KIRO staffers must be even more uneasy reading today their parent company in Salt Lake City is cutting The Deseret News staff by nearly half and moving what's left of the paper five blocks away into the cubicle farms at the KSL-TV/KSL Radio and merging newsrooms.  (Wow. radio and teevee reporters reporting for print! Who'll they Google? )

Labor Day marks another traditional radio slaughtering season. 

The killing ground may be at KIROFM. As reported, the once and mighty market leader, slid in the July book to 18th in the market; sporting KIROAM with its huge blowtorch is in dismal 17th place, and little sister KTTH is ranked 20th. (Limbaugh and Beck can't save KTTH: anyone ever think (besides us) that maybe live, local liberal talk might work in this liberal town? We did, do)

Comeback yid: rabbi lapin makes the glenn beck mainstage

Disgraced former Seattle talk host Rabbi Daniel Lapin, in his role again as "show rabbi of the religious right," appeared onstage Saturday to help Glenn Beck "non-politically" reclaim Martin Luther King legacy for himself.

Beck gathered every religious leader in America corrupt enough to be publicly associated with him. The charming, yarmulka-ed Dan Lapin, not surprisingly, was front and center. (Restoring Honor?..." Daniel Lapin?)

Ted Nugent f-bombs the county fair; natives are "up in arms"

"What rock did they find Ted Nugent under? I am very angry at [the] choice of words used during his concert," wrote Jennifer L. Mangum on the Tri-City Herald's Facebook page Friday.

Ted Nugent appeared at the Benton/Franklin County (WA) Fair Thursday and carpet F-bombed - not only his own concert - but the entire fairgrounds where kids and grannies were thicker than curly-fries.

Old Seattle Radio Saturday: laugh track with gary lockwood

Gary Lockwood (as Captain LockJock) and B.R. Bradbury's 'World Famous Police Blotter' bit was a Seattle radio comic classic. The above is from KJR, December 1981.

(We prefer hysterical laughter only when something is hysterically funny. We know, we know about the laughter clubs in India, and that the "feigned hysterical" is a well-established talk radio device. Note the braying Rush, Dori Monson, Ken Schram, Frank Shiers. There's truth to the old saw that 'false laughter always ends in tears.' We're not sure the hyenic laughter above matches the quality - or lack of- of the material).

After KJR, (1976-1992) Lockwood went to KZOK until he retired in 1996. In 1991, then KXRX GM Steve West told the Seattle Times:

"He had a sense of humor that was very much what Northwest radio was all about -- a little sarcastic, just offbeat. [...] I would think Gary's at least on the borderline of being an institution."

Allen prell's new novel is a book (and vice versa)

Our old friend and former KIRO blabbermeister, Allan Prell, now living in Virginia, has published his second book, this time a comic novel, Meth For Less.

Allan's literary credo is, "Never an adjective where two will do," and he rarely disappoints in keeping that ambitious, verbacious promise.

Glenn beck has a scheme

There’s not much to say that hasn’t been said about Glenn Beck’s ‘I Have A  Scheme Rally’ at the Lincoln Memorial Saturday.

We'll say it anyway.

The pudgy champion (KTTH m-f, 6-9a) of preservation of the pre-WW1 state of the union, says God is working through him, and apparently it's God's will that his hopes to deliver a speech subsuming Martin Luther King's efforts 47 years ago on this date.

King is the previous record holder for historic speechifying at this location. Beck says he "coincidentally" scheduled it on the anniversary the "I have A Dream" speech, a hallmark in the progressive struggle for civil justice and equality.

Ted nugent says the president is a 'moslem operative'; we say ted nugent is a tool

Ted Nugent pulled his wrinkly, yet mighty, dick out on the air today and waved it around on the otherwise dickless Dori Monson Show (KIRO m-f, 12-3p).

Not news. But telling the sycophanting Dori that Obama is definitely a Moslem... that IS news (such as we get around here). He also said he believes the president is a Moslem Manchurian candidate who has, through deceit, gained amazing power in this nation and this world.

Dori (AKA the Photos-of-the-girls-fired-from-Hooters-for-being-too-fat guy) called the old rocker "Nuge," flattered him embarrassingly - sounding at times like he was hitting on him.

The aging rocker told Dori: "You deserve me." We couldn't agree more.

Nuge is in the Indian casino stage of his career, he's playing at one on the scenic Kitsap Peninsula.
