“I have determined that suspending Keith through and including Monday night's program is an appropriate punishment for his violation of our policy. We look forward to having him back on the air Tuesday night." Phil Griffin in a statement Sunday night.
After a firestorm caused by NBC's weird and rather stunningly arbitrary decision, seen by many as a trial balloon for getting rid of Olbermann deflated, and fell to earth.
The network, and Mr. Griffen specifically, were inundated with avalanches of calls and emails. If Keith doesn't intimidate easily, what made MSNBC think his viewers would??

Looks to me like Comcast realized that ditching Olbermann would be too financially ruinous, or at least that their methods have not been the least bit subtle. Don't worry, they'll have their way in the end. These are not the acts of a complacent management. Don't believe for a second that this was the sole decision of Phil Griffin. You can't get away with high level decapitation without approval, or guidance from the highest levels of oversight.
Posted by: Andrew | November 08, 2010 at 11:59 AM
But they indicated it was "Indefinite". 2 days sounds pretty definite and Phil probably knew that.
Posted by: Coiler | November 08, 2010 at 12:28 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if Olbermann was not in on it. You cannot be that big and break any law whatsoever PERIOD...Caesar's laws or Comcast's...people who earn that much money and are into those type of contracts don't sneeze publicly without having it cleared by someone, and they seldom write their own checks; google "private banking" and see how the .5% really live. If it was an accident someone's head will roll for real.
But this creates a lot of buzz that gets MSNBC and Fox into the news cycle...drawing a dichotomy that ultimately makes Fox look less newsworthy. Interesting timing, too, right after Election Day when, for obvious reasons, all news ratings are in free-fall.
Assume *everyone* is lying to you, then try to sort it out yourself and you might get close to the truth on occasion. :-)
Posted by: Jason Andersen | November 08, 2010 at 02:21 PM
Dori would say something like that.
If anything ,it was a stunt by Phil Griffin to embarrass Keith and set a tone. It looks like it backfired since Kudlow and Buchannan have both donated money to the GOP since the policy was enacted in 2007.
Posted by: Coiler | November 08, 2010 at 03:10 PM
To Mr. Anderson's credit, Olbermann is known for having a huge ego, and it was expected that even if asked to return, he would refuse out of spite. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, I go with Vegas odds most of the time, but it's possible that Griffin said something along the lines of "... it just so happens you broke an obscure rule that barely applies to you, but I have a plan that will score you points with your liberal audience and score NBC points with everyone else." Who better to know how to manipulate the news than the news business itself?

When Palin or Hannity raise money for conservatives how is it any different from Harold Ford or Big Ed Schultz doing the same for liberals.
Anyone want to tackle that one?

A Brief Publisher's Message
Dear Reader,
Tomorrow, November 9, 2010, we are officially releasing former president George W. Bush's new book, Decision Points, and we would like to make the following requests:
* Please do not take copies off the shelf, open them to a random page, insert a quantity of spit, nasal discharge or chewing gum, slam them shut and put them back on the shelf.
* Please do not draw horns on Mr. Bush's head---be they a ram's, a goat's or Satan's. Please also no forked tails or thought-bubbles that say, "Heckuva Job."
* Please do not throw the book to the ground and stomp on it while yelling, "You suck!"
* Please do not knock over the bookcase on which Decision Points is displayed, as this could result in a domino effect on the other bookcases and cause damage and/or injury to other customers.
* Please do not attempt to move copies of the book from the Non-fiction section of the store to the Humor or Fantasy sections.
* Please do not whip out a Sharpie and add "Awesome book---if properly shredded" to the list of testimonial blurbs on the back cover.
We know you're upset at how badly he screwed you over, but please: let's be civil.
Thank you,
Your Friends at Crown Publishing
P.S. Democrats, this letter applies to you, too.

PUTZ SETS UP A STRAW MAN. WHATS NEW?
Rachel Maddow's commentary applies to on-air exposure time, not the POLITICAL CONTRIBUTION POLICY WHICH MSNBC HAS AND FOX NEWS DOES NOT HAVE.
You're wrong again. When are you ever not wrong.
Posted by: Andrew | November 08, 2010 at 10:16 PM
Funny how Bush only comes out into the public limelight to answer for what he has done when he happens to be selling a book. This is a guy who's forever inching his way to the top of the mountain on the back of the American people. He fucked the people then, he's fucking the people now, and he will find some way to fuck them again. It's what he does.

Fox has a policy for its newspeople on political contributions. They don't have one for their non news people like Hannity, et al.
MSNBC makes a blanket policy for all it's people.
Yet, MSNBC engages in the same conduct as evidenced in the above youtube clip I provide. So I guess that makes it worse for MSNBC.
Really Andrew, don't go ph(J)oanie on us.
Posted by: Puget Sound | November 09, 2010 at 04:28 AM
Andrew
I give you direct evidence in the form of MSNBC clips and you are in denial. Actually, you remind me of Sparky a bit on this one.
Awhile back,I made a harsh comment about Rhandi Rhodes so called 'joke' on Bush being assassinated.
Sparkles replies it isn't true.
I bring forth the transcripts.
Sparkles says she doesn't believe it.
And if it did happen, it was the staff.
I then get the MP3 for her to listen to. Out of Rhandi's own beer soaked piehole. yucks all around the studio at the thought of the President shot.
Lame. But it speaks to her 'fans' that she thought they would get a charge out of it.
Does Sparkles own up? Heck no, she gets in her Dodge and rides her credibility out of town.

Matt Lauer is a PUKE. Don't care for W. Bush but Lauer was obviously hostile and combative with Bush as he sat opposite him in a police grilling room table and chairs seting. Clinton would have been ebsconced in a luxurious living room with sofas and a fireplace, to discuss his book . NBC is a joke. By the way i'm certain that Lauer must have photos of NBC executives doing various things they shouldn't be doing. How long has this full of himself, cocky turd been there on Today? Ages. the guy is not that good .

