Regarding your second post:

Yes, it was a judgment. Clearly a manipulative tactic. That's how you operate. Manipulatively and dishonestly. That's a fact.

As for core samples, I don't have to Google. I have read Field Notes from a Catastrophe by Elizabeth Kohlbert. The book got mixed reviews but the science is there. And she was working with researchers in the ARCTIC. They were able to determine that the rate of warming is faster and greater than in previous epochs.

So, your quick generalization about some silly Antarctic whatever is meritless as are most of the posts from you rightwingers who really don't do the work to find the facts and thus render obtuse and incorrect, unsupportable opinions.

You see, you got caught in your own ignorance.

Your last post is nothing more than another rant.

Dr. Bill

"both me and my wife were able to quit our jobs"- radio commercial for workathome/internet.scam .....a recent failed KIRO talkhost thought it would be acceptable to an adult listening audience, over 25, to use like as a meaningless filler, 3- 5 times per sentence .....have we become a nation of dumbed down illitemetes?

Dr. Bill

sorry- illiterates

Use of the conjunction "like" indicates high level of intelligence because it sets up an analogous comparison, the making of which is a hallmark of high IQs.

I aint making this up:

Dr. Bill

Can't access the link- don't need to. The correct use of like as a conjunction may say a dude is mildly bright, but we're talking about the incorrect, asinine usage of the word. When Luke Burbank says something such as "the dude was, like, stupid"..... the word like is not making any analogous comparisons. Stupid is a pefectly good, strong adjective, which needs no help from some illiterate jackass to make it's point. The "like" is being used as an irrelevant, unneeded, and meaningless space filler or atmosphere filler ,if you consider a verbally delivered word filling the air with sound waves. "the dude was stupid like a box of rocks would be the use of " like" in an analogous comparison.....

Puget Sound

"The fact is that showing how a weather trend breaks from the past thousand years is difficult and time consuming when we've only been keeping detailed whether records for a few decades. It's perfectly unserstandable that the data they need simply can't be obtained or processed fast ebnough to satisfy everyone's needs."

That's the problem. You want to go where the science leads you. Don't try to fit the science to the result you want.

When you go past 150 years, you start using secondary sources of information such as core samples/tree rings etc which are best estimates.

If the argument is, lets make a change because we should ie it's the right decision to make irrespective of climate change that is a different argument and one that should raise or fall on its own merit.
Don't (not meaning you directly Andrew) try and scare people with anecdotal arguments like Polar Bears (we actually have more increased the number of wild Polar Bears), predictions of more Hurricanes in the Gulf post Katrina (didn't happen), etc that don't pan out.

There might be a lack of scientific proof of the leaked email doesn't equate to proof of the opposite. That's all I'm sayin.

You say it's stupid to emphasize the declining polar bear population; it's several order dumber to point to snow in FEBRUARY and say that disproves man-made climate change.

If the climate change was so dramatic as to vanquish all occurances of snow below the 50th parallel, all like on Earth would be dead within minutes. You can either be a FOX NEWS moron and deny and giggle, or you can be an honest observer and wait for the facts to come it.

What's funny about this last post: the poster is the one who's been doing the anecdotal stuff. "Core samples" have been brought to this blog several times but we keep ketting "stoopid" from sputs and KS over and over again. Rachel brought macro - see the posts from the above poster. Sparky has brought long-term ideas. So have I - in this very thread.

Why not practice what you preach?

Puget Sound

Saying that the big snow in DC disproves Global Warming is ridiculous. I agree with that. Just like it was ridiculous for RFK Jr to argue in that article 15 months ago that we would have no more snows in DC due to Global Warming.

As to the intelligent postings of Joanie, I sure would like to see them.

He never said DC would have no more snow. You are doing exactly what you decried two posts ago. That's why no one takes you seriously. You exaggerate and fabricate. Simply a fact.

And you wouldn't know intelligent if it bit you in the butt where your brain is located.

I agree with joanie; RFK Jr.'s comments, whatever they might have been, pale in comparrison to the riotous laughter on FOX NEWS.

