The problem with this, as Lardass admitted later, he was being a sarcastic dick. Or, as it is known in the radio industry, a Rush.

Sarah

Pulling it out of his ass is what it is. The only way this wind bag would give our President any credit is the way it came down. Had it not been a very successful mission by our crack military Rush would have come down heavy. He cant very well speak against our military warriors and since our Pres is commander In Chief of these heros Limbaugh can't do anything but support Obama while linking him to Bush.
Bush would have screwed this up big time and our President because he is cerebral and not cowboy thought this through. Limbaugh is simply getting in line with the majority of his listeners who support our military devotees. If he didn't have to do he would not have done it. He is a big phony like our local gas bag Dweeb Dori. Enough said.

Tammy Bruce Flip-Flops On How She Would View Obama If Bin Laden Were Killed During His Watch

Radio Queen

I'm absolutely loving the fact that the left has finally come to its senses. The accolades and full credit to BHO on the execution of OBL signals a new day. Since Bush had nothing to do with this latest event, we can now give Obama full credit for the 2 (or is it 3?) wars we're still fighting. We can now rename the "Bush" Tax Cuts the "Obama" Tax Cuts since he actually prevented them from expiring. We can now hand full responsibility for the health of our economy to Obama since, as you have all carefully pointed out, he's been in office for almost 3 years. The Bush era is officially dead, along with Osama Bin Laden. Long live Obama.

Sarah

That is correct, it's our Presidents watch and since he is cerebral (like I said) and not bent to being a reckless Texas cowboy decisions will be made in a thoughtful way and not in a shoot from the hip approach. Bush's idea of mission accomplished was apparently every time he completed a bowel movement. What a waste of elected office. We are now on the right track and the people's work will be done. Eat your heart out Mr Limbaugh your era is coming to an end.

sparky

It takes awhile to clean up after an elephant, Queenie. I recall the right talking about how they were sure President Obama would cut and run and leave the "important work" of the war behind. Now that he hasn't, they are now "his wars." The whole thing is summed up quite well here!

sparky

Meanwhile, Condi Rice apparently still thinks that Canada supported the Iraq war. Interesting to watch her on Lawrence O'Donnell's show last night.

I expected better of you, Sparky.

Great points, not to mention Pres Obama's 'Club Gitmo', Pres Obama's new found love of intel derived from 'enhanced interrogation procedures', or that his admin now fully backs the 'USA Patriot Act.'

Given the headlong rush into Libya, anyone now want to posit that a Pres Obama -if put in Pres Bush's shoes pre Iraq War- would not have committed us to a war in Iraq to stop the imminent threat of Saddam Hussein? Before you say no, consider that this is the same Pres Obama that doubled down on Predator Drone Attacks in Pakistan with the attendant 'collateral damage' of woman and children and always said the 'good war' was Afghanistan which he backed with substantial troop increases.

Stellar. But Sparky wants to avoid those unpleasant truths to concentrate on a minor 'neener neener' miscue on Canada's non support of the War.

Listen up Anti War Progressives, we want to see if your anti war stance was based on principles or just politics.

Puget Sound Blathers

Jeez, I went and watched the entire 12 minute interview. Larry didn't come off so well now did he?

Anyone want to tell us which US President said this about Iraq in an address to Congress: (answer Pres Clinton)

"Together we must also confront the new hazards of chemical and biological weapons, and the outlaw states, terrorists and organized criminals seeking to acquire them. Saddam Hussein has spent the better part of this decade, and much of his nation's wealth, not on providing for the Iraqi people, but on developing nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and the missiles to deliver them. The United Nations weapons inspectors have done a truly remarkable job, finding and destroying more of Iraq's arsenal than was destroyed during the entire gulf war. Now, Saddam Hussein wants to stop them from completing their mission. I know I speak for everyone in this chamber, Republicans and Democrats, when I say to Saddam Hussein, "You cannot defy the will of the world", and when I say to him, "You have used weapons of mass destruction before; we are determined to deny you the capacity to use them again..."

