I rarely listen to Kiro anymore. WADR, Dave Ross may be sainted but he rareky says much interesting. MOnson is blow hard, Dumb and Dumber actually can be interwsting and I suspect are a lot brighter than their act.

AS To Good to Be True or what the fuck .. what the fuck sums it up.

AuthenticAndrew

I heard Dori make a politician live to regret he had ever went on his show a year or two ago. The guy hung up on him so Dori mocked him for the next two or three days atleast once an hour. I highly doubt that's specificly why other politicians go on his show, but he constantly likens all local governemnt to Nazis, communists, arsonists and terrorists. The idea that after all that he is somehow surprised that he can't get a local politician on his show is truely a shock to me. I thought he knew what he's doing but aparently he's truely oblivious. A person must think they're a god if they believe they can destroy someone's character and then moments later summon them to his court and expect they'll happily show up.

TBTL is all but self described as gay. Luke Burbank is a valley girl stuck in a mans body. His banter with Jen Andrews comes too easily and his fascination with the show's whiny engineer is inexplicable. If you took a shot for every homosexual inuendo within a given hour of the program you'd be dead within the first fifteen minutes.

AprilMayJune

Using JP's name in the same headline as Dori's is an insult to JP!

sclub

Dave Ross is a crusty, boring little runt.

My Man Dori

Wow...this is all you've got?

The guy has the highest rated show in the Seattle market and you attack him for critizing our public officials?

As Dori enjoys a week off in the sun this blog tries again to bring him down with the same old tired boring rant.

PugetSound

Will that same politician who avoids Dori go on KVI with John Carlson?

If so, then I respect the politician. If he only goes on the 'friendly' shows then I don't really care too much for 'em.

For example, Democrat Sec of Transportation Doug McDonald goes on liberal and conservative talk shows to explain what is happening with State Transportation issues. Talk about something that is difficult in the best of circumstances as few of us are happy with the current state of transportation. However, he does come on the air and answer directly the questions posed.

The McDermott interview on Bryan Suit's show is a classic. No wonder McDermott won't stray in the deep end and prefers to stay on the friendly shows.

Duffman

This blog is one of Dori's best 'contributors'...you will duly note we can't avoid him for long! His greatest fear is being ignored. I'm with PUTS...if politicians are worth their salt they'll go on any talk show that serves the public and be able to handle the host, regardless of any 'bent' the host may have. Otherwise I've no respect for their (the politician's) ability to truly 'communicate'. As I've said 'many' times before what Dori does is contrived and well planned, he DOES his homework and has a terrific game plan within the industry. I think if the truth be known, his peers really respect him or are so jealous of him that they'll diss him at any chance they have. Continue on Dori..you are truly the KING of Seattle-Area talk radio...and EVERYone knows it.

drool

Considering Dori actively pimps one of the cars on Consumer Reports' list of least likely to make 200,000 miles (Jag...he drives one too), he ain't all that bright.

DT

Yawn. Another predictable and untimely post. Even the food posts are weak. Who the hell wants to hear about some Namibian diner in Humptulips that serves authentic goat knee meat?

RedmondDem

Why does anyone listen to Dori? Duffman, you keep saying he is the King..why is that? Why does he have ratings at all? By Dori's own admission, he has a weak line-up of guests. Do angry young men need him around to have someone voice their frustrations? I have not listened to Dori for years, but even back when I did, he had little respect for either his guests or his callers. So eventually, his guests have quit bothering. I know the talk radio market in Seattle is pretty bleak, but why not just listen to music instead of Dori? What is remotely appealing about this guy?

trig

don't insult J.P. it pisses off us patches pals.

DT

RedmondDem, can you cite a specific example of Dori not having respect for a guest? When you used to listen "years ago," tell me of one example of what you heard that made you allegedly never listen to him again.

PugetSound

Duff
Spot on as usual. I've been gone for the week.
Ialways find it interesting that the same Dem politicians that avoid Dori will go on to Dave's show. I think he is considered the 'safe' show. He may ask a tough question but he won't push the issue like Dori.

EmsDad

I doubt most of you never listen to the Dori Monson show. He is VERY courtious to his politician guests. My only complaint is that he is TOO courtious and doesn't pursue the tough questions enough. The politicians in this state won't do an interview with a host that is not in lock step with their ideas. It's sad that liberals think of people who don't agree with their ideas as being rude. They just don't want to hear opposing views on any subject.