To say that "because some liberal mutterred something 15 months ago we're justified in acting like ass hats all the time" is pathetic rationalization, and is the kind of thing conservatives have been doing a lot since Obama took office.

You think you're winning ground with this dishonest argumentative trickery, but it doesn't work with swing voters and independants, it only works with the die-hard 1/3rd, who's voting minds have been set in stone since they were four years old. You're preaching to the choir.

Once Greenland is green again (as it once was) & not covered 365 with snow and ice then I will pay attention.
At this point it's just a way for Al Gore to get rich and the nannystate to collect more taxes, nothing more.

That's like saying you won't worry about guns in the hands of criminals until you get shot. You're utterly selfish and obviously not very bright. Your opinion is worthless. I don't know why you bother to share it with anyone. Stick to whatever menial labor it is you do for a living.

Well, bobo (aptly named), that might be sooner than you think:

Greenland Ice Sheet Melting Faster Than Expected; Larger Contributor To Sea-Level Rise Than Thought

Dr. Bill

im at the age now where i have to google some things to assure myself they once existed. a nightmre just occured- i googled Geo. Guy Drugstores and they have been wiped out of history. no reference on any search engine. do any of you codgers remember Geo. Guy drugstores?

Pete Malloy

Yes, I recall that name, I arrested a "duffman" for B&E at a Go Guy Drug store back in the day. He claimed to be a Canadian but was really some draft deferment punk with idle time on his hands.

Dr. Bill

htank god i had the wrong query[ its G. O. Guy. i got a hit on google- the six store locations changed hands a couple of times until Rite Aid owned all of them thank christ im not losing my marbles.............

Puget Sound

hey Pete
I hear you got a 2-11 in progress. better go code. I'll have Reed call for back up.

(if you go to HULU, they got those shows for free)

Jim Reed

You are still lying about that bogus bust, Malloy. You were just pissed off because he was dating your ex-girlfriend and for a change, she was happy.
Leave the Hoser alone.

And at the time he said it, DC had no snow. When he was a kid, there was dependable snow every year. Lots of it. That is no longer true. Trends - remember?

Talk about black and white. You see, you don't even walk your own talk.

If you ever achieve consistency and refrain from authoritative, incoherent and inaccurate sound bites, you might find the intelligent posters on this blog will take you more seriously.

Puget Sound

From the amazing Mark Steyn:

"Climategate U-turn as Scientist at Centre of Row Admits: There Has Been No Global Warming Since 1995

That would be 1995 as in a decade and a half ago? Gee, you wouldn't get that impression from reading the papers.

Here's another first. Dr. Jones is the first IPCC honcho to concede the possibility that the present allegedly roasting planet may not be unprecedented:

He said that the debate over whether the world could have been even warmer than now during the medieval period, when there is evidence of high temperatures in northern countries, was far from settled.

"Far from settled"? But I thought it had all been peer-reviewed up the wazoo . . ."

So much for tree rings and core samples . . . they're now untrustworthy?

As Andrew pointed out, "settled or unsettled" isn't the point. The question is how should we prepare for the possibility that man is contributing to a rapid increase in the warming.. Which an awful lot of scientists - the majority in fact - believe is the case.

You keep arguing the same moot point over and over and over. There must be 13000 pieces of evidence out there on both sides of the issue. Are you planning to post parts of all of them?

Most of us go with the majority of scientists out there. Many of us think it is reasonable to regard man as a contributor to a changing atmosphere and thus weather and climate. And we want to do something about it.

mark steyn needs to learn how to pronounce Obama its Obama not ObAAAma. obnoxious kiwi Rushbot.

Who is mark steyn?

he's an ass, originally from New Zealand, who still has that obnoxious Kiwi accent with the broad, broad A's, like a Boston accent on steroids.
He's best known for substitutung for the fat bastard Rush limbaugh on some of the days he's away from the radio show. He also writes conservative columns in rightwing rags i believe.

So, another right-wing personality that provides these guys entertainment designed to look like information. That's why right-wingers are called "low-information" voters. Just consider your sources. Amazing? Yeah, amazing.

. "Core samples" have been brought to this blog several times but we keep ketting "stoopid" from sputs and KS over and over again."

