LeeAnn

Sorry PugetSound...its out over the airwaves now. He said it. The people I'm listening to the show with heard it. Can't spin it away, but I know you will try.

LeeAnn

And you certainly seem to have an awful lot invested in Steffan's approval of you...why is that?

PugetSound

merci
the big question is did your source know that you were going to post it?

PugetSound

leann
it's about the children... :)

PugetSound

merci
how ironic that you have goldy and shark arguing about your story and the host coming up was none other than mr. styble. he stayed away from it like a hot potato(e) maybe he'll take an email...

Irene

LeeAnn - Stefan did not say that his wife went to the restaurant and asked the owner to fire her. He said that his wife called the restaurant owner to tell him what his waitress was writing about his customers. I am Stefan's wife. Steffany Bell gave false, malicious and over-the-top statements about my very young son to a blogger. I owed no duty of confidentiality to Steffany Bell. I had every right to notify the owner. I did not tell him what action to take. He was shocked and livid to find out what one of his waitresses was writing about the restaurant's customers -- not just my family but other families too. He said that he did not need to read her blog to know that disliked her job -- that had become obvious to him already and that he had other reasons to part ways anyway. What would you have done if you were that restaurant owner? I certainly had no power over him -- I believe he and Steffany came to a mutual agreement to separate. Do you really think Steffany was blameless? I was a single mom in the past -- being a single mom doesn't excuse malicious and unprofessional behavior. I do not apologize for defending my young child.

Irene

P.S. to PugetSound -- I have no idea who you are but thanks for batting for us.

PugetSound

please cue in the crickets while leann struggles to cope with a cogent argument.

PugetSound

Irene
Not a problem. A bit of an uphill slog on this blog but I 'get it' even if the others want to make partisan hay out of it. Tell your husband he did a nice job on Goldy's show.

LeeAnn

Come on, 'fess up Irene...you were listening in on the extension when your husband called in. I could hear you breathing!

PugetSound

uh lee-ann
uh professor, i guess the crickets are still chirping away.
he was on the RADIO. you heard of those haven't you?
so no reason to listen in on the extension.

Irene

LeeAnn - changing the subject? I was listening to the radio on another floor. Do you have any kids?

Andrew

Irene says "I had every right to notify the owner."

This is a typical game rich people and their retained lawyers play to destroy poor people who can't defend themselves: "I had the right..."

And you had the right to stop your child from running amok. You had the right to tip something decent. You had the right to do what the rest of us do to not win our way onto a waitress' shitlist.

But no, rather than change yourself, and they way you behave, you use all the power you have to change the world around you to accommodate to your faults.

PugetSound

andrew
nice 'attempt' at a class warfare argument. quick question, if the child was acting so out of line at this family restaurant why didn't the manager go over and ask the parents to calm the child down?
ps: i'll have to reread the constitution to see if any of those enumerated rights you refer to are incorporated therein.

Irene

Andrew - as I said, she made false, malicious and over-the-top statements. Do you work at the restaurant in question? I have a receipt from the first week in August - $10 tip on a $65 bill. Can you do math? This is a casual restaurant and we tip 15%. You have no idea what actually happened. You are just spewing forth hatred like Steffany did.

PugetSound

damn andrew, i just checked. looks like ol james madison overlooked those gems you listed.

Andrew

That's a great question. By all accounts, the manager should have been doing more to releive the stress these patrons were causing Steffany. Maybe he could have stopped this before it started. I have to call his performance into question.

PugetSound

Wow, so a 10 dollar tip on a $65 bill works out to a little over 15%. Just think, if it would have only taken $13 to give the magic 20%. Doesn't sound like such a horrible person. Especially at a casual place.
Now Andrew, you tell me. For 3 freakin bucks was it worth it to slam someone publicly on the internet?

PugetSound

Andrew
"Maybe he could have stopped this before it started. I have to call his performance into question."

how 'bout the source? any responsibility there?
for $3 freakin bucks. man, i hope you or i never cut her off in traffic. no telling what she'll do.

Andrew

It's your word against hers. It's true that Steffany talks a lot, and to a fault, but that doesn't mean she invents stories. I do know that you did something to piss her off in the first place, that much is certain.

You should probably stop responding to me, and us. You are public figures by your own choosing. If you're lucky there will soon be too many of us to handle, too many nay sayers to do battle with. Let the chips fall where they may. Or hire a publicist, they're pros.

PugetSound

Irene
I do have a queston. When I read Steffany's interview when she was asked to describe you the very first words out of her mouth was your race. Asian. Just a one word sentence. As if that was a be all end all descripter. It rubbed me the wrong way that your race would even be a factor. I don't want to be hypersensitive but as someone who has mixed race children I often wonder why it is the first thing that pops into someone's mind. I would have hoped that she would have described your actions/manner but not your race.

PugetSound

for $3 andrew? c'mon man.

nevets

D&D, A couple of days ago you got a boner just thinking about how much exposure this would bring you. This was going to be the big time for you. Better than getting slapped around by Webb in the courthouse trying to take his picture. Hell you were so excited you started talking in the first person. I think you need to get a golden rope where you can lasso it around your source to know if he/she is telling the truth. And speaking of mafia, where are the bullets.

