Mike the Driver

All I can say is:

I don't listen to it... I'm in the 25 to 54 bracket at age 54 and as all I can say is

BULL FUCKING SHIT....on the ratings..

PROVE IT. Does Arbitron or anyone else call people to see if they are listening? How do they know they are 2.2%? How does that compare with other stations in the same time block at nite?

.2 rating for Frank Shiers?
When the phones are busy and getting calls at nite from all over?

Soon we shall see Jen have her own show and she can have the Lezzie's on... I said it before and I'll say it again, she wants to host her own show and not be a producer...

TBTL SUCKS ASS

Mike the Driver

So if they are so fucking good, why don't they move or hire more people with similar "talent" lol to do the Noon to 3 or 3 to 6 slots?????? Put all the same kind of shows on KIRO and put Dori/Dave and others on the "New 97.3" in a talk format.

litlnemo

Speaking of KIRO. Over the years, they've trained us well... when there is a disaster, a weather event, or any big local news story, tune to KIRO, and that's where the info will be that you need.

So tonight, we have a freak windstorm. Power goes out. It stays out for quite a while. I get out the wind-up radio to see what's up, and out of habit, tune to KIRO, figuring they'll be doing their overblown StormWatch '08 coverage, but it would at least be nice to at least hear a bit about what's going on and whether we can expect things to be fixed quickly.

And what do we hear? Phil-freaking-Hendrie.

So we go back to KOMO and leave it there until the power comes back. Good job, KIRO. Exactly why do we need you around when you're not giving us live and local?

Larson

I'm 56 year old white guy. I know I'm not supposed to, but listening to TBTL makes me feel happy.

joanie hussein

We used to talk about the validity of the Arbitrons. Am still curious about them.

Mindless chatter. Well, maybe that's the appetite that comes from eight years of Bush and right-wing radio.

Good for Luke and Jen.

nevets

Like I've said before. AWESOME.

But to a more serious topic.

In the past, they observed that the sun once went 50 years without producing sunspots. That period, from approximately 1650 to 1700, occurred during the middle of a little ice age on Earth that lasted from as early as the mid-15th century to as late as the mid-19th century.

The Sun is dying. Will taxing the last remaining sunlight be on the Libs agenda to make us fell better.

Gay Gary

Hmmmm. OK 12th place when all of the shows you're up against are repeats or airing on tape-delay is just not very awe-inspiring. People don't listen to talk shows that aren't live. TBTL has pulled in a "solid" (?) "default" audience by virtue of the fact that KVI, KTTH, KLAY and KKOL all essentially go "dark" starting at six. So this just means that a handful of people in Seattle prefer listening to Luke and June over listening to static. (If they're looking for a slogan I grant them license to use that: "2.2 Out of Every 100 People Listening in Off-Peak Hours Prefer TBTL Over Static or Music").

I don't think it's too big of deal to be a featured Podcast on iTunes. It’s just an algorithim that measures “new” subscribers versus “new” content. So a brand new daily radio show (that, ergo, is producing 15 hours of new content per week [a virtual unknown on iTunes where most podcasts are 30 minutes/week] and huge mathematical booster in the algorithim) should – realistically – rocket to the top right out of the gate and then drop off after 4-5 months there. It's the Billboard model.

But ... this does beg the question, if TBTL is "up" (ahem), and R&D is up and Dori is rawkin’ and rollin’, why did KIRO drop a slot this time? Who’s not carrying their weight?

Its not much of a stretch to imagine the show living some day on the KIRO website and iTunes therby freeing up another timeslot for the fogies to argue about whter lesbians should be allowed at baseball games, and other portentous stuff.

That would be a good PR tact to put this train wreck to bed. “It was just too popular to keep on the air.”

OK, this is more of a negative post than I usually make, so I will leave it by saying: kittens, sunshine, candy, apple sauce.

Gay Gary

Oooh, wait! I thought of one more naysayerish thing to say --

A staffer told BlatherWatch in an e-mail that she heard PD Rod Arquette say: "I've never, ever seen this kind of thing happen at any AM station."

There’s a story about Canadian communications pioneer Charles Sise. He’d staked his reputation so heavily on the idea of a trans-Canada telegraph line that he couldn’t afford to admit failure. When things started to go south he began investing his own funds into the project, ruining not only the company but himself in the process.