So they have, but that ship has sailed. The AGW hype debate is as phony as your faux ignorance and phoniness of your personna. Sorry, your side screwed the pooch with the lost data, the climategate emails recovered and other evidence of coverup recover. So, if you ask more about Climategate - use Yahoo search - look it up and give us some facts for a change instead of your pompous emotion. You are a stupid statist if you believe the one world global, cap and trade is the best solution to this hyped up issue courtesy of the enviro-frauds that follow the laundered money. Mark Steyn is as clever as any left wing pundit I have seen and more honest- your loss if you haven't read him.

What Phil Jones really said about global warming

By Yael T. Abouhalkah, Kansas City Star Editorial Page columnist

What did climate scientist Phil Jones say to get the global warming deniers all, well, hot and bothered?

The Daily Mail has a story with this erroneous headline getting a lot of attention: "Climategate U-turn as scientist at centre of row admits: There has been no global warming since 1995."

Uh, no, that's not what he said.

Don't take my word for it -- or the Daily Mail's -- in reporting what Jones has said. He has temporarily stepped down as the director of the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia.

Read the entire interview Jones had recently with the BBC, which was the source for the Daily Mail's story.

Here's the key part of the interview regarding warming in recent years:

Question: "Do you agree that from 1995 to the present there has been no statistically-significant global warming?"

Jones: "Yes, but only just. I also calculated the trend for the period 1995 to 2009. This trend (0.12C per decade) is positive, but not significant at the 95% significance level. The positive trend is quite close to the significance level. Achieving statistical significance in scientific terms is much more likely for longer periods, and much less likely for shorter periods."

In other words, it has gotten warmer, despite what the deniers want to say.

And for good measure, here's another question and answer, verbatim:

"How confident are you that warming has taken place and that humans are mainly responsible?"

Jones: "I'm 100 percent confident that the climate has warmed. As to the second question, I would go along with IPCC Chapter 9 - there's evidence that most of the warming since the 1950s is due to human activity."

Thanks for the whole story, Andrew. Don't you right-wingers ever get tired of being proved ignorant? Just what I said: half-truths, exaggerations and fabrications.

It gets old.

I have to add: don't you think you should stop using Fixed News and right-wing blogs as your only sources? I mean, how many times do we have to embarrass you before you learn?

The climate has warmed since the 1950's. OK, no argument here.

You goofball leftists as you keep trying to do- this issue should not be politicized or it will reek real havoc. Common sense mitigation is required. Bipartisanship is needed - which will be difficult until common ground for solutions, not causes are obtained.

It's never been more obvious that these people are simply bent on promoting their bat shit crazy idea at any cost, at the risk of humiliating themselves, this idea that we don't have to give a shit about Earth, that we don't have to give a shit about anything EXCEPT LOWERING TAXES.

Their motivation is obvious; it's easier to deny deny deny than admit that we have to make somer serious changes in how we live our lives and how we see the world. They're just not ready. They're emotional and child-minded. They've aged, but they have not become adults. They see life as a long, blurry dream before they get to rise to Heaven and be with Jesus. In short, their heads are stuck up their asses. At least half of our population is willing to act like responsible adults.

You can't tell me this denial is about the science or economic reality, this constant misquoting, sloppy conjecture and distortion of fact points to one motive: naked self interest.

And KS, no one has tried bipartisanship more than Obama. So much so that he's losing his base. Would Bush have done that?

Start thinking for a change.

Paul Johnson

Well put. So what say you Joanie? An emergency exists? Please state what that is? Today was a very clear clean day in Seattle. We don't need more government restrictions. Less government, more freedom!! Peace

How is it the republicans gained the name "the party of no" - can you tell me?

Today was a very clear clean day in Seattle.

What's the point? I think you haven't read the thread.

I don't necessarily believe that global warming is occurring at a fast enough rate that we need to be greatly concerned with it, but common sense tells me that you can't pump millions of tons of greenhouse gases into the sky and not expect something to change for the worse. All life on Earth evolved over the course of millions of years in clean, natural, pre-industrial conditions. Whatever you might say about the post-industrial climate, you have to admit that it's not the habitat in which life evolved. A few degrees of temperature shift can rapidly kill many species of marine life, and in turn cause land based animals to deminish in numbers, and on and on it goes. The entire food chain is interconnected.

