« Talk radio: more than a dial tone | Main | Introducing... KIRO's new website! »

January 28, 2008

Yeah... Gary Ryan, Fred Ebert, and Mike Seigel...That's a stellar line-up. If they could get David Boze away from KTTH and pick up Alan Prell, it would be a talk radio dynamo! (gag)

I'd say that they win and KIRO loses.. Fred Ebert is a Republican and back in 2002 - he was showing Bush to be a disaster/ he ahead of his time - if only I knew then what I know now. Seems like he had the wisdom going, even though he came across as sometimes with an air of superiority.

Siegel drones on too much at times, but can be good on State politics and Gary Ryan - another Bush naysayer back in 2002-03 who is conservative and showed the wisdom. All in all, these guys are all way better on what KIRO has now. Talk radio doesn't have to be all about politics- that gets boring/all talk stations need variety. Throw in some comedy, apolitical talk about health, the environment and financial insights and they would capture a larger audience.

Siegel always manages to survive, no matter how many gargantuan mistakes he makes on live radio. From his ridiculous and false accusations about Norm Rice that got him fired from KVI (you have to really work to get fired from KVI!) to his disastrous Coast to Coast tenure (he even managed to drive away Richard Hoagland. Richard Hoagland!), Siegel will always scratch the bottom of the barrel.

And in talk radio, the bottom is quite deep.

Who needs welfare when you can rely on talk radio?

One more thing regarding the comment above that Siegel "can be good on state politics", someone should ask the folks in Marysville if that's the case.

Siegel managed to take a solid Republican school district run by Linda Whitehead, and drive a wedge between the striking teachers and the district deeper than anyone could imagine. It wrecked the school year and literally drove some folks to sell their houses and leave Marysville altogether.

Siegel specifically sought to demonize the teachers union in that district and figured with a solid conservative city, it should be a piece of cake!

And what happened after Siegel even engineered local town meetings and daily rants against the teachers union? The parents turned on Linda Whitehead, threw her out, embraced the teachers union, and now won't give Siegel the time of day.

Man, with conservative talk radio hosts like that, who needs Air America?

I agree Cliff, listened to him for a bit and thought he was a bit wacko. He pal'd around with some guru (can't remember his name) who thought he had all the answers - they'd put on seminars. It was the biggest bunch of BS I ever saw.
I was listening to KVI when he went on the tirad about our mayor and could see that coming.

Ryan ought to fit right into Alan Gottlieb's far right station: After he read on the air an inflamatory list citing violence against protesters that had been flying around the net, (http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/2003_03_30_dneiwert_archive.html#200078932) Orcinus' Dave Neiwert wrote KIRO:

"This host was Gary Ryan of KIRO AM, who I unsuccessfully attempted to contact about the broadcast. However, Ryan's station manager did respond to my queries:
Thank you for your concern regarding a statement talk show host, Gary Ryan made during his Sunday, March 23rd afternoon program in regards to actions toward war protestors.
Gary's statement was intended to use sarcasm to form a comparison between the attacks of September 11th, and a theoretical action taken against a protestor. In both cases innocent people were, or would be, victims of violence. He was NOT, however, advocating the assault of a demonstrator.
Mr. Ryan could be accused of poor judgement in his choice of words. However, he was merely presenting a "what if" scenario to make the point why would striking a protester be any different from two planes hitting the Twin Towers. Also please be reminded that opinions expressed by our talk show hosts do not necessarily reflect the views of Newsradio 710.
Finally we have talked to Mr. Ryan about his comments, and believe there will be no further controversies along this line. Thank you for you concern about this matter. We hope you continue to listen to Newsradio 710 KIRO."

He's just as sleazy as Mike Siegel. I used to know Conn, and I do congratulate him at least for getting some people who have recognizable names on those stations. I am sure he has no choice of getting anyone more moderate when he's working for Gottlieb who is a wealthy right-wing extremist and gun-nut who has served time in federal prison.

Yeah, Alan Gottlieb served time for felony income tax evasion over 20 years ago. He cheated the gov't out of $17,000. The gov't should be locked up for cheating all of us workers out of billions.

It's just like the Martha Stewart case. She was convicted for lying to the gov't when the gov't is the biggest liar of them all.

And, 'saber tooth liberal' (hmm predatory lib, isn't that a redundancy?) whatever happened to the concept of 'pay your debt to society, and move on.'

Glen Collins

I listen to conservative talk radio quite often and I've just got to say that Gary Ryan is my favorite talk show host.

How sad! :)
