In an exclusive interview in the Orange County Register, the popular, debased, FM crotchshocker Tom Leykis just might be on to something...
He's announced he's returning to talk April 2 on any or every device ... except radio. He writes:
"Radio doesn't want you to have this show. Tough shit. We will be heard anywhere and everywhere in the world for the first time. This will be a problem for many."
His Tits & Ass radio will be live streamed to his avid fan base from here, and on Facebook sans all the old terrestial impediments, and prudish local station censors.
When we start the new Tom Leykis Show on April 2nd, we will decide where we are heard and where we are not. No more moving time slots (remember Seattle?), no more changing stations (four stations in Portland in 13 years), no more cancellations (New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Phoenix, San Diego), no more format changes (Los Angeles and Dallas) and no more cities blacked out (Houston, Atlanta, Boston, Washington, DC, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, New Orleans, and more).
Leykis lost his show from which he launched his syndicated program when CBS flipped their LA mother station, KLSX from talk to Top 40. He has honored his lucrative non-compete to make talk-talk with CBS; it runs out in March.
He's amused himself in the meantime doing a wine show called The Tasting Room with Tom Leykis for the last seven years, and created a new enterprise called The New Normal, which includes 24/7 Internet music streams.
For all his crude asinity, he's no fool: here are some observations about radio
The truth is that the talk radio that is currently on the air in Southern California primarily attracts an audience over age 45 with a majority of listeners who are 65 and over. I'm not saying that this demographic shouldn't have talk shows to listen to. It's just not what I prefer to be doing at this moment. Our audience is men 18-44. Men under 45 are still looking for talk shows to listen to that speak to them. I'm not saying that I wouldn't ever work in radio. At some point, when the economy improves, someone will realize that there was (and still is) a large audience of tech-savvy younger men who care about more than just sports. And, looking at the recent ratings, not many young men are listening to the sports talk shows that are currently available in Southern California either. Also: over the last three years, I have seen the future and it doesn't include clumsy old technology, static, or patriotic Michael W. Smith concerts. Or infomercials. What we are doing is cutting edge, groundbreaking, exciting, and without limits.
H/T to TC
Internet radio is an interesting concept. I haven't seen any figures on how "Outlaw Radio" is doing. By it is a decent product.

Does this leave the door open for his new show to appear on satellite radio? This would be following the model of TMZ Live , a daily hour or somewhat less of gossip talk, done from the TMZ offices. The show can be watched live on TMZ.com or watched as a video podcast at the viewers pleasure on the website, or the audio portion of the show can be heard live on Sirius satellite radio. I'm betting Leykis is aiming for satellite, in addition to internet live and internet podcast, as the ad revenue from internet radio is not exactly eye-popping. In the past Leykis said he would never do his show again with any kind of cut in psy, but since this is a brand new delivery method for the show produced entirely by his New Normal Network i guess hes willing to do it as a labor of love, at least until it starts rolling. I'm already used to hearing Gary and Dino , his former call screener and producer, use obscene language on the New Normal's Gary and Dino Show, so i'm erady to hear Tom go x-rted now too. G and D aer two jocular, funloving guys, but hey aer not Laykis. The king's return will surely put them in their place-subservience.

Repackaged drek.
Posted by: Walt | January 08, 2012 at 05:16 PM
Of course, my past didn't include Michael W. Smith concerts, either.

Indeed, while Leykis kept up on technology, his demographic is not interested in hearing him talk about how pathetic their lives are because they don't make 200-300k while the economy took a big dump and have now reset their brains to follow Occupy Wall Street, which is absolutely more fascinating than his " I get more tail for less money" dogma. He was losing stations based on ratings.

Tom comes back not a moment too soon, to put the little ladies of America in their place and to be a voice once again for men's rights and respect for the American male. Women are really feeling their oats these days, getting all contemptuous and superior toward men becsue they now have the edge in college graduation numbers and job hires in several of the highest paying, hot new career fields. I've noticed a palpable change, a new arrogance, at least among white females, who have always been the least respectful toward men among all female ethnicities. I finally decided to dump my old Starbucks this weekend because its run by a resentful, forty something beeyotch who constantly calls men "my dear". Who calls an adult male unde the age of 85 "my dear"? ridiculous and asinine. I've used my logical reasoning to deduice that she does this as a convenient ploy to avoid ever having to call a man "sir". Leykis will be exposing clownish beeyotches liek this and other women who need to be publicly called out, as wel as of course many many more diverse topics.

if Harvey Levin and the black guy with the dreads can get an hour live on Sirius Satellite Radio with their lame discussions of Katy Pery's latest antics and J. Lo's new boytoy, then its almost a given now that the Leykis show Will go to satellite in addition to the web, sooner rather than later, i'd say. The show will stay exclusively on the internet for 6 moths or so , while they break it in and gett rolling- once Tom is back to his old form its a perfect fit for Sirius, as a simulcast on the New Normal Network (internet radio) and Sirius . Don't think the hochos at SSR don't know this.

