Santa loves you too, Habu!

sparky

Do you have a job, Habu? If so, consider yourself lucky since joblessness has reached a 26 year high. The New York Times will survive. I am more concerned about people who are losing their homes. Did you make a contribution to your local food bank? Did you drop a few coins in the Salvation Army bucket? Did you send a card to a soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan? Instead of doing Google searches for rumors, why not walk away from your computer and go find someone who isn't as lucky as you and make their day a better one. Hmmm???

joanie

Zero? Metrosexual Messiah?

Tell me which crazy rightwing email service I need to get such intellectually stimulating name calling You conservatives all seem to use the same lingo.

BTW, corruption doesn't have a name. Since Reagan's philosophy of deregulation, we've had a problem. Or maybe not. Maybe you all think corruption is good.

New Republican Logo:
GREED IS GOOD. CORRUPTION IS GOOD. THAT'S THE AMERICAN WAY.

"act For America. With Tom DeLay's selection as majority whip, the GOP began the "K Street Project," which pressured trade associations and lobbying firms to hire only Republicans and to contribute to GOP campaigns if they wanted access to Congress.

Lobbying has grown by leaps and bounds since then. According to the Washington Post , the number of federal lobbyists has more than doubled since 2000 to 34,750. In 1996 lobbyists spent $800 million. The Center for Public Integrity found that, since 1998, they had spent nearly $13 billion to influence Congress.

In the first study of its kind, the Center found that 1,300 registered lobbyists—representing 6,000 clients—had given $1.8 million to President George W. Bush since 2000. Fifty-two of these lobbyists served as fundraisers for Bush and raised another $6 million. Another 79 lobbyists served as treasurers for Congressional campaign committees. Of these lobbyists, some 250 are former members of Congress or agency heads and 2,000 of them formerly worked in senior government positions. Upon his election, Bush appointed 92 of them to advisory teams to effect regulatory decisions in every branch of government.

In February 2006 PoliticalMoneyLine revealed that lobbying groups broke all records, spending $1.165 billion in the first six months of 2005. This isn't even the total as the law doesn't require that many programs and other services paid for by lobbyists be disclosed.

Some claim business corrupts government. During the Bush administration business corruption produced the world's largest bankruptcies: Enron and WorldCom. Corruption at Global Crossing, Adelphia, Tyco, ImClone, Merrill Lynch, Qwest, and Arthur Andersen resulted in additional problems. In February 2006 American International Group, one of the world's largest insurance companies, was fined $1.64 billion for fraud, bidrigging, and improper accounting. The same month Nortel Networks paid a $2.4 billion settlement fee for an accounting scandal. News of insider deals, kickbacks, illegal fees, and other corrupt business practices fill the financial pages.

And so it goes ... and goes...and keeps ongoing.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't be caught throwing stones.

And Jimmy Carter, a veritable visionary. Our energy problems would have been dealt with thirty years ago and Saudi Arabia would be simply a far away desert on the map.

So, spread your spot ons around like they mean anything at all and try to take a collective reality check now and then.

You'll sound smarter.

Now, start the nitpicking Steven.

Puget Sound

Great, Joanie wants to bring us back to the days of Jimmy Carter.

Oh yeah, knock off these long as links. Just link to the article.

I am at the gym and sweating and up to the monitor I do see. David 'pimping out Chelsea' Shuster yammering away on the Valerie Plame case? eey Gods! He just didn't look comfortable. Lucky for him he is on a nothing network that few people watch.

Sparky,

Puget Sound

over the last ten years two Govt Sponsored Entities (GSE's) Fannie and Freddie spent over 175 million on our Congress. Anything to keep it going. That's money to Repubs and Dems alike. You saw what happened to the Regulator that tried to reign Fannie in didn't you?
Here

a little honesty, ph(J)oanie

and 'spot on' must have some impact as you keep harping on it. so until you manage to get that word banned joanie, 'spot on.'

Nevets

Hey Sparky, what was the Unemployment rate before the Libs took control of Congress in Jan 07?

Were worried about those who are unemployed now when you cast your ballot for a bunch of Libs in Nov. 06. Probably not since you thought it was going to much better with a Lib Congress. And now that it has gotten worse, you sound like you need to give to charity to make amends for your vote back then. A little to late if you ask me. Next time, think before you vote.

I know the line, "If I knew then what I knew now" but I am sure you still would have voted the same.

Nevets

I'm not going to nit-pick there Joanie. But seeing how hard you defended Obama over his 1 billion in earmarks I just cant see you being too concerned about this topic.

joanie

Between the nit-picking and gassy blasts, hard to find the facts fellas.

