Barry Nolan, veteran TV journalist and Boston cable anchor got the boot for publicly protesting the local EMMY chapter's decision to honor gasbag, Bill O'Reilly.
Nolan tells MediaBiz he was fired Tuesday following a two-week, unpaid suspension. “I knew going in that there was serious risk that I’d lose my job,” Nolan said yesterday.
When they announced O’Reilly people booed,” Nolan said.

As Jossip asks: "Isn’t criticizing Bill O'Reilly the type of thing people get emmys FOR?"
There's no evidence that O'Reilly applied any pressure on Comcast to fire Nolan, although it's the sort of thing he's usually willing and able to do.
Nolan says he has no regrets about speaking out against giving O’Reilly “the highest honor” that the local Emmy Awards can bestow.
Wait...
Barry Nolan form Says You?
I didn't make the connection when I saw it on countdown, but seeing the name in text......
That is just funny.

He was the host of Hard Copy from 1990 to 1998. Nolan later became a journalist for Extra! On those last two sghows, he was going head to head with Bill O'Reilly who was on Inside Edition, a tabloid/gossip television show.

Barry Nolan got fired because he got old, he sucked and he got no ratings. Bill O'Reilly had nothing to do with it.

'Barry Nolan got fired because he got old, he sucked and he got no ratings.'
Unfortunate but spot on true; abob got it right.

Hillary invokes Assassination of RFK
Fri May 23, 2008 at 12:58:24 PM PDT
For any left who still think she'd be "dreamy" as the V.P., this should put it to rest.
From the New York Post via Americablog:
Hillary Clinton today brought up the assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy while defending her decision to stay in the race against Barack Obama.
"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.
This is definitely "Worst Person in the World" material.
For those who don't trust the NY Post, the site has video confirming the statement, and having listened it it myself, it is downright disgusting. Jon Chait was right, she is temperamentally unfit to be president.
UPDATE: Drudge is now Headlining it. So this may take off.
MSNBC is now covering it as well....Keith, you watching?
In a strange way, I'm somewhat grateful that Clinton made this remark, because media coverage of this interview will no longer be about her quixotic V.P quest. Now, it should be completely obvious that Obama could not, and would not, chose this monster as his running-mate. This has been apparent to most of us all along, and I don't think even the corporate media is going to be able to swallow this whopper.
UPDATE II: First Read is reporting Clinton's response:
Clinton spokesman Mo Elleithe just said to a group of reporters in South Dakota -- including Memoli -- that this is "one of the more ridiculous" issues that has come up in a long race. The campaign, he said, will soon send out an official comment.
*** UPDATE *** Here is the official statement from Elleithe: "She was simply referencing her husband in 1992 and Bobby kennedy in 1968 as historical expmales of the nominating contest going well into the summer. Any, any reading into it beyond that is inaccurate."
No, Ms. Elleithe, it is not ridiculous to be upset about Clinton's statement. Barack Obama is the first political figure in a long-time to inspire the downtrodden in the same way that RFK, JFK, and MLK did in the 60's. To make wholly unnecessary references to the assassinations of those great men when discussing your own historic race against Senator Obama is the height of cynicism and disregard for the movement that Senator Obama has created and the adoration his supporters feel for him. It is sick and cowardly, and if the super-delegates have any spine, they'll push you and the monster you work for out of this race promptly.
UPDATE III: Hardball is leading with the story. Could this push her out of the race?
Posted by: sparky | May 23, 2008 at 02:16 PM
Wow...I agree sparks - this IS troubling; she must be incredibly exhausted.

Fluffman doesn't care, looks like he is taking Hillary's Scorched Earth policy in stride.
Posted by: J.Hova | May 23, 2008 at 02:31 PM
This just makes me hate Obama and Obama supporters all the more. You want to ignore and write off Hillary's extremely large base over some poor choice of words?
If you continue on this path of telling half the Dem party to fuck itself they aren't going to turn out in November or they will vote for McCain, who's has cross-over apeal to begin, so keep shooting the party in the foot, suckers.
Posted by: AuthenticAndrew | May 23, 2008 at 02:34 PM
So, it's really telling that if the 'wrong' half of the democratic party is offended by Hillary losing, they will vote for McCain?
Posted by: J.Hova | May 23, 2008 at 02:41 PM
J.Hova...gee, I wonder what alias that is DUH ....tehehe SOS !
Posted by: Duffman | May 23, 2008 at 02:43 PM
The "why" they would vote for McCain is interesting but not important, all that's important is that many will.
Posted by: AuthenticAndrew | May 23, 2008 at 02:45 PM
When I first heard this statement, I gotta say, I believed she was referencing June nominations. I didn't then, and still do not, think there was anything malicious in mentioning R. Kennedy's assassination in June. What would her point be? Sensitive topic...yes, malevolent intent to slime, no. She has apologized. Let it go.
Posted by: Fremont | May 23, 2008 at 02:50 PM
ALL-right Fremont...just like the adjudicator I guessed you to be; thanks and have a good week-end.