Posted by: Dory | November 09, 2010 at 01:36 PM
its not hype if you can do it. As i said here just the other day, not enough tries with agents yet to empirically prove my book/writing's merit one way or another. yeah i BELIEVE it will be published, so what? sue me. my stock market abilities have been already proven . "No one" believes me? That's a bit much. people liek you won't believe me of course, your type always doesn't want to believe someone else can do something that they can't. Sounds like you have "little man's syndrome", Dory. haha Dory. glad i'm me and-you're not.
Posted by: Tommy008 | November 09, 2010 at 02:01 PM
I believe you'll find that virtually all my posts where i mention my stock trading abiliities have never been simply gratuitous boasts posted in a vacuum, but rather part of my responses to various posts attacking me, and pegging me either as some envious old failure/troll or as some sort of loser/lowlife who lives in mom's basement, works in a mini-mart, or is on welfare. Mentioning the stock trading is perfectly acceptable when i'm responding to these personal attacks.

Agreed, Lauer has become a jacka$$ and shows it periodically. He is just one of the reasons why NBC sucks - Meet the Press sucks now, since Russert is gone and it's mainly partisan hackery, as is ABC's This Week with Christian Amanpour - a progressive globalist. Stephanopolous was decent as a host, except he caved in to having hacks like John Podesta, which is a Soros puppet on as a panel member and Paul Krugman is another hack, disguised as an economist.
It's no surprise that the viewership of NBC and ABC are down for those programs.
Posted by: KS | November 09, 2010 at 07:13 PM
Paul Krugman, Hack/Nobel prize winner. Dirty boy! Probably French.
Christian Amanpour, Progressive Globalist. I bet she eats funny smelling food and can speak a foreign language!

Posted by: Coiler | November 09, 2010 at 07:58 PM
gee Coils, what channel were you on?
bad news, from WSJ on how the Repubs may have 'actual' control of the Senate while the Dims have nominal control.
"...So, in theory, that means Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid, having survived his own election-day near-death experience, should be able to muster 53 votes if he keeps his troops in line.
Full Results by State
Senate, House, governors' and other races at the state, district and county level
But life is never that simple in the Senate and certainly won't be now. Among the Senate Democrats, 23 will face re-election in just two years, and, having just witnessed the drubbing some in their party took at the polls, they likely will be even less willing now to toe the party line. Independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, who caucuses with Democrats, often leans rightward, anyway.
More important, among those 23 Democrats who face voters in 2012 are a handful of incumbents from the kind of moderate to conservative states where Democrats took a beating last week: Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Jon Tester of Montana, Jim Webb of Virginia and Claire McCaskill of Missouri. Joe Manchin, who just won a Senate race in West Virginia by separating himself from President Barack Obama and his party's congressional leaders, also faces voters again in two years because he was elected only to fill out an unexpired term."

The interview was lost on you Polluted over a simple question which showed Raisin Brain arrogance.
Scott Brown btw is in the Tea Party sights in 2012 along with Kyl, Hutchinson and others. Too liberal for your side, LOL?
Posted by: Coiler | November 09, 2010 at 08:53 PM
It is true, the prospects in Congress look pretty good for the GOP in 2012, but the House majority will have to produce or the advantage in 2012 could disappear just like it did for the Dims this year. As for President, the GOP looks stronger in 2016 than in 2012. Which Democrat looks strong other than Barry Soetoro-Obama, now that Hillary Clinton won't be running ?
"Scott Brown btw is in the Tea Party sights in 2012 along with Kyl, Hutchinson and others. Too liberal for your side, LOL?"
Posted by: Coiler |
How in the world do you know that ? They should leave Scott Brown alone or risk having another Dem elected. The Tea Party did not do the best job at vetting candidates for the Senate, but got a lot of talented new people in the House.
Coils gets the distorted views of the left who are constantly trying to diss the Tea Party. MSLSD or any of the Soros minions are out to diminish the Tea Party because it hurts their agenda. It's time to investigate Mr. Soros for his intrusion into our national economic and political affairs that are probably illegal in some areas.

Yes, Krugman won a Nobel Prize and so did Yassir Arafat and Al Gore - for what ??? (that has become a faux prize). That doesn't take away the fact he is a political hack. Amanpour is Iranian - I know, but she emulates the ruling class and wears her progressivism on her sleeve. Arianna Huffington might as well host it, except she is more obnoxious and witchy.
Jake "Tap tap the chiesler" Tapper was an excellent fill in host and is one of the best reporters there is, along with Major Garrett. The alphabet channels are in a sorry state.

DID YOU HEAR the latest? Big sweep by the Feds nationwide to arrest Somali gang members who have been luring, snatching and pimping out 14 and 13 year old girls, selling them into sex slavery. The news report said Seattle is a big hub for these gangs, picking up runaways right at the Westlake Mall and other downtown locations. It's disguasting that we let worthless pukes and cockroaches like these Somalis into this country. All immigrants are good though, according to Joanie. Wonderful people, better than us natives.

To elaborate on Coil's claim taken from RedState.com, here is the list of Senators up for election in 2012;
John Barasso (WY)
Scott Brown (MA)
Bob Corker (TN)
John Ensign (NV)
Orrin Hatch (UT)
Kay Bailey Hutchison (TX)
Jon Kyl (AZ)
Richard Lugar (IN)
Olympia Snowe (ME)
Roger Wicker (MS)
Just to clarify — this is the list of every Republican up for re-election in the Senate. They are from whom targets will be chosen by the tea party and are not all targets themselves.