Puget Sound

nevets-spot on!
there you go 'nit picking' (we call 'em facts) again.
and the gassy blasts are no doubt self inflicted.
but if you would lay off the milk products it would probably help some in that department.
note that you won't get a comment from the clip provided. that would require some intellectual honesty. ooops, more of those gassy blasts.

Chuck from Tacoma

Ok guys, maybe it is time for a 36 hour truce. You know, it is Christmas.
I know it sounds a little cheesy, but peace on earth and good will towards men.
Merry Christmas to every danged one of you. If you do not celibrate same , than merry what ever.
Thanks for putting up with me.

joanie

Spot on, chucks.

sparky

Merry Christmas chucks. I hope you sell a LOT of Rv's in the new year.
It is still snowing here...still really pretty.

Puget Sound

chucks
good idea.
best wishes and goodwill to all.

Nevets

Aye Aye Chucks.

Habu

Yes to all your questions Sparky.

Have you done the same?

Next?

Coiler

If Jimmy Carter was tequllia then Bushler must be heroin or meth. A lot more have died, ya know?

joanie

Spot on, Coils.

Puget Sound

looks like a couple people didn't read the memo.
(not the one on the 'TPS Reports' either)
chucks declared a christmas truce for 36 hours.
All Hail Chucks!

Mil deaths by year: Note Carter years.

I found some interesting statistics the other day. Below is a list of deaths per year in our Military. My heart goes out to all of the families that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Thanks to the poster for revealing a pasting error. The figures come from page 10.

1980-2,392.....1981-2,380.....1982-2,319.....1983-2,465
1984-1,999.....1985-2,252.....1986-1,984.....1987-1,983
1988-1,819.....1989-1,636.....1990-1,507.....1991-1,787
1992-1,293.....1993-1,213.....1994-1,075.....1995-1,040
1996-974.......1997-817.......1998-827.......1999-796
2000-758.......2001-891.......2002-999.......2003-1,228
2004-1,874.....2005-1,942.....2006-1,858

You may initially feel confused when you look at these figures --especially when you see that in 1980, during the term of President Jimmy Carter, there were 2,392 US military fatalities. What this clearly indicates is that our media and our liberal politicians pick and choose and tend to present only those facts that support their agenda driven reporting. Another fact our left media and politicians like to slant is that these brave men and women losing their lives are minorities. Wrong again - Iraqi Freedom Fatalities over March 2003-June 2007 appear similar to our population breakdown. Regardless of how we crunch these numbers, we must remember that these figures represent the life of a son or daughter that gave up our their life for our freedom. (from page 22):
American Indian or Alaska Native...........259......1.00%
Asian......................................227......0.88%
African American........................2,1108........17%
Hispanic or Latino.......................1,682......6.51%
Multiple races, pending, or unknown......2,377......9.20%
Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander........146......0.57%
White...................................18,919.....73.24%
Total 25,830

Coiler

Maybe they're under reporting

Puget Sound

chucks ain't gonna like this...i'm just saying...

joanie

Spot on, Coils.

Habu

Post YOUR numbers Coiler and Joanie.

Chuck from Tacoma

Add to that total 822 killed this year and 904 last year and you get 27526 of the finest Americans.
They were all sons and daughters, sisters and brothers, moms and dads, Grandsons and granddaughters, showing courage while scared shitless.
God bless every one of them, as well as every one that went before and goes after.
May their families find some joy in knowing that we are a grateful nation. They gave so much so that we can sit at our little computers and act like know it all morons.
Again, Merry Christmas to all and may we be civil for a day. It really is not about us.

joanie

I agree, chucks. That damn Bush war for oil. Really took a seriously hurtful toll on our young people, didn't it.

Merry Christmas to you as well. And to all the families of all those kids.

joanie

Oh, and chucks, I know this is in your heart as well as mine:

let's not forget the huge numbers of kids coming home from this war savagely mentally, emotionally and physically disabled. They need our love and good thoughts as well.

They could use a working health care system, too.

Habu

War for oil? Where is it?

Fear not Ms Joanie, on 20 Jan there will be free healthcare for all and miraculous cures for all maladies.

Oh ye of so little faith.

Hark, the Mesiah arriveth.

joanie

No messiah worth his name would take twenty years.

War for oil? No, Bush didn't succeed at that either. He isn't much of an oil man really. We was defrauded when we elected him.

Habu

I seriously doubt you were part of the "we" who elected W.

Could it have been possibly about 16-17 UN Resolutions being trashed by your buddy Saddam and WMD's that ALL intelliegence agencies of the world powers thought were in existence in Iraq?

Nahhh, just W trolling for a war and beacoup $ from oil to be stolen.

Interesting article I just read that said al gore if elected would have done in Saddam the same as W. You all may have egg on your face with respect to W's legacy.