PugetSound

EmsDad
Many of those Liberals live in a Blue Cocoon. They don't like having their ideas challenged, they dismiss those with different points of views, and have a hard time engaging/appreciating that others may in good faith be looking at a different solution to the problems at hand.

Hey Duff
This may be good news for Hillary. Wonder how this duo would do on the campaign trail in the general election....

"From NBC/NJ’s Matthew Berger
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Teresa Heinz Kerry joined Michelle Obama at a rally at Carnegie Mellon University today, saying she hoped the state would support Obama the way it had voted for both of her husbands.

“Pennsylvania voted for both of these good men,” she said, referring to the late John Heinz, a former Republican senator in the state, and Sen. John Kerry, the 2004 presidential candidate. “And this election, I hope Pennsylvania will join me in casting a ballot for another great and good man, Sen. Barack Obama.”

junebug

Mikey told me once that Blather has to have one Dori bashing a month because readers love them. He is just a slave to ratings too.

Dana

Dori's an idiot. What does he expect when he'll have someone on his show, be polite while they're on the air with him, then as soon as they're not there to defend themselves, trashes them?

I'm sure every local politician he's done this to learned their lesson after the first time.

He's right about one thing: he IS irrelevant and insignificant.

David Tatelman

Sure, Dan McDonald tried hard to get along with Dori, answering his questions and even taking him on a tour of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Even then, though Dori acknowledged he was a nice guy, after he left he would slam the Dept. of Transportation and every other state agency. Now McDonald is gone, having learned that you can't be nice to Dori. It just doesn't pay.

PugetSound

Here you go Randi gets suspended again. I guess this explains why the Skeddadler is silent...no talking points!

"STATEMENT OF AIR AMERICA RADIO, FROM CHAIR CHARLIE KIREKER
By air america
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 3, 2008
New York - Air America has suspended on-air host Randi Rhodes for making inappropriate statements about prominent figures, including Senator Hillary Clinton, at a recent public appearance on behalf of Air America in San Francisco which was sponsored by an Air America affiliate station.

"Air America encourages strong opinions about public affairs but does not condone such abusive, ad hominem language by our Hosts," said chair Charlie Kireker."

This Clip

DT

I don't think Dori's an idiot. I think he's very clever when it comes to how to create a successful, entertaining, conservative talk radio show in a liberal part of the country. He could even be called a genius when it comes to talk radio. I think he knows exactly what he's doing. And I think the fact that officials won't go on his show only adds to his schtick.

Central Concern

She wasn't speaking for AA, she was doing her own stand up. She is free to speak her own mind and who she supports in the election. If the Clintonistas don't like criticism, then how are they going to handle being in office?

Clearly this shows the whining of her supporters when they are 'unloved' by the rest of us.

This from kos..
Clinton supporters pumped some money into Air America, etc. and haven't gotten the return on the investment they expected.

Democratic listeners supported the network and its affiliates and the stations found friendly advertisers in diverse markets.

Now most Progressive Talk radio hosts have come out openly for Obama and the Clinton supporters who pumped some money into Progressive Talk are peeved.

"Randi, Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller are now in the crosshairs? If Clinton backers kill Progressive Talk they do so to the detriment of the party and Progressive values".

I agree with all of the above, if Hillary wants to play this way, she will lose big time this summer...

Mike Malloy should be good tonight.

PugetSound

Central Concern
You do realize that Air America is just a pawn of Karl Rove, evil Republican Genius don't you?

Here you go, some red meat on Hillary. Fired for lies, deception, and falsehoods....who woulda thought!

Hillary we hardly knew ya!

(the best part is about hiding files....hmm, when did we see that happen before!)

liberalradiostillsux

Yeah, well, the more cyber ink you paste on the Web about Dori, the bigger his paycheck.

And liberal hosts will never make it... from R&R...

RANDI RHODES SUSPENDED

Air America has suspended on-air host Randi Rhodes for inappropriate statements she made about prominent figures. At an appearance on behalf of the network and Clear Channel talk KKGN (Green 960)/San Francisco, Rhodes used agressive language to describe both Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro, calling each on a "fu&*ing whore."

"Air America encourages strong opinions about public affairs,’ but does not condone such abusive, ad hominem language by our Hosts," said Air Amierca chair Charlie Kireker in a statement released by the network.

