Another local conservative has gone.
In case you didn't notice, former local teevee star, John Curley is yucking it up tonight with ol' buddy Mike West about Justion Bieber in the 7-10p hour on KIROFM.
Frank Shiers didn't get to say goodbye to his dozens of listeners: Curley and West just appeared, blabbing away as if they'd always been there.
C'est la vida loca in radie-yo.
Frank Shiers, if anything, was loyal. An oldies DJ on KBSG, he started doing fill-ins and voice-overs on KIRO in about 2005, and over the years had several evening shows, and lots of fill-ins.
With one of the most exuberant fake laughs in the business, Frank put a lot into his show. Obviously not enough.
He's one more live & local right-wing talker to have shuffled the coil in the Seattle market. Frank was the penultimate conservative on KIROFM, leaving only Dori Monson (m-f, 12-3).
This isn't the first radio obit we've written for Frank, and probably won't be the last.
what about the Joe Humble act he tried to pull off when he announced "his girls" (as another poster noter its always the possessive pronoun with Dori-"his" everything) wetre going to the state championships. He didn't sound humble at all- i know he thought he did.

Dave Ross used to do a show that was informative, on important topics with interviews that brought new information and ideas to the broadcast. Now he has been dumbed down by the empty vessel sitting next to him. No calls, (perhaps not the worst thing ;) and quick segments about as deep as People magazine with Luke fighting to keep up. Some have mentioned Luke as an afternoon show replacement, anyone remember TBTL? Great as a blog not so much on air. Luke's listeners dont listen to radio. Ron and Don are entertaining, no one else has made that nightmare of a time slot work, with only 19 minutes of on air time chopped up with traffic news weather and oyeah, commericials. John Curley is and will always be a pompous ass. I listened last night during a ferry ride. What i learned was even though Boeing put food on his families table for 30 years, he thought it would be ok for EADS to win the tanker contract because they make some of the parts in alabama. Way to support the local people Curley. Throw in a few fart jokes and you have his entire show. Frank is most likely a good person who could do a decent interview but never rose above dull in his personality, it doesnt work in radio. I do think changes are coming to Ross's show, and they are using Luke as an interim lubricant to ease people away from hearing daves voice. The change will be without Dave, and KIRO will be poorer for it. And Franco i tune out when the KIRO dan in maple valley spots come on.

Curley is just bad radio...Frank was boring and tedious but likeable...Ron and Don are idiots..I listen to Dave and Luke, and Dori, once in a while.

I only wish I had time for that morning coffee. I drink instant and listen to the guidance of Bill Radke on my drive to work as I carefully plot my course customized by the sweet advice of traffic goddess Kimmie Kline.

Serious question: does anybody every listen to the traffic report to decide how they're going to get somewhere, or do you just listen to it to find out how many people died in a collision that's a mile up ahead?

nick has a good point- Frank was likeable for the most part, althought terribly annoying and often obtuse. KIROFM pretty much divides up into likeable and unlikeable- and that determines peoples listenign habits.L=likeable ..UL =unlikeable.... Dave Ross= L...Burbank= UL....Monson =UL....R and D= L and L ...Curley= UL

regardoing John Curley......who is this ass and what is he doing on my radio station?........if you need a friend to appear on Blatherwatch and vouch for what a great guy you were (relax no one is saying Curley put you up to it West- Mike- i don't thik he did), you're in trouble. Listener opinion of Curley has nothing to do with whether he's a guy who will show up at your house on saturday and help you move to your new condo.

Someone above noticed Radke on his blog is calling himself the "voice of Seattle's morning news." What an arrogant prick. He's not even the voice of is own blog. He may think he's something special, but Linda is the brains, soul and voice of that show. Clearly advertisers get that she's the leader of that show. Should someone tell Radke, or let him continue thinking he's important? Go back to NPR where your snark is right at home.

Dori Monson is the only sane voice left in Seattle.

I loved Frank and always enjoyed his shows.I found him entertaining. Such a shame to see him go. Maybe one day he will be back on radio to entertain the masses that love him.

What I hated about Frank is that, like Dori, he refused to admit that he was conservative. Stop fooling yourself and be honest.

I heard Dori refuse to the Somali pirates are terrorists, and deride the media for describing them as "pirates".
His reasoning as to why they aren't pirates? Because "pirates" are all fun and games like Johnny Depp dressed up as a swashbuckler. That's his reason for retiring the centuries old term "pirate".
His reasoning as to why they're terrorists? Somalis are Muslim. It doesn't matter than they have no political agenda, and only do this for profit, since they're Muslim, they're therefor Islamic terrorists.
This POV is not unique to Dori, I heard OTHER CONSERVATIVES make this claim after the Maersk Alabama incident. So anytime a Muslim ever does anything illegal, it must be a violent politcal statement. It's no different than if black people were to accuse every white criminal of being part of a lynch mob, regardless of the crime, regardless of the victim. If you're white and you commit crime, you're a lynch mob.
You want to see anti-intellectualism and racism in action? There it is.

Listening to Frank was like listening to my boss. If he did not agree with a topic or guest he would just say no over and over and over again rather than actually discuss the topic.
Good by Frank, you will not be missed.

Ughh. Thank Cthulu for this.
I don't care how many times he brags about "Live and Local", the last thing AM talk needs is a baffoon scrolling down & reading orbusmax verbatim. We already have Dori doing this
Note to the "Orb": When we call you a teabagger, we mean that you love to suck mens' balls
