so what are the "shot" words tonite?

AuthenticAndrew

The Dave Ross on phone / Luke Burbank feigning interest one two punch really sucked last time. It sounded like Dave Ross was too good and too important to even be there in person and Luke Burbank sounded like we was desperately trying to think up questions for the sake of asking questions. Tokens political coverage at best. I'd like to hear David Goldstein's reaction because he might be partisan but he's insightful.

AuthenticAndrew

Speaking of TBTL, does anyone here still listen regularily? Their show about nothing schtick strikes me as being uncomfortably out of place in these times of bad news on a global scale amidst desperate campaign antics. People are shooting themselves because they can't pay the mortgage meanwhile Luke and friends are covering Gawker or deep frying Oreos or some shit.

nevets

McCain won.

AprilMayJune

Right on AA!

TBTL is dead air with sound.

mercifurious

"My friends"

McCain can it 10+ times (blech), but I'm not one of them.

Obama won... except only in Never-Nevetsland

nevets

Typical Lib. Got to break the rules to try to get an advantage. HUssein was lost most of this debate. He stumbled on his answers, never clear what his policy was going to be. Like his going to let Pakistan know where OBama was hiding and they better go get him or He will send two F-22 at 20,000 feet on a course of 060 with two bunker buster bombs. Does anyone think Obama would be there after Hussein briefs Pakistan. What a fool and you libs want to put him in charge of American lives.

nevets

That should be Osama. Sorry for the typo.

sparky

why do you think he won, Steven?

I watched the debate on CNN with the graph of reactions from the 100 undecided voters, and when Obama talked, the graph was way way up. When McBush talked, it flat-lined.
On MSNBC the green Independent line of reactions is wayyy at the top when Obama is speaking and go wayyyyy down when McCain speaks.

These are the people who will be deciding the election--the independents--and tonight they were not impressed with McCain.

sparky

On a radio note, Stephanie Miller is currently debating Dennis Praeger on the live stream on KTLK.

Coiler

McCain looked like a ghost tonight.

Tommy008

I was never a Goldstein fan but he's so much better than the dreck thst's on the air between 7 and 10 pm, it makes him looks absolutlely super. Remember, according to Tommy's Book of Fun Facts, "only about three dozen people who have walked the earth since the time of Christ, have been as annoying as Luke Burbank."

nevets

What I seen was a Hussein clearly confused on his answers. He looked like the his namesake Saddam Hussein after he was captured. His uhs, ugs, and ums were right up there with Palins winks.

Again, he said he would go through the budget with a scalpel, and again for the record, the President doesn't have line item veto. Its yes or no.

Healthcare a right? What kind of commie shit is that.

And what was that re-deploy our troops out of Iraq and into Afghanistan. I thought he wanted our troops in Iraq to come home, now he wants to send them to Afghanistan. Does he want Iraq to turn into the next Afghanistan. He even said we made a mistake after Russia was defeated there. Now he wants to make that same mistake in Iraq. What does he want.

In the last debate, he said he would make up the shortfall of his increase in spending by closing loopholes. Not mentioned tonight. Now its "net spending cuts". What happened, lobbyist didn't like the other idea.

Dagmar

I turned the sound off and watched them closely. Obama looked likable, reasonable and comfortable. Presidential? yeah- at least at ease enough to be on the stage being considered for the office. McCain looked huffy, itchy, animated in a peculiar way. His friendly look died early in the debate. I do media training and he was not good. People make decisions and judgments on a subconscious level that has to do with the kinds of impression picked up by turning the sound off. His smile seemed insincere, even a bit menacing, he looked irritable. I haven't see a debate before the Palin/Biden. Judging from this, I don't think Sen. McCain will win.

Tommy008

i just read an article online about how McCain snubbed Obama when he crossed the aisle recently to shake hands with him in the Senate. A bunch of libs on this blog which is put up by the New York Times, were all chattering in their posts about how terrible and rude and small McCain is. I don't think it's important that mccain be nice to Obama.the man has obvious disdain and contempt for him,as do I. There's an effrontery and insolence about this slick Obama fellow, this obnoxiously ambitious "user", that's really offensive and angering. If i was in McCain's shoes i would give him only the most perfunctory and minimal gestures of politeness as well. I would rather have a grumpy, rude old man as President than a slick, phony cult leader who has little schoolgirls singing creepy hymns of praise to him, and school classes of young black youths chanting in paramilitary unison about him. Scary

Your Dad

Obama.

