Tea-party baggers (that’s the politically correct term, we’re told) have had a bad week, organization-wise. Of course they could blame it on tyrannical Obamic bureaucrats, if they haven't already.
First, the Tea Party Unity Convention long scheduled for July 15 in Las Vegas was postponed to an unspecified date in October. Reason: lack of interest, although they now claim it's “too hot” in Vegas in the summertime.
(Baggers, organizers say, would rather be with their families than dangle their testicles in the warm orifices of democracy at that time of year even though it'd be in the air-conditioned comforts of The Palazzo).
Glenn Beck’s tea baggery (with Sarah Palin) modestly touted as the "turning point of the 21st century" may not happen for lack of a permit. It's scheduled, in his mind, at least, for the date (August 28) and at the location (the Lincoln Memorial) where Martin Luther King made his historic I Have A Dream speech.
LA talker Bill Press, who's been casting Beck’s party as an insult to King and Abe Lincoln, called the Nat’l Park Service to discover, to his delight and total surprise: Beck has no permit… and may not get one.Actually, Beck first touted it as the launch party for his upcoming book, The Plan, a blueprint for the next 100 years in America that would erase the social and political progress of the last 100 years. (Imagine an American utopia with civil rights for rich, white men only and the Libber-dee of no seat belts or school lunch programs).1. Even though the poster for Beck’s rally shows the Lincoln Memorial, the event would actually be held on the steps of the Reflecting Pool in front of the Memorial, not on the steps of the Memorial itself.
2. At this point, according to Line, no final permit has been awarded for the August 28 event. The permit is still pending, and may not in fact be approved. Nevertheless, Beck is already selling t-shirts and posters for the event – and inviting members of the public to attend.
He later decided that the rally would be a tribute to the military, although he stipulated that no funds would go to the designated charity until after his rally was paid for. In other words: after the luxury hotels for he and Palin, the dinners, the jets, coolers brimming with premium root beers.
Will he get the permit? We'll be watching: The posters are out, the t-shirts sold and the Park Service, who hates controversy, is balking in the facing a firestorm of criticism.
Beck's star is falling. Conservatives are getting over their fear of a black president. Reflected in the ratings.

still obsessed with race, are we?

I highly suggest last week's Stranger and the article, "Republicans I have Fucked." Yeah, there're the usual suspects: young, pompous bow-tie clad old-money Nixon hacks from the Upper East Side and the Ivy League; *lots and lots* of military men (make you almost think that Eric Massa was the rule and not the exception); neo-Nazi types who'd prolly been to prison; stuffy metrosexual new-money downtown Bellevue dudes; and, of course our clergymen. But the best story of 'em all is about the Tea-Party Tranny.

LMAO

Its true that the Park Service doesn't like controversy..so they may cave. But this lack of organization on all fronts is an interesting juxtaposition to the media coverage they get.

Am I obsessed with race or is putz just obsessed with me?
Posted by: Andrew | July 01, 2010 at 09:43 AM
Its the new rule, Andrew. If you point out racism, it makes you a racist. Interesting, huh?

no, just obsessed with asinine comments and thoroughly enjoy calling it out.

"Restoring Honor?" Obviously thta presumes that So Beck and his cronies are going to play some music, arouse the lemmings with a few speech and THAT will restore all this lost honor?
The website promoting the rally is here:
http://www.glennbeck.com/828/
Personally, I couldn't care less if it comes off or not; it's merely an opportunity for Beck and Palin to again bleat their tired old fears about "communists running America" and to place themselves at a non-existing "turning point" in American history. Ho hum.
But whether you agree or not, please note the final disclaimer at the bottom of the site:
"All contributions made to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) will first be applied to the costs of the Restoring Honor Rally taking place on August 28, 2010. All contributions in excess of these costs will then be retained by the SOWF."
Yep: Sarah's $100,000 fee, her jet, entourage, hotel, etc. Beck's expenses, cost of entertainment. Crowd security, public address equipment, and on and on and on. All under the guise of contributing to those who have served the country. The complete lack of shame Beck displays is the height of hubris. THIS is the right's New Leader?
You contribute, you're a sap.

putz, you're wrong. Glenn Beck race bated. Beck brought race into this before I ever did. Please stick to topics you know something about, whatever that might be.
I bet you just don't want to admit that you share a common ideology with kncuckle dragging racists. That's the company you keep. Own up to it.

You forgot that it is also a venue at which Beck's book will be sold.. And I wonder who's going to have to clean up the place when they're done. Judging from what I hear on Hartmann's program, a lot of ordinary people are really pissed off. Maybe some of them are tea-party-baggers. Es posible? I imagine some of them are looking for jobs, too. They have a lot more time to listen to the radio these days . . .
A caller on Hartmann today said that the Dems should make the conservatives actually do the filibusters. I agree with that. Watching their wonderful congressional heroes stand up there reading the phone book instead of passing vital legislation might wake some of them up to what's really going on. They're bullies.
Oh, and the first words out of sput's mouth is an insult to Andrew rather than a comment on the topic. Now who could have guessed . . .
Posted by: joanie | July 01, 2010 at 11:34 AM
Many people would rest easier if there were more filibusters, so I agree in part with Hartmann. Hah ! the filibusterers are not the bullies, its the Democratic Congress leadership who are the bullies and impervious to being reasonable - ramming through bills against the will of the people in their own selfish desperation to cement their legacy before many of them get thrown out after the election in November.
With more filibusters, there would be fewer damaging bills signed by the man-child president who has a retarded view of economics.
It is looking like even money for a double dip recession - according to the financial sector, once the increased taxes kick in at the beginning of 2011.

