Yeah, yeah, it's really important that Governor Eliot Spitzer face the music for seeing $1000 an hour hookers. Besides, Democratic sex scandals are hard to come by, we should make the best out of it.
(Spitzer's obviously a big-spending liberal -- his pricey peckerdilloes make Sen. Larry Craig's gratis sex in public bathrooms look prudent and fiscally responsible).
But Lori Price at Citizens for Legitimate Government points out that while we were breathlessly parsing Spitzer's genitalian comings and goings, a huge load of bad news for the administration went unnoticed.
(We're having a bad day, Mr. President -- time to pull out Spitzer's dick...)
Here's what else was in the news Monday (followed by what we were actually reading:
~~ The Iraq War will top 3 trillion dollars.
(Lewis said that from what she had been told of Spitzer, "He would ask you to do things that, like, you might not think were safe - I mean ... very basic things." Kristen responded: "I have a way of dealing with that. I'd be like, 'Listen, dude, you really want the sex?' You know what I mean?")
~~ The bloodiest day for U.S. forces in Iraq in eight months, eight soldiers died Monday in a recent up-tick in high profile bombings. An Iraqi tribal leader - the head of an 'Awakening Council' - and three others were killed in a Diyala province suicide bombing.
(Two law enforcement officials say that safety considerations mentioned in the affidavit related to Spitzer's preference to not wear a condom and insistence by the prostitute named Kristen that he wear one).
~~ U.S. stocks fell for a fifth time in six days.
("One hotel worker recalled Spitzer's stay but didn't see any girls with him").
~~ Bush vetoed the anti-torture bill; CIA torture will continue.
(... during his "apology," his wife wore almost the same outfit that [New Jersey Gov. Jim] McGreevy's wife did during his "Gay American" speech. Is a powder blue suit with white shirt and pearls the uniform for disgraced political wives? Are you fitted for it as soon as your husband reached some political threshold?"
~~ The House Judiciary Committee filed suit to force two White House officials to provide information about the firing of U.S. attorneys.
(A top NY State Republican is threatening to push for impeachment proceedings if the governor doesn't step down in 48 hours.)
~~ Oil has soared to $108 per barrel, gas prices to a new record high.
(Sources tell The Post that Spitzer had frequented high-priced hookers as far back as 2002 and possibly earlier).
~~ Former Pentagon official Doug Feith, the dim neocon architect of the spectacularly inadequate and corrupt post-war planning has written a book attacking Bush, the CIA, Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powell, Paul Bremer, George Tenet, and other US officials. General Tommy Franks (who has called Feith "the dumbest motherfucker on the face of the earth").
~~ an AP investigation revealed a vast array of pharmaceuticals in the water supply.
("With the incredible liaison, Spitzer continued a grand Democratic Party sex-scandal tradition by carrying on with a prostitute at the opulent Mayflower Hotel -- which bills itself as "Washington's Second Best Address" after the White House").
Nothing to see here-move along..
Posted by: Rick | March 11, 2008 at 04:30 PM
so what has the democratically controlled congress been doing to fix any of the above mentioned?
Turn off the iraq money tap? nope.
Lower the speed limit back down to 55 to save gas? nope.
I guess they are too busy with steroids.

Anyone want to comment on Geraldine Ferraro's comments about Obama essentially being an affirmative action candidate?
Howard Fineman observed that he was covering the Congress of Tip O'Neal back in the early 80's and that the main reason Geraldine was in the House Leadership was the fact that SHE was an affirmative action pick by Tip.
And isn't that comment of Ferraro worse than what Suzanne Rice said in calling Hillary a monster. Rice got canned.
Some more bad blood between the Dems. Meanwhile, McCain must be keeping a smile while he gets tanned, rested, and ready.
Posted by: PugetSound | March 11, 2008 at 05:55 PM
How do you tan and rest a cadaver?
Posted by: coiler | March 11, 2008 at 06:32 PM
This wasn't Geraldine's first foray into racist speech:
April 15, 1988, Washington Post:
And former representative Geraldine A. Ferraro (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that because of his "radical" views, "if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn't be in the race."
Asked about this at a campaign stop in Buffalo, Jackson at first seemed ready to pounce fiercely on his critics. But then he stopped, took a breath, and said quietly, "Millions of Americans have a point of view different from" Ferraro's.
Hillary should ask her to stop speaking on her behalf. Afterall, she didn't like it when one of Barack's people called her a "monster."