Coiler

Its over for McCain

The insta-polls, which provide viewers with a somewhat skewered but important insight into how each candidate fared say, by and large, that Obama scored a victory in the second debate.

Frank Luntz's focus group, over at Fox, showed undecided voters leaning towards Obama because of his position on health care. CBS's focus group of independents had the Democratic nominee winning the debate at 39 percent to McCain's 27 percent, with 35 percent of the respondents saying it was a tie. Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a Democratic polling firm, had a focus group of undecideds leaning to Obama by a margin of 42 percent to 24 percent.

Meanwhile, SurveyUSA interviewed 741 debate watchers in the state of Washington, 54 percent of whom thought Obama was the "clear winner" compared with McCain's 29 percent. That same polling firm had the first debate as a tie. In tonight's survey: 42 percent of respondents said McCain was too forceful.

stevemc

\McCain had to do something in the debate tonight, and he did nothing. The reptitions of "My Friends..." now sounds like a shopworn echo of Wilfred Brimley.

The Republican partisans can spin all they want, will , but no one can honestly say McCain moved the needle of public opinion in his direction.

The images of McCain fleeing the room while Obama spent 20 minutes with the crowd in the room were very revealing.

Indeed, when McCain tried to compare Obama's tax policy to 'nailing Jello to a wall" focus voters measured mc same in the negatives. Note to McCain, most people don't eat Jello, hello? This is like saying I watch Matlock.

Coiler

Sarah will get out the KKK vote, we can depend on her to fuck it up. insert ROTFLMAO

Ain't sojoe

Obama gave us a look at the president of the united states, tonight. Never heard him so good in a debate. No harm done by McCain tonight. He needed to do some.

mark

who's this "Hussein" fellow you keep talking about nevets? I saw 2 US Senators debate for big casino tonight - no "Hussein" in sight...

hint: referring to Sen. Obama as such is pandering to the lowest common denominator and make you look like a mouth breather just FYI

joanie

I agree that Obama uses a few too many umms...but, you know, that indicates thinking rather than robotic answers.

He was able to answer questions reasonably and with clarity. I especially liked his answer to his priorities.

Almost everyone that watched agrees that Obama won. Pat Buchanan may disagree - I don't know. But I haven't heard of a single poll or pundit that thinks McCain won.

You know, Steven, my new cleaner at school is a Nam vet and he hates McCain. The majority of Iraq vets are pro-Obama.

Why do you hate him so much? Why is it so personal with you? You don't offer anything substantial when you talk about Obama or McCain. You just reinterate McCain's angry accusations.

What's with that?

BTW, do you have private health care or socialized health care? I'm curious.

joanie

Have to add that McCain's "my friends" mantra is sickening.

sparky

CNN snap polls:

Who expressed his views more clearly in the debate?

Obama 60
McCain 30

Who spent more time attacking his opponent?

Obama 17
McCain 63

Who seemed to be the stronger leader?

Obama 54
McCain 43

Who was most likeable?

Obama 65
McCain 28

No good news for McCain.

coiler for Obama for the win

People on the right are saying the campaign is over, judging by the responses I get. That it's "socialism" now. I don't understand how socialistic their claims when all those tax breaks to companies going overseas was really socialism at it's finest and you've been had.

I want to be thrown a bone now and then and for 8 years this idiot of a president mocked anyone who was not his 'base' and provided plenty of beef on the bone for the elite and divided this country more than the right claimed Clinton ever did. Our disdain for Bush and the mess he made was never to the level of vitriol the right used against any opposition they faced.

The socialism can come down my block if it means we move beyond what 8 years of failed corporate welfare meant to war profiteers who delivered nothing but electric showers and cheap equipment to our troops who will never know the true extent of this administrations policies.

