Radiotown’s buzzing. Will Bonneville’s KTTH dump Dave Boze (KTTH m-f, 3-6p) to pick up Fox Newstool Sean Hannity formerly on the late KVI?
We hope not: Boze is the only live & local Seattle show on the right-wing talker which already has Rush and Beck (and we forget who else) beamed down from the birds in the sky.
What does it mean that longtime Dori Monson producer Phil Vandervort, reassigned last month to the Boze show has quit and has gone to produce for John Carlson (KOMO m-f, 3-6p)?
Speculative clichés abound: Might Producer Phil have seen (or was shown) the handwriting on the wall? Could it have been a rat/sinking ship/get out/gettin’s good kinda move?
Fisher’s KOMO must be happy to see Phil, who’s proven to be, not only a great producer, but a loyal employee. (It’s an employer’s market, and Fisher, of course, famously has had no such reciprocating loyalties: They fuck ‘em and forget ‘em as they see fit… Problem for Fisher: their view of what's fit ain't always brilliant).
Bonneville in Seattle has been doing pretty well, by our lights, by actually spending money on local talent for KIROFM (re: Radke, Burbank). You may not like Bill and Luke, but the company had to do something, and and they did it.
KIROFM has gotten some better numbers lately, but KTTH still sucks.
Were far-left extremists (Democrats!) of course, but picking up Hannity sounds stupid to us. He’s a self-satisfied, awe-shucks, doctrinaire winger whose show has not done well in Seattle.
Unlike Beck and Rush, his rabid anti-Obama blatherings are so predictable they rarely even break into or out of the parallel conservative press. Hannity, full of portent and smarmy right-wing RediWhip, occasionally makes news with wiffle interviews of such pols as Christine O’Donnell or Sharron Angle who tactically steer clear of real media with their pesky real questions.
He's big nationally with the Southern bubba crowd to whom he panders endlessly. In Seattle, even the Olde Rightie KVI types grok he doesn’t need or give a shit about the West Coast, so he’s long been whupped midday by Michael Medved (KTTH m-f, 12-3p), KIRO’s Dori Monson and even Ed Schultz (KPTK m-f, 12-3p). KOMO’s Ken Schram may even be making inroads in that loathsome slot.
Where could KTTH put Hannity? He’s live 12-3p, but so is Medved’s syndicated show from their own studios. Beck and Rush have mornings tied-up. Would they put Hannity refried in the afternoon drive? They’d almost have to.
(Medved, an intelligent, though thoroughly deluded human being, shares BlatherWatch’s loathing for Hannity. Michael is once-bitten: Fisher once dumped him from KVI for Hannity. We’ve been told his twice-shy contract with Bonneville is jelly tight).
For Bonneville to hand over KTTH to the obsequious paid-for robots and youthful $10ph knob-jockeys of 24/7 satellite programming must be attractive.
Though the man wears furs, and graduated from Hillsdale College, Dave Boze is a low-key, down-home kinda guy. He earnestly believes the shit he says and is a genuine native. Nonetheless, his show with its salaries and benefits is big-time overhead compared to the no-cash-out of syndicated programming.
Bye Dave.
(Note to Dave if you’re goned: it’s your beloved free market that kicked your ass. Time to move to Billings or Muskogee or Juneau where your product might be more competitive. Or… you could become a lobbyist for the Evergreen Foundation).
We’re rooting for The Dave Boze Show. We think KTTH should be live-er and local-er, even if it means more destructive reactionary talk, and Bonneville loses some more dough.
We're conflicted (as liberals are). While wishing Boze a long life, we, in general, wish all right-wing media would fall on its ass. We just wish it wasn’t taking local radio down with it.
OSK: Ever actually listen to Fred Thompson on the radio? He's funnier and more insightful than most political talkers (on any medium).
His big problem is when he assumed O'Reilly's Westwood One slot he kept the 2-hour block which doesn't fit most talk station schedules very well.

That's fine for those above ground, but I could be in my underground bunker sorting ammo by caliber vs brand.
(Changes every week)
1590 AM on my radio dial doesn't come in, even when I'm above ground.
Same with 1300 AM.
I like the idea of another source for all of the homeless from KVI and possibly Dave Boze... If he gets whacked.
(I do like his show)
I'll probably start pod casting as it get's easier and more available.
Problem for me is when I do, I'm stuck in the office near the computer...
Not yet willing to carry around an MP3 player like a Jr. High kid.
I like radio because it's there wherever you go.
I like my radio "old school".