Didn't the "will of the people" determine that democrats were in charge this time? Just which people are you talking about?
Posted by: joanie | July 01, 2010 at 01:06 PM
"Many people would rest easier if there were more filibusters"
No,, they wouldn't. Not in a recession or as a result of the big banks and BP fuck-ups. Play that card in November

Posted by: joanie | July 01, 2010 at 01:06 PM
You will find out in November.

Ah... once again, a topic pertaining to Glenn Beck has careened aimlessly off-course and degenerated into a school-yard slapfest of name-calling and political nonsense.
Good job guys... both the "Post At Random" typists and the Moderator who clearly don't give a flying flip about who runs their board.
So, since we're about a hundred miles off-topic, permit me to add that including the news about the Groz and KJR is certainly worth inclusion to this subject on this site; even if you really don't care about sports, the jockfests on KJR and KIRO-AM area are clearly involved in Talk Radio so IT COUNTS!

Honestly, Ben, who are you? There is always someone complaining that dull threads get derailed. I notice you didn't post anything electrifying or even interesting. Wanna try again?
There must be something about Glenn Beck that hasn't been said. Did you know he's from Mount Vernon?
Posted by: joanie | July 01, 2010 at 10:24 PM
Sarah Palin, the original tea "bag lady", may have hitched her wagon to the wrong horses ass. Beck has big plans, none of which seems to be completely thought through. Permit Glenny boy...as in, sure, we might let you do it. Or not.

Let's see, when Dem's win it's 'the will of the people' and the filibuster is awful.
When Repub's win it's 'election fraud' and the filibuster is a good thing.
What a ph(J)oanie...

here you go, coils:
"Byrd was not just a "casual" member of the KKK for a short period of time. He officially joined the Klan in 1942. He was a Kleagle, basically a recruiter convincing others to join the Klan. Byrd himself bragged that he had recruited over 150 members for his local chapter. And while Byrd himself worked very hard to convince others to join the Klan, no one recruited him. He was the one that initiated contact with the Klan, according to his own autobiography, after seeing a newspaper ad. Joining the Klan was all Byrd's idea from the get-go. They must have really seen eye to eye, because within a few years his local chapter elected him Exalted Cyclops.
Byrd publically claimed he left the Klan in 1943, but this is a highly dubious claim at best, especially given that in 1945 he wrote a letter to Mississippi’s Senator Theodore Bilbo stating he would never "fight in the armed forces with a Negro at my side". Then later in 1947 he wrote a letter to Dr. Samuel Green, the Imperial Wizard of the Klan at the time, in which he stated “The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia and in every state in the nation.”
In 1964 Byrd fillibustered the Civil Rights Act for more than 14 hours, during that time he made the argument that the founders did not intend that the words "All men are created equally" in the Declaration of Independence were meant to be interpreted literally. “Men and races of men differ in appearance, ways, physical power, mental capacity, creativity, and vision".
Also during this fillibuster Byrd went on to introduce a “study” from the book The Mind of Primitive Man that stated that white people’s brains weighed a few grams more than black people’s brains, and that whites were thus more intelligent. He even cited so called scriptural support for his segregationist views. All of this a full 21 years after he had supposedly "broken all ties" with the Klan.
In 1968 Byrd contacted the FBI, suggesting he give a speech condemning Dr. Martin Luther King on the floor of the Senate. The FBI declined.
Byrd is also the only Senator to have voted against both African American nominees to the supreme court, both a liberal (Marshall) and a conservative (Thomas). Since he voted against both, it's hard to imagine that it was political ideology that was his motivation.
Even as late as 2001, during a television interview Byrd used the n word repeatedly, and later had to apologize. He was referring to people as "white (expletive deleted) " several times thoughout the interview. He later claimed it was just an "expression" from his childhood.*
Somehow, methinks the MSM will give this a big .. well, whitewash, if you'll forgive the obvious pun."

What you need to know about me "Joanie" is that I'm a former broadcaster. What YOU need to do is simply read my earlier post; one that ACTUALLY SPEAKS ON THE TOPIC OF GLENN BECK, not filibusters or the KKK.
And your comment that "Did you know (Beck) is from Mount Vernon?" has to be the most unoriginal, unnecessary comment ever posted ont this board. You mean the same Mount Vernon that only last September erupted in controversy over "Glenn Beck Day?" In the future, "Joanie," perhaps you will actually direct your uninformed ramblings toward subjects that haven't previously been driven into the ground.
Posted by: BenSeattle | July 02, 2010 at 09:37 AM
Golly gee, Ben, my point exactly. And my most unoriginal comment was meant to be exactly that You got it. Thank you.
BTW, I'm the one who added to your comment re book sales. So, at your suggestion, I'll sit back and watch all the riveting new and original Glenn Beck comments roll in.
Now, about those other "uninformed" comments like . . . ?
Posted by: joanie | July 02, 2010 at 11:05 AM
A big fat apology to Ben. I reread my post and I guess I took your comments about derailing personally. Michael got on me about that a while back. And he was right, of course.
I like your posts and hope you stick around. Unfortunately, some of us are way political and derailing is easy to do.
