bradley was wrong. So, your point is...? I linked mine. Why didn't you link yours?

Isn't it nice that we don't have to rely on hearsay like Bradley's to get to the truth?

Link please.

Truith-seeker

From the same article:

Now recall what the Republicans did with Horton's story: An "independent expenditure" group aired an ad for Bush showing a picture of Horton. A Republican fund-raising letter in Maryland showed pictures of Dukakis and Horton alongside the following text: "Is this your pro-family team for 1988?"

KS

It's none of your business what my screen name is.

I don't care what caricature you call yourself, but I'll call bulls**t when you are caught stretching the truth, TS or BR or whoever you portend to be.

Truith-seeker

That's fine, KS. As long as you don't call me names.

KS

How the Fox affiliate got from the quote above to the head line “Witness: Martin attacked Zimmerman” is beyond me.

Posted by: Finis Hominis | March 25, 2012 at 02:59 PM

You left out the fact that the witness claimed to see Trayvon Martin attack Zimmerman. Are you calling that witness a liar ? And if you indeed are, then what is your evidence to the contrary ?

Puget Sound Blathers

yep, that republican stalwart network, CBS

http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-250_162-149346.html

and if you want to talk chris lehane, gore's campaign manager...trust me, you don't want to go there.

LMAO

Truith-seeker

In the 2000 Democratic primary, former Senator Bill Bradley declared that Gore had 'given birth' to Willie Horton in the 1988 New York primary. Gore denied the allegation. So far, no hard evidence has surfaced, such as interviews or position papers, to indicate that Gore ever mentioned Willie Horton specifically.

...Republicans would pick up the Horton issue after Dukakis clinched the nomination. In June of 1988, Republican candidate George H.W. Bush seized on the Horton case, bringing it up repeatedly in campaign speeches. Bush's campaign manager, Lee Atwater, predicted that "by the time this election is over, Willie Horton will be a household name." [1] Media consultant Roger Ailes was reported to remark "the only question is whether we depict Willie Horton with a knife in his hand or without it."

Gosh, there are facts all over the place vindicating Gore. Even on Republican sites.

Looks like it circles back to the post signed by Ghost of Lee Atwater

BlackRhino

Sorry, KS. Truith-seeker is not me. Ask around, I'm sure you'll get the right answer.

Truith-seeker

Puget Sound: Trust by verify.

Truith-seeker

In case you don't understand my last post: trust Bill Bradley but verify Bill Bradley.

From you own source just cited: "Then-Senator Gore raised a legitimate policy issue," said Gore campaign spokesman Chris Lehane in a statement. "He never used any name, referred to race or used an image."

KS: What happened to letting the facts surface before reaching a conclusion?

Puget Sound Blathers

too funny, a member of the gore campaign 'chris lehane' says it didn't happen.

anyone who take s the word of chris lehane over senator bill bradley clearly has no idea of how low chris lehane can go.

but let me help you. i'll even use KOS from the Daily Kos

"Chris Lehane, Major League Ass
by Daily Kos
ShareNew

Chris Lehane has always been an asshole, since back in 2003 when he was fired by the Kerry campaign for being a major league asshole. Kerry's campaign started turning things around almost immediately. Meanwhile, Lehane was picked up by the Clark campaign, where he proceeded to help drag that campaign to the ground -- but not before he played point in the anti-Howard Dean smear effort.

In fact, Lehane has such a reputation as a smear meister, that he and his partner Mark Fabiani are known as the "masters of disaster".

Now, Lehane is working with the Hollywood studios to do what he does best -- smear the opposition. In this case, that's the writers.

But the fallout is already beginning, SEIU has already canned his ass, and the rest of his union client roster will likely soon follow while any such work in the future won't be there.

Not that Lehane will weep too much. There's probably more money on the union-busting side. Just ask Hillary's top advisor -- Mark Penn -- about that.

