Chucks

I have some concerns about an alleged Army Sergeant not being able to spell the title of those under his command.
As for blind gays, at least there would be no valid concern about him or her looking at other soldiers junk. (unless looking via braille)

The Original Andrew

"at least there would be no valid concern about him or her looking at other soldiers junk"

why is that a valid concern in the first place?

SGT USARMY

I was never a big speller chucks. So I rely on this phones spell checker. If I had those skills I would have gone to collage. But I hope the misspelling gives you a laugh.

Chucks

Just a timid smile sarge.
Andrew, I was just playing off of your comment.
But why would a man starring at another mans penis be any different than having your eyes directed towards your admin assistants chest while talking to her?
Andrew, I really do not care. It is just a question. If you want to join the military and serve our nation, go ahead. I will thank you for serving.

The Original Andrew

If a gay guy hits on other enlistees I assume he will written up or whatever it is they do. It's not rocket science.

"Why doesn't the army simply put divisions between the shower heads if they're so concerned about it?'

you mean like they do for males and females. that would be an excellent idea. But why not just make them all uniex showers Andrew. Why do you seem to have a problem with what a female doesnt like but not a straight male. Another double standard there Andrew.

Talking to my friend, who's last assignment was as company commander in great Lakes, he says open bay showers are still the routine in boot camp. Maybe not ships but he gave me this bit of detail that ships "Heads" (bathrooms) are designed to accommodate 72 sailors with 5 sinks. 2 urninals, 3 toilets, and 3 showers in space about 10 x 20 feet. Close encounters of the third kind if you ask me.

Only harassment and fratinization is of a concern in the services Andrew. Simply asking for a date or dating is not against any rule unless there is an unduly relationship involved. Now harassment is another thing. Like chucks says, a case could be made by simply looking. But my guess is that the situation would be taken care of the old fashion way instead of any legal routine. Nice that the Military has impleneted thier own form of "cage fighting"

"Why do you seem to have a problem with what a female doesnt like but not a straight male."

Policy isn't strictly about principle, it's also about practicality. DADT itself is a practical policy, deciding that gays were only a problem once they had been discovered as such.

Somewhere between 5 to 10 percent of the population is gay. It's much more practical to ask gay servicemen to not sexually harass on other men than it is to ask the remaining 95% of straight men to do the same in a shower with other women.

Along the same practical lines, it's probably easier for the military to install dividers between shower heads than maintain a which hunt for gays, and risk lowering their headcount whenever one is found.

"designed to accommodate 72 sailors with 5 sinks. 2 urninals, 3 toilets, and 3 showers in space about 10 x 20 feet. Close encounters of the third kind if you ask me."

When you act as if these shared showers can't be fixed, or changed for the better over time, or that they can't schedule the gay men to shower seperately or alone, it becomes obvious you're just looking for excuses to keep gays out of a predominantly conservative inistution. The military has solved much tougher problems than this.

I never said anything to the contrary.

Again, is there a ghost writer out there.

Andrew, next year when the Navy pulls a ship into seattle for seafair, take a tour and tell me how they are going to fix this problem you speak so casually about with no knowledge. I have at least some first hand knowledge from friends. All you have is a gay friend who thinks the world should stop everything so he can exhibit his sexual confusion to the populace.

Sleeping with bears

And Andrew, i see you are making it a conservative issue again. Didnt you read chucks post about his place of work and the argument he overheard and who was arguing in favor of keeping the gays out of the services. Trying reading the posts twice over once in a while. these posts will not become distorted over time like them french fries in that mcDoanlds deep fat fryer you attend to everyday.

Obama in Cincinnati today rousing up support for his Jobs plan.

"Now, we used to have the best infrastructure in the world here in America. We’re the country that built the Intercontinental Railroad, the Interstate Highway System. (Applause.) We built the Hoover Dam. We built the Grand Cen... Wait, was that Intercontinental railroad he said. Wow when did this happen. Last time i made plans to go to Europe i had to fly. i had no idea there was a railroad that crossed the Atlantic Ocean. Hold on, maybe he meant the Pacific ocean. My bad.

I don't have first hand knowledge of a public shower? Are you fucking kidding? Every local pool has one.

First, I read less than half of chucks posts.

Second, suppression of gay rights IS a conservative issue. Look at the polls sometime.

Third, I don't work in the food service industry.

Puget Sound Blathers

Having spent a number of years in the Military prior to DADT -and seeing good people kicked out- I can say a few things about it.
Initially, it was a proposed Executive Action by Pre Clinton to allow Gays/Lesbians to serve openly. It was opposed by 'Moderate' Republicans like then General Powell and the Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, Dem Sen Sam Nunn (one of the last conservative Dems).
Pres Clinton looked for a compromise.
At the TIME of DADT, it was looked at by many who wanted those bans against Gays/Lesbians lifted as a modest step in the right direction. Clearly not the whole enchilada, but it at least stopped some of the active 'witch-hunting' for soldiers who were gay/lesbian.
It was also clear at the time that another generation of leadership would have to take this up.
In 2008, a number of Obama supporters in California voted to for Prop 8 which repealed the rights of Gays/Lesbians to marry. It wasn't just 'conservative republicans' as in CA those same 'conservative republicans' couldn't elect McCain/Palin. It was a lot of African American and Hispanic Americans who like Pres Obama but also cross over to vote against Gays/Lesbians.

Anyway, a positive thing is that we recognize reality and will allow Gays/Lesbians to openly serve.
And that's good. Should have been done generations ago, but as we now see with Gay Marriage something that just takes time.

VIRGINIA BEACH (The Borowitz Report) – Evangelist Pat Robertson sparked controversy in today’s broadcast of his 700 Club program by saying that the NASA satellite that plummeted to Earth did so “because God thinks satellites are gay.”

Puget Sound Blathers

but why did God direct it towards Western Canada?
WTF did they ever do?

Sleeping with bears

Boy i hope that satellite missed that inter-continental railroad we built back in the 1800's that crosses the Pacific.

Sleeping with bears

Ok Andrew i'll take your word that every pool in your neighborhood has a public shower. Not something i would admit to knowing but thats another topic for another day. As for these showers Andrew, do you use them everyday for like 6 months at a time. And if a gay man happens to be in the next stall to you and you drop your soap, would you bend over to pick it up?

The Original Andrew

Well, looks like I won this one.

BlackRhino

You won it long ago Andrew.
