As we wait for Bonneville to drop the shoe, we’ll out point out another (CBS Radio) company’s apparent step in the revamping of a local station.
Country music giant KMPS (no.7 in the market) has moved Tony Thomas (a veteran of 20+ years from afternoon drive to middays (m-f, 10 a-3p). (He's married, btw, to KIRO’s
morning co-anchor, Linda Thomas).
Loyal leader, BT writes, “With Ichabod Caine gone, Tony moving to middays (plus continuing his duties as music director) and Hughes to afternoon drive, looks like a fairly significant re-tooling of programming at KMPS.”
(Don't you KIRO-inis think you can sleep tight- there's dead men still walking at Eastlake, they just don't know they're dead... yet).
I seem to remember a so-called KIRO insider claiming that Ron & Don would be gone by the end of June. Would that person like to affirm that statement?

By shoe dropping, do you mean talk show hosts or more news changes? Noticed that KIRO has a job opening posted for a morning news host. I assumed Tony Miner was temporary. He's boring and doesn't have the right energy for mornings. Maybe Ron and/or Don will do mornings?

R&D in morning drive -- a concept that's beyond revolting. That would seal the deal on KIRO -- sending the iconic and once-powerful KIRO brand to radio hell, and ensure KOMO's dominance in the market.
Sadly, it would also mean complete and utter decimination of KIRO's estimable news department.
Prospects like these make it no wonder the respected and highly capable Ursula Reutin -- ousted as news director -- will choose to "spend more time with her family."

That's the story of this blog. There is no "inside information", no "anonymous tips", Michael is not a small-time, local radio version of Julius Assange.
There's just some obvious observations that get repeated enough that eventually they'll come true by the law of averages. It's a traveling crystal ball routine. The act of a tarot card reader in a walk-up on Aurora.
(That, and uncredited summaries of radio-info.com message board posts.)

What I'd like to know is...does this signal the end of the song "Finally Friday" at 5 o'clock of Friday afternoons? They've been playing it for years. My weekend can't really begin until I hear that played.

'(He's married, btw, to KIRO’s morning co-anchor, Linda Thomas).'
Wow! Methinks he got the better deal there.