Less promising for the studios, however, is that Chris Lehane has become the story here, and without his ability to wield his dark arts in the shadows, his effectiveness is short-circuited. There's no PR value in hiring a master of sleaze when everyone sees you do it in broad daylight.

Email your favorite shows to demand they settle with the writers by clicking here."

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/12/11/420649/-Chris-Lehane-Major-League-Ass

Truith-seeker

We are not arguing whether or not Lehane is a smear tactician. So far, your claims equal zero. You targeted Gore. You missed your mark. Now you try redirection.

I think this conversation has come to an end. Unless someone else wants to circle. It is good exercise for the brain.

Puget Sound Blathers

i didn't target Gore, Senator Bill Bradley did. I just reported what he said.

facts can be pretty damn inconvenient, eh?

too funny.

Puget Sound Blathers

here is another smear by Chris Lehane, he was the one who brought out the false 'John Kerry Girlfriend' story.

pretty sleazy.

http://nymag.com/nymetro/news/politics/national/features/9221/index4.html

kind of funny, when the lady in question confronts Lehane he has to take a powder.

Finis Hominis

I posted the full report from the WTVT, anyone can click the link and read the post. There is no quote in that article which is attributed to the witness stating he seen the moment of the attack. Like I said, there is at least one other witness who can attest to the confrontation and a young lady who said she was on the phone at the time of the engagement. There is also a 911 conversation, of which Zimmerman was advised not to pursue, but he did. If you have the quote of a witness which can certify what you say is true, by all means post it. Better yet; alert the Justice Department. I hear they are looking for just that person.

KS

Rick Santorum apparently agrees with the rush to judgment as shown by a number of leftists; (Another reason why I do not support him for POTUS) -

by Joel Pollak
"Republican presidential contender Sen. Rick Santorum appeared on CBS' Face the Nation this morning and pronounced George Zimmerman guilty of murder in the first degree.

Admitting that he was "not privy to what’s going on in someone’s mind," Santorum nevertheless said that Zimmerman, who shot and killed teenager Trayvon Martin while participating in a neighborhood watch last month, "has a very sick mind who would pursue someone like this." He added that Zimmerman's motive had been "malicious."

The mental state of the alleged perpetrator, the motive, and the question of whether he pursued the alleged victim, are both critical in determining guilt. Santorum's conclusions are consistent with first-degree murder under Florida law.

As a lawyer, Santorum ought to know that Zimmerman would be entitled to a presumption of innocence if he were facing trial--and he has not even been charged with a crime.

Santorum was attempting to deflect a standard mainstream media "gotcha" question about whether he believed the shooting had been motivated by race. Santorum ducked the trap--but, in an attempt to express outrage at Martin's death, walked into another.

It ought to be possible to express sympathy with Martin and his family, and a desire to see justice done, without prejudging the outcome of ongoing investigations, and without playing into the racial and political hysteria whipped up by the president and the left in yet another attempt to divide Americans."

Finis - you are doing a fine job of chasing your tail - what are you talking about ?

What Finis neglected to show in that same article;

"The guy on the bottom who had a red sweater on was yelling to me: 'help, help…and I told him to stop and I was calling 911," he said.

Trayvon Martin was in a hoodie; Zimmerman was in red.

The witness only wanted to be identified as "John," and didn't not want to be shown on camera.

His statements to police were instrumental, because police backed up Zimmerman's claims, saying those screams on the 911 call are those of Zimmerman.

"When I got upstairs and looked down, the guy who was on top beating up the other guy, was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point," John said.

Zimmerman says the shooting was self defense. According to information released on the Sanford city website, Zimmerman said he was going back to his SUV when he was attacked by the teen.

Sanford police say Zimmerman was bloody in his face and head, and the back of his shirt was wet and had grass stains, indicating a struggle took place before the shooting."

You left out the fact that the witness claimed to see Trayvon Martin attack Zimmerman. Are you calling that witness a liar ? And if you indeed are, then what is your evidence to the contrary ?