The news about Governor Spitzer brings up a very important question:
Would you rather have one $5,000 prostitute, OR five $1,000 prostitutes?
Think about it.
Posted by: fred owens at frog hospital | March 11, 2008 at 08:33 PM
Ferraro's comment was merely a surrogate attack for Hillary Clinton, who will do anything it takes to win, including blackmailing the superdelegates - if that is what it gets down to. She said that she prayed for Elliot Spitzer, but did not mention his family - real nice...
Contrary to Duffman, who I agree about a number of other things - Obama has more decency in his little finger than the Clintons have in their entire being - regardless of the outcome of the General election, I am pulling for Obama to hit back with his surrogates at the Clintons and win the Democrat nomination.

just like putsie to report the news and leave it to someone else to analyze it.
I think we've been here before with the Spitzer thing. For heavan's sake, men buy women - beautiful women - when they can afford it. So, what else is new?
We certainly are a hypocritical nation of witch hunters, aren't we?
Nobody seems concerned that the FBI was wiretapping a prostitution ring. Not how I want my money spent. Legalize it and let adults be adults. Unfortunately, Uncle Sam "pointedly" admonished, "We want you!" (or something like that...) and he'll get you no matter what. Especially if it involves peeking... now that's a gig I bet a lot of you would like.

This morning,Limbaugh, old PPA, or Permanently Peurile Ass, launched his new yukyuk parody song for his drooling, dumbed down dittoheads, Ebony and Ovaries, about guess who and who, and then went into a tirade against Spitzer. He seemed to take this latest revelation about Spitzer as proof that his Wall Street prosecutions were bogus. He told a story about a rich, fat cat golfing buddy who came speeding up to him in his cart on the golf course asking for a good lawyer reccomendation, because he'd just learned that Spitzer was after him. Limbaugh talked like it was just a given that Spitzer was simply harrassing his buddy out of spite, when in reality the fatass talkhost has no way of knowing at all whether his friend was a big fat crook or not. I'd say most of the Wall Street boys he went after deserved it.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer website has a breaking news story from the Associated Press: "NY governor linked to prostitution ring"
The New York Times is reporting that Gov. Eliot Spitzer has told senior advisers that he had been involved in a prostitution ring.
Hmm. I wonder which party Gov. Spitzer belongs to. It isn't until the 8th paragraph that the article alludes to either of the major parties:
... a plot by his aides to smear Spitzer's main Republican nemesis...
Is that an interparty or intraparty nemesis? Not entirely clear. But because the article does not contain the word "Democrat", the only logical conclusion is that Spitzer is in fact a Democrat.
Posted by: Stefan Sharkansky | March 12, 2008 at 01:48 AM
I think we're missing the point. What exactly does $1000 an hour buy?
Posted by: Fat Thom | March 12, 2008 at 03:48 AM
Stefan makes a good point. I don't trust the Seattle Times or PI any further than I could throw a sofa with Greg Nickels and Bernie Ward sitting on it.
Here's a case where I actually agree with www. We do not need the FBI going after hookers and johns. This should have been a matter between Spitzer and wife.
Writer James Bovard related how "As planes were smashing into the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, ten FBI agents were working a prostitution investigation in New Orleans. After a year's work and more than five thousand tapped calls, the FBI proudly announced the indictment of a dozen hookers and madams....law professor Jonathon Turley quipped, 'Only the FBI could go to the French Quarter and find only a dozen prostitutes after a year of investigation.'" (p.57, 'Terrorism and Tyranny').
Still, it is delicious to watch the twisting & squirming of those who virtually tripped over their own feet in their haste to pillory Larry Craig.
Posted by: wutitiz | March 12, 2008 at 04:20 AM
Wonderfully progressive Seattle City atty Tom Carr recently sought passage of a new state law that would allow SPD to confiscate the vehicles of suspected johns and prostitutes.
'The city isn't looking to make money,' said an aide to Carr. Which means of course, the city is looking to make money. They want to make it without having to legalize and tax prostitution, which of course would meet with howls from their buddies at SPD Vice.
Horray for progressivism.

