Obama got $18 million. What a rip-off. Maybe they'll spend it more wisely next election.

But this is interesting...

"Just ask yourself what your car insurance would cost if everyone demanded it as a government-guaranteed "right." Imagine car repair shops having to go through a 10-year approval process -- as pharmaceutical companies must -- before offering a service that the government will then provide to millions of people as a "right." Then ask what the response would be if some people broke with the consensus and said that car repairs were a service to be paid for. They would be shouted down as immoral -- while people demanded that their insurance pay for oil changes and ripped seats."

Olby must not have seen these videos of Neo-Coms holding townhall meetings while in recess. The people seem to not want what Olby says they do.

Witnesses said that when Rep. Doggett was asked whether he would support the plan even if he found that his constituents opposed it, Doggett said he would. People then began chanting “just say no” and overwhelmed the congressman as he moved through the crowd and into the parking lot.

Check out Rep. Ellison fail to answer a direct question
New Neo-Com getting an earful.

populist extraordinaire

"Neo-COM?" New term for me. "Astroturfing" is a term that's been around awhile. Another good old phrase comes to mind: You have to spend money to make money. Big pharma is paying a bundle to astroturf these gatherings. Good for Keith calling out both Democrats and Republicans on this.

This morning, Politico reported that Democratic members of Congress are increasingly being harassed by “angry, sign-carrying mobs and disruptive behavior” at local town halls. For example, in one incident, right-wing protesters surrounded Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY) and forced police officers to have to escort him to his car for safety.

"This growing phenomenon is often marked by violence and absurdity. Recently, right-wing demonstrators hung Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD) in effigy outside of his office. Missing from the reporting of these stories is the fact that much of these protests are coordinated by public relations firms and lobbyists who have a stake in opposing President Obama’s reforms."

The lobbyist-run groups Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks, which orchestrated the anti-Obama tea parties earlier this year, are now pursuing an aggressive strategy to create an image of mass public opposition to health care and clean energy reform. A leaked memo from Bob MacGuffie, a volunteer with the FreedomWorks website Tea Party Patriots, details how members should be infiltrating town halls and harassing Democratic members of Congress:

Tea Bagger Memo

– Artificially Inflate Your Numbers: “Spread out in the hall and try to be in the front half. The objective is to put the Rep on the defensive with your questions and follow-up. The Rep should be made to feel that a majority, and if not, a significant portion of at least the audience, opposes the socialist agenda of Washington.”

– Be Disruptive Early And Often: “You need to rock-the-boat early in the Rep’s presentation, Watch for an opportunity to yell out and challenge the Rep’s statements early.”

– Try To “Rattle Him,” Not Have An Intelligent Debate: “The goal is to rattle him, get him off his prepared script and agenda. If he says something outrageous, stand up and shout out and sit right back down. Look for these opportunities before he even takes questions.”

The memo above also resembles the talking points being distributed by FreedomWorks for pushing an anti-health reform assault all summer. Patients United, a front group maintained by Americans for Prosperity, is currently busing people all over the country for more protests against Democratic members. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the NRCC, has endorsed the strategy, telling the Politico the days of civil town halls are now “over.”

Meanwhile, AHIP, the trade group and lobbying juggernaut representing the health insurance industry is sending staffers to monitor town halls and other right-wing front groups are stepping up their ad campaign to smear reform efforts. The strategy for defeating reform — recently outlined by an influential lobbyist to the Hill newspaper as “delay” then “kill” — is becoming apparent. By delaying a vote until after the August recess, lobbyists are now seizing upon recess town halls as opportunities to ambush lawmakers and fool them into believing there is wide opposition to reform.

Thom Hartmann is talkng about how to handle the teabaggers, today

Dipped a few myself

Seeing those old freeks with the hand-lettered signs pasted to their foreheads screaming at those meetings, you wouldn't want to even think about them tea-bagging anyone.

Why don't you just provide a link?

Today is our president's 48th birthday, a national day of mourning for the birthers/teabaggers.

Mrs & Mr Clinton: what an incredible team for this Nation!

I will when Putsie does, Duffman.

Per CNN:
'-- North Korean President Kim Jong Il has pardoned two U.S. journalists, state-run news agency KCNA said Tuesday.'

God Bless You, Mr Clinton!

so dreamy! wooOOOOOOOooo!

Ha, Okay w/me sparky. Bold outright pasting of a post like that (when it c/be linked) portends of someone purposly playing their car radio real loud, assuming that everyone around them wants to hear it. (smile)

Is it just me or has Olberman turned into a bit of a blowhard? I've always liked him but have been having an increasingly difficult time watching him lately.

