About 35 noisy Mount Vernonites gathered on Glenn Beck's hometown main street, and carried signs that read: "Give Glenn Beck the finger not the key!"
Norris told reporters 2 weeks ago he was trying to give hometown boy Beck the keys to the city and declare Glenn Beck Night on Saturday September 26 after he keynotes at the far-right Evergreen Freedom Foundation at Seattle's Safeco Field.
According to the Skagit Valley Herald, Norris offered tickets to council members over the weekend and said that he was "99% sure" the event will happen at 7:30p September at MV's McIntyre Hall.
Most of the council members, however, are running for cover. Five of the seven say they won't attend.
The protesters, turned out by local Young Democrats, are demanding that Norris get City Council approval before giving the key to the city. (One demonstrator suggested that the city should, instead, "Change the lock")
Norris said Beck's people" wanted "to control the media activity" around the event. Sounds like this welcoming "community event" will be a made-for-teevee by invitation only to the friendlies.
"I believe this is a private Bud Norris event, and if the city of Mount Vernon is going to be in the news, it should be as much as possible about positive things," said Councilman Dale Ragan.
Tuesday, Norris couldn't be reached for comment, even by the city's paper of record. There was crazy talk around The Valley that Norris was hiking the Appalachian Trail or flying off to South America for a "meeting," but none of that's been confirmed.

The mayor’s administrative assistant, Kerri Grechischkin, did say that city funds would not be spent on Beck’s appearance, which she said was not confirmed.
They do the citizens and media differently in Mount Vernon than in other towns -- SUCH AS ACCOUNTABLEVILLE! Seems when there's a touchy issue, and the mayor's iffy, wrong, or just embarrassed, they cut the phone lines at City Hall. Makes it easier, apparently than having to face those angry voices and answer those inconvenient questions.
Norris told us Friday to call back for an announcement at 2p Monday. Since then, however, calls to the City Hall main line and the mayor direct have been met with a decisive... click- no voice mail, no recorded message, no flack- just click. Stay tuned/\.
Glenn Beck is the most popular talk show host on television and one of the highest rated talkers on radio. Beck is a hometown boy who achieved superstardon. No organized pressure group of protesters can change that reality. Four million viewers per day have elevated Beck into a super wealthy & beloved American icon. He scares the dogshit out of the left wing media.

Rumor has it that FOX is going to put Beck on at 6:30 PM on the broadcast network (Q13) against the national nooz programs on the alphabet channels.
Now that would be interesting.
Posted by: chucks | September 01, 2009 at 04:08 PM
And compete with Sean Hannity? Now that would be really interesting. They're liable to fuck up both of their big cable stars. Fox is pop-culture, celeb-tab and tits & ass reality. Can't imagine them screwing up their mainstream entertainment brand with Beck. Most people react to him as a freak. Most people don't care about politics, especially screaming, wackjy politics. Successful in that old white male niche, very true, but Beck ain't primetime.
Posted by: crank | September 01, 2009 at 05:11 PM
Replace Family Guy with Glen or Glenda? That won't go over well.

Ladies and Gentleman, Mr Conway Twitty.

Amazing and interesting sometimes how jealousy presents itself. I don't particularly care for Beck but apparently many do. Could it be that he, like O'Reily, Monson, etc., et al is an entertainer who can garner the attention of many. Is it that liberal-progressive talk show hosts just don't have entertainment quality. Hmmmm.
Posted by: Duffman | September 01, 2009 at 06:14 PM
Why does Beck skyrocket in popularity while liberal talkers like Olbermann, Maddow, and Ed Schultz plunge down the ratings toilet bowl? Beck understands the simple concept that escapes the progressives: Broadcasting Is An Entertainment Medium.
The audience only responds to definitive opinions expressed with passion, conviction, intensity and panache. Capiche?
Posted by: mrogi | September 01, 2009 at 06:38 PM
Panache? Glenn Beck is unstable. People like him because they don't know what he''l say next. Good TV, but public policy?
Wouldn't you rather rather leave that to someone like Jay Leno who has a clear head on his shoulders
Posted by: Bratio | September 01, 2009 at 06:52 PM
Progressives aren't really entertained by watching and listening to the slow, painful decline of a neo-con falling victim to his own debilitating dementia. A lot of Beck's "popularity" comes from his crocodile tears act, which draws the curious- if the recession forces Hollywood to make more B-movies, maybe Glennis can get some part-time work there, too.
Posted by: Drew | September 01, 2009 at 07:08 PM
How ironic is it that a politico would try to get publicity from a bug eyed crazy that gets publicity by espousing vitriolic speech? Note to Bud, use a positive figure.
It’s going to be hell trying to suck this turd back in.
Posted by: Grand Oligarh | September 01, 2009 at 07:08 PM
I tell ya, Drew..go check out Glen or Glenda on YouTube. The movie is dying for a remake, with Mr. Beck in the title role.

