If Poppy Bush had had his orchids ectomied, it would have saved the world a heap o' trouble.

That was EPIC!!!!

Great piece Hood.

Mr. Hood, you've done it again! I'm glad you've brought this to light- everyone knows that our healthcare industries have sought to provide for our needs first, ofttimes forsaking their own private islands and executive jets, just to insure that we'd always have forms to fill out, and a long list of phone numbers to call and wait for a sympathetic listener on the other end to send us more paper. And to keep us from getting lazy, they stand ready to double, triple, or quintuple our rates without notice, so we will never forget how important our second full-time job is. And whether our kid has an ear infection needing expensive anitbiotics, or a broken bone that needs surgery, we know that our selfless insurers will be there when we really need them, to say "no", because they understand that America wasn't built by fancy medications or the latest treatment modalities. No sir, it was built by strong men and women who didn't know that one day those things might become available, and for the time being, they'd just have to suffer and even die waiting. Our insurance comapanies know that's the America we need to return to, and they are more than willing to make a ridiculous profit while helping us get there.

"Editors sideline as dentists, putting to use the innate myopia and cruelty that drew them to their chosen line of work."

Sounds like that comes from some perhaps bitter experience, Michael

And what is the matter with a bit of self deprecating humor?

“Sounds like that comes from some perhaps bitter experience”

Lack of humor is a sure sign of a bitter experience.

Mark C.

Not a criticism, all writers have bitter experience with editors, take it from me.

4 thumbs up!!!!!!!!!

Gee, I thought we already had rationing in healthcare. Instead of government bureaucrats, you have insurance accountants and gatekeepers to tell you what you need. Rationing is determined by the type of insurance, clauses in coverage and of course the deity of a free capitalist society….the almighty dollar (not almighty anymore)! Conservatives are bigger fools than they present themselves to be in trying to convince the masses that healthcare or any commodity in a market-based economy is not rationed. It is rationed…if you have the money to afford it, then you have it, if you do not, then tough shit! Like kids with new toys after Christmas and showing off to neighbor kids (first signs of learning how to be competitive)and refusing to share, conservatives are basically telling those who fall through the cracks…Hey I’ve got mine so go fuck yourself!

I tried for 6 weeks to get a specialist to call me back, and when they did, I had to argue with the receptionist to get an appointment, eventually needing my primary care doc to have to call them to intervene. So they gave me the first available appointment--October. And I have excellent insurance.
Doctors are not becoming GPs anymore because of the hassles with the insurance agencies, both in the amount of paperwork and the meager amounts of money they get back after billing for their services. This is what we are being told is the best health care in the world. Yes, we have the technology and the minds to perform medical miracles in this country. But what good is it, if the insurance companies tell the doctors NO, they refuse to pay for it because it's "experimental?"
Drew is on his way to England today. While there, he is going to be asking around about how satisfied people are with their health care, and will be reporting back.

Better this October than next October Sparky.
