KIRO's Dave Ross, (m-f, 9a-12p) has been chosen as "Communicator of the Year," by the Association Women in Communications.
“Our winner was selected not only for his continued dedication to honest, open communication in his primary job as a radio host, but also for the incredible impact his communications activities have had on the entire community, and the lasting legacy his vision and energy has created for multiple events.” Ross is credited with heading the successful grassroots campaign to save the Lake Union Fourth of July fireworks display this past July.
The timing is portune, if not exquisite, for Dave. A professional hat-feather at a moment when Bonneville programmers are trying to figure out what to do with him.
His ratings in that vital slot have been dragging, but at a PR level, it would be painful to fire the beloved Dave, even though he's not that far from retirement. (Seattleites "belove" him to death, but not enough to actually listen to him in large enough numbers to keep him on the air).
Things like his hugely successful 4th of July community action and this award make it tougher to edge him out.
By the way he announces "the Dave Ross Show with Luke Burbank," and with the generally comfortable feel of them together, it sure feels like this couple may be heading to the on-air altar, so to speak. We expect an announcement by the end of the week. (Of course we've said that before).
Perhaps not enough people listen to Ross, but he's got the educated, informed and prosperous class on his side. Unless, of course, they're in radio.

A perfect award for Ross as he gets ready to move to KUOW, making way for the "new" TBTL - daytime version.

Dave so 'jumped the shark' a few years ago.
He should never have come back after losing the election.

"Jumped the shark" is SO a Dori [girl's name] phrase.

This reminds of the story of the little girl whose mother told her the secret to life is to be happy. When she got older and entered school, they asked her what she wanted to be, and she said "happy". They told her she didn't understand the assignment. She told them they didn't understand life.
Dave and his show make people happy. I would guess that Dave himself is quite happy. They get the meaning of life.

Is there an Association Of Angry Fiftysomething White Men With Tiny Penises that can give Dori an award? I hate to see him left out.

hah! good one.

After that nice little happiness story?
I think Dori is happy and he makes many listeners happy...
That's the problem with that whole thing...
Ron and Don make people happy and I loathe them both.
Different tastes for different people.
Dave Ross seems a good human, happy to see him get some obscure award anytime.

The reason no one listens is that is he on the FM side of the KIRO screw up. NO ONE LISTENS to that side of KIRO, since you can't hear him outside downtown Seattle
Posted by: Ticked Off | September 23, 2010 at 10:26 AM
I can't hear it in downtown seattle!

So why is it that none of you seem to have reception in Seattle but I can hear 97.3 just fine in Centralia? Reception was never a problem for KBSG, they sat near the top of the ratings for years. I don't believe reception is the issue.

Luke is turning the Dave Ross Show into TBTL. I tuned in for a minute and they were talking about ironic hipsters. Ironic hipsters.
Ironic hipsters.

I like Luke and I like Dave but please no more hipsters. Small doses OK, but they're in every movie, every TV show and every commercial with their cutesy, mumbling, tinkling, hipster music. It's rage-inducing.

I like Dave Ross but I just can't listen to that pretentious ass, Luke Burbank. I'll start listening again when Luke is gone for good. If KIRO thinks the ratings are bad now, wait until they get rid of Dave and give the show to Burbank.
