So why are they drawing this out? How long does it take to make these decisions?

Duffman

Can someone tell what Dan Restione does at KIRO? As far as I can tell it's a corny bit in the morning. Is he hanging on because of his 'Harvard' or 'MIT' or whatever degree? Oh, wait a minute I remember something herein...way back about that. Oh well, keep the good news coming Bla'M. [May be Restione is Blatherwatch's source].

Duffman

In reference to above is this guy going to make it?

CorporateSuit

And c) they work extremely CHEAP!

Seriously...I believe that either Ron & Don will be moved into morning drive (or Marty Reamer and sidekick); Linda Thomas will be their "news person." I think they are going to toss out news blocks altogether. The Marty Reamer experience on Friday is evidence of this. I think you're going to see a total evaporation of news since they have acknowledged that KOMO has that moniker now. That would make Restinone redundant because he's the desk editor for mornings so he will be out. I think the entire "news desk" will be gone. Shiers and his producer are already creating content at night to recycle for mornings--and they don't need a desk editor to do that for them. A major shake-up with a complete separation from the "news" to more "personality" radio is to come, IMO.

Andrew

I suspect that Dave Ross is so close to retirement that he would rather just call it day than take a pay cut. He has a lot of other insterests outside of radio. If he goes off the air, my radio will stay fixed on KUOW, which is not what anyone wants.

AND YEAH - WHY THE FUCK DOES DAN RESTIONE STILL HAVE A JOB!?? DOES HE WORK FOR FREE??? I CANT BELIEVE THEYVE MADE CUTS IN THE NEWS DEPT AND HE SOMEHOW WASNT IT!!!

joanie

Maybe I'll start listening to podcast of Luke!

Duffman

Hang on, hang on 'ol Dave's not gone yet. Your favorites are still around, Dave Ross, chucks, Gen Wes Clark. Life is good for you.

Rat Bastard

I can't believe that keeping Ron and Don... Two guys doing one show makes financial sense.
Not only do I loathe their show, but I also turn away the second I hear either one doing ads.
I like Dave Ross enough, Dori has a great show, but I listen more and more to KVI, hoping that there will be changes to KIRO soon to bring me back.
Used to be that my dial stayed on KIRO all day.
Now the fm signal is so bad depending on the weather that the static gets me tuning out as well.
KIRO sure has fallen from it's once powerful spot at the top.

NoBS

Duffman, I thought I was the only one who didn't get it with Resitone. He does the most useless reports and sounds awful. If I cared about obscure British animal references, he'd be the guy but he is the biggest turn off they have on the mornings. They might as well toss out the news product, put someone interesting in there, let Linda Thomas do news and keep blogging and they'd all be better off.

Tommy008

if Dave and Dori are doing 80's talk shows, which they are, both of them, the morning news block KIROfm has been doing with Hersholt and company is srtaight out of 1975. I think they aer insulting the intelligence of the city with this banal crapola. How many times can we hear the male anchor banter forth with an ironic, perhaps slightly naughty quip followed by his chuckling scolding female counterpart. This is hackneyed, boring radio and the general public ,in this town at least, i believe, have moved beyond it.....

drool

Dori has been doing more and more national stuff. I think he is goign for Lou Dobbs schtick with his constant immigration ranting. He looks to be positionaing himself for the ability to go sindicated nationally.

Bill Wippel

Dori is to be commended for his sarcastic look at the world, which is so imperfect. Not like the Garden of Eden before "the fall."

His job is in danger as well. The station has to blow-out all on air folks and change to music and personality. When KVI dismantled the most glamarous talent in all the day parts, 6 greats hit the road. Dick Cross and Jack Morton. Hardwick wasted himself. Lou Gillette is gone. Jack Spencer and Bill Taylor are still around. Bring back those personalities including JP Patches! They would fit nicely in an all-oldies format with news at the top and bottom of the hour.

sparky

But isnt that what KIXI is now??

Tommy008

the Mormon bastards will declare Dori king of the new KIRO and he will become the one untouchable.....just my feeling , based on a lot of indications that the Mormon suits who run things like boorish classless rightwing asshats on the air and Dori certainly fills the bill...i believe htis will be a key judgement mistake on their part... building their new station around a physical and moral midget.....their "new/better kirofm will fail and they will dispose of the station....

joanie

Everybody says change to something different. It's all old and worn out. So, what's different? I don't see a recipe out there any better than the one they have. I'd like to see them bring talk radio back to AM for a try-out before they kick out the old menu for an untried new one.

God help us if we get anther stupid bunch of knuckle-draggers.

Besides, with so many people out of work, the potential for the market to go up is huge!

Ryder

I wonder how the big names contracts are written. If Dori, for instance, is let go would they still have to pay him until his contract expires? Dave? If their contracts allow it, I would not be surprised to see the whole station overhauled.

KIRO could go to personality with music. They've already got Shiers. Ron & Don would fit right into a music format.

How about if we just tear the place down and turn it into a park & ride.

Bill Wippel

Bonneville will have to honor the contracts. Most have a 6 month no appearane elsewhere (non-compete). That means they must stay off the air at another station. until six months from their firing is up.

Bonneville making changes does so with great landscaping. It will not be small but tall.

Bill Wippel

Regards to KIXI comment being "oldies"? No it's "fogies". They go all the way back to the 40's. Many of the tunes they play never made the top ten.

Tommy008

Pharm rep, notice please that your offensive and insulting (to me) comments have been thankfully deleted.....try to keep it above the belt Pharm rep in future

Bill Wippel

On the other hand: because there has been so much blood spilled at KTTH and KIRO AM/FM (meaning losses)97.3 could go oldies automation. KTTH, could pickup some of the ex-staffers of KIRO FM. Bonneville is probably not going to throw good money after bad by buying KJR just to get the huskies.

MacTwinny

There is no such thing as an accidental listener Duffman. There is no such thing as closet Monson listeners. There is such a thing a discerning listeners. I am one myself. I don't really think Dori Monson is a very nice person, but I listen 2 or 3 times a week. If the topic has my attention, I will listen. If not or if he is being annoying, there are plenty of options. You don't HAVE to listen to every word to qualify to comment

MacTwinny

And I would probably listen more to Monson if he allowed his brown-nose producer to put more callers with a contrary view on the air. It is usually pretty predictable when he is only going to take calls from people agree with him. That's when I turn to other forms of entertainment.

Fisher cut bait

JESUS! HOLD THE PHONE, KIRO! KOMO IS IN COMPLETE AND UTTER TURMOIL.. THE AFTERNOON SHOW IS A SHAMBLES. TINA NOLE HAS EVERYONE SEETHING. 2 REPORTERS HAVE QUIT, AND THE THIRD IN THE AFTERNOON IS IN TEARS EVERY DAY BECAUSE OF NOLE'S MISMANAGEMENT. "NINE TO NOON" IS FALLING APART, REPORTERS ARE LOOKING FOR NEW JOBS, AND NEITHER BOB THRONDSON (NEWS DIRECTOR) OR THE TV NEWS DIRECTOR IS PAYING ATTENTION TO THE PRODUCT. KOMO HAS NOT WON. DON'T QUIT, KIRO. DO NOT QUIT.

----from multiple inside sources and suits at Fisher--

Duffman

I don't believe that for one minute!

Tommy008

don't miss my T008 interview with my 98 YEAR OLD grade school teacher, from MarVista Elementary in Normandy Park, coming up soon on Blatherwatch.....
