So, you are playing the fear card. Following your logic, how do you know the photographer & editors for that paper were rightwing in the first place- (they are probably liberal like a vast majority are). You and your ilk want to shield the real truth because they know that if the truth were known about mainstream Democrat agenda, a majority of American would despise them, including a good number of registered Democrat voters.
Fear you say ? Why are the Dimocrat operatives trying to infiltrate these Tea Parties in the first place ?
Because they are afraid of the rising tide of the opposition. which will waylay their agenda after the elections.
If you want a Value-added Tax, like Europe, then move to France (which will likely be an Islamic Republic in 20-30 years, given the projected change in demographics). The EU countries have a VAT of about 19% - twice the current state sales tax on top of that. Take your VAT and shove it were the sun don't shine !
Value added? I'd love a value added. Kind of regressive, however. We also need tariffs like the Chinese have to retain manufacturing and maintain employed people here.
Not everyone can work for the government like you and me.
ks
if we get rid of the current irs code i am very open to looking at different types of tax systems.
end the loopholes. of course, given the current regime of pelosi et al it will be like Obama Care. they will provide loopholes for the favored to avoid the worst aspects such as allowing the unions to not have to pay the associated higher costs on so called 'cadillac plans.'
Joanie is ignoring some significant facts about the VAT - she just thinks it would be cool to be like France (where she will be moving soon hopefully).
What she is clueless to is that the VAT will emerge like a state income tax would here - a meager amount that would morph into a significantly larger amount to feed growing guvmint entitlement programs and open the door for a welfare/nanny state and increased corruption. This will be on top of increasing taxes that will kick in next year. That is statism in full force.
Tariffs are open for discussion, but it will take more that that, such as lower taxes to retrieve and keep manufacturing here. I'd like a flat tax, something to simplify the tax code and be more efficient at raising revenue.
A state income tax? Now that's a good idea! Especially since I can deduct it from my federal income tax. What's wrong with keeping the money in WA state?

You're dependent upon it. So am I.
Posted by: joanie |
Ph(J)oanie - You may be able to deduct the state income tax from the Federal Tax but it only reduces it a fractional amount. The fact is that Federal + State Income Tax (Oregon) is a bit more than Federal Income Tax + State Sales Tax (WA). Get out of utopia and focus on the real world.
I have a better idea, shrink State Government by not hiring (without cutting positions) for the next say 5 years and the spending will decrease anywhere from 10-20% at the end of 5 years. Apparently you are afraid of being independent and self-sufficiency, which I am not. You not only want dependency, you are advocating co-dependency on Guvmint.
Sorry, puget, but you're wrong. When the income tax was reformed under the direction of Oregon's senator-who was later shamed into retirement, he allowed a state income tax deduction (for Oregon) but denied the sales tax deduction.
It was reinstated two years ago - maybe three. We went several years without a deduction.
As for KS? Please don't hire anyone new but keep me employed, please. That doesn't sound much like self-sufficiency to me.
the sales tax deduction was allowed in 2004 if memory serves. you are correct that we in WA state went a number of years unable to get the federal tax deduction. but i am fairly sure it was 2004 when we got it reenstated.
funny thing about the VAT vs the current system. George Will had a great article about it.
I'll take VAT if they first remove the current system.
Under the current system, "The top 1 percent of earners provide 40 percent of that tax's receipts; the top 5 percent provide 61 percent; the bottom 50 percent provide 3 percent. So the tax makes a substantial majority complacent about government's growth."
As for KS? Please don't hire anyone new but keep me employed, please. That doesn't sound much like self-sufficiency to me.

I am for smaller and more efficient government which is conducive to self-sufficiency, so what are you for ?
Why just state government? Let's cut back on city government too. Way too many engineers. I want much smaller city government because I don't think we need most of the people employed by the city.
