Voice around town, Tami Kosch, KPTK news director since the station went to progressive talk has won the sought-after primary position at public radio's South Sound station KXOT, (KUOW2 in HD) operated by Seattle's KUOW.
The station is now broadcasting public radio from the satellites, but will soon have Tami doing news and cut-ins to the national feeds- and other programming as yet announced.
"Things are wide-open for change since things are so new." she says.
Sources have told us the station may be where local programmers might try out new public radio formats- such as The Bryant Park Project, a news cast now being piloted to be aired October 2 targetting the fickle 18-40 year old demo.
Kosch says she knows nothing about that, but she says, "The South end [of Puget Sound] is under served: certainly the people Olympia and Tacoma must feel that radio news is very Seattle-centric."
Her last day at KPTK will be Thursday: she taped her last Community Matters to be aired over the weekend. The interview show was her favorite part of the job at "Seattle's Progressive Talk."
Will KPTK ever get local talent? (we always ask that) We imagine Tami working in dark rooms surrounded by robots silently feeding on satellite fodder. "That was the hope. It does get a little lonely around here," she said wistfully.
She says she had a great relationship with CBS, particularly with GM Dave McDonald.
Besides KPTK ,Kosch has been around town since the mid 1990's at KMPS,
Metro Traffic, The Buzz, KPLU, KLSY, KIXI, and The Mountain.
"It's a change in my life- I'm getting older and and don't have to put up with the games of commercial radio.
I never listen to Tami or KPTK or any public radio, but all this seems very nice. As an aside, How bout them Hawks?