I'm not sure I buy into the rape charges. While holding open the possibility that he might have done something bad, you have to remember that it's the kind of accusation that defames a person even if they're innocent.

Looks like Assange may have taken one too many bites at the apple.
Did anyone pick up the wikileaks “insurance.aes256” file?
Posted by: BlackRhino | December 01, 2010 at 11:36 AM
Part of Ph(J)oanie's dysfunction is that she gets breaking news from the Huff Post - a biased regressive publication, but what else is new ?
Not much else to say about Wikileaks that hasn't been said already. Except that Michael Scharer, former CIA- operative stated that there hasn't been much effort to repudiate this so far, where there is definite damage to our security with this stuff -seems like they don't really care by their actions up to now. I like Mrs. Clinton's response to this better than anyone else in this malevolent administration - funny that Assange believes she should resign - as if he is a credible source and waiting to see if there is anything to the rape charge. Maybe old man Soros paid him off to have Assange do his dirty deed. Soros is someone who is really is rooting for America to fail.

huff po sucks. Lately they've been reporting on bogus-science and spiritual belief as though it were on par with actual science.
The right used to talk about the elite left, limousine liberals, and I never would have believed they were describing something real... until now. Huff Po reads like a snobby wine party in Brentwood. It's the religion of the left.
Believe it or not, some of us want to form our opinions with facts.

Email from Bonneville:
You are receiving this email in response to your email to KTTH regarding upcoming programming changes in the wake of KVI’s format change. We are please to inform you that Coast to Coast AM and The Sean Hannity Show have been picked up by Bonneville radio stations. Coast to Coast AM will be on from 10 PM to 4 AM weekdays and 10 PM to 1 AM on the weekends and will be heard on 97.3 KIRO FM. The Sean Hannity Show will air from 4pm to 7pm and will be heard on 770 KTTH. Both shows will begin January 3rd.

John Gibson is by far my favorite National radio show...
He's currently on KTTH 6pm - 9pm.
I sure hope his show stays on and doesn't get an hour cut out of it.
The problem we all go through with these radio changes, have to take it as it goes.
Not sure about all of the "WikiLeaks" stuff on this forum.
The internet is a big bathroom wall for all to post what they want.
This Assange guy is a real dirt bag, but it's the source that takes the dirt bag cake.
Treason = Execution.

aside from the resident nutter, anyone else on this progressive blog think Assange is doing the right thing?
if he can't get traction on this blog he can't get it anywhere.
Posted by: Puget Sound | December 01, 2010 at 06:30 PM
Why the name change, resident. You don't like "Puget Sound" anymore?
Posted by: Coiler | December 01, 2010 at 06:45 PM
Nope, only Joanie is on his side so far and Coiler is on the fence. Prez BO and "Steadman" Holder doesn't care enough about it to do anything of consequence, but he likes to apologize for being American - what a jacka$$ (among other things)...
Interesting that KTTH is going to pick up Coast to Coast instead of KIRO-FM. I prefer Gibson over Hannity, but sounds like he may lose an hour - would rather him stay on. So, I guess that confirms that Boze is the odd man out.

Posted by: BlackRhino | December 01, 2010 at 09:23 PM
Thanks, Black Rhino. I read that "Steadman" comment at work and wanted to respond.
Howard fineman posted a good short column on Huffington about Obama and repeated attempts to negotiate with the other side. And Strickland of Ohio put it out there in no uncertain terms. He commented that it seems like inexperience is partly the culprit. I'm beginning to think we've got another administration of "the best and the brightest." That's such a shame. Hilary would have been tougher but perhaps wouldn't have accomplished any more. I'm beginning to think Pelosi should be our President.
Julian Assange is a patriot of the world. And in the best sense of the word. I just want him to get out all the stuff on the banks. Boy, do I want people to know about the banksters. But, people like andrew seem to want to remain in the cozy dark.
And, Andrew, Huffington is your daily newspaper on line and there's something for everybody. You don't have to read it. Did you flunk out of school or something. You're sounding like Tommy and klueless more and more. They are not models for good men. Trust me.

the toxicity coming via your piehole on the keyboard.
Joanie - you are a twisted, clueless old broad, besides the resident nutter who is hate-filled and not worthy of trust and full of regressive garbage. Contrary to you, I hope Assange gets imprisoned for being an unrepentant treasonous a-hole.
Hey - the Steadman comment was mine, not BR's. The reference was made because he looks like Oprah's beau or ex-beau - depends if you believe the tabloids.

