Actually, the photo (with hundreds of bumper stickers covering each car) is evidence that promotional budgets have changed. In those days, especially at Top 40 stations, bumper and window stickers were a big deal. There was a time in the 70s when every other car in Puget Sound had a KJR "Sunshine Sticker" on its car, and the ones that didn't had stickers from KING, KZOK, KISW, or KYYX instead.
Along about the '80s the stickers because less ubiquitous, and media consolidation and its subsequent slashing of promotional budgets pretty much killed them off. Now they're exceedingly rare as mass promotions.

Then there was the story of a DJ at KGON in Portland circa 1963...nightime jock Paul Anthony "the Paul Anthony Party".He implored his listeners night after night to send him one dime so he could take that money and buy a new XKE. He promised that he would put the NAME of everyone who sent him a dime on his new Jag.
Not surprisingly, he collected enough loot to purchase the car and almost immediately disappeared to take a job in the Midwest.

KOL broadcast the Seattle Hydros in the boat the "KOLROY" owned by Bob Gilliam, during the late 50's and early 60's. The sportscaster was Johnny Forrest.
