~ Welcome to Libby Denkmann who replaced Tina Nole as the Producer/Chief of Staff of the Dave Ross Show. (KIRO m-f, 9a-12p). Dave, we hear likes to form and shape producers in his image, which is not a bad thing. She's 22, just graduated from the UW with a degree in political science and international studies. She interned at the news desk then hired as Tina's associate producer then full time as her replacement. Factoid about Ms Denkmann: she interned for Patty Murray.
~Is there a Larry Craig defense fund we can support? Just because he's a Republican U.S. Senator and T-queen, doesn't mean he doesn't deserve his day- or months even- in court. We love it as liberals, and talk radio thrives on it despite the conservatives are eating their own.
~ we keep hearing that something big like birth, death infinity will be happening soon over at KVI. Plus: nobody's talking to us- always a sign something's up. There's a rumor going around talk shops in town that Fisher's making a country music station out of the legacy talker. We don't believe that, but let's face it, something's gotta happen, the station is so lame. Ratings are flat; not much seems to be working over there. The Commentators need the kind of juice gotten only if Carlson and Schram would disagree with some passion, and not sound like brothers-in-laws over a BBQ. Sean Hannity is so predictably partisan nobody's listening anymore. The droning Bryan Suits Show is dry as a popcorn fart and lost in the clot of talent and NPR news of the afternoon drive. Mark Levin is a squeaky little whiner. Only George Noory is bringing home the salumi for the station. Something's gotta give...
~ overly futzy talk radio topic of the week: Michael Medved's discussion of the public safety issues around the baggy-pants of the young. Freely letting your butt hang out of your pants is a precious First Amendment right, and don't ever let neocons like Medved take it away.
~ Frank Shiers is not a scab! We asked if he was, and it turns out he is not. Seems Frank got a job after a strike was settled at South Kitsap High School in January of 1982. "I never crossed a picket line. As a WEA member, I couldn't and wouldn't. I wasn't a scab."
~ Keith Olbermann had a staffer come out on the set during his show last week and yank on his hair with both hands. Why? because, he said, "there's some bald guy named Mark Levin who keeps insisting I wear a toupee." Questions we must ask: Isn't Levin (KVI m-f 6-8, and pronounced leh-VIN) too annoying to listen to without drinking alcohol first? Has anyone followed him into a public restroom?
~ Will Tony Snow come back to Fox Radio? Our DC guydoesn't think so. "Tony probably won't return to Fox anytime soon,' he writes, "and probably not to a regular radio talk show. There's a bunch of money to be made on the lecture circuit. If Ari Fleischer can get $50k a speech, Tony's good for double that, I would think."
~ Whoa Matt, who brought that up? After Drudge announced he's quitting the Sunday night radio program he's hosted since 1999, he told told NTS Aircheck, "This should not be taken as any indication that I feel radio is passé."
Ron Paul is nothing but a Libertarian crashing the Republican candidate pool. He's as out of place as he looks and sounds. Libertarianism sounds good over coffee but anyone who's read a history book knows their ideals have been tried in the past and we crushed under the weight and reality of human nature.

The only ones bitching about Paul are candidates and their supporters in his own party. Who is screwing the poll results Chuck, any source?
Posted by: coiler | September 06, 2007 at 11:10 AM
No Mr C to the source question.
Just as my friend duffman has been guided by, gut feeling and instinct.
And of course the only ones bitching are legitimate Republican candidates and their supporters. You folks are understandably laughing your butts off, just like we did when Ralphy helped us get rid of that pesky algore in 2000.

Andrew sez:
"Listening to radio hosts you disagree with is far more interesting than listening to ones you agree with. The contrarian host will state a thesis and then support the thesis with some evidence or reason, and if you disagree then it challenges your own conclusions and gives you something to think about.
Only cowards would go out of their way to avoid contrary points of view.
Posted by: Andrew"
Hey Andrew, just curious who do you listen to with a viewpoint contrarian to yours? You ever give Dennis Miller a look?
Posted by: PugetSound | September 06, 2007 at 07:23 PM
Andrew, I agree. In fact, I even like to take it a step further. I like to listen to music I can't stand because I think it's more interesting than listening to music I enjoy. And, I also like eating food that I hate for the same reason. I also buy ugly clothes for myself. It's more interesting that way. Then, I like bitching about how crappy everthing is to people on the internet, and how I think the manufacturers should stop making the things that I buy because they are so crappy.

Andrew -who doesn't want to be considered a 'coward' - also likes to lean into a stiff left hook, piss in the wind, and yell at his boss. :)
seriously, i agree that listening to people that you disagree with is good practice but i wouldn't want to go OCD on it.
OCD: obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Akin to Sparky's deal with correcting the 'spelling' on the message boards.

