UPDATE: We just heard from Weekday host, Steve Scher who writes that the new site will eventually be linked from KUOW.org. Weekday's Blog is sort of a beta version not yet ready for the prime time into which the BlatherWatch exposure plunged it.
~
It ain't official, but you know what? It's somethin'!
(Steve Scher wearing his new blogger's hat)
Hidden in plain sight -- it's been there since July 2. There's no link from the KUOW site, but we serendipitously found it today while surfing. it's the new Weekday's Blog, an unofficial site some staffers have put up for the eponymous show (m-f,9-11a) on KUOW, the Seattle public radio station so resistant to new media platforms.
We've been kvetching forever about the lack of blogs (and most anything that interacts with listeners) on the KUOW site.
Their credo: Weekday is a daily talk show on public radio KUOW. Weekday's blog is a chance for the show to always go on, with new content from producers, listeners and readers. Share your thoughts on the posts or our shows. Contribute your ideas for new shows.
There are posts by host Steve Scher, and other staffers including Irene Noguchi, and Brad Iverson-Long. Only one comment since they started, but then again, the content isn't exactly provocative... yet. We're hopeful.
We've heard that staffers were chafing for an opportunity to blog, or otherwise communicate off the air with listeners. So now they have branched out a bit... not on the KUOW site, but with their very own blogspot.(Still can't figure out why you can't get to the Weekday blog from the Weekday page on KUOW.org)
They even mentioned Blatherwatch (for which we are grateful) and the last nasty thing we wrote about KUOW. ... wish they'd dropped us a line: we'd have shouted it to the moon.
Drop 'em a line and encourage them to take the wooden things out of their butts.
OK, but KWSU is much better.

If I'm not mistaken, Ross Reynolds has stated that he was specifically forbidden from doing a "Conversation" blog, even external to the KUOW site. I wonder if they've softened or if this one is going to be forced down.

I was at Progressive Tech getting my errant mac worked on when we got to talking about radio. I told them I came to them instead of the mac store because they advertise on air America.
So, one young man asked me if I knew who Steve Scher was. Of course, I responded. Turns out his best friend's dad is Scher.
Anyway, I took the opportunity to ask him if he listens to radio. He's 22 I think - about that. He said no - he's always on the go and he does have an ipod but never listens to radio simply because he's doing other things.
So, why do these people keep trying to attract an audience that simply doesn't have time for radio? That's a medium for us older folk. Start advertising to us. We have lots of money.
Well, chucks does anyway.

Actually, Steve wears that hat pretty much all the time.

"Forced down."
The August 5 entry reads:
"KUOW managment has directed that we stop blogging. This blog will be deleted shortly."