Sarah

Let me spell it out for you in simple terms. A real President instead of a real precedent. Boils down to that as I stated what a waste of political bandwidth.

sparky

Yes, whatever you say, Queenie. You and P get off on lecturing we lesser beings here, so, go for it. I bet you two can keep yourselves entertained all weekend, so carry on!

joanie

I'm laughing. The Queen is finding she's got some competition in the logic department. When pushed into a corner, you really don't have much to add, do you Queen? Hypocrisy? Are we getting personal, Queen? I thought you were above that. My, my.

A little lesson for the rightwing on this blog: Torture May Have Slowed Hunt For Bin Laden, Not Hastened It

I can only laugh when the right tries to justify the devastating years under Bush and hand some sort of slug to Obama. I've criticized Obama plenty but I certainly can give him deserved credit when credit is due. I'm going to start calling you the sour-grapes brigade.

And only puget sound would read the Queen's post as having made "points." I didn't read any.
But I'm not as easy as he is.

I'm thinking Obama has a deep calculus about issues and policy. I might have to give him another look. A quicker more patient thoughtful President than the "dead or alive" - "well, I really don't think about it much anymore brush-whackin' cowboy he succeeded. I think we can all be grateful for that.

So, I, along with Sparky, hereby abandon the Queen to our very own illogical Puget Sound to debate insinuations and assumptions all weekend long. Have fun!

You bring that assessment of "lesser beings" on yourself. The DU is good for potty mouth leftwingnut blather lacking substance. Resorting to the drive-by invective tells that you have no tangible case - just more demagogery.

Funny that as much as Obama and the left tries to demagogue and deny it, his policies pretty much line up with what that cowboy brush-hacker used - can you say hypocrite ? Three wars have even outdone Mr. Bush - Yeah, I know it pains you to look at the facts absent from the spin but money is no object in Obamanomics.

Puget Sound Blathers facts and reason

KS
Now this is damn funny.

Given that Pres Obama is so thoughtful and applies the proper 'calculus' then the fact that all he does is basically continue Pres Bush's foreign policy points to an unsettling fact for the Progressives.

Pres Bush's basic premise is correct. Oh sure, Pres Obama will make adjustments as time warrants but the premise is the same.

That's the unsettling truth that is becoming more self evident. No wonder Sparky, Joanie, et al will skeddadle away. It's their worst nightmare: Bush was right.

Bush was right about Afghanistan, the need to get rid of threats like Saddam or Khadafy, the need for Gitmo, the usefulness of enhanced interrogation techniques, rendition, no civilian trials for Khalid Sheik Mohammed, USA Patriot Act, Bush Tax Cuts, etc....

To the skeddadlers, doesn't sanity demand that we can't have it both ways?

Itchy

The Bottom Line:

1. Under Bush, Osama bin Laden got away with murder.

2. Under Obama, Osama bin Laden got hunted down and killed.

Case closed.

It's quite hilarious to now watch the right-wingers contort themselves like an Auntie Anne's Pretzel so as to find fault with something they can only wish George W. Bush had done.

In fact, Cheney and Rove probably have been going through multi-packs of Kirkland tissue paper after jacking off their tiny republican peckers to the thought of Dubya gunning down Osama.

Of course, it's easy for the right-wingers to contort their views; they have so much practice sticking their heads up their ass.

Puget Sound Blathers

when folks go with 'the bottom line' that means they don't want to put things into context or understand what happened.

Bush disbanded the binLaden unit in 2005 and didn't care what happened. An 8th grader could tell you that.

Sarah

If he wants it, it's his till '16. With this great accomplishment along with the Nobel prize Pres Obama may go down as one of the best Presidents in our history. And he ain't done yet. Go for it Trump, Palin, Romney see how far you get. Again can you imagine Trump and Palin in a serious debate. That would be funnier than SNL. Hahahaha

Jovita places his bets on PS and RQ

And they're off! Here comes PS on the inside next to the rails. RQ is back in the pack and hasn't made her move yet. Stay tuned to see who is the winner this weekend! Will it be the narcissistic and self-absorbed Puget Sound? Or will the little lady who is confused about her occupation come up from behind and pass her competition, whipping a crop on her mighty fine hindquarters to take the race by a nose? Better than the Kentucky Derby, Ladies and Gentlemen! Grab your Mint Julip and take a seat in the stands.