TBTLs #s just don’t seem very great but I expect that careers are riding on this – the only project Bonneville has undertaken since taking over – and not just L&Js. If that’s the case TBTL has a certain guarantee of security regardless of what happens. Though if McCain can say the economy is fine when indicators are contrary, KIRO should be allowed to say their little show is fine when indicators are to the contrary as well, I suppose. I guess we’ll see how iron-clad is their commitment when the Mariners come knocking? (I not only knocked TBTL I also set-off a McCain-Obama flame war all in one post. I think I get a badge for that or something.)

RedmondDem

From my favorite physics website:

The Sun will die when it completely runs out of fuel. Before that, it will run out of hydrogen and switch to helium fusion. This will make it become a red giant that may well engulf the Earth. The Sun is too small to progress beyond burning helium. It will eventually shrink to a white dwarf.

Don't fret about this too much, though. It won't happen for a long, long time. The Milky Way will collide with Andromeda before our sun goes into the red giant phase. That will destroy not only our solar system but big chunks of the galaxy. Time frame for these events: Milky Way/Andromeda collision in 3 billion years, sun becomes a red giant in 4-5 billion years.

Sounds like we can tax you for a long long time, Nevets!!

The indicators, Mr. Gary, indicate the show is breathing. Not bad for something so unique and so new. It did not die an untimely death, and there is a measurable positive response. Not bad for these days of tight competition and single digit audience shares. No one says Burbank is the next Limbaugh, but it is a glimmer of light in an industry that seems to be fading.Blatherwatch said TBTL was lab test. The online component is very important and may be the biggest story here.

Not your taste? who cares?

KIRO lost a place btw, probably because of baseball starting up. Also by the way- I work (for how long I do not know) for Fisher Comm. My friends at work would feel a lot better about our jobs if Fisher was investing in its programming like Bville instead of pulling it back like Fisher.

chucks

Holy crap Batman, Gary is posting about algore rhythm's and reddem
is sharing his favorite physics website. Too much math for this old coot.
I got nothing.

Sarkos

It took me a while, but I find TBTL addicting. I am not exactly in their age group but it's just comfortable being there. I find it interesting reading all these duffers who can't accept that something new must be found for radio to survive. To the boomers: it is getting less about you every day.

Georgia

I don't know anything about Arbitron, but by listening to TBTL, you can feel there is something going on.

Gay Gary

The indicators, Mr. Gary, indicate the show is breathing. Not bad for something so unique and so new. It did not die an untimely death, and there is a measurable positive response.

I'll just say again that, since KIRO is the only talk station in Seattle that is live on-air at 7PM, (and not "live & local", just live at all!) these numbers don't really jump out at me. When a tornado rolls through Wichita and the EAS signal preempts programming, the EAS signal is the highest rated thing in its time slot. That doesn't mean the EAS signal is a "big success" or that people love listening to the EAS signal or the EAS signal is an up-and-coming, popular feature, just that no one has any choice except the EAS signal. TBTL is kind of the daily EAS signal in tornado-less Seattle.

Monopolies in any industry tend to draw big numbers. TBTL has a 7PM monopoly in Seattle and is drawing "eh" numbers.

Robin Meade Stalker

I’m 26 and the show is boring as hell. “Awesome, Not Awesome” is good, but by the time they get to that I’ve long forgotten the show is on. If anything they’re competing with KJR-AM and Elise is brutal, even though she knows her stuff.

TBTL needs more of what the Mens Room, Lazlo and BJ offer. I know Luke is SOOOO above all that and he’s much smarter and would never sink that low, but at least those guys are funny and entertaining, and compared to Luke even BJ’s ego is small.

BTW, Rod, you’ve never heard of WNBC or WLUP-AM, you dumbass.

Bushwa

Well put, Mr. Gary, but Vinnie and Shiers were live too. I didn't say it was a "big success," I said it had "a measurable positive response."
The alternative to TBTL success may be a medium with no one listening who is under 35. That's not good for anybody's radio. Nobody that I can see is doing anything else to remedy that little problem.
So why do you wish it so ill? Do you want radio to go away as the boomers die off?

Gay Gary

Do you want radio to go away as the boomers die off?

Well I think I've been pretty clear on this point in past comments!

sara sue

Why don't they let these old people have their KIRO back, and let us have one of their other stations? They could have one spot for all younger programming. Better i would work. We like Nightside out of WSL and listen to it pretty regularly online. Now we like TBTL, too. My husband and I are in our late 20s and we don't have a regular radio in our house, never have, and don't know anyone our age who does. We listen totally online or sometimes in the car.

Upton

I've tried listening to TBTL, just sounds like a lot of gossiping to me. I don't know any other males who talk about the subjects TBTL brings up, I can only assume the program is attempting to appeal to a demographic of females and feminized men....what else can I say?