Here it is:
"Drudge, who has been outed at least twice, runs anti-gay ad for Family Research Council"
Posted by: mercifurious | May 23, 2008 at 03:17 PM
Oh my gawd merci. Are you saying that Matt Drudge speaks fag? Is light on his feet? Drudge is a queer? Are you saying Matthew Drudge is one of the homo's?
Shit, can that be true?
But then, isn't that something most of us stopped caring about years ago? So why in your most progressive of worlds would you bring that up?
Are you one of those famous "homophob's" we hear so much about? It is time you become a bit more pergressive and drop the gay bashing.
Posted by: chucks | May 23, 2008 at 04:11 PM
Jeez, Chux, MF is not gay-bashing, Drudge is!
Again, it's the hypocrisy that is heinous, not the state of gayness. Read the link! (If HC can apologize, so can you!)
Posted by: fremont | May 23, 2008 at 04:55 PM
No need for me to apologize for that post freemont. MF just likes to stir up a lil' poop now and again.
My point is that it does not matter. I am moderately amused at the site that merci guided us to with his link.
The site he linked to just makes me see somebody validating their own lifestyle by harming others. Not my thing.
Posted by: chucks | May 23, 2008 at 05:21 PM
Drudge is not the biggest fan of the Republican Party. He is much more of a Libertarian/First Amendment type.
Who cares if he is Gay?
I would care only to the extent that he was doing a Larry Craig double standard thing as a lawmaker with power.
Sparky, did I catch that right. You called Hillary a monster? Anychance that back in the 90's that those who opposed the Clinton's may have been right after all? That maybe indeed while Bill was out assaulting those women that Hillary was in the background running the 'bimbo eruption' squad that intimidated/harassed those that dared to complain.
After all, you don't think that ALL those women were lying...do you? I don't. Or is it only know that the Clintons have become monsters...
Posted by: PugetSound | May 23, 2008 at 05:35 PM
No I did not call her a monster. The person who wrote the article for the Ameriblog called her a monster. And the article had nothing to do with Bill and Monica. You have been hanging around with Steven too much.
Posted by: sparky | May 23, 2008 at 07:47 PM
Drudge or his supporters may claim not to be the biggest fan of the republican party but certainly he gains the most when they use him as one of their favored tools. I along with most people have never met a 'libertarian', have you Putz?

Olbermann: over the top!
Watch here!
Posted by: Fremont | May 23, 2008 at 08:14 PM
Anybody who heard the tape of HIllary using RFK's assassination to reference June knows very well that she was referencing June and had no intention of making assassination the focus of her comment.
I'm as tired of the left's exaggerations of everything as I am of the right's.
When are we going to become adults?
She's tired. She was talking about June. Let's get over it, folks. Issues are important. Let's get back to issues.
Fremont. Wise response.
Does anybody expect chux to actually respond to what's posted? That would be a first.
Is anybody else tired of Duhff's te he-ing? It's just not cute anymore.

Olbermann doesn't have the respect or dignity he attributes to himself by impersonating Edward R Murrow and with his platitudes and feigned outrage and the repeated, repeated, repeated hyperbole like "how dare you sir... how dare you sir..." He's a total joke.
He has lost credibility as a measured commentator by picking on O'Reily and shilling for Obama, you can be assured that he doesn't read the paper in the morning looking for the truth, he looks for any reason he can find to make O'Reily the worst person in the world or to say "omg wtf look what Hillary did today!"

Awe come on joanie, what the hell can I add to the BillO thread. Come to think of it, when did somebody last post about BillO on this thread.
Merci just got hold of my goat a little bit. I get tired of bigoted shit is all.
Do not want to get in to the Clinton misspeak. That was all that was.
Although I have long ago forgiven myself for my youthful liberalism (rat bastard commie days), the Bobby Kennedy still hurts a little. I was a wide eyed Kennedy supporting moron kid and was at The Ambassador Hotel June 4 and 5, 1968. Not inside, again I was just a kid, but outside hoping for a peak at RFK.
To this day, in my conspiratorial mind, I think that was the beginning of the war with radical islam. That is a day that did a lot to fuck up my world view.
Posted by: chucks | May 23, 2008 at 09:27 PM
Well, you don't honor Bobby's memory with the direction of your fuck up.
BTW, did you like John Stewart? "July You're a Woman" (one of my favorites) and his album about Bobby's campaign. Just an awesome tribute to Kennedy. I have the album put away and haven't listened for years but here's a you tube of Stewart if you want to hear him. Actually two. The first is an interview with an older John remembering Bobby.
The last is a sixties video of him singing with Buffy Ford. What a voice. At least, I thought so.
BTW, I went to a farewell (one of many) Kingston Trio concerts just to see Stewart.
"Q. What was the "Last Campaign?"
A .John and Buffy toured with Bobby Kennedy during the 1968 presidential campaign and sang at campaign rallies before Bobby's assassination n Los Angeles in June 1968, the night he won the California primary and appeared to be headed toward receiving the Democratic Party nomination. John did an album of songs from and about that campaign, titled The Last Campaign, and wrote a song of the same title that is on "Phonix Concerts."
"RFK remembrance show from 1988-Part 8 of a 10 part program."
Check this out, chucks. If you loved Bobby, maybe this will restart your heart again.
an earlier Stewart singing California Bloodlines
Talk about memories.