With all due respect to you KS I can understand how/why you feel this way and I feel it's because of the way Mrs Clinton has been 'painted' by the MSM (and especially the -right). She has learned well the ways of political survival and she has developed skills that are practiced every day by astute politicians but when 'she' exercises those skills they get focused on and magnified and distorted in a negative way. Mrs Clinton understands what it will take to get past the 'men only' sign on the White House door, this is history in the making and the one who 'goes first' into these annals of history always endures the wrath of critics to the nth degree. When she becomes POTUS I think we will see her true character, compassion and warmth come through, but presently she's in a fierce battle using tools that are customarily used by 'good 'ol boys' all the time and quite frankly 'they' don't like it so they try to quash her. She sticks to her plan persistantly knowing full well that she is blazing a new frontier trail in this Country and one that is full of obstacles. She in my mind, is a 'genuine pioneer' indeed! I guess it's obvious: I just like her. :)
Not that Sen Obama couldn't or isn't doing the same to a degree, but I just prefer Mrs Clinton at this point in time.
Posted by: Duffman | March 12, 2008 at 05:29 AM
If he, Gov Spitzer, broke the law, he deserves what he gets. Prostitution alone...give me a break...it's part and parcel of our political system. Morally?...not for me, but WHO knows what kind of a relationship he and his wife had; may be this was known and tolerated for the benefit of the family?...and or may be it was mutual? [My wife w/be hard-pressed to 'stand-by-my-side' at a time like that if it was a revelation to her?]. So, I shan't discount him for 'getting some strange stuff' (so to speak)...as to breaking the law -well, he has to face that to the best of his (or his attorney's) ability. :)

Nice to see the liberal bashing in full swing! Its almost like you can hear "conservatives" exclaiming "finally we got one!"
See Spitzer is going to resign, he actually seems to be getting held accountable for his actions. Unlike say...some diaper loving Senator.
Reality check for our gleefully ignorant right wing nuts. Recall Mark Foley? Recall the cover up by Republicans? Larry Craig and the circling wagons? We even see Wzzz sitting here still defending Craig.
And in all of this all you guys can do is attack newspapers for not proclaiming "Democratic Liberal and probable communist" in the first two sentences. I bet the right holds all media to the same standard...wait no.

last Night Bill O'Reilly has never been more of a pompous ass, both on tv and radio. He's really got a bee up his butt about Spitzer being actually self-destructive underneath his facade and that's the ONLY reason he did this, to destroy his career. He had a couple of mental health professionals , a shrink named Robbie Ludwig and another woman on his tv show. Ludwig who seems to be about the best of these types disagreed and felt spitzer was probably arrogant enough To think he could get away with it. "Magical thinking" caused by his sense of allpowerfullness was one thing she mentioned. OReilly immediately diputed her with a comtemptuos sneer and guffaw, saying how could he possibly think he could get away with it? She countered that apparently according to the news he'd been doing this a long time and getting away with it. It's true- news reports have claimed he's been doing this from 8 to 10 years. OReilly , trapped in the argument by a colleague with superior logic and knowledge, retreated with a dismissive "we don;t know that!". Ludwig tried to explain to the bricklike fathead OReilly that someone could be self-hating/destructive and arrogant/narcissistic at the same time but Bill WOUld HAVE NONE OF IT and continued to ride his hobby horse about Spitzer secretly wanting to destroy his career. Why does he have experts on his show when he thinks he knows more than they do anyway? what an ass.
Posted by: Tommy008 | March 12, 2008 at 08:43 AM
Spitzer is speaking his resignation speech- no humility, emotion, no sorrow in his voice no humanness, rattatatat machine gun delivery. what a repulsive freak. An atomaton. A robot. he's sorry he got caught. that's all
Posted by: Tommy008 | March 12, 2008 at 08:51 AM
His wife probably doesn't put out, they probably stay together for the the kids. I doubt he has cuase to be sympathetic, and why would anyone expect sympathy from a person upon their being caught? If he was realy sympathetic he wouldn't have done this for some eight years or however long it was. In his mind he was thinking, "yay, now I can spend a lot more time with prostitutes"!

Say what you will, it's all good. We really needed this. It will only last a week or so, but we all needed a break from the POTUS campaigns.
At the hint of somebody above, I just listened to the new Rush parody. It was funny. Nothing more, just a little cheesy political humor.
I did notice last night when watching KING 5 news at 10:00 that the news reader covered the story and never id'd Spitzer as a democrat, but followed up with a story on Craig and immediately id'd him as a republican. Oversight? Maybe, but I doubt it.
That was funny wutitiz, ten FBI agents and a year long investigation to find a dozen prostitutes in the French Quarter.

