Not only was KVI an oldies station twice before its recent return to all-talk, but it made news in 1980 when it flipped the first time to blabber in order to compete with KOL and Hardwick.
It was just as music was leaving AM, to land permanently on the FM dial. Rush Limbaugh wasn't to arrive for another decade -- things were looking scary for AM.
Some things never change- the new Operations Manager seemed anxious to "fill quotas" of female listeners by hiring a "clinical psychologist, preferably female" for middays.
Such notables as Jack Morton, Peter B., and Robert O. Smith were already at the station. The music jocks were "encouraged to develop new skills for the new format or move elsewhere."
Of course, it flipped back at least once to oldies back then, famously, back to talk in 1992. Then again to oldies in 2010, then back to talk last month.
H/T to SeaTac Radio.com
Before podcasting, XM/FM/ and even before Ghost to Ghost, on the overnight Larry King with the Mutual Broadcasting System was dominant. That would have been a major coup for KVI.
I 'like' the plan to hire a psychologist, preferably female as referenced in the article.
I guess this is why later on Frasier Crane ended up over on KACL instead of KVI. (Warning Just Joking: Usual Suspects need not rush to type out how Frasier Crane is a fictional character)
But hiring by gender still goes on and explains why if you listen to sports radio the number of female hosts is almost nil. Elise W does well as host or co host with Gas. Listeners will tune in to a host -no matter the gender- if they are interesting and knowledgeable.
(Warning the above is called a 'Transition': Usual Suspects need not whine about same in an attempt to play Thread Cop)

You did a very good job, PS. Glad you understand now.

PS, It seems like you can either take the last comment as an affirmation or the usual sarcasm. What say you ?

KS, for now I am going to assume that Sparky has matured and seen the error of her ways.
Lets watch how it pans out.

Does anyone at Fisher actually expect the latest KVI to work?
I'm sure Scott Carty is a nice man. But he sounds as phoney as Eddie Haskell, as bland as Ward Cleaver, as dumb as Lumpy Rutherford and as goody-two-shoes as Wally.
Instead of The Buzz, he should just call that show The Beav.