AuthenticAndrew

You've got it right. Luke Burbank is a feminized man, and I doubt he'd disagree as he makes little to no effort to not sound like a valley girl. I don't think he's gay and if Ryan Seacrest or that fascist Gay Gary have taught us anything it's that acting gay and being gay aren't one in the same.

Shawn (Shawnie) sounds juvenile, but with any luck he'll be a man someday and likely move on. And I mean no disrespect by any of this but Jenn sounds like a fag hag. She realy does, I'm not hating.

DT

As the most respected person in the comment section, I know most here want to see what I think on the various issues. In fact, I consider myself second in command to Michael in running this blog. I am Assistant Blogger, if you will. Anyway, my opinion on TBTL is ... I like it.

trickydick

I'll just say again that, since KIRO is the only talk station in Seattle that is live on-air at 7PM, (and not "live & local", just live at all!) these numbers don't really jump out at me.

Compared to live and local Vinnie and Frank last year, they should jump at you a little.

It's just evidence that tbtl is good in the fact that tubs of misogynistic, homophobic piles of cracker goo like Mike The Driver have their microscopic nards in a knot over it. If knuckle draggers like this women hating hairball actually endorse programming it's probably akin to the innovation of Dwayne Koti's Fat Man Sports, or Frank Shiers whiney pissed off privelaged white man bitching.

As far as all the gay bashing on this site, at least it's out in the open. Oh so Polite Seattle ain't immune from ignorance and hatred....

And Gary, those M's games on KOMO 1000 are live, as well. It's the team that's dead.

And litlnemo, last night's coverage of the M's went late, what with the game going ten innings. I was listening, what special KOMO storm coverage are you talking about, as the broadcast I was listening too had the same B list news break staffers as KIRO does at that time??? Which KOMO 1000 were you listening to, the imaginary one?

As for facts, cold and unwavering, tbtl is the holy scared Obama of Seattle Talk Radio, the blessed Virgin, the light in the darkness reaching out, the Jesus Christ, the President of the United States, and the sliced bread, at the crux....

Gary, I'll go slow, tbtl is 12th in the market, not 12th place at that time slot... DOH!

Anyway, you guys should all get together and compare fat rolls and make durty jokes about women and gays....

As far as not believing the ratings, well fine, believe what you will, but the 20 million that 710 booked last year were based on those ratings...

anyway, you ignorant, hateful kiddies wear me out....

How a man build his life around being sexually aroused by another man's anus I'll never comprehend. Some fetishes I just don't get. But hey, I believe in equal right and all that for the gays. But I'm not sure why this guy keeps trying to work his gay agenda into a talk radio blog. Is he trolling for other gays here? Are blogs the new bath houses? Anyway, as the leader of this blog's comment section, I want to remind everyone to try and keep their comments relevant to the post. Thank you.

WILD BILL

Hey DT, GO FUCK YOURSELF YOU TURD :)

I know you're not talking about me since Oculus Bleu is the top! (In fact, that's his email addy - [email protected])

Again, people, let's stick to the topic, which for this post is TBTL's ratings. Thank you for your cooperation.

chucks

OK master DT, I shall try to behave and stay on topic. But having WILD BILL come out and share with us or at least intimate that he is bi intrigued me. The things a guy learns on this innernet thing. Remarkable.
Anyway, I tried listening to TBTL for about the 20th time. Did OK until they got to talking about dead people that are still breathing, ie the salad dressing guy and the Dirty Dancing guy. They made the guy on KVI seem manly. Guess at 55, I just missed being in the demo for that show. Unlike others 'round here, I wish them no ill. They just have to make it with out my ears.

nevets

RedmondDem, Sparky, go to Dori's MyNorthwest webpage, scrool down a bit and you can hear obama taking a crap for about two minutes. And thanks for that news that the sun is not dying RedmondDem.

And did anyone else find it weird, that in Husseins victory speech he mentioned the Oceans will begin to recede and lo and behold, we have like the lowest tides in years. This guy is a Messiah, the second coming of Carter. Allah be praised.

vTech

I've said many times in the past that I like TBTL and have defended it on this blog but sometimes it does cause me pause. Luke ran a kind of weird survey on his webpage a few days ago asking if his breasts were bigger or some random girls were bigger and it was kind of weird, I didn't really follow the conversation at all and I missed a few days of the show so maybe it was part of one of the inside jokes and I just didn't get it.

Anyway, O/T - speaking of surveys - as found on the R&D page earlier today created by poster "Zan O.":

joanie husssein

Let's see if I've got the science according to Steven right:

The sun is going to burn out so we should prepare and start taxing it's warmth.