I guess this shows ya’. It may be fun to play wit the fire, you may get da ooos an ahhhhs from the slobbering mob. But as Tom Ridge is living proof. Walkin back this shit is harder than layin’ it down.

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -- The mayor of Mount Vernon has made it official. Mayor Bud Norris says he will give the key to his city to conservative talk show host Glenn Beck on September 26.
Norris says Beck will deliver a short talk that night and become the first person to receive a key to the city in the six years Norris has been mayor.
Protesters from the Skagit County Young Democrats walked outside city hall Tuesday with protest signs, one reading "Change the locks!"
They called it "totally inappropriate" to give a man who labeled President Barack Obama a "racist" a key to the city.
Norris told KOMO News the key does not represent city approval of every comment that Beck may make, but recognizes a local boy who made it big.
Norris says he knew Beck when the talk show host was just 12 years old. He said he remembers the tyke carrying a sandwich board saying "Vote for Norris for county commissioner" up and down Mount Vernon's First Street.
He said he and Beck's parents were friends, but said this is not a political payback for campaigning decades ago. He said this is merely a recognition of someone who is from Mount Vernon.
Posted by: KS | September 01, 2009 at 10:20 PM
Mount Vernon sounds like a great place to raise a family under King Bud the Suck-up. Limiting media access? Avoiding phone calls? Like Beck, Norris doesn't believe in or want a democracy where differing opinions are considered.

Bryan Johnson, didn't he take over for Bon Scott in AC/DC?
Posted by: Coiler | September 01, 2009 at 11:30 PM
Yes, Johnson replaced Bon Scott on vocals, who died in '79 right after they produced Highway to Hell (an unknowing tribute to the distruction of America by the Bush crime family).

Dave Ross labored in obscurity his entire broadcasting career despite his Ivy League education. Homegrown Glenn Beck enjoys a thousand times me fame, acclaim and wealthy than Ross. There is no substitute for talent.
Posted by: mrogi | September 02, 2009 at 01:46 AM
Yes, like the talent required to cry on command, Beck's most profitable skill.
Posted by: Drew | September 02, 2009 at 02:47 AM
Well, while Mayor Norris is spending his time on frivolous issues like this we can be thankful that Democrats in Connecticut are Hard At Work.
Posted by: Duffman | September 02, 2009 at 05:42 AM
Looking closer at that article than you did evidently, one finds 1)no legislators from Washington State, or Glenda "I just can't stop crying" Beck, or political locksmith Bud Norris. You had to travel all the way to CT to find people goofing off at work?
Posted by: Drew | September 02, 2009 at 06:09 AM
I'm sorry you're just not important enough to me (& likely to any one else) to even consider a response.
[You should really try to get more sleep]
Posted by: Duffman | September 02, 2009 at 06:16 AM
Umm, you actually did respond. Granted, it was with all the depth of a teaspoon, but we appreciate any effort you can come up with, what with all your struggles.
Posted by: Drew | September 02, 2009 at 06:44 AM
...and what exactly did that last post have to do with the topic. Either stay on topic or refrain from posting.
Posted by: Duffman | September 02, 2009 at 06:53 AM
Aye, go steady there...almost reached tablespoon depth on that one.
Posted by: Drew | September 02, 2009 at 07:23 AM
Hmmm, do you suppose Gov mark Sanford has anything to worry about with Mayor Norris possibly being in Argentina. [smile]
Posted by: Duffman | September 02, 2009 at 07:46 AM
"There is no substitute for talent." Beck is the poster child of exception to this rule. Rather, there is no substitute for being at the right place at the right time and being willing to sell your soul and say anything
it takes to people
Posted by: Lucas Foxx | September 02, 2009 at 10:14 AM
....with influence.
Don't know how I got cut off.
Posted by: Lucas Foxx | September 02, 2009 at 10:15 AM
Olbermann was hilarious in his attack on Beck. He explained Beck's massive appeal by dismissing Beck viewers as a bunch of imbeciles. Olbermann is the real arrogant imbecile. Labeling 4 million TV viewers as a bunch of imbeciles is hardly the best way to attract their viewership. No wonder Olbermann's ratings continue to suck.
Posted by: mrogi | September 02, 2009 at 01:14 PM
While 'bathtub boy' sits alone with his rubber-ducky, his competitors bury him. He can't seem to come up with a winning formula. One then asks, does he have ANY talent for what he's attempting on that show?
I'm thinking the answer is NO...and he'd be better off in sports.
Posted by: Duffman | September 02, 2009 at 01:24 PM
I agree, but do you think he would be as good in sports as he did as a DJ? He's better off crying to the imbeciles, they like that shtick.
Posted by: neogeo | September 02, 2009 at 08:19 PM
Good one, Duffman. You wrote the most accurate assessment of Olbermann I've ever read.