Joanie;
Yea, I hear what you’re saying about Obama, but I would presume he’s still an enigma. I’ve always thought he was more conservative than he was portrayed. Julian Assange, is another puzzle to me. I can’t draw a conclusion because I don’t have the complete data dump he has amassed. But if I had it I still don’t know if I could draw a conclusion about his significance. I do have a bit of encrypted data, not known to the public but available, and am trying to crack it. But I don’t think it will change my mind about him.

BR, I'm tired of the oft-heard opening that "I knew he was more conservative . . . " BS. We all voted for him because we "Hoped" that he would "change" the status quo. He instilled that with his words. But replacing the old guard with a new "old guard" didn't bode very well for all that "change" he promised. We have to hold him accountable. I agree that he has done good things. It would be nice if we all knew exactly what they were and it would be even nicer, if he'd learn to hold his ground once in a while.
How do you see his handling of Afghanistan being different from Johnson's and MacNamara's?

I think he’s going to back out of Afghanistan, but not as much as he will disengage from Europe. Our troop withdraw from Germany, Italy and Turkey will be huge when it’s done.

Posted by: BlackRhino | December 01, 2010 at 11:05 PM
Look, this isn't rocket science. Assange has released quite a bit of information that has nothing to do with exposing the truth about war or uncovering corruption. He released info that embarrassed the British Royal Family, he's released info that attacks the egos of the leaders of Russia, Germany and Afghanistan, and has caused the leaders of Saudi Arabia and Paskistan to lose face... all for nothing. It serves no purpose. This is about Assange and his new found power. It's not about any better cause.
Just because some megalomaniacal psycho claims to be a peace or human rights acitivist does not mean his motives are all pure. For the love of God, don't be so incredibly naive.
Posted by: Andrew | December 01, 2010 at 11:33 PM
Obama is the man in charge. He has the bully pulpit. Our legislators are pretty much bought and paid for just like everyone elses. Even Cantwell who gave it a good try before backing off.
Give me more Feingolds and Sanders. They don't need a push from their constituents to know honest from corrupt or ethical from unethical. I elect them and they are supposed to know what to do when they get there. There's not enough money in the world for the "People" to have as much leverage with legislators as the corporations if the legislators don't know why they are there to begin with.
This is not a conundrum for many smart people. If it is for you, that's too bad. Chalmers Johnson, Kevin Phillips, Chris Hedges, Robert Scheer, Warren Buffet . . . get it. Why don't you? You read. At least it sounds like you read. You pay attention. Anyone who pays attention, listens and reads people who have expertise know better. Unfortunately, there are too few people who do all that. They go where they get their "beliefs" reinforced. Racist beliefs; bigoted beliefs; hate-filled beliefs. There are far too many people who thrive on those things. And they all go to the same place. And that place is even blaring daily to our armed forces. That should be changed.
And that place is the only cable news sold with the base package by cable companies. That should be changed.
And finally, a real pet peeve of mine: this notion that money is speech. It wasn't speech for Laurie David and her business partner when they tried to buy advertising on the networks and the networks declined their business because it might upset their big corporate subsidizers. If money cannot buy speech on network tv, then it is not equivalent to speech and thus, not speech. If money cannot buy billboards then money is not speech. If one group's money cannot buy ad time, then money does not equal speech. David had the money but her ad was rejected. So, money does not = speech.

speaking of unfair media, Joanie, what do you think of a late night talk show on a major U.S. cable channel that is completely segregated? the host , the band , the sidkick to the host, every guest , every single night. five nights a week, and every member of the audience is always a member of the same race. Outrageous, eh, Joana? Wouldn't you condemn the show as racist?

