The sad legacy of George W. Bush. How this country elected him twice, will never cease to amaze me.

puget sound

Can we also add the number of injured to that heavy toll paid by the very best of this nation.

For those that serve and have served thank you for keeping us safe.

Because of their acts of courage, the number of attacks on America since 9/11 is a total of ZERO.

HoChiMinh

Viet Nam: nearly 59,000 Americans killed and literally millions others killed. Lest we forget who was responsible.

Upton

Why not have a stat for the number of deaths since Obama took over?

He not only appears to be dragging his feet in removing troops from Iraq but his shift of emphasis doesn't seem to make much sense either.

I mean, is Afghanistan really a war of necessity?

chucks

I just stepped out to my back yard to drain the puppy's. Looking to the southwest, I can see Ft Lewis. Looking to the west, I see McChord AFB.
Just had a thought about all of those soldiers and airmen and that so many of the are prepared to be and that some of them will be honored on this day, next year.
It is humbling to say the least.

KS

"Why not have a stat for the number of deaths since Obama took over?

However, the drive-by media is not honest enough to do this unless they are prodded and surrounded by the truth, which they will have tried to remain impervious from as long as possible. Afghanistan is now Obama's war. Iraq is Bush's war and will always be that.

God Bless those who laid down their lives to preserve (liberal progressives take note) liberty and freedom in this country.

As for equality and social justice - Marxist virtues, that dog don't hunt here..

"Since Obama Inauguration (1/20/09): 72"

I believe that number is included if you actually read the post. Also the wounded-

American Wounded
Official 31285 Estimated Over 100000

Obam is severely restricted in his optopon to wage the Afghan War, be ready to respond to other conflicts as in Pakistan and Iran because of the optional, war in Iraq. It's is perhaps one of the biggest blunders in American history, and that's aside from the dishonesty of it.

The fighting boys and girls are still stretched beyond limits, violence is rebooting, the GI suicide rate numbers just released are shameful, it is still the painfully expensive mess that it always was. Cheney can rationalize and fearmonger all he wants, but the decision to invade, and occupy; the deceitful lobbying that sold this war will be a mark of American ignominy forever.

The brave men & women of the armed forces (and their families) are heroes and the first line victims of political skullduggery of hisotircal proportions.

I am sad today.

Turner

Is that a KKK robe made from Old Glory, you lib traitor?

How Dare You?

I pray this country can survive you and your slick, jive-talkin', socialist, appeasing president.

HoChiMinh

'...the deceitful lobbying that sold this war will be a mark of American ignominy forever.'

And what about that of the Viet Nam war? Easy to forget isn't it (since wrong party was in charge).

sparky

KKK? They have pointed hoods, nimrod.

It is a metaphore for Death for one's country. Look closer and you will see the original flag of the 13 colonies, the war of necessity that was referred to in the title.

As far as your fake-outrage snit..I give it a 3.

Coiler

Yes, you know the old saying about patriotism being the last refuge of a scoundrel.

sparky

VG, DuffHo...I have lost track of the number of times here people have said how much they loved the Viet Nam War.

KS

Battle deaths Since Obama Inauguration (1/20/09): 72
--There is a running tally, I stand corrected.

Turner has just as much right to say as anyone else and I will defend his right to say it.

"As far as your fake-outrage snit..I give it a 3."

Fake outrage ? I don't think so. Sounds pretty authentic to me. Take off the blinders if your pride allows you - they are impairing your vision, Sparky. Above all, let's not lose track of the significance of this day.

Sarge

Vietnam has been over since 1975. Ho-Duff. We've re-fought it a thousand times. 2008 was the first presidential election it wasn't dragged into the campaign. We've got 2 wars on now, that's enough to think about.

sparky

No blinders here KS. I know exactly what this day is for--my dad fought in World War II so save your lectures for Turner. I will believe your vow to defend the right for people to speak on here when you extend it to the people with whom you disagree.

HoChiMinh

Does it really matter how long ago a war was waged because of lies, half-truths and manipulation of the American public. I think not, principal is the same. Get over it; you f'd up way bigger-time than Bush and you know it. Do numbers and treatmen of the American military mean ANYthing to you who would dismiss VN out of hand because it was long ago.

sparky

Shame on you, Coiler, for f'ing up the Viet Nam War. That's the last time we let you be a roadie for the garage band.

HoChiMinh

All of you with apparent duff'itis may joke about it but the biggest mistake with American (as well as other) lives happened under your watch. History is your worst nightmare, live with it and know that nothing's been as bad as that fiasco.

HoChiMinh

Now, get outside and get some Vitamin D and try to do something to make yourself useful. You're wasting away.

Coiler

I don't think Duff/Ho' Duff'itis is covered by the VA?

