Will KVI be flipping back (re-flipping, de-flipping?) from oldies to talk coming soon? The answer, which is electrifying the tiny universe of those who care about such things is... probably.
It's only been about a year since the station blew up its venerable talk format for really, old, oldies music. Guess the The 0.3 share must have given Fisher a clue that something wasn't working. (like maybe the people who remember that old music were all dead?)
The word on the street is they will go all-Xmas music after Thanksgiving, and when that gratefully lets up, January 1st they will flip to talk.
This could be some good news for those who'd like to hear some cool, innovative live & local, but our faith and expectations that Fisher would spend any money doing that is lower than a part-time board-op.
Will KVI just be the drapes to match the wallpaper that is KOMO? As our Magic 8 Ball opines: "No evidence to suggest otherwise."
Fisher Radio: surprise us, please.
if they brought on Adam Carolla, then they would have something !
Otherwise, I'll react when it happens.

Hey, I remember all that old music KVI is playing. It's what they were playing on "Solid Gold!" oldies stations when I was a kid.

I know I am in the teeny minority that likes to listen to oldies, especially from the 60s. Im sorry they are taking away the one thing that makes a Seattle radio station a little different. If they go to the format you envision, then they are just another low quality AM station with no reason to listen. There are dozens of mediocre talk stations with low ratings. Why can't they offer something for a different demographic? No wonder radio is dying.

I sure would love to have some Kirby in the morning, Carlson in the midday and Suits in the afternoon.
Posted by: Puget Sound Blathers | November 18, 2011 at 05:03 PM
Do they still have Suits under contract?
Posted by: drool | November 18, 2011 at 05:59 PM
Suits and Corolla - a winning combination. Oops - i need to pinch myself - this is KVI and the Seattle radio market.

Looks to me like Fisher is devoting about the same level of expertise planning the flip to the all new KVI talker that they did to hatching oldies KVI. It's what we used to call "about a year's worth."

See if KVI can bring Kim Komando, Larry Kudlow & Bob Brinker back to Seattle weekend radio. I'd like to hear KVI add The Motley Fool Show to their line-up. Not to mention Real Estate Today w/Gil Gross. Furthermore, i'd like to hear KVI air The C.A.R. Show. I'd also like to hear KVI air The Money Pit Home Improvement Radio Show. As far as TOH Network News Goes, KVI can air NBC News Radio from 3AM-7PM Mon.-Fri. while ABC News Now from ABC News Radio nights & weekends. Note that NBC News Radio is from Dial Global Radio Networks.

12th Man- your wish list is a pipe dream. Kim Komando is already on KTTH. Bob Brinker might be in the realm of possibility though.
Don't forget, this is KVI, Fisher Broadcasting. Unless actually do some strategic planning for once, these ideas will all fly over their heads.

Now, where the hell will Gina and I go to hear ? and the Mysterians?
Posted by: chucks | November 18, 2011 at 11:57 PM
The flip is confirmed - Fisher ad reps sent out letters to advertisers.
The format won't be conservative or liberal talk - it'll be "lifestyle talk".
Mark Christopher and Elisa Jaffe will be on the morning show, and the rest will be "safe" syndication like Clark Howard.
The flip happens 1/3/12.

radio-info.com:
http://www.radio-info.com/news/fishers-kvi-seattle-570-to-debut-smart-talk-after-christmas
>>lifestyle, health, local and entertainment news. We anticipate the core audience will be adults 35-64. Hosts Mark Christopher and KOMO 4 TV’s Elisa Jaffe will start out the day with 'Sunrise Seattle,' (a Good Morning America-type program) and other hosts including Clark Howard, Phil Hendrie (comedy-oriented), The Buzz featuring Scott Carty, and a WSJ Daily Wrap will inform and entertain listeners.

The new KVI sounds more middle of the road - which is seriously lacking in this radio market. Clark Howard is good informational and so would Bob Brinker.
Hendrie is so-so/why does he feel compelled to make up interviews when there's so much crap out there that would qualify as "you can't make this stuff up". He tries to set himself apart by creating his own characters, but compromises quality in doing that, IMHO.

Lifestyle talk...jeez, if they want to go that route why not put on Ghost to Ghost, and best of Art Bell.
Brinker is fine on the weekend, but gimme a break: Clark Howard? Anyone excited about Phil Hendrie?
Why is it that Seattle can ably support TWO local Sport Talk Radio Stations and the local Talk Radio market is limping along.

Fisher Broadcasting is ready to lay another egg ? Replace Phil Hendrie with Bryan Suits and they might get a rating of higher than 0.3. For oldies, try KJR-FM 95.7 and the morning show with Bob Rivers is the best local one around.
Posted by: KS | November 19, 2011 at 12:58 PM
Bryan Suits? Pleeeze...so turn of the century Iraq invasion dated.... pure irrelevance and angry white guy posing... if KOMO had any balls they would bring aborad the new Tom Leykis Show, debuting the first week of April 2012, when his 3 year contract with CBS runs out.......h

the PHIL HENDRIE MOVE IS FANTASTIC.......
Posted by: Tommy008 | November 19, 2011 at 01:12 PM
I'd take Adam Carolla over Leykis any day. Hendrie - not an intellectual listen, to be sure...
Posted by: KS | November 19, 2011 at 01:41 PM
Well, if KVI is looking for a board-op for phones/contests/show-prep since talk is apparently back...im ready and able to handle the reins again. KVI has my number!

Phil Hendrie is the greatest comedic talent in the history of radio, but his best work is most likely behind him. IMHO he never quite got his groove back after "retiring" in '06 and then changing his mind a year or so later. Still, I welcome his return to the Seattle market. He's always at least interesting.
Posted by: MarciaFS | November 22, 2011 at 05:30 PM
i donb't want to keep having to search through other radio station a-philiates to hear Steve Bozell crying and whimpering on the air. Hendrie's master's touch is coming back, with some of his recent bits approachuing the hilarity of his glory years.

Don't you understand that it's high time to receive the personal loans, which can make you dreams real.
