"This has got Dori's fingerprints all over it," says one KIRO-ite.
"It stinks," writes another. "He finally won."
The post-massacre KIRO weekend skedge is out and wonder of wonders: The Angel of Death passed over Phil, the news junkie's door! Besides the gardening Cisco and the cookin' Tom Douglas, the only local talk show left on the weekend is The News Junkie, the little show that does no harm, has neither listeners, nor point of view; but does have the tremendous advantage of being hosted by Phil Vandevort, the longtime producer for conservative Dori Monson, the self-proclaimed "King of Seattle Talk Radio."
David Goldstein, Bryan Styble, and Carl Jeffers and the support hours that go with them were eliminated Wednesday.
The Dori Monson Clause that retained Phil kinda blows a hole in the out-of-their-hands, "budgetary concerns" explanation they gave for laying off all these people.
It kinda blows...
"Dori has been after Goldy's hide for a year," says a newsie; "He's pushes his weight around, always has -- I don't know whether he got Goldy fired, but for sure if Phil's $300 a week job was saved, Dori was behind it."
Dori (whose name is a girl's name) stopped speaking or acknowledging Goldy's presence a few months ago.
KIRO staffers agree: Dori can be a real prick. "All this reminds me of the bad old Entercom days when you felt like you had to kiss his ass to keep your job."
This means a big loss of employment for the horrifically underpaid Board ops too. That's probably the reason Dustin Hornby walked. We'll be interested in hearing more about that.
It's only weekends, we know. But KIRO's closing them down for fledgling local talent is the end of an era. There is effectively no way for a talk host in this town to get started.
We'll probably pass on The Mutual Fund Show, and we can only listen to Bob Brinker once a week.
But take it from us: NPR is where it's at on weekends: in case you haven't already been driven away from KIRO. check out the weekend fare on KUOW.
Here's the Saturday line-up (except they don't say who will be in the former Carl Jeffers spot at 10p or on the overnight -- can't wait to find out!):
6am – 9am KIRO Morning News
9am- 10am The Mutual Fund Show
10am – 1pm In the Garden w/Cisco Morris
1pm to 4pm Bob Brinker Show
4pm-7pm In the Kitchen w/Tom Douglas
7pm-10pm Best of TBTL
Doesn't get much more exciting on Sunday:
6am -9am KIRO Morning News
9am- 10am Meet the Press
10am- 1pm Handel on the Law
1pm- 4pm Bob Brinker Show
4pm-7pm The News Junkie
7pm-8pm CBS News Weekend Round-up
8pm-9pm Meet the Press (Repeat)
9pm-Midnite Leo LaPorte – The Tech Guy
Midnite to 4am Bob Brinker (Repeat)
Well, the KIRO GM has a budget and he fires some of the people to save money, he comes in under budget after getting syndicated shows that probably dont' charge much for a new station and he gets a bonus for ending up under budget... After all the GM must have a fetish for listening to shows (Phil Hendrie) talking about women's menstrual flow
I know my friend will be listening to Bryan on KFI via the 'net now that shes off at nite.. So Bryan will have ratings still in Seattle!

Dori
Have you seen any thing about this. Another picking of the pockets of people who work. What a bunch of thieve's
Please Call Your State Representative.
There is a bill that the Washington State Legislature is trying to pass
in Olympia that, if successful, will directly add huge costs to our
vehicle license fees. Everyone needs to know about so this situation so
that you can contact your representatives and voice your objection.
The bill is SB 6900 and it adds an "engine displacement" fee to the
vehicle license tabs upon renewal.
The fee has a varied amount depending on the size of the vehicle's engine:
Engine Size (liters) Rate Schedule
Up to 1.9 $0
2.0 - 2.9 $70
3.0 - 3.9 $225< BR> 4.0 - 4.9 $275
5.0 - 5.9 $325
6.0 - 7.9 $400
8.0 or over $600
For each car & truck that you own, calculate the rate by matching the
engine size in liters to the dollar amount. Add the amounts for each
vehicle and you'll see that the average two car family will be paying
$500+ every year in "displacement fees" on top of the normal license
fees. If you have three vehicles, you'll be paying even more.
The average family is already struggling with the high cost of gasoline,
electricity, food and everything else, and our lawmakers want us to pay
more, thinking we have unlimited deep pockets. This will do great damage
to the budgets of retirees on fixed incomes as well.
Now is the time to be very vocal against this bill.
I have contacted all of our representatives, and I would encourage
everyone reading this to do the same.
Here's the web page for the bill where you can read the text:
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=6900&year=2007
Here's the link for contacting your representatives:
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/Default.aspx
If we don't threaten mass rebellion over this, they'll pass this bill
and we'll be paying huge fees every year on top of their increase in the
gas tax. They have to know that we won't stand for any more taxes or
increase in licensing fees.
I've told my representatives that I will actively work to see that any
lawmaker that supports this bill is replaced at election time.
Please contact your legislators, then copy the text of this email, and
forward it to as many people a s possible that you know in Washington
State, and encourage them to contact their representatives and strongly
voice their objection to this bill.

Thanks Mr Duffy
That amounts to about $1800.00 in additional taxes for my family in any given year just for the old car collection.
I will fight it as best I can, but will get a fresh tube of KY gel just in case. With a $6 billion to $8 billion defficit looking the state in the eye, you know we are going to lose.

Hey, what the hell, at least it is an old thread.

I feel sorry for those of you who hate on Dori just because he is not in the Overwhelming majority of left-wing Seattle. Personally, I am an Obama-Rossi voter and view Dori as a crucial component to getting a balanced view. Without views like his, we would have a virtually 100% right-wing talk radio climate... and what good is that? How are you going to make informed decisions based on the views of those with whom you already agree with due to the political party they belong to. SIDE NOTE: Your attempt at legit journalism... or blogging... or whatever you try to pass this off as is really kinda pathetic. All anonymous sources, all rumor-based... and maybe, just maybe all contrived from the author's own brain??

Bonneville is owned by LDS seditionist predatory corporate Jesus slaves, that have zero in common with a true open-minded liberal educated market like Seattle.
Every Bonneville property should be boycotted and its advertisers notified that they will be boycotted.

I know I'm late on this but I stopped reading when the author said;
"Dori (whose name is a girl's name)"
At that point the author looses any credibility.
The truth is, Dori has a very popular show and it would be in KIRO's best interest to listen to both him and Mr. Ross.
