Taking time out from daily radio fare like Mylie Cyrus going commando or flacking the Invisible Fence, Dori Monson (KIRO m-f, 12-3p) is calling for Seattle Mayor McGinn’s impeachment.
WHO'S PAYING FOR THIS? Dori brayed Thursday and today. AND HOW MUCH ARE WE PAYING?
The victims were Ethiopians, poor black kids - “garbage people,” in Dori-speak- probably responsible for their own deaths with their 3rd world ignorance and lack of good parenting and accountability.
There might be some culpability by the city for the deaths - a malfunction of a fire truck, but Dori hasn't got the huevos to take on the firefighters, even if they are agents of Seattle socialists.
Dori’s no racist, but he is a race hustler- this “issue” can be seen as racial, as political correctness gone wild. Diversity run amuck. It’s a narrative his listeners want to hear and hear frequently from right-wing media. (Dori's ratings have been trailing those of the lowest common denominating Ron & Don (m-f, 3-7p) lately).
Playing to his much-dwindled, suburban/exurban, white male audience Monson chooses regularly to tightrope-walk the race line, playing to the listeners’ prejudicial fears that their world is slipping away. His shows feature video clips of scary-looking black criminals, and uppity black teenagers.
It’s the tension that makes the sick world of Dori Monson and other “little Limbaughs” and “baby Becks,” pencil. (It’s where the real Limbaughs and Beck have their lunch as well). To be accused of being racist is a chance for even more righteous indignation in this arena. If Dori can walk that line without falling off, it’s win-win. Why, he asks, do these (read black) foreigners get such an “extraordinary public ceremony” from Seattle when it’s not given to the two (read white) Decatur High School teenagers killed recently by a drunk driver? Or the patriotic correctness: why don’t the troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan get the same treatment?
The high school kids, actually from Federal Way, not Seattle, are being largely and publicly mourned in their home town. The troops a have been honored in many venues including Seattle Center’s Memorial Stadium.Dori repeatedly plays the Muslim card, saying he doesn’t know if they’re Muslims but in case they are: he's gotta ask: If they were Christians and this a Christian ceremony, would secular Seattle be doing this?
The victims were Christians, of course, most Ethiopians are. (Not sure why he didn’t know that: it’s in the very Seattle Times piece he’s been quoting all day). Their Coptic Church has roots that predate the Church in Rome.
The cost was about $5000 and Seattle citizens paid. And we for one are happy to do it. Running a city isn't all about keeping the buses running - a small-change gesture like this goes a long way in bringing the East African community closer into the Seattle mainstream. The East Africans (Ethiopians, Somali's) are not universally accepted even by African-American communities. We've a long way to go to absorb these folks. They're here, after all, after being given asylum by the US government when the pro-Marxist government began political/ethnic cleansing in Ethiopia, a country previously very friendly to this country.
Guess what, Dori: Seattle is an intensely diverse city. And always has been. It’s also left-leaning and big-hearted. And always has been. That’s one of the reasons people such as us (and we’re in the overwhelming majority) love living in this city.
That’s why you moved to the suburbs.
(Is Dori Monson just plain mean? Or is he a sociopath who'll say anything to get people riled up for his ratings? Or... could he be mean, greedy AND insensitive?).
People keep telling us that Dori is really a nice guy, a great parent and a man of good faith. But how can anyone walk around being a regular guy evenings and weekends after casting nasturtiums on any public person taller than himself, and stirring up as much anger and hatred as he possibly can on weekdays? He’s a flawed individual with a girl’s name who has truly earned his pariah status in the media and with most regular people in this community.
We’re not particularly impressed with Mayor McGinn, but we’re betting that Dori’s call for impeachment would strengthen the mayor’s standing in the city - if, of course, anyone was actually listening to Dori's call.
Any of you get the same feeling? the creepyness factor of Duffman's latest worshipful, adoring post concerning Monson getting the head coach job made the hair on my neck stand up. eewww

I guess I'm a bit ignorant as to school systems these days. I was under the impression that one had to be a teacher, or have teaching credentials in order to be a coach.
Nonetheless, I can still picture Dori clinging to a player's leg a.l.a. Jeff Van Gundy/Alonzo Mourning style.
A little man, a loser, a maroon....an ultra maroon.

>>He’s a flawed individual with a girl’s name who has truly earned his pariah status in the media and with most regular people in this community. <<
As usual, Hood, your ad hominem attacks on Monson's first name totally undermine your cred. But I'm not surprised - calling people names is the foundation of the liberal point of view.
As for the $5000 - spending even a penny on this memorial is uncalled for when essential city services are being cut because of budget shortfalls.

Hahahahaha when the city pays for a vets funeral then you stupid people can start complaining dori is just doing his job which is making sure the stupid government is not over spending our money

How the heck can the school district hire him to be a coach when he admitted to "coaching" his daughter to cheat on that school assignment where she was supposed to attend An Inconvenient Truth but he told her to just get a used ticket stub and pretend she had attended?

MONSON FIRED AFTER ONE SEASON- Shorecrest High Pooper Scooper June 20 2011, -Dori Monson was fired by the Principal today after only one season as head coach of girl's basketball. After going to state last year, for the first time ever, the team won only one game. Principal Everts has grown to loathe the new coach and was seen physically escorting Monson off of the school grounds, followed by school security in a patrol vehicle. His parting shot to the little man was, "See ya, wouldn't wanT to be ya, you putz."