KS

From today's Orlando Sentinel;

"By Rene Stutzman, Orlando Sentinel

With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk, leaving him bloody and battered, law-enforcement authorities told the Orlando Sentinel.

That is the account Zimmerman gave police, and much of it has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities say. There have been no reports that a witness saw the initial punch Zimmerman told police about."

Note the last paragraph. Still haven't had enough ?
I have and am ready to move on.

nameless

KS, you haven't disproved the argument Finis layed out. You have reinforced it. By the way, you may want to look for another right wing hack, Rene Stutzman was cut down on MSNBC tonight.

Truth-seeker

Haha! Stutzman writing as factual a situation she didn't see and hasn't been proven. Kind of like the Sound continuing to post as factual a Bradey account that isn't. Something about the right...

Roberoo

This is a simple exercise in logic.. One guy had a gun, the other did't, one guy was an adult, the other was a 17 year old who's father lived in the gated community.
One guy shot and killed the other and now a 17 year old young black man is gone forever! FOREVER.. and you people that side with Zimmerman are racist and flippin air-heads. I don't want to get along with animals who can't think your way out of a paper bag.. piss you off ? Well shoot me you inbred, toothless, uneducated slob! Just remember, I might shoot first.....

Chucks

If some of you folks were just half as interested in black on black violent crime, this whole long thread might have had some value. At least now that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are in town, we can look forward to the public calming down and allowing justice to take its natural course. There will be no political influence from The Department of Justice in the investigation. Who knows where the Florida state law enforcement will come down on this.incident.
It is common knowledge that a 6'2" 17 year young man, especially a black kid is no threat to anybody. None of them in prison for violent crime. (I will not insert a racist fact, that would include robbery, murder or other violent assaults that are committed by 15 to 21 year old black men in this nation)
Unlike the rest of you, I was not there and only know what the press has told me. They never get it wrong either. I was thinking that Zimmerman should actually get his day in court before being convicted. I will defer to those of you that were there as to whether Trayvon Martin did in fact attack Zimmerman or not.
Maybe he is is just as guilty as the Lacrosse team or the heathens that attacked Miss Tawana Brawley. Screw it! We don't need no freaking facts.

Chucks

Roberoo, I think you will need to undo the italics.

Puget Sound Blathers

kind of interesting, watching 'dave in lynwood' reaching so hard and falling so short. whatsamatter, dave? your racist meme not resonating?

BTW, looks like Al Sharpton is taking a powder...he might be smelling a potential Tawana Brawley situation.

"On Easter Sunday the Rev. Al Sharpton, an MSNBC host, broke a major promise he made to those supporting him and the family of slain teenager Trayvon Martin: He didn’t show up in Sanford, Fla., to “occupy” the town.

On March 26 Sharpton vowed to “occupy” Sanford over Easter weekend to show support for Trayvon, the 17-year-old black teen who was shot by Hispanic neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman on Feb. 26.

“We’re going to have a full blown occupation of Sanford with tents and everything over Easter weekend until [authorities] either arrest George Zimmerman, or arrest us for praying for his arrest,” Sharpton told ABC News about two weeks before Easter.

On Easter weekend, however, Sharpton is nowhere to be found in the central Florida town. Instead, according to his Twitter feed, he’s in Harlem.

“On my way to MSNBC to do the Melissa Harris Perry Show live at 11 15 AM EST,” Sharpton said in a tweet on Easter morning around 10:30 a.m. “Then I preach the Easter services at St. Lukes Baptist in Harlem.”

Sharpton also spent Saturday in Harlem, according to his Twitter feed. “I speak at the Saturday Action Rally at the House of Justice,” Sharpton tweeted around 7 a.m. on Saturday. “Tune in live from 9-11 AM EST at http://www.nationalactionnetwork.net.”

The “House of Justice” is located in Harlem.

