The area that was the grocery store is now part of the Northgate food court.
On Wednesdays, Seattlepi.com offers “Seattle Rewind,” a local history podcast highlighting stories from our city’s past. Feliks Banel hosts a segment on Seattle radio history. Download it here.
1952 was the year a young man would come to the Northwest from Los Angeles to begin what would become a long radio career. Jim French worked at 'the Mighty 1090' for eight years before he moved over to KIRO.In a 1960 interview with the Seattle Times, French explained why he moved to the sedate KIRO by saying that KING was programming way too much rock and roll for his tastes.

Interesting, Dale. I always had the impression Mr.French--a pro whom I admire very much--hated rock and roll, like many others of that generation, such as Steve Allen. Didn't Mr. French always wear a suit and tie at work?
Might have been an interesting team: Jim French and Wolfman Jack!
I'm seeing Jim French in suit and tie working with Phil Harper, barefoot in bib overalls.
I'm a regular lister to Imagination Theater--be nice to see a blatherwatch story about it.

Hey Pete, anti-Dori and BRhino...instead of arguing with these guys, I invite you to send whatever $$ you can afford to [email protected]
Cup of Joe is a program set up by progessives who want to let soldiers know that even though we are personally against the war, we never waiver in our support for THEM. It is 2$ per cup of really good coffee ( not mess hall swill ) and you can send as little or as much as you can afford. I sent $60 to buy 30 cups of coffee and have received thank you notes each week--the soldiers are encouraged to email a note back to us. I have even been invited to be pen pals with a couple of them. The coffee bars are set up in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and I got a thank you message from Guam today, too.
It breaks my heart to read a couple of the notes from the men who have come to realize that we are never going to change the minds of the Afghanies, but keep their heads down and do their jobs as best as they can.
It is a very rewarding program all the way around.