It can come down the street if the ER is not used as a band-aid anymore as a test of how bad we like to think we have the best of everything and we are "the envy of the world". It sucks to be correct when so few get it. You'll all never be rich, so why do the bidding for those that are too lazy to riot?

nevets

I see you are well informed mark. Read up on who the candidates are and then get back to me.

nevets

Joanie, I never said I hated Hussein, I just don't like his socialist ideas. If I wanted to live in a communist country, I would have moved to Cuba a long time ago.

I spent 20 years of my life protecting this country from the threat of Communism. Twenty years. Now, if Hussein wins that would all be for naught. I cant understand why you want the USA to become a communist nation. Just cant fathom what makes that type of Government look so appealing to you. Why you want Government to control your life. Thats what Hussein offers.

Healthcare a right? Where is that in the Constitution. Is that in the Bill of Rights anywhere. No. Its a socialistic view to stir up the population to revolt against the Government. What ever hapened to being responsible for yourself and your family if you have one.

Tax Break, right, when have Liberals ever cut taxes?

Energy, Drill, baby Drill. Global Warming is a farce. McCain and Hussein beleive in it. I don't. I recall Sparky said this year will be the first time there will be no ice at the North Pole. She was wrong, and both candidates are wrong on Global Warming. Oil prices have fallen $60 since President Bush rescinded the ban on off-shore drilling.

I keep hearing that Barbara from that link you posted the other day. Socialism starts at the bottom. Sound familiar.

orcas

Who won the debate?...That one.

Tommy008

Didn't Kerry win 2 out of 3 debates? i think so.No clear winner last night. Dems may win this but it all dpends on who gets their voters out. Palin has the anti-abortion base fired up. A major poll, Zogby had Obama up over McCain by 2.8 points. Obama is still within the margin of error after the worst economic days in decades. Not thrilling news for his cult followers. haha McCain got a funny in last night and Obama proved to be a tight-sphinctere dweeb, and a stuffed shirt with no humor. Obama was saying'my opponent says im green and naive and he's somber and responsible"- McCain chimed in 'why thank you"! not a crack of a smile from the droning boring butthead.

joanie

Well, steven, you did it again. Not a word in response to my post. Just another monologue on socialism that isn't relevant to anything. Do you even know what socialism is? Communism? When were we ever vulnerable to becoming a socialist country?

Is there a difference between socialism and communism?

Do you hate social security?

Socialism for the rich is okay? Corporate socialism is okay?

I think you should reread Coiler. I think you should answer my question about your health care.

Do you even know what your talking about?

BTW, we lost in Viet Nam. Remember? So what? How has that changed the United States? Is Viet Nam a socialist country? A communist country?

I don't know. Do you?

Can you answer questions or are you just an angry old hater who quit thinking a long time ago?

And yes, you do hate "Hussein."

And the only one of the three on that video that you heard was Barbara? Why is that? Why is it that you can't hear the whole story. Why are you so eaten up with anger and hate that you can't even listen to another side? Did you even listen to Dean Baker? Did you?

You are John McCain and he will lose. Fortunately, there are fewer of you than us, tommy notwithstanding.

nevets

Now you dont like what Barbara said. One of your big three you thought were so right on the bailout. Now that you listen to it again you hear it and throw it away with such ease. Just like you. Like Husseins earmark for his wifes employer. Out the window. Like his association with a known terrorist. Out the window. All you care about is that a Republican will not become President and because of your hate for President Bush you are are willing to let this country become what so many have fought and given thier lives to prevent.

Now I told you long ago about my Healthcare. I pay 100% of my health insurance. 100%, how about you, how much does the state pay for yours. Is your memory failing.

sparky

Last night McGrampy claimed that Obama had approved $3 million for
"an overhead projector."

The 3 million is actually for an upgrade of the SkyTheater - a full dome projection system, which is probably the main attraction of the Adler Planetarium and is quite sophisticated and impressive piece of equipment.

The planetarium's focus, as stated on their website (http://adlerplanetarium.org) is "on inspiring young people, particularly women and minorities, to pursue careers in science." Is an investment in such public facility at the time when US competitiveness in math and sciences is a constant source of alarm a waste?