Duffman

Well, I'm trying to think of a politician that hasn't lied at some point in his/her career?
About the only one who comes to mind would be Steve Largent...and he quickly got out of politics. Yes, I know that Mrs Clinton 'stretches the truth' (like they all do), but I'm willing to put up with that to see her establish her legacy with 'health care'. She's our best chance for health care in this country. BTW, apparently her campaign story about the mother and daughter (in Ohio) who died because of lack of $100 to be admitted to care was TRUE. Dave Ross actually tracked down the source of the story and verified on his show today.

pugetSound

duff
you may have the right message but wrong messenger. but it is nice to have someone i can disagree with and not have him be disagreeable.
i have a lot of respect for you.

AuthenticAndrew

DT, this blog's claim is that Dori is upset *IRL*. Otherwise your theory has merit.

AuthenticAndrew

I'm a little surpised there's a sizable number of AA investors who also support Hillary because obviously AA and Obama are staples of the far left. Hillary is and always has been positioning herself center-left.

Duffman

Dittos PUTS!

AuthenticAndrew

OT: this new paging scheme realy blows goats. Now when you click the most recent comment you aren't taken to that page if it on a second or third page.

chucks

I agree with you on Duff, Putz. 'bout the only thing he bugs me over is gumment health care. Our best chance for health care is to pay for it. Gumment bureaucrats rationing out our medical care is just plain wrong.
Can you imagine the feds having record of every Dr visit you have through life. You think the smoking police are bad, wait until you are denied crucial care because you are over the gumment prescribed weight by 8 1/2 lbs.
We give those people too goddamn much power over us already.
I gotta start listening to KIRO again. It can't be as bad as I remember if it is doing that good of a job bugging the pergressives.

pthom

For example, Democrat Sec of Transportation Doug McDonald goes on liberal and conservative talk shows to explain what is happening with State Transportation issues.

...uh...PugetSound...try to keep up. Doug MacDonald (note the spelling) has not been Sec of Trans for many months now....

PugetSound

Your right pthom.
I should have put 'former' but the point remains salient. He was willing to go on Radio Shows albeit conservative or liberal and discuss his performance.
I find that commendable, don't you?

Hey Chucks, if Randi had been dissing First Lady Bush do you think she would have gotten in as much trouble, Hell, she use to tell assassination jokes about the President and get away with it. Call Hillary a bad name and Whamo!

bimpy

Yes Dori is a great broadcaster and a talk radio genius. His outrage and civic nobility is his schtick. He's doing a great job at what his job is supposed to be -- get all you suckers riled up so you'll listen to his show and the sponsors will get their bang for the buck. He's a fake, an entertainer and a good one. Does he stand by the principles he so loudly proclaims? Probably not, from what I hear, he's sincere about sports, and his family, and that's about all.

Duffman

"MAIN PAGE LOADED 590,943,577 TIMES... TOPS MARCH 2007'S 425,371,511... TOPS MARCH 2006'S 287,443,312 "

from Drudge page. Sort of like the Dori Monson phenomenon...no one admits to listening to him or reading Drudge....BUT....??? Too funny!

nevets

Duff, do you think this is what Obama meant when he said he didn't "want his daughter to be punished with a baby?"

Duffman

Yeah steven sounds like he might be backwards on the two words 'puhished' and 'blessed'.
My mother was so 'punished'...and yeah I know what that makes me...and I'm proud of it.

AuthenticAndrew

I was touring KIRO studios in the late 90's while in high school and we came across JP Patches in a hall way, so we stopped and the KIRO guy said "it's JP Patches!" and I looked at the guy blank because I had no idea who that was. They said something like "he must be too young." I feel a little bad about that.

Gay Gary

Hey, has everyone been listening to Frank Shiers this week? I've been critical of FS in the past but he has done a BANG-UP job this week. He did totally steal one topic + analysis today from Kirby & Kompany but I guess it's one of those "if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it" things so I'm guessing I was probably the only one to notice. Also, what an awesome guest lineup too! I'm guessing that was Phil but FS does a fairly decent interview. His extemporaneous speaking leaves a bit to be desired to his interview technique is pretty decent, IMO.

Also, big news, Oculus Bleu and I are getting a time share dog! Our Saluki, Big Bo Bop, has seemed lonely lately but we haven't wanted to commit to another full-time canine but we just found this great new service a friend uses called FlexPetz - flexpetz.com. No location in Seattle yet but they've been willing to work to match us up with additional time-sharers in the area so we don't have to wait for a local location to open. We're hoping to rent a Borzoi but it will depend on what the others want and what they can find available.