'...a bit of a blowhard?'

I nominate for the biggest understatement of the year award!

Blowhard might be a bit rough.....but, you gotta love Ben Affleck's send up of Keith from SNL! Better than the original.

Yes, the Clinton visit is another blow to republicans

...and moreover a needed boost for Americans!

Duff, she just wants you to think Political just reprted that today. To make it look like shes up to date in the politics of this country. The fact though, is it was on another Neo-Com website, ThinkProgress 4 days ago. Typical neo-com fear mongering.

And how does Sparky criticize that when Obama was doing the samething to recruit her for his campaign. Remember this...

“I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face,”

“And if they tell you that, ‘Well, we’re not sure where he stands on guns.’ I want you to say, ‘He believes in the Second Amendment.’ If they tell you, ‘Well, he’s going to raise your taxes,’ you say, ‘No, he’s not, he’s going lower them.’ You are my ambassadors. You guys are the ones who can make the case.”

That was Obama last year in Elko.

So steven, what do you think about the pre=planned fake outrage at those meetings. ThinkProgress reported it, yes...they reported that they saw it on Politico.

Why do you have to talk to me through Duffman?

First off Sparky, the outrage looked genuine. Second, why do you believe that memo is any more real than say, Dan Rathers Bush National Guard memo? And third, why did you try to pass that story off as if was todays news?

I got it in an email, passed it on, and it said "today". Score one for Steven. Bur why is it important when it was posted? Those corporations have the instructions on their websites. Senator Boner believes them. He gave his blessing and encouragement.
Do you think he was lying?

What makes you think that our outrage is fake sparky? Some of us are getting a little pissy about $10 trillion dollars in debt for our kids to pay.
Tax revenue is down 18% but spending is skyrocketing.

Massive govt spending got us out of the Hoover depression chuck's, don't be a quitter. Be an american. Mow your neighbor's lawn, buy US savings bonds to kill white separatists in the south. We must not fail.

Why Sparky, because I dont think you even bothered to read it. You just copied and pasted with no knowledge of what it said. I still dont think you have yet to read it.

Now I see no mention of Rep. Boehner in that post you pasted so I am not sure if he is lying or not. Having said that, do you think Rep Boehner is lying in this report...

Rep. Boehner & Gov. Pawlenty Release Report Showing Washington Takeover of Health Care Will Hurt States

Sparky, why did you answer Chucks question he posed on this thread on the other thread and ignored my question. Are you trying to hide from it? Was I right?

Nevermind, I think we all know, even your neo-coms buddies here on the BW, that you never read it before posting it.

This thread is too long, the other thread was still about health care.

yes I think Boner was lying. His lips were moving.

jeez, and I will when joanie does...

sounding a bit churlish, Sparky C.

It was a joke, Putsie. Lighten up, will ya?

Puget Sound

as was mine, Sparky C., as was mine.

speaking of not so funny, did you catch Malloy saying that Pat Buchanan wants every jew to hang. Where is the evidence for that? It seems to be on its face untrue.
i'm not a malloy faithful -but i know 'coils' likes him- so maybe we could get an answer as to malloy's basis.

But if it is true then why does MSNBC like a Olberman/Maddow/Matthews give Pat Buchanan all that air time.

I assume it is to let the other side have a say...but every time Pat opens his mouth, it is cringe-worthy. A lot of us wish they would pick someone else.
Steven gets confused with euphemisms, but Malloy was using radio host hyperbole (wanting Jews to hang) referring to a general theme of Pat's...his world is that of White Christian Males in Power. Thus Rachel's comment about him being stuck in the 50s. Change is hard for Pat, and men (and women) like him.

What a crock of #$%^ Sparky.

I know, always a dollar short and often way more than a day late.

This is waaaaay too long, Keith. I've said since the first day I watched you, you should learn to edit.

Do one a day. More effective anyway.

Oh, and to Steven who continues that ridiculous ass-backwards thinking: of course, these people at the town hall meetings are in earnest. Just as you are. "Earnest" does not preclude "ignorant" nor "propagandized." Wendell Potter clearly warned that the corporations pay huge money to companies to swift-boat issues and people they don't like. He laid it out. You should listen to him.

I think you asked Sparky earlier about the "death panels" which could easily be called "Good-Death Panels" if the right were telling the truth. And Steven, you could get the truth at several websites including government ones.