Life adapts, but not necessarily as fast enough to keep up with sudden human influence. As intelligent creatures, it's our job to consider how our decisions impact nature. Sorry, bees and polar bears aint gonna do it for us, because they can't think... can conservatives?

If conservatives are now as dumb and helpess as animals they're all too happy to kill, then I vote we declare conservatives fair game during hunting season.

When did you become so eloquent, Andrew? That was wonderful.

Also, it isn't just climate change. It is all the toxic waste we putting into oceans as well. The cumulative effect of our influence is what makes it all an emergency. Killing our oceans will do us in faster than climate in my opinion.

Granted, my opinion based on a fair amount of reading.

"And KS, no one has tried bipartisanship more than Obama. So much so that he's losing his base."

ROFLMAO - this guy's an ideologue - Clinton was the bipartisan guy - Won't you ever learn ? He is losing his base because the Democratics have become statists and do not care about bipartisanship - Obamy has shown little or no leadership, which is why he is losing his base, and has put his agenda in the hands of Congress along with the goals of his ideological agenda and commissioned Congress to pass his agenda. Problem is, a plurality -majority of the public is against it and the elections are looming closer and closer- their careers are at risk.

Plus this country, thanks in large to Obamy's agenda is teetering on the edge of insolvency - thanks the big government spending solutions a problem before and a considerably bigger problem now. The party of no as the left wing ideologues want to call them seems like they are saying NO MAS - enough finanicial irresponsibility is enough, but don't expect you to be able to comprehend this common sense - you'd rather drink arsenic first.

There should be no tax cuts unless there are accompanying spending cuts. I support a balanced budget amendment. So your problem is ?

Try smaller government - a blasphemus idea to today's Democratic Party, incrementally downsizing - it can be done for the good of the people, but it needs to be done responibly.. The end result - if this is tried would be that more people will trust government.

So because the Republicans say no to everything including things they supported just a few months ago ( after Obama said he supported it too)--that mean's he is an ideologue? uh right.

The majority of the public wants single-payer health care.

I don't know which right-wing entertainer put these thoughts into your head, but you are supremely ignorant. And there's no making sense with you.

You want to try, Andrew? You're on a roll today.

I will try one more: why not let the tax cuts for the uber wealthy (Bush's base) expire? Or is it just the middle class you hate?

Gosh, you got me thinking: where would you cut? the military? education? or entitlements: medicare, social security, etc? I'd like some specifics.

All of those things we spend tax payer money on were deemed important at one time or another, and as far as I know, they still are.. so what important programs should we cut?

Once again, just as with climate change, the conservatives aren't driven by the facts, they're driven by their ideology, and their ideology says CUT TAXES. They want tax cuts when times are good. They want tax cuts when times are bad.

The unemployment rate is very high right now, caused by a chain of events that predates Obama by several years. That means many parents are unemployed or under-employed. Now is when we need social programs the most, to make sure kids are getting a decent meal for lunch and dinner. Unemployment compensation is a social program specifically designed for tough times such as these AND EVERYONE LOVES IT. It's times like these that we need to help eachother MORE, not less.

But conservatives don't care about these nuances, they allllwaaays want one thing no matter what. Even if meteors were raining down on the earth and burning cities to the ground they'd say "WE NEED TO CUT TAXES"

I really don't get their simplistic love of business. I'm a businessman. The free market is great for many things including what I do, but it's not good for everything. As a businessman my first goal is make money. I only keep customers happy so that hopefully they will give me more money. That model doesn't work in something like healthcare, because if I actually heal them then they will be well and I will no longer get their money. It would behoove me to keep them sick and in good spirits. Do you expect me to heal people because I'm a nice guy? Because I took some silly hippocratic oath? That would be extremely gullible. There are tons of statistics showing that doctors recommend unnecessary surgeries to make a quick buck, everything from c-sections to coronary bypasses.

You're suckers.

Umm, KS, you still googling trying to figure out what you can cut? I'm waiting...