Speaking of defrauding-just wait. Did you see the pic of michelle in a screaming loud sarong in HI walking presumably on a beach eating a piece of chicken? My God! What have you done?

joanie

Habu, where do you get such foolishness? Most of us are long past that old saw. WMDs! hahahahahahaha

Even Bush admitted that fraud.

Article? From Newsmax perchance? Worldnetdaily?

Well, attacking the wife. When the war chest is bare, go wherever you dare no matter how deceitful, dishonest or scummy. (Old Rovian maxim)

Habu

Joanie;

Please buy some better wine.

We know you can afford it.

You can do better my dear.

joanie

Ah. A devotee of the sputtering sputs. He's the one who devolves into name calling when he's out of ideas.

Poor Habu.

Well, have a good night. Take Michelle to bed with you and you'll feel better in the morning.

You can try again with me.

Habu

What was the name I called you Joanie?

Are you writing of Michelle Malkin in your wine induced jealous fog?

Too much Red, Joanie?

Merry Christmas.

Puget Sound

geez, try to be nice.
won't work joanie.
time for a respite.
chucks has so decreed.
all hail chucks.
so see you on the other side of christmas.

joanie

Red? Are you accusing me of being a Communist?

That's a dated term. You must be old.

Merry Christmas, elder one.

BTW, who's Michelle Malkin?

joanie

STFU, Puget Sound. Nobody's talking to you. You continue to be nothing but a gassy blast.

Habu, you talk to this attentioin whore.

Habu

Attention whore:

Red is wine.

You may well be a commie-I dont know, but your posts leave room for discussion.

"Take Michelle to bed with you and you'll feel better in the morning."

What Michelle are you writing about if not Michelle Malkin?

Or dont you know?

That copious amount of Red can be deleterious.

I wasnt aware I was repeating myself. Is your left turn signal on?

Wow. Or to quote Duffman: OMG!

To see such poor language and spelling. From an 'Educator' no less!!
And on the night before Christmas. For shame.
All I can say is that you better hope Chucks doesn't find out about this.

KS

Ph(Jo)anie hitting the bottle while blogging once again, which creates her own gassy blasts. Cheers for saying STFU on Christmas Eve. So sad...

Merry Christmas anyway. Spot on.

Habu

From the NYT:

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-finkelstein/2008/12/26/union-got-be-kidding-me

Is there any doubt that the NYT is out of touch?

Does the term illegal have meaning?

Duffman

...and in summary:

"Twas the week before Christmas, and next to the Sound,
Not a creature was stirring, for all were snowbound.
Greyhound busses quit running, no matter the fare,
And the mail men and garbage said they just couldn't get there!

The children were sliding Queen Anne Hill on their sleds.
While roofs were collapsing on old people's heads.
And mamma in her boots and I in my cap,
Were stuck in the snow and ice and such crap.

When at the Home Depot there arose such a clatter,
I trudged from my car to see what was the matter.
A group of sad souls were waving their cash,
They couldn't buy shovels, they'd sold in a flash.

Tires were spinning and just wouldn't go,
And chains lay broken in the dirty old snow.
Then, what to my surprise did my eyes look over and see?
Eight representatives of SDOT,

With a fat politician so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it was Mayor "Salt Nick".

More rapid than gun bans, his excuses they came,
"To save our environment the roads stay the same!
On Broadway! On Boren! On Yesler and Denny!,
To clear off these roads would cost such a penny!

Sliding down Thomas and onto a wall!
The busses hung over I-5, ready to fall!
Still, he insisted it wasn't his fault,
As the world's greenest mayor he wouldn't use SALT!

That stuff's corrosive, could hurt the fish.
(But the Puget Sound's SALT WATER you ignorant kish!)
So snowy Seattle continued to stew,
But Mayor "Salt Nick" just hadn't a clue.

While I stood there astonished, on nearby TV sets,
I saw the airport was packed, no de-icer for jets.
Since others couldn't get down the roads to the ferry,
The city decided to close Denny and Cherry.

Police cars and firetrucks were highly impaired,

Citizens got no impression that Mayor Salt Nick cared.

A house that caught fire, or a rape in progress,

Was less important than "going green" in Seattle - I guess!

An accident closed the I-90 bridge,
And people couldn't drive down Finney Ridge.
Shovels, and salt had just flown off the shelf,
And I laughed when I heard him in spite of myself.

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
He tried to convey we had nothing to dread;
He spoke many words, but did little work,
Yet Seattle knew they should never have elected this jerk.

Then thumbing his nose at his citizens' plight,
He turned to the crowd and exclaimed "We've done right!",
And then to his limo refusing to yield,
He left to get solar panels installed on Qwest Field.

But I heard him exclaim, as he skidded past me
"Happy Christmas to all, heck, I give myself a 'B'

sparky

yeah my cousin sent me that in email today...pretty good.