Pffft -- yeah, listen to Leykis, and soon you, too, can have four or five divorces under your size 52 belt!
Hint: The inability to get along with an entire population has one common denominator, and it ain't them.

it would be a true thing of beauty if Leykis came on board with SiriusXMRadio and shared the same studio with Dr. Turkeyneck, Laura Schlesinger, who according to an artile from last spring is doing great with her show, now on Sirius. Turkeyneck exiting at 3p.m. and Leykis entering at 3p.m. Leykis . Dr. Turkeyneck and Tommy go way back, to the days when they both did shows on the same terrestrial radio station decades ago. Since then Leykis has ridiculed her on his show and even made fun of her son, to the point where i think Dr. T threatened to sue Leykis or his station.

Tom is all about the money. He is no dummy and realizes an internet -based model won't put many shekels in his pocket unless he transitions to Satellite radio.
That being said I wonder how he has "aged" in the past years; is he out of touch or ready to teach 101 to a new crop of students?

i discovered a treasure trove of tapes of old Leykis shows on Celebrity net worth. com and im listening in hoor of Tommy coming onwithhis new show in April. He's talking abouthte "parade of beaten dogs" that aer pussywhipped BY WOMEN, and how to put your foot down with woMEN. I FORGOT HOW GOOD THE SHOW WAS. THIS NEW tOMMY SHOW IS GOING TO BE THE BOMB.
Posted by: Tommy008 | January 08, 2012 at 11:28 PM
i think i have to say in all honesrt Leykis is engaging ina bit of hyperbole, shall we say spraypainting a load of horsecrap gold, when he talks about the new show in the article. He's ooming back on an internet radio show, exactly liek Adam Carolla did, and is doing now. Its not something never been done, Adam did it 3 yeaRS AGO. I must say im disappointed that tOM couldnt come back with a traditional radio network. The difference between Tom and Adam is that i fully expect him to move to satellite and simulcast with his internet show IN 6 MONTHS OR SO. Tom is a much bigger talent than Adam.

Leykis is a misogynist asshole. As Tommy008 has outlined so well, there's a market for that.
Posted by: Norm | January 09, 2012 at 09:30 AM
Of course there's a market for it. One of Leykis' former Seattle stations, KISW, runs "The Men's Room" in afternoon drive with basically the same formula: puerile sexual references, advice to guys looking to get laid, and other testosterone-poisoned festivities. It's the anti-Oprah, and it's part of the traditional talk radio format of blaming somebody else for your problems. Timeless appeal in that.
Posted by: Pete | January 09, 2012 at 09:37 AM
Tom was entertaining and will have that audience again - now that he is 50-something, approaching 60, with a refined Leykis 101 no doubt. He has that inner misogynist a-hole going as he even admitted that before. It would be good if he could evolve beyond the Leykis 101 to more intellectual avenues because he has the talent and the smarts.
Disagree w/ T008 - Adam Carolla is a bigger talent because he appeals to those who are Leykis fans who are anti-Oprah and those who like entertainment without an axe to grind. Carolla has an edge, but he has a great mind and is creative and cutting edge. His book "In Fifty Years, we'll all be chicks" lays it out well and he did a great 7-minute rant aimed at the Occupy Movement last month and the millenials from college that are part of them and made excellent points with a number of f-bombs thrown in to match up with today's culture.
Posted by: KS | January 09, 2012 at 07:15 PM
Pete while i will admit that the mens room on KISW is not everyones cup of tea, your heavy handed portrayal of them is grossly unfair. I have never heard three men on the radio with more natural chemistry, they are comfortable with themselves, know each other well and are funny, every day. At least half of their jokes are on themselves. They are not PC, not about minorities, humor, unlike the typical vaginized seattle male. Their ratings are consistently at the top of seattle afternoon drive time. They dont blame anyone else for their problems. Feel free to not listen, but dont come here and pretend to know what their show is about.

Tom Leykis became irrelevant as a talk show host ever since he switched over to "All T&A Talk All the Time.". He had a great show when it started on KING 1090 and then the Buzz up until the late 90's. He's just a washed up old hack now! New show, same old crap!
Posted by: J. | January 15, 2012 at 01:34 PM
i'm goign to give his new show a chance. Maybe he'll get rid of some of the most objectionable and shallow crap froM his old show while still retaining a balls out "man show" atmosphere. If he can't transition to SAtelLite RADIO with a 7 figure contract within a years time, then he really has become a washed up hasbeeN and A HYPOCRITE. That would mean he's going baCk on his pronouncement that he would never do a new radio show again for a cut in pay froM his CBS SALARY. LAST TIME I HEARD INTERNET RADIO PAYS PEANUTS FOR THE HOSTS, BECAUSE THE AD REVENUE JUST ISN'T THERE. aLSO, BEFORE HE GOT LAID OFF, HE USED TO SNEER AT INTERNET RADIO TALK SHOWS. TAKE IT TO SATELLITE TOM, OR IM CALLING BULLCRAP.

Ding Dong Dori now does vaudeville show-esque clips of smalltime mayors makingg asses of themselves with reporters or clownish singers hitting sour notes now, to fill in the time that used to be filled by callers. Wow, who knew ? A real laff riot Dori. Ding Dong Dori continues his seventies era talkradio show (now without callers!)while Leykis enters the twenty first century with his new show on 4/2/12. If you're stuck with Dori for your early afternoon listenign , after APRIL2 you will be able to go onto the Tom Leykis Channel, on the internet, and listen to a continuous loop of the previous day's Leykis show, and then at 3 p.m. catch the new show atreaming live. It's going to be great, Johnson.