John

As an illustration of how nuts Dori is... He drives a Jaguar, (probably the worst car made, now owned by Tata, East Indian car manufacturer) AND has air conditioning in his home, IT'S SEATTLE for gods sake.

Gay Gary

Sweet God, I officially stopped listening to Ron & Don today and am now going with the Commentators. It was really a neat novelty show for awhile but it’s basically the same shtick day after day now. I’ve never listened to anything so formulaic.

Hour 1 – Ron: “I was out on the farm with the cowgirl and Jane Shannon” – Don: “No one wants to hear about it – COME ON!” – Katie: “I think …” – Don: “Get off the microphone, Katie!” Ron: “Jibber jabber jibber jabber, you have such an awesome physique, Don, jibber jabber jibber jabber …” Don: “Ron and I have been friends since childhood – what do you think about that Sean?” Sean: “Right on.” Don: “Let’s go to check the cars and then check-in with Big T.”

Hour 2 –
Monday/Wednesday – Topic: Barrack Obama
Tuesday/Thursday – Topic: MV Alaska Ranger
Friday – Topic: STUMP RON’S MOM!!!

Hour 3 –
Don: “Let’s check in with Miss Gibbs down in N’awlins.” Miss Gibbs: “Sweet potato’ pie!” Don: “Miss Gibbs, you better make me some kool-aid and a daiquiri, how do you like your new house?” Miss Gibbs: “Sweet potato’ pie!” Ron: “Hey, here’s some news from tmz.com.” Don: BUZZER / STOP THE SHOW SOUND EFFECT followed by comedic silence Ron: “Amco Transmissions is giving $250 to Mary from Mukilteo who runs a cemetery for opossums.” Miss Gibbs: “Sweet potato’ pie!” Don: “Let’s check the cars.” Ron: “I’ve lost 9 pounds in Don’s spin class!” Don: “Keep your heads up and your shoulders back!” END OF SHOW

Dori is a cry baby.

Lets face it folks, Dori suck AND blows. He is such a whiney bastard! Wah wah wah, why wont the big politicians come on my show". You big baby, no one wants to associate with a whiner!

Dori is better off being an ad hore for KIRO selling everything from gutter guards to hair removal creams.

GET THE F OFF THE AIR DORI. PPL, STOP LISTENING TO THIS ASS CLOWN. HIS F-ING RATINGS WILL TANK AND THOSE BLOW HARDS AT KIRO WILL PULL DORI'S SORRY ASS OFF THE AIR! WHILE YOU ARE AT IT SEATTLE, STOP LISTENING TO THOSE MORONS RON AND DON!

PULL THEM OFF KIRO! AND PULL YOUR SICK AND DISEASED HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS WHILE YOU ARE AT IT. PULL THESE ASS CLOWNS OFF THE AIR! YOU MIGHT HAVE A CHANCE OF BEING A DECENT RADIO STATION IF YOU DO!

back to Dori...

He's a putz. Annoys the hell outta me.
He's like the geek in high school who's only hope of being popular is to mock others.

God help the spawn of this sick little bastard.

Hello! This is the Dori Monson show and we'd like to talk to Senator....'click'.....damn that must be annoying!

William J Harrison

Next to Boston's Howie Carr show on WRKO.com(with its chump line, and stories of the latest police blotter reports featuring news of the latest hapless illegal aliens being arrested for apparently doing the crimes that Americans just won't do anymore), Dori Monson is the funniest and most all around entertaining 'angry white man' on radio. By contrast Kirby Wilbur's KVI show is the driest, most piously gastly hayseed of a morning drive time show I have ever had the misfortune to sample. Shouldn't you have to have a personality to host a radio show?

Duffman

Nope! Just need to be a political hack for the Republican Party!

Duffman

Gee the drive runs March 29 - April 27, 2008; think he still might have time?

Duffman

..and of course he couldn't /wouldn't be there on his own time or give in some other fashion or way that you may not be familar with? Possible?...or is this just put him down irregardless, without facts.

DT

Betcha anything Monson donates more time and money to causes than Amy Alpine.

Duffman

Wouldn't surprise me DT, but I wouldn't want to speculate what AA gives without having the facts.
Notice the Clinton's gave a pretty fair amount to charity in the last few years since leaving office. They apparently 'walk the talk'.