Posted by: dave ramsey | September 02, 2009 at 08:55 PM
Don't care if Beck gets the key to the City of Mt Vernon, but I WOULD VOTE for Dori Monson getting the key to Ballard.
Posted by: Duffman | September 03, 2009 at 01:10 PM
BECK: I'm tired of being a sheep. I'm tired of being a victim. I'm tired of being pushed around. You know what? The gloves come off.
Full tilt EMO...
Don't cry beck, please.

Great news, no one dumped Beck today… as far as I know. Praise the gods of propaganda; their disciple “Beck the indolent” has more time to pollute the minds of the feeble.
Posted by: Grand Oligarh | September 03, 2009 at 07:10 PM
Beck is a democrat. He puts on this show to make Conservatives look bad. We need to take heed and disown this ass clown so we can move on.
Posted by: Real Conservative | September 03, 2009 at 08:43 PM
Like a car wreck or a carnival freak show, the dreck that is Beck will not be ignored by the simple-minded, those who will Believe Anything, as long as it comes from an animated Talking Head on TeeVee. Beck (the audience-grabbing "entertainer") is little more than a well-oiled attention hog who knows full well that the more outlandish his pronouncements, the more the curious will drop by to gaze upon the smoking pile of dung. Curious point: both right-wingy talk radio and Fox "News" are burdened with an irrifutible fact -- an aging audience. It's commonly known that both mediums are viewed by an overwhelmingly older crowd (55-years-plus) so as the tiring geezers tune in to agree with Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly, Limbaugh and the rest, to grumble and complain that "Amer-ca ain't the same as it was in my day," the rest of the country is simply going on about its business. 3 million cable-watching seniors isn't impressive to advertisers (check the commercials for the above line-up; Gold sold by scare tactics, buzzers for Grandma writhing on the floor after falling and recycled no-name Gospel stylings, etc.) Mount Vernon mayor Bud Norris is apparently clueless regarding the despictable ramblings of the grotesque caricature that is Glenn Beck. Here's hoping a massive protest on September 26 wakes up his uninformed, sleepy Senior ass.

Anybody think he might be mimicking Howard Beale?
That thought occurred to me today. Worth a million dollars to him and his Fixed News cronies.
He's not going anywhere. Mrogi's got one thing right: it is all about the money, honey.
Oh, and chucks eats it up. Every idiotic bite.

The rest of the story:
Wasn't it Van Jones, heading up the ColorforChange coalition that was heading up the campaign to get as many sponsors as possible to drop Glenn Beck, because of the alleged remarks he made about Obama ? Yes, as a matter of fact it was.
Now, Beck has exposed who Van Jones, the Green Jobs czar is over the last few weeks and it appears to have caught the public's attention. Call it revenge, but it is good that someone shined some light on the darkness of the inner circle of this White House. It's probably only a matter of time before he gets relieved of his czar-hood with his negative PR that has been generated from YouTube and other authentic Internet sources on Beck's show, without sponsors which has drawn more viewers than before. Just sayin'
"This is a party of the future with Hermann Gobbels as no.1 deity. Why would you attempt to destroy the fabric of the country with lies.inunendo &smears"
Oh, you must mean the political party with Van Jones, Mark Lloyd, Cass Sunstein, Nancy Pelosi or Robert Gibbs, - take your pick . FYI - That is not the GOP.

Here is a bombshell...
WASHINGTON — The White House says President Barack Obama's adviser Van Jones is resigning amid controversy over past inflammatory statements.
Van Jones, an administration official specializing in environmentally friendly "green jobs," is linked to efforts suggesting a governmental role in the 2001 terror attacks and to derogatory comments about Republicans.
Jones issued an apology on Thursday. When asked the next day whether Obama still had confidence in him, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said only that Jones "continues to work in the administration."
The White House issued a statement early Sunday saying Jones had quit the administration.
Thanks mostly to Glenn Beck, the truth has come out and a czar has bit the dust...

"On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a VICIOUS SMEAR campaign against me..."