Frank is having one of his dumb and dumber shows with a psychic on answering questions. He keeps calling ths show "the S files". S? I don't get it. Does Frank actually think psychic starts with an S? Sychic? hahahaah Frank, you make Mike Webb look like Edward R. Murrow.
Posted by: Tommy008 | September 06, 2007 at 11:28 PM
PS, you need to read more closely. Not going out of one's way to avoid dissent is not OCD. It's not even kinda sorta close. OCD is you defending sleezebag conservative bloggers. Get some meds.
Poor Sam: you've likened political preference with clothing preference. Yes, you're a moron, through and through.
Posted by: Andrew | September 06, 2007 at 11:39 PM
This psychic crap on talkradio that Frank is pulling went out in the seventies or early eighties.
this is sad. KIRO is really going backwards with Shiers.

The whole episode seemed ridiculous and blown out of proportion to me. Pres Bush is a non-event lame-duck President who matters not at this point. We really are very close to having three (3) POTUS'es! Mrs Clinton, either Mitt Romney or Rudy and Pres Bush. This is simply a token gesture and will not IN ANY WAY affect attendance at 'Hawk games or cause any less fervor should they continue their winning ways. This town has a 'passion' for sports (especially football) and folks 'come together' to support 'their team' regardless of political peccadillos.
-----GO 'HAWKS!!!

Sorry Bla'M - that s/have been posted on the Angry Seahawks fans cause radio topic thread.

Lighten up Francis...I mean Andrew, I was just funnin you. In fact I was actually giving you some credit and then making an observation on not wanting to go OCD.
Yikes, I thought by now you had gotten over the whole waitress debacle.
Posted by: PugetSound | September 07, 2007 at 07:58 AM
Sir Andrew has masterfully managed to discount him/her self from any consideration of substance. I don't believe he will ever be taken seriously. But keep trying.
Posted by: Duffman | September 07, 2007 at 08:02 AM
Duff
shouldn't it read 'Boy Andrew' and not Sir Andrew?
Posted by: PugetSound | September 07, 2007 at 08:14 AM
Ha..indeed; I was giving him the benefit of the drought! ;o)
Posted by: Duffman | September 07, 2007 at 08:18 AM
Not a bad speech, Mr Edwards - I'll have to say: Edwards Speech
Posted by: Duffman | September 07, 2007 at 10:13 AM
PS, make no mistake, you had your ass handed to you. Being wrong isn't comedy last I checked.
Duff, if there were ever an arbiter of who gets taken seriously you be at the back of the line, behind lesser species. I'd sooner trust the judgement of a compost pile than trust yours.
Posted by: Andrew | September 07, 2007 at 10:28 AM
Why thank you boy andrew, coming from you I'd regard that as a compliment; try to have a really good life. Say hi to mommy, and do let us all know when you move out of her basement.
Posted by: Duffman | September 07, 2007 at 10:32 AM
Uh, wierdo, that's not me in any basement. Stop spying on boys in their basements you SICKO. I'm callin the cops on you bud.

Dear Andrew
Delusion is life's coping mechanism.
I am glad it helps you get through the day.

So after receiving a thorough intelectual beat down you fancy yourself a psychologist? They say people become psychologists to figure out what is wrong with themselves.
Posted by: Andrew | September 07, 2007 at 12:47 PM
so andrew why don't you give us your extensive list of shows that you listen to although you hate the host.
Posted by: PugetSound | September 07, 2007 at 01:15 PM
Moron: i said people shouldn't GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO AVOID CONTRARY POINTS OF VIEW, not that they should go out of their way to listen to them. I often don't bother to turn off the radio when KIRO switched from Ross to Monson, and I like to listen to Michael Savage every so often to here how he's packaging rabid conservativism with his special brand of hate.
Posted by: Andrew | September 07, 2007 at 01:55 PM
two examples of truly punkass behavior 1. Serena Williams sulking and making selfserving, unsportsmanlike excuses ("she had a lot of lucky shots",etc..") through her short press conference after being knocked out of the 2007 U.S. Open due to an asswhupping at the hands of Justine Henin. 2. Dori Monson, jealous of Mike Webb's funnier shows, much deeper, more professional voice, better diction, and superior onair presence, bringing tapes of some of Mike's more extreme radio moments to KIRO management in hopes of geting him fired.

"I couldn't believe it was the same person. You talked so lovingly about your daughter." Woman caller talking to Frank Shiers. Frank's constant prattling away about his daughter wouldn't be near as annoying if his loving tone in these speeches, wasn't in such stark contrast to the snotty, patronizing disdain and arrogance with which he talks to the average caller on his show.
Posted by: Tommy008 | September 11, 2007 at 10:34 PM
I should send Frank an Instant Message telling him his daughter sounds like a nice girl and that I hope that we have the pleasure of meeting.
Maybe that'll shut him up.