Itchy

Dubya had 7 years after 9-11 to do 'smoke him out.' Instead he wimped out.

Obama just ate the GOP's lunch.

Obama just kicked ass and took names. (Including the total humiliation and evisceration of Hair Trump.)

The right-wingers are in denial because the black president came in with his swingin' dick and just banged the pretty white woman harder than Limbaugh and Rove and Dori and Hannity ever could.

That's their great fear and the real reason they can't stand Obama.

Sarah

Hey Rush put this in your pipe and smoke it. I just read that in a speech to University of Sourh Carolina students your buddy Colin Powell said he particularly enjoyed the following event "That was when President Obama took out his birth certificate and blew away Donald Trump and all the northers!" Hey the Thomas eat your heart out still love the Donald. Hahaha

Sarah

That should be the birthers, sorry.

Andrew

then the fact that all he does is basically continue Pres Bush's foreign policy points to an unsettling fact for the Progressives.

No, Bush had depriortized been Laden since 2002 so he could oust Saddam Hussein. Obama had to redirect the CIA towards bin Laden.

Pres Bush's basic premise is correct. Oh sure, Pres Obama will make adjustments as time warrants but the premise is the same.

What was that? Invade unrelated Iraq? Trust Musharraf?

It's their worst nightmare: Bush was right.

About what? Tora Bora? Puting faith in Hamid Karzai?

I'd agree that Obama discovered Gitmo was more useful than he realized before he became President, but on just about everything else you're wrong. Bush's priority was Iraq, and obviously bin Laden was nowhere near Iraq. They had no weapons, there weren't working with al Qaeda. All Bush did was remove a check from Iran and make them an even bigger threat.

Conservatives are twisting in their chairs at the fact that the abomination that is Bush's legacy is becoming so much more clear now. We're not talking about a few favorable cycles for Dems, Obama is set to become the Dem's Reagan, which could mean decades of good will with independant voters. The line that Dems are soft on defense is gone. Thanks to Paul Ryan the 'compassionate conservative' is a dead concept. It reads liek a combination of the kind of communist leftists accusations against America one moght see in a far left U.S. newspaper, with some Muslim cultural twists added concering aer supposed sexual and moral decadence, teamed up with standard old anti-Jewish lies and hate-mongering directly descended from Mein Kamp and Hitler's other hystericaL, Jew-bashing spewings. He accuses U.S. of interfering with the Arabs hopes and deams of overthrowing their corrupt leaders by supportiNG these leaders oppression of them, specificaly in aiding the Algerian rulers successful defeat of the rebel uprising in the nineties. It's laughable that this guy would pose as a champion of democratic rights and frredom when it was well known that he has bought thousands of child slaves from Ugandan rebels for years and years so he could work them for free on his large Marijuana plantations in the Sudan. God knows what hellacious conditions these children have been forced to work in. Probably worked to death with whips and clubs. Not to mention Obamas support of the Taliban ruled society that was sheltering him in AFGHANISTAN A real bastion of freedom and rights. The evil turd spices this drivel and dreck up with a bit of revisionist boasting about the conquests of the great Islamic armies of the past and how they will dfeat he U.S. in similar fashint othe se supposed glorious victories ove the infidels of past centuries. Oh, you missed a lot Andrew. Bush was right about the USAPATRIOT ACT and not trying Khalid Sheik Mohommed in US Courts. Bush was also right about not 'arresting' and reading 'rights' to Bin Laden.
All of these things that in the abstract sound all nice and fine until cold reality hits you. Pres Obama adopted all of those actions that he railed against on the campaign trail. Good for him, he follows Bush's lead.

Pres Obama -barring an issue of national defense- will be elected if he can get Gas under $3 and unemployment under 7 percent. That 'cold decade' you mention must be subject to Global Warming as the last time we checked the House was firmly in the GOP Hands and the Senate is going to be up for grabs in 2012.

In regards to Tora Bora, in an effort to minimize US casualties Bush tried to use the locals to get Obama. That failed. We learned our lesson. It was for noble reasons that we tried that strategy ie to lessen US casualties.