Fremont

Right on, CoFo and Joans! I was in right wing Yakima Friday, trying to persuade a Repug (naturally) WalFart enmployee to vote for Obama by touting BO's health care plan. "But then we'll have socialsim", the employee complained, saying it with gravity as if he'd said "Ebola". Socialisn is a nebulous dirty word to Repugs that, along with "communism" and "terrorism" have become interchangeable descriptions of All Evil. Apologists like Pa'in and Nevets (Ne'ts) use these words as talking points to justify unreasonaable opinions i.e. "We must win in Iraq so that our troops will not have died in vain protecting us from terrorism.

BTW, don't your ears screech when someone says "I seen"?

sparky

I had to put my red pencil away a long time ago regarding grammar on here...

rozskat

So Nevets, you had served this country for 20 years and not like what you see in Senator, soon to be president, Obama. I too had served this country for 20 years and certainly not flattered at what your side had done to it the past eight years or better yet since 1980! The “Republican America” under the regimes from Ronald Reagan to George W. Bush, resulted into something I had not expected to see in my lifetime.

The hidden racist epithets of referring to an American Senator born in Hawaii as “Hussein” is supposed to inject fear or worse yet hatred in me or others by eluding that he is a Muslim and a terrorist? I am sure that if this was another time with another war, if my relative name was ever exposed I would be locked up in an internment camp for being an undesirable alien with my patriotism and loyalty to this country questioned! I guess in your America I need a good Anglo-Saxon name and looks to be considered an American.

This country under conservative regimes can certainly find finances and resources to bomb other countries into oblivion or sustain corporate welfare with taxpayers being insurance underwriters. At the same time its disciples gasp at the thought of an African-American family in the White House. What will they do in 2042 when most of those who make up the conservative movement will not be the majority?

Turn out the lights, the election is over and will not be close. Palin was McCain’s worst move and turned out to be a liability than an asset. McCain is running an undisciplined campaign without an objective. Who are they running against, Obama or the GOP? Palin’s rehashing of Reaganomics as the solution to the sinking economy while not realizing that it was the culprit can only add confusion to McCain’s own solution, if there ever was one. If this is the way McCain is going to run a campaign, I certainly would not want him or Palin to run the country.

“Country First” as they say but cast my vote for Senator Obama for the sake of this country.

nevets

You are funny rozskat. Just like another on BW who used a form of shit in his screenname. I always wondered where Cowpotpi went. It seemed he was gone, then came back, gone, came back. Like one on a ship. Every three months or so on a regular basis. Just like you.

Now what do you say of refering to an American President as Bushler. Or King George. Are those acceptable to you. I at least use the Messiahs REAL middle name, like alot of others here on BW have used. "Hussein for Obama" "Coiler for Hussein". Do you consider them racist? Or is it like a "I belong to the in crowd" thing and only the few can use that word/phrase. And if you have used those mentioned above, then you dont have a leg to stand on.

Now Sparky, does that story also tell you that the administrator of the planetarium promised to raise $200,000 for Hussein. Just like his earmark to the University of Chicago, he got something in return which by all standards is unethical.

Puget Sound

This blog has been taken over by the same dangerous shitbags who are about to inherit the country. Obama is a stealth terrorist who will reveal his real plans once elected. They are Moslem national socialism. There is a solid reason why there has never been a black man with an Arab name elected in this country.

Excellent! I can't wait for these Walter Winchell/Paul Harvey fantasies to come true.

Aw Puts, you say the sweetest things!

Obama's first year.- Mandatory attendance at politically correct re-education camps for all white males over 40. Michelle Obama is named Special Assistant to the President and Director of White Re-education and Income Adjustment . All whites with net worth's over $500,000 will have their excess assets andinvestments above a half million confiscated, liquidated anddistributed in cash form to lower income black people and people of color.

You forgot the part where all our money will be changed so that instead of the faces of the Presidents, there will be Oprah, Chris Rock, Denzel Washington, Snoop Dog and Ice Tea.

Coiler

Yes, re-education camps for crazy republicans. Most everyone is on board, we cannot fail....

Tomy008

"How can you blame 'da man'when you are 'da man'?"-Wanda Sykes

How come you let sputs get away with another unsupported claim?

There is a solid reason why there has never been a black man with an Arab name elected in this country.

What is it?

joanie

I mean, besides the fact that one has never run...
