Wow, things seem to be happening in the news department at KIROFM - they've hired two anchors in one week! (We can only dream that Greggg Hersholt might be allowed to sleep in...).
This from radio-Info's Tom Taylor:
Jessica Ettinger Gottesman has plenty of experience in New York-based media and she recently moved to Seattle for family reasons. She’d been free-lancing for Bonneville’s news/talk KIRO-FM (97.3), and now is named the afternoon news anchor. Jessica worked at Bloomberg starting from its early days in radio and broadcasting and has been on-camera for CNN and PBS. She was also "Jessica Wade" on Sirius' "New Country" channel. Her most recent radio work in New York was anchoring for CBS Radio’s all-news “1010 WINS.”
She has a great voice, a law degree from Fordham, and had a cult following in New York for her prerecorded announcements on the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 subway trains.
With all these impressive bonafides, Gottesman, 44, kind of out-classes the homeys.
She's pretty and has a Jewish name, what's not to like?

OK. Now we simply need to replace the two clowns we some serious professionlas.
Suddenly R&D are now the local Nancy Grace in disguise. Nothing original. Just go out there and ambulance chase the latest tragedy and exploit the hell out of it. Who cares how inaccurate you are or how much you interfere with authorities involved in the case? The show is one big farce...including screaming over and over that they're the no.1 show in Seattle ith 250K listeners. I doubt there are 250K people listening to any terrestial radio at that time of day. Podcasts, satellite, Pandora on the iPhone likely get a huge cut of the listeners in the afternoo.

Looks like a class hire. Alongside the kid just out of school from upstate NY, makes the latter even more inexplicable.

Love Jessica. It is a man's world around there and Hersholt is their leader. Maybe the boys have had their way too long. Maybe would-be comedian Josh Kerns is going, or the excitable vanilla-boy, Chris Sullivan. Dan Restione ought to hang it up, too.
Posted by: AP | March 18, 2010 at 09:34 AM
I was wondering about that. Just WHAT does Dan Restione add to that station?
Posted by: Duffman | March 18, 2010 at 09:37 AM
...and did we ever establish whether he went to Harvard or not?
Posted by: Duffman | March 18, 2010 at 09:53 AM
Restione did NOT graduate from Harvard. This can be confirmed on the web.

Restione went to Tufts. He was also the subject of an ABC "Extreme Makeover" a couple of years ago.

Put your $$$ on this: R&D out, Jessica & the Syracuse wundekid in for the new PM news block.
If KIRO is smart they'll take a listen to KOMO from 9 till noon then do what they're doing but better.

I'd actually like to see it with either Linda or Jessica teaming up with Tony Minor for the a.m.
When Tony subs for Gregg Hershold, he doesn't throw out those corny little quips and 'reports' the news the way it should be reported.
Much like Jean Enerson (Ch5 KING, Anchor - even tho I love her), IMO Gregg's time has arrived.
I would actually like to see Luke Burbank team up (Linda or Jessica, which ever one doesn't do the a.m.) in the afternoon's.
THAT would be the only combination I can think of presently that might persuade me to leave Suits and Carlson at KVI.

You guys keep saying R&D are on the way out.
But they must be No. 1 in some demographic for them to brag about being Seattle's No. 1 rated show.
KIRO is not going to get rid of a 'top rated show.' especially with KIRO's overall ratings.
Sounds like wishful thinking to me.

The R&D show is ranked at approxiamtely 22 overall on the PPM system. These blowhards are propigating a lie. They know they're on the way out. Their last day will be 3/31/10.

I love Ron & Don (Don way more than Ron, but as a team I enjoy the dynamic between the two of them.) God bless 'em for what they do and have done to bring the community together time and again for a cause with a noble purpose.

Jessica Gottesman is a broadcast pro with significant major market experience and solid news chops. Nice to see someone with her credentials getting a shot over at that nut hut. She deserves combat pay for putting up with Don.

Put Linda and Jessica together and get rid of all the guys. Most of them are boring. Restione should never be on the air.

Why does Jessica need to talk to us as if she's telling us a secret? She has a strange delivery.
Posted by: DC | March 23, 2010 at 01:08 PM
Sorry. When Jessica blabs she sounds like she's reading to 2nd graders. I cannot stand her silly quips and phoney phoney delivery.
Posted by: Jk | March 24, 2010 at 07:20 AM
Know what you mean. She's a bit over my head too.
Posted by: Duffman | March 24, 2010 at 07:26 AM
Jessica Gottesman's news reading is extremely annoying. Listen close and you can tell what she feels about every stinking story she reads. It's not a news 'delivery'. Silly inflections and sing - song phoney baloney is better suited for old-time radio drama, not serious news reporting. She is really gawd-awful. If it wasn't for Dori, I wouldn't be listening to KIRO at all anymore.

Gottesman is too good for this market.

This chick clearly attended the 'Dr. Laura Schlessinger School of Broadcast Technique'. REALLY? Get a grip, honey. What Jay said - Gawd awful!!

She is SO annoying. I can't stand the way she sarcastically reads the news stories.

I just loved the Obama song Jessica did in an interview for the Bob Rivers show. I would like to find a recording of it. No luck so far. Can anyone help?
Thanks

This hooker is a no go. She has way too much opinion into her readings... eff you jessica.. go back to NYC
Posted by: big balls | December 14, 2010 at 04:20 PM
I think that Jessica is kick-ass in her fill-in duties and as much as I hate to admit it, she meshes well with JC.
Posted by: Mike Barer | December 27, 2010 at 08:53 PM
She really is far too opinionated, as her voice is most always dripping with sarcasm when reading script. Seriously, who asked for your opinion, Jessica?
Posted by: RP | January 20, 2011 at 02:19 PM
Jessica is a awesome person! I listen to her on Sirius XM The Highway: New Country, and just through this and FB we became friends! I would love to meet her some time like I have met some of her SiriusXM co-works! I love her and the friendship! :)