On a side note I'm realy disappointed that the national media is so desperate to portray this as a horserace that they NEVER EVER mentioned from what I saw that Obama was expected to win Mississippi all along, in order to create the illusion of a competition. Mississippi doesn't even have very many delegates anyway, and it's not a winner take all state. He has done well in the south and with blacks, not so well in bigger states. The outcome isn't surprising or even all that important.
Then Drudge does the same thing but on the other side saying "He Wins Again" below a picture of Clinton looking frazzled, a happenstance pose between unrelated expressions, making it apear as if she's disapointed, when obviously this loss didn't come as a sursprise to anyone.
Posted by: AuthenticAndrew | March 12, 2008 at 10:08 AM
Joanie sez (re my comment about people who rushed to pillory Larry Craig):
"You talking about the guy who said of Clinton he's a nasty, naughty boy? You talkin' about that Craig? Mr. Morality himself? The first Puritan of Idaho?"
No, I really said nothing about Craig. My point was about those who rushed to pillory Craig, but have a completely different reaction to the Spitzer case. Note that I actually somewhat defended Spitzer when I said that this should have been a family matter, not a federal case. I am consistent: I didn't jump with glee over Craig or over Spitzer. Many libs are not. They have a field day over Craig, complete with homophobic outbursts. No field day over, Spitzer, though.

Craig brought attention to himself when one of the first statements he blurted out, "I am not gay" as if being guilty of potty sex was less important. We all knew what he was doing there.
Posted by: Larry Craig Bathroom Attendant | March 12, 2008 at 11:35 AM
So, sparks - would you equate the Larry Craig situation with the Spitzer case?
Posted by: Duffman | March 12, 2008 at 11:38 AM
Conservatives showing their hypocrisy yet again and selective reading beside the point. Nobody had to rush to judge Craig...it was all in a police report and his guilty plea for goodness sake. Are you that unable to read or just a hypocrite Wzzz? I don't see any liberals defending him, I see them sad that he did this to himself. Face it: you're trying to invent an issue to indict liberals on because you know in your heart of hearts your politicians are so corrupt its breathtaking.
Just look at the celebration going on by the conservative posters here. You can see the angry white men virtually high-fiving.
Now that we liberals have disowned the guy and the media is still having a field day with the story, you have nothing else. Pretending like somehow the media was harsher with Craig is laughable and just shows how dishonest you guys have become. They will be all over this for a week at least.
Of course, the difference is you guys try and excuse and cover up this kind of stuff for political reasons. Your hypocrisy is the stuff of psychological legend.

This whole thing is BS. The biggest disappointment from this whole affair is to find that a $5k per hour whore has no standards. If a man is going to shell out that kind of money to snort blow of the ass of some young hard body, he at least has to be able to trust that she has not been with some lib dim guvnor from New York. Where is the outrage?
That bimbo is going to be lucky to make $10.00 tricks at the Ellensburg Flying J truck stop after that outrageous behavior.
Posted by: chucks | March 12, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Let me throw this into the mix. Spitzer was more of a Republican in that he was elected on Law and order and family values. This scandal reminds me of the Jim West Scandal in Spokane. West railed against Gay rights while secretly engaging the gay lifestyle.
Bush is still a crook though.

"Nobody had to rush to judge Craig...it was all in a police report and his guilty plea for goodness sake. Are you that unable to read or just a hypocrite Wzzz? "--CPP3.
I apparently am able to read better than you, ccp3. Again, I made no comment on Craig, just on the moonbats who had a field day with their lame attempts at comedy, e.g. Larry's bathroom attendant (well, actually that was pretty funny). But the police report etc. is utterly irrelevant to anything I said.
"I don't see any liberals defending him, I see them sad that he did this to himself."--CPP3
Liberals may or may not be defending him, but they are certainly not reacting with the same glee, and they are spending more time calling conservatives hypocrites, etc. than denouncing Spitzer.
"Just look at the celebration going on by the conservative posters here. You can see the angry white men virtually high-fiving."--CPP3
Give me one example of that on this thread (and include how you know they're white (spycams, AWM-dar?)).
"Pretending like somehow the media was harsher with Craig is laughable...."--CPP3
I did not say that the "media" was harsher, just that they were downplaying the party affiliation, as Shark pointed out. What I said was that the moonbats were harsher.

Abob--that's a good one--that is awesome. If I were Martha, I would dance a jig on my own show (as far as I know she still has one). Martha was railroaded--they couldn't convict her of insider training, so they trumped up a 'lying to investigators' charge and jailed her anyway.
Now that is a news snippet I would hi-five over.

I love how a Governor is forced to resign over a $5000 prostitute, but a President can send nearly 4000 Americans and an estimated 100,000 plus Iraqis to their early graves, while squandering $1,000,000,000 using weak or fabricated intelligence, and nothing is done. What's wrong with that picture?