Boze has effectively discussed the hypocrisy of the Left. Case in point: Look to the issue of waterboarding as 'torture' vs predator drones that kill innocent civilians. Talk about manufacturing a new wave of terrorists.
The Left spent a couple years denouncing the Bush Admin as War Criminals for Waterboarding etc etc YET is strangely silent on the use of Predator Drones that kill scores of innocents.
Turns out it wasn't a heartfelt position of the political Left, rather a political calculation. Enjoy the continued descent into minority party status.
From the WA Post this morning:
"Every war brings its own deformations, but consider this disturbing fact about America's war against al-Qaeda: It has become easier, politically and legally, for the United States to kill suspected terrorists than to capture and interrogate them.
Predator and Reaper drones, armed with Hellfire missiles, have become the weapons of choice against al-Qaeda operatives in the tribal areas of Pakistan. They have also been used in Yemen, and the demand for these efficient tools of war, which target enemies from 10,000 feet, is likely to grow."
Posted by: Puget Sound | December 02, 2010 at 04:38 AM
The article continues:
"The pace of drone attacks on the tribal areas has increased sharply during the Obama presidency, with more assaults in September and October of this year than in all of 2008. At the same time, efforts to capture al-Qaeda suspects have virtually stopped. Indeed, if CIA operatives were to snatch a terrorist tomorrow, the agency wouldn't be sure where it could detain him for interrogation.
Michael Hayden, a former director of the CIA, frames the puzzle this way: "Have we made detention and interrogation so legally difficult and politically risky that our default option is to kill our adversaries rather than capture and interrogate them?"
It's curious why the American public seems so comfortable with a tactic that arguably is a form of long-range assassination, after the furor about the CIA's use of nonlethal methods known as "enhanced interrogation." When Israel adopted an approach of "targeted killing" against Hamas and other terrorist adversaries, it provoked an extensive debate there and abroad.

"For reasons that defy logic, people are more comfortable with drone attacks" than with killings at close range, says Robert Grenier, a former top CIA counterterrorism officer who now is a consultant with ERG Partners. in all seriousness, Joans, I believe Obama and Holder;s reverse racism emboldened the black female host of the completely racially segregated Mo'Nigue Show on BET to launch such a show in late 2009. I seriously doubt she would have dared, without this encouraging atmosphere provided by the national racial "leadership" of Obama.

Posted by: Andrew | December 03, 2010 at 02:02 PM
Why have we heard very little protest from the folks who opposed Waterboarding as immoral yet take no issue with President Obama's undeclared war within Pakistan that slaughters innocent civilians with Predator Drones.
From the WA Post article cited above:
"Michael Hayden, a former director of the CIA, frames the puzzle this way: "Have we made detention and interrogation so legally difficult and politically risky that our default option is to kill our adversaries rather than capture and interrogate them?"
It's curious why the American public seems so comfortable with a tactic that arguably is a form of long-range assassination, after the furor about the CIA's use of nonlethal methods known as "enhanced interrogation." Posted by: Puget Sound | December 03, 2010 at 03:05 PM
The problem Pres Obama has is he can't add people to GITMO which makes it better to just launch a missle at 'em and whoever is standing by their side on a riverbank albeit a fellow 'suspected' terrorist or a small child who is getting water for his family.
Wonder how many additional terrorists we are generating with THAT policy.
"The number of drone attacks on the tribal areas has increased with more assaults in September and October of 2010 than in all of 2008. At the same time, efforts to capture al-Qaeda suspects have virtually stopped. Indeed, if CIA operatives were to snatch a terrorist tomorrow, the agency wouldn’t be sure where it could detain him for interrogation."
Oh by the way, this is the 'good war' that Pres Obama endorsed. You know, the one in Afghanistan that he has continued into Pakistan.
Yet, no one on the LEFT protests this.

Hence, the use of quotations. Nice that you read the posting close enough to catch the 'ad icon' but couldn't address the questions posed.
C'mon Sparky, you were all up in righteous anger about Waterboarding...what say you now?
Is it okay with a Dem doing the killing of innocents in an undeclared war like this? Is this really better than 'torture' like waterboarding?
Posted by: Puget Sound | December 03, 2010 at 03:25 PM
Putz;
This is a dissimilar matter than the one you offered on the other thread. I share my answer with David Ignatius, the fellow you have quoted.
“U.S. and Pakistani officials support drone attacks because they don't see a good alternative to combat al-Qaeda's operations in the tribal areas.”
And the same article no less…

You may have confused Sparky with high emotion, misinformation, Joanie.
No one has come forward to be up front about what are the resident liberal progressives fighting for ? There's no reason not to believe they are having difficulty focusing like a laser beam on that question. Did George Soro's puppet strings get them tangled up ? LOL.
(reminds me - watch the John Stewart parody on Glenn Beck's vent on Soros - fairly hilarious)
Noting that the Democratic party has recently been fracturing and splitting apart - between the radical revolutionary leftists and the standard leftists.