It’s unclear why Sharpton chose to abandon supporters of calls for “Justice for Trayvon.” Neither National Action Network spokeswoman Rachel Noerdlinger nor MSNBC spokesman Jeremy Gaines responded to The Daily Caller’s requests for comment on why he broke his promise.

The reason may be related to recent disclosures about the Martin shooting — facts which have not mirrored the point of view presented by Sharpton and his allies. Since Sharpton first promised he would occupy Sanford over Easter weekend, several elements of his favored storyline have fallen apart.

A video record of Sanford police taking Zimmerman into the town’s lockup shortly after the Martin killing shows what appears to be a gash or wound of some kind on Zimmerman’s head, plainly visible in the footage.

Controversial filmmaker Spike Lee tweeted the address of what he thought was Zimmerman’s house. It turned out to be an innocent elderly couple’s home, and Lee subsequently made a public apology and provided a financial settlement with the couple for potentially putting them in danger.

CNN’s audio experts have walked back their audio analysis that determined Zimmerman muttered the racist phrase “fucking coons” on the 911 call he made shortly before he shot Martin. They later conceded that Zimmerman more likely said “fucking punks.”

NBC News has fired a producer who selectively and deceptively edited that same 911 call for broadcast, to make it appear as though Zimmerman inserted Martin’s race into the discussion. It was, in fact, the 911 operator who first asked Zimmerman if the teenager was “black, white or Hispanic.” Zimmerman responded: “I think he’s black.”

ABC News and CNN have both come under fire, too, for how they handled certain elements of the case.

Since Sharpton made that now-broken promise to “occupy” Sanford over Easter weekend, it has been discovered that Zimmerman is a registered Democrat.

While he is an Hispanic man, he was often originally described incorrectly as “white” or even “white Hispanic.”

And The Daily Caller broke news that Zimmerman advocated for the disciplining of at least two of the police officers investigating him. That demand stemmed from the brutal beating of a homeless black man by a white police officer’s son. Zimmerman led demands for justice for that victim, Sherman Ware, and distributed flyers throughout the black community.

People who hide their true identity have no credibility to begin with and don't like accountability either. It will be fun to go back and see this post in the archives.

Dave in Lynwood

On the contrary Puget Sound, much of what you post as well as some of the others illustrates my point quite well. I said the "yes but" defense suggests that any black person who looks for justice for a black victim only cares about their race. You mocked Sharpton for going to Florida, you mock him again for not going. You attempt to reduce him in our eyes by bringing up some of the mistakes he has made in his life. It is the classic "yes but" defense.

Puget Sound Blathers

nice try, dave.
as KS puts it: It will be fun to go back and see this post in the archives.

Puget Sound Blathers

the deal is this, dave et al, we need to let the investigation continue and then see what we have.
folks like 'truth'seeker, dave, coiler, finis, among others had this rush to judgement. one that could cause serious harm to others with addresses being tweeted, etc. you have the black panthers putting a bounty on Zimmerman and the Nazi types coming down to the area to restore order. ironically, the nazy folks have said that zimmerman is not white.

we already have one young man dead, do we need to have others be injured?
dave, why do you have a problem with the fact that zimmerman is hispanic? way before this incident, he had been involved helping african americans much more then you probably ever have. how bout the fact you have NBC having to fire one of its producers for misconduct related to this case? or that cnn has to walk back attributing a racial epithet uttered by zimmerman that turned out to be way off?

this is the gabby giffords case redux. very sad.

KS

Furthermore, NBC will not divulge who that producer was. They continue to act irresponsibly for 1) claiming it was a mistake (they must think we are all stupid to believe that - just like the Obama evidently does with his false statements of the past week) and 2) For not giving the name of this liar of a producer who will go to work for some other company and continue to post unmitigated lies, without having to be accountable or us even knowing who he is.

Maybe boycotting NBC or threatening them by advertisers would help expose who this producer is.
