The new magazine format show that was a bone of contention in the recent staff roilings at KUOW. will be heard 2-3p Monday. It replaces The Beat, which focused on the arts.
According to the KUOW website, Dave Beck, Megan Sukys and Jeannie Yandel will conduct "engaging interviews with local people who define the Northwest character. National guests join the conversation to share ideas that can change the way we look at life around the Puget Sound."
Today's features will be on Pulitzer Prize winner and former U.S. poet laureate Poet Ted Kooser; spiritual environmental author, Charlie Fisher; the indomitable Nancy Pearl; and consumerist photographer Chris Jordan.
This show is a departure from the interview/talk format of its predecessor, it's controversial at the station, and we'd be interested in what listeners think about it.
I listened. I napped. Boringggggg.
Back to Classical music until its time for Rachel Maddow.
If they booked that cute Mr. Schwetty who makes donut holes, I would listen.

I wondered why Writer's Almanac was playing at 12:30. I liked the Beat - I hope it doesn't suck.

A couple authors and a couple artists naval gazed over their stupid books and their stupid artwork while probably sipping on a little papercup of cooler water. NPR never has been interesting and if this is their idea of new, it never will be.

Hey wut'sup, are you Duff?
I didn't really like The Beat . . . I've never understood what's so great about Nancy Pearl and I'll try to listen just to give an honest critique but is it all that different?
Guess I should reserve judgment 'til I hear it.

I have a Nancy Pearl Action Figure

Nancy Pearl action figure is only good thing to come out of that show. Thank you Archie MacPhee.
How about a KUOW management team voodoo doll set? With BIG pins.

Jeannie Yandel needs to be behind the scenes where I am sure she was a good producer; she does not have the voice for radio, her questions are insipid, her responses even worse: "wow" "gee" "gosh"! All in that voice that is akin to nails on a chalk board-- does anyone else cringe when they hear her? Truly her poor reporting is the key; the voice makes bad reporting and rapport even worse!

I agree both shows are disappointments. And yes I DO cringe at the valley girl sounds of Jeannie Yandel. ("Wow! What was that like for you?!"). Dave Beck sounds like a complete stammering square and Megan Soukys is trying too hard to smile and talk at the same time. I think there are some good guests, but there could be so much more...