The oceans are doing fine.

And that Carter did not try to address the energy crisis thirty years ago?

Or is it that we do not have an energy crisis?

Am I reading you correctly O' Wise One?

JOKE

Subject: Doctor's

I recently chose a new primary care physician. After two
visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age.

A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?

He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco or drink alcoholic beverages?'

'No,' I replied. 'I don't do drugs, either.'

Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?'

I said, 'No, my other doctor said that all red meat is unhealthy!'

'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, boating, fishing or relaxing in the beach?

'No, I don't,' I said.

He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?'

'No,' I said. 'I don't do any of those things.'

Then he looked at me and asked,

'Then why do you give a shit?'

RedmondDem

That is what I ask myself every time I read one of your posts, Nevets. Very good!

coiler

Maybe it was about McBush?

litlnemo

I wouldn't say KOMO's coverage was stellar, just that they were the only ones talking about it at all. There was no baseball game at the time we turned it on, just their normal news around the clock thing. It was good to have someone out there telling us how bad the outage was, at least.

Wild Bill

litlnemo, again my sincere apologies for my disparaging comments regarding your post....just curious, though, what do you think of Seattle's glittering radio gem, tbtl?

Khayman

vTech, Luke didn't run a survey about his man boobs, some one else was making comments and wanted to run a survey about it. It was based off a picture of Luke that was posted on their mynw page.

In other news I'm not surprised that their numbers are decent and certainly better than the show that preceded them in the time slot (is that really that hard to do?). The trick will be to see if they can sustain the numbers and actually increase them.

sparky

ah, the telltale :)

vTech

vTech, Luke didn't run a survey about his man boobs, some one else was making comments and wanted to run a survey about it. It was based off a picture of Luke that was posted on their mynw page.

Oh okay, that makes more sense ... I think. Was it supposed to be a joke or mean? It seems kind of mean to me to attack someone just because they're a little top heavy, but maybe it was all a joke.

nevets

So RedmondDem, did you catch that audio. Was I right, almost 2 minutes. How about you Sparky? I can't wait for the debates.

nevets

No Joanie you are not, as usual. It was the "Sunshine" we need to tax. Don't you agree. It's warmth is already about to be taxed and we wouldn't want to tax it twice now would we. Wouldn't it be nice to know future generations can enjoy the suns sunshine. Maybe the tax can be used to fund a project to move our galaxy out of the way of Andromeda. Wouldn't an extra 2.5 billion years of Sunshine be nice for those relatives of ours in the future.

I don't think I said anything about the health of the Oceans. Just the coincidence that Hussein mentioned they will start to recede and we had the lowest tides in quite awhile.

Now how else could the Libs get back the Presidency unless they create a crisis that the people of this country find unbearable. What have they done in the last 2 years in control to get the price of energy down. Nothing. Even when their candidate says he has worked with those from the other party to get bills passed, they still haven't gotten nothing done. They would rather bicker about Attorney firings instead of opening up ANWR for oil exploration. They would rather see another 9-11 attack instead of opening up the coast of Florida for oil exploration. And lo and behold, we have a Liberal Congress created crisis with 4+ dollars a gallon of gas and a candidate for President with a name of Hussein who goes behind a sign that gets him the pity vote by people like you. And if more fall for this shell game, we will find ourselves with a Carter Lite, and we know what it was like with 20% interest rates. or have you forgotten.

sparky

Steven, he didnt say they would recede ( where would the water go?) he said the level of the ocean would not increase, as in the accelerated melting of the polar ice cap would slow down. Low and high tides have nothing to do with raising the overall level of an ocean.

chucks

With all due respect sparky, but what the hell good comes out of that decision? Why on earth should those shit weasels who's sandals have never touch American soil get rights under our Constitution? Is our Constitution international law? Does that mean that other nations constitutions apply as well. I am sure that some shitholistan has a provision that requires women to wear burkhas. Damn woman, suit up.
The only error Bush and our military made was to not "field strip them of information and execute them on the spot. It worked in the Spanish-American War, WW's I and II and Korea.

sparky

They arent letting them go, they just ruled that they can ask a lawyer why they are in there. It doesnt stop them from being prosecuted if they are guilty. The problem with getting rid of habeus corpus is that there are no stipulations on who it affects..and at some point it could be you and me.

joanie hussein

...shit weasels who's sandals...

You like this guy? You can have him, Sparky. He's a salesman. He's done a job on you. '

An ignorant jerk who can tell jokes is still an ignorant jerk.