Oh yes, Coils is correct that the unit was disbanded. But only in the sense it was reorganized to fight a rapidly morphing Al Queda. But they also still looked for Osama.

Here is the rest of the story that the maggots in mainstream media fail to print and Bla'M did not receive prior to this post; We should be thanking Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta for making this happen - not so much Obama - who essentially voted "present". He could restore any cred he once had by getting rid of Valerie Jarrett. If you believe what he says on 60 Minutes tomorrow night - I have a Link Light Rail I'd like to sell you. Source is shown at the end -

"I have been told by more than one source that Leon Panetta was directing the operation with both his own CIA operatives, as well as direct contacts with military – both entities were reporting to Panetta only at this point, and not the President of the United States. There was not going to be another delay as had happened 24 hour earlier. The operation was at this time effectively unknown to President Barack Obama or Valerie Jarrett and it remained that way until AFTER it had already been initiated. President Obama was literally pulled from a golf outing and escorted back to the White House to be informed of the mission. Upon his arrival there was a briefing held which included Bill Daley, John Brennan, and a high ranking member of the military. When Obama emerged from the briefing, he was described as looking “very confused and uncertain.” The president was then placed in the situation room where several of the players in this event had already been watching the operation unfold. Another interesting tidbit regarding this is that the Vice President was already “up to speed” on the operation. A source indicated they believe Hillary Clinton had personally made certain the Vice President was made aware of that day’s events before the president was. The now famous photo released shows the particulars of that of that room and its occupants. What that photo does not communicate directly is that the military personnel present in that room during the operation unfolding, deferred to either Hillary Clinton or Robert Gates. The president’s role was minimal, including their acknowledging of his presence in the room.

At the conclusion of the mission, after it had been repeatedly confirmed a success, President Obama was once again briefed behind closed doors. The only ones who went in that room besides the president were Bill Daley. John Brennan, and a third individual whose identity remains unknown to me. When leaving this briefing, the president came out of it “…much more confident. Much more certain of himself.” He was also carrying papers in his hand that quite possibly was the address to the nation given later that evening on the Bin Laden mission. The president did not have those papers with him prior to that briefing. The president then returned to the war room, where by this time, Leon Panetta had personally arrived and was receiving congratulations from all who were present.

In my initial communication to you of these events I described what unfolded as a temporary Coup initiated by high ranking intelligence and military officials. I stand by that term. These figures worked around the uncertainty of President Obama and the repeated resistance of Valerie Jarrett. If they had not been willing to do so, I am certain Osama Bin Laden would still be alive today. There will be no punishment to those who acted outside the authority of the president’s office. The president cannot afford to admit such a fact. What will be most interesting from here is to now see what becomes of Valerie Jarrett. One source indicated she is threatening resignation. I find that unlikely given my strong belief she needs the protection afforded her by the Oval Office and its immense powers to delay and eventually terminate investigations back in Chicago, but we shall see."

Andrew

Oh, you missed a lot Andrew. Bush was right about the USAPATRIOT ACT and not trying Khalid Sheik Mohommed in US Courts. Bush was also right about not 'arresting' and reading 'rights' to Bin Laden.

Yeah, Bush was so right that bin Laden was a free man when he left office in Jan '09. Hate to repeat myself, but Obama stated that he directed the CIA to focus on bin Laden when he came into office, and they determined where bin Laden was not long after. Bush even said in March 2002 "I truly am not that concerned about him. I am deeply concerned about Iraq." Bush will be remembered for that colossal blunder now that Obama has proved bin Laden to be "catchable", and people like you will be judged for your partisan, wilful ignorance. Your like those who insisted blacks were 3/5th a person once upon a time. We don't know why they thought they way they did, but we're all glad they're dead now.

In regards to Tora Bora, That failed.

Yes indeed.

Finally, the only ones bringing race into any of this are the 'progressives' on this blog engaging in race baiting.

You mean like the Minuteman who insist they have nothing against Mexicans per se, or birthers who say they just want to be sure our president is legally qualified? We know you're racist, or greedy, because your stated motives are so clearly bullshit that it's only fair to assume you're trying to cover for some motive that you're afraid to state in public.