Darn chucks, why do you go to bed so early?
Well, don't tell me. I don't really want to know...

RFK would have made a good President, he believed in and crusaded for justice and probably would have been better than his brother JFK and am sad to this day that his opportunity was snuffed out. His younger brother was nothing like him - too bad, but he will have his legacy.
I will be called one of the worst people in the world for bringing this up, but I wouldn't be too sad if certain individual(s) on MSNBC were hit by an assasin's bullet from a rightwingnut and spared many of us from having to ever listening to his verbal vomiting tirades that mock editorials again OR more civilly, just take this jackass, the fired former ESPN sportscaster off the air.
With that said, Hillary's comment was ugly - that exposed her soul. Sorry, Duffer - long campaign or not, I have to call em as I see them.
Posted by: KS | May 23, 2008 at 11:48 PM
Christ, Jesus, and Hell's Bell's, boys and girls Hillary was merely pointing out that RFK was well into June and still campaiging for the presidency. I suppose she could speak in eupemisms and say something like, "he was well into June still campaigining when he was tragically forced out of the race". Or should she have said he was well into June and still campaiging and not even refer to why his campaign stopped?. Neocon talkhosts are now runnign wit this "gaffe' and saying things like "yeah she just made a POOR CHOICE OF WORDS. RIIIIGHT! She knew EXACTLY what she was saying (insert cynicle chuckle).Do you rabid Obamanites really want to be in the company of Repug clods like these? Barack can't win.
Posted by: Tommy008 | May 24, 2008 at 12:39 AM
Hillary Clinton is saying all these evil things, Obama has little or nothing to say about it, but his supporters excoriate her all the while Obama stands by on the sidelines, like a pussy, showing no leadership over his flock to bring some sort of order or focus to come to a civil understanding of what is and what isn't proper discourse. I'm prepared to vote for McCain on account of his having something sorta resembling a back bone.
I'm a liberal but Obama's gutless show over the past two months has concerned me in a way that transcends finer points of policy.
Posted by: AuthenticAndrew | May 24, 2008 at 02:23 AM
Sparky
Just a little confusing as to what you were quoting and what you were writing. I thought since you had posted it that you were agreeing with that assertion. Besides, you usually link to long articles.
Interesting wake up call for some on the left.
The Clinton conduct towards 'all those lying women' was just the observation that many who blindly supported the Clintons in the 90's may now be getting a little uncomfortable. Did the Clinton's just start start being so venal or is it a habit that they have had for quite awhile. Hillary now cites to Karl Rove. Before she actively used Dick Morris.
But hey, introspection can be difficult for some to engage in as it can lead to unpleasant conclusions. I'm just saying some on the left are looking a little hypercritical that they 'just figured the Clinton's out'
Nobody Left To Lie To' by Christopher Hitchens is a wonderful book on Clinton conduct.

Keith Olbermann gets his ass kicked by Bill O'Reilly because the viewing public recognizes his inherent phony character. Keith is a 21st Century Howard Beale. (Yeah, we get it Keith. You are mad as hell and you aint gonna take it anymore)Yawn.

Can you believe that that was forty years ago? No, I had forgot about Buffy and John (and Dylan, Joplin, and many others from that era). It was fun believing in pipe dreams and such. To live in a commune, the LA Free Clinic, Dr Hook and the Medicine Show. All that shit with a $10.00 three finger lid and free love to boot.
Having to grow up and learn that it was all bull crap sucks.
RFK becoming POTUS and what could have been still haunts to this day.

Ah, Joans, thanks for that nostalgic glimpse back...I loved it! I noticed Russ Kunkel on "Bloodlines", the fab drummer who accompanied all my folk faves from those days. I had memorized every word of "The Kingston Trio at the Hungry I" (Eye??), but stuffed that vinyl in my closet when I joined the oh-so-hip blues and Yazoo crew at college. ( Bla'M, himself, is alleged to have been a KT ukulele-playing, button-down folkie fan.) Great tribute to Bobby! Thanks again!