HoChiMinh

You should really try to get a hold of your infatuation with duffman. Do try to make yourself USEful. Hehe

saintrudy

The G.O.P.(gay old perverts) should change their mascot from the elephant to the ostrich, head in sand, ass in the air. All hail cheney and windbag.

Sarge

You know when you think about it, that damn Civil War was bullshit too. It was not about slavery. And hey the Korean War was dreamed up by Joe McCarthy and the capitalists. Oh yeah the Golf War was a move made by Titleist, Nike and ABC Sports to sell clubs, balls, shoes and generate ad revs. There's a lot of history to go over here helping DuffHo change the subject from the war at hand. If I know Duff, he probably doesn't have any depth on Vietnam either. He is an insect laying his sterile eggs on the skins of issues.

Coiler

Spot on, sarge!

Turner

Thanks KS. the Consitution doesn't mean much to these liberals. Let us face facts. As Rush says, Obama is a black man elected because he is black. Period. He was elected by the media and the unions and too bad for us, it was maybe 20 years before a black man was ready. You stuff a street kid like him with a Harvard degree and he thinks he can do anything. The rest of us had to pay our dues and build this country from the ground up. Not waltse in and take over to make radical changes to our life. You have to have patience to enjoy the fruits of our America.
I live in Vegas and our Governeor said "f*you" to Obama today. The rest of America will do the same. It is a matter of time.

Coiler

Do you let a fat, racist man like Pills Limbaugh do the thinking for you?

sparky

I thought the saying was "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."

I didn't say you couldn't post, Turner. I just called it for the bullshit that it was. You are free to do the same.

KS

"so save your lectures for Turner. I will believe your vow to defend the right for people to speak on here when you extend it to the people with whom you disagree."

You can say bullshit ad nauseum, but you have not convinced me that it is, but welcome your attempt.
What you said above is a red herring, Sparky. You are making crap up now just like Ph(J)oanie. I defend the right for you and any other liberal progressive to speak their minds and always have. I also reserve the right to express my disagreement with their views just like you or anyone else does. To your post above, I have backed up why what you said is bullshit.

joanie

Chucks, join up. You're gung ho to send everyobdy else. I'm sure they'd take you. They need all the bodies the can get.

C'mon, you're past your prime. Give it a shot. Sign up.

You and five-deferments Cheney. All hot air. Move to Alaska and melt some more glaciers. Why don't you? You make me sick.

Turner, since when is a President not elected by all those people? Who should have elected him?

Actually, Turner, you must be a satirest. Nobody would actually post what you did in earnest...right?

joanie

Make that "satirist." :)

sparky

You assume, KS, that I am attempting to convince you of anything.

Joanie, how was BB?? Was the weather as great there as it was here?? It's hard to go back tomorrow.

chucks

It is not about me joanie. So, with all respect that is due to you, fuck off.

joanie

It is always about you, chuckles. That's the problem If it were about them, you'd be against killing them.

You are an old man who lusts after manliness and you equate manliness with war. Kill, baby, kill.

Sparky, the bay was beautiful! It was a pretty low tide this whole weekend and just absolutely magical. I always feel this way about the bay - about the ocean itself. I love the smell of the salt water and the endlessness of it all. We are so lucky to be living on a coast. I once read that BB has the least decline of any bay in the US? or world?. Can't remember which. Just goes out for what seems like miles and you're still only up to your knees. It is a really lovely bay.

Weather in the seventies or higher each day. I don't know - I just know it was very warm.

If you don't know BB, look here

A really beautiful bay. Have I said that already? :)

Coiler

Yes, the nicest Memorial day in 8 years that I recall.

As usual, any thoughtful discourse disappears as the members herein digest each other.

I see KSR is in time for dessert.

Here's PS's "Cheney Surge":
CNN Poll: Powell tops Cheney, Limbaugh
Posted: 03:08 PM ET

By Paul Steinhauser
CNN Deputy Political Director
WASHINGTON (CNN) — As Colin Powell fires back against Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh in the latest skirmish of the battle over the future of the Republican Party, a new national poll indicates that Americans have a much more favorable opinion of Powell than Cheney or Limbaugh.

People who identified themselves as Republicans, however, viewed the three almost equally.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey, released Monday, suggests that 70 percent of Americans had a favorable opinion of Powell, who was secretary of state during President George W. Bush’s first term, and who served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Persian Gulf War.

Only 30 percent of those polled had a favorable view of Limbaugh, the popular conservative radio talk show host, with 53 percent saying they hold an unfavorable opinion.

In poll numbers released Thursday, 37 percent said they had a favorable opinion of Dick Cheney, with 55 percent indicating they held an unfavorable view of the former vice president.

Among Republicans it was a different story. The poll suggests that 66 percent of Republicans had a favorable view of Cheney, 64 percent gave Powell a thumbs up, and 62 percent viewed Limbaugh in a favorable way.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll was conducted May 14-17, with 1,010 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey’s sampling error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.