Look at chucks for example, he can barely hide the fact that he's a raging misogynist, and yet he can't come out and state that he hates women directly, so instead he calls for "traditional values" which is code for rolling back gender equality.

Puget Sound Blathers

andrew,
interesting argumentation style you have. those who disagree with you are racist or mysogynist. race baiting is a particularly ugly tactic. it makes me sad that you use it. very sad.

osama was hunted throughout the bush presidency and into the obama presidency. in terms of being a 'free man' he was under a sentence of death. that it took so long to get him speaks to the difficulties.

bush was clearly trying to capture him but the leads/information were limited. his public response to the question of bin laden was an effort to tamp down the publicity but it didn't mean they were not actively trying to catch him.

again, kudos to pres obama and the miltiary/civilian folks who captured him.

Oh yes, Coils is correct that the unit was disbanded. But only in the sense it was reorganized to fight a rapidly morphing Al Queda. But they also still looked for Osama.

Where is your evidence of this? I've been listening to people all day on the radio disputing that assumption. The only thing morphing was the number of recruits into Al Queda as a result of Bush's "shoot 'em up" style of going after Bin Laden. And also a sequence of people calling it Cheney's style which protected Mushariff because Mushariff was such a great arms customer which was good for Haliburton's bottom line. The consensus today: Cheney was lousy at foreign policy and Bush - CEO relied on Cheney to get it done.

In fact, several commentators were providing clips and statements from Cheney over the last couple of years criticizing Obama for changing policy on Pakistan.

The Puget Sound seems to relish ambiguous and unsupported assumptions. We used to call it BS in college but he's never gotten over it. That's why I question his credentials. No specifics - nada - in anything the Sound puts out there.

Andrew is not a race baiter. I think there's more evidence in Queen's and chux' posts about Walker of race-baiting than anything any of us have posted.

Poor Joanie, she can't see beyond her own political bigotry to realize that it will take both sides to make changes happen. She is the problem--not the solution.

Again, the extremists on the left and right will continue to aim their sights on each other, while those in the middle will put this country back together.

And sorry, KS, but this Ulsterman story you posted? He/she appears to be an anonymous blogger who has no news credibility. Prove me wrong, but until then, it's fiction.

joanie

Oh dear. More accusations and platitudes, Queen? You ignore history. Or perhaps just can't think of a response?

Your side destroyed "the middle." Which is what makes your response dishonest, historically inaccurate and irrelevant. At least you can admit to breaking the country apart. Why would anyone with an iota of intelligence want to give it back to you?

joanie

BTW, another "assumption?" I'm not poor.

You really should watch that habit. It doesn't become you. Not if you're really trying to present some objectivity in your posts. But,then, maybe you're not . . .

joanie

I'm catching up on Rachel from Friday. Seems Herman Cain won the S. Carolina Republican debate. "Common sense" answers. He's black, chux. Uh-oh! The last person I recall being called a "common sense" candidate was Bush Jr.

Uh-oh, 2x.

Fabulous weekend in the Gorge and Willamette valley with more sun than rain. Good food, good wine, good company. Happy Mother's Day Mom!

And skimming the posts, I see there is nothing new here.

Puget Sound Blathers while Joanie continues to spin

Joanie
when I quoted CIA Chief Leon Paneta that the use of enhanced interrogation techniques proved useful in nailing Osama. Joanie doubted the transcripts from NBC News.

So I posted the video. All she had to do was click it to hear it out of Paneta's mouth. At which point she frittered away what was left of her credibility by denying he said it. (Brian Williams from NBC must have been doing an Edgar Bergan/Charlie Mcarthy routine)

It's sad.
Facts have no meaning in her world when they interview with her world view.
It's stems from the 'pathology of knowledge.' A reluctance to consider alternative explanations to what you 'know', an unwillingness to submit contrary statements of what you 'know' to fair tests, and a reluctance to accept criticism of what you 'know.'

Does that not sound like our bird, Joanie? The Dodo is alive in well in Seattle...