A Bang

B Bang

C Bang

(I can't get the South Park episode out of my head where the kids were playing Junior detective and running into the house with their thumbs up and finger pointing out shouting bang, bang, bang. This fits D&D so perfectly)

PugetSound

Nevets that is LOL good stuff.
He's making Sharkansky out to be some John Gotti Mafia Kingpin with all this 'conservative' influence in Freemont for godsake.

Andrew

PS, why did you ask Irene a question aimed at Steffany? It almost seems as if you're, like, sucking up.

PugetSound

Stefan..ah wish ah could quit you..

PugetSound

hey Nevets
Did you catch the fact that this whole Tip kerfuffel element of the story is overr the waitress getting only a $10 and not a $13 tip?

PugetSound

"Stefan..ah wish ah could quit you..

Posted by: PugetSound | August 26, 2007 at 11:08 PM"

false postings, not nice. but not hard to do.

PugetSound

Andrew
Actually it was aimed at Irene, not Steffany.
So how about it, this whole lousy tip-gate is over $3 freakin bucks?

Andrew

PS, it wasn't over $3, I assure you. That you think so is a testament to your shallow perception.

PugetSound

Lets sum it up:

So the tip deal -per receipts- was over a disputed $3.
The behavior of the child was not such that the manager intervened.

Pretty much everyone can understand why a manager of a diner wouldn't appreciate a waitress that blogs negatively about the clientele.

AND the waitress has now disavowed what she originally said.

So who is still in disagreement about this? Andrew? Looks like your whole thing is falling apart. although tempting, i'll stay away from the fish metaphor :)

PugetSound

Andrew sez:
"PS, it wasn't over $3, I assure you. That you think so is a testament to your shallow perception."

okay, assure me what it was over. why did shark and family get the public lash? what was their high crime or misdemeanor? elucidate.

Stefan Sharkansky

Nate (Mercifurious): "The truth is that I was obligated to protect the safety and livelihood of my source."

My Nate, aren't you a hero NOT. What you did was post a defamatory story thinking it was anonymous, but provided enough information for me to determine the source. When I told you I had identified the source and asked you to take down the defamatory story and spare her and her colleagues from negative exposure, you defiantly refused to do so then fed it to Michael Hood to ensure that it would get broader exposure.

Some good friend and journalistic icon you are!

Andrew

You've pretty much laid out your weak hand right there.

Here's mine:

The Sharks pissed of a waitress, someway, somehow.

The waitress told a blogger, an account we can reasonably believe to be truthful as her dubious retraction was made under duress.

The Sharks were the party responsible for informing her employer, thus setting forth cause and effects resulting in her firing.

The Sharks attacked the waitress on their blog, the same blog in which they declare by default their intention to be public figures, and open to public scrutiny.

The Shark's attack on the waitress went beyond the waitress' claims to include an attack on the waitress character with revelations of her background, using their semi-popular blog, a special privilege afforded them through outside circumstances.

Their attack on her character was rather blatant, saying something to the effect, 'see for yourself if you take this person seriously after reading what else she has written about her own child.'

nevets

Puts, yes I did. What a shame for this lady to get stiffed by D&D. He should have thought about her livelyhood and safety and not about what a big hard-on he would get reading all the comments like he does when friends see him on his vespa. I thought there were a couple of inconsistencies in her story, and then the name, that I thought this was just a prank to rev up readership so that is why I kept quiet. I guess I was wrong. And watch out for Sparky, I got her to admit to lying to you on that "Bush Sr having breakfast with Obamas father while the towers were falling."
Got to get up early, Good night.

PugetSound

nevets, it's not easy to pin down ol sparky. i'll have to go back. should be a good LOL. mucho gracias.
at the very least, merci should print a retraction. that would be the gracious thing to do.

PugetSound

andrew
hey, i may be only holding a pair of 9's but it will beat your pair of 3's.

i agree that she was ticked. but why? it couldn't have been the tip and it looks like the kid wasn't that onery after all.

should someone who blogs negatively -it wasn't just shark it was also other people- about the clientele of a diner get canned? she listed the restaurant by name in her blog.
the attack on her character consisted of using the words that she put out on the internet -no expectation of privacy there- and using them to put the charges in context.

Andrew

PS says "at the very least, merci should print a retraction"

You're sick man. What are you getting out of this? At the very least you're defending people who'd royaly pissed off a waitress to a extreme that waranted sharing her story. Do you seriously think you're sticking up for the good guys here?

PugetSound

because i disagree with you on this i am sick?
maybe you should just take a step back and take off the politcal lense here. fair is fair. where is your spirit of fair play?

Andrew

PS says "the attack on her character consisted of using the words that she put out on the internet -no expectation of privacy there- and using them to put the charges in context."

Said quotes had no relevance to the issue. Nobody ever said how or why they were relevant, the implication was just "look! this lady is crazy!" more or less. That there's some sophistocated maneuvering on the Shark's parts. Like hitting a PiƱata with a bat.

Andrew

I have no idea what your motive is PS, in my estimation there is something wrong with you. You're like the storm troopers. What compels them to help Darth Vader blow up planets? Nobody realy knows.

PugetSound

your making out like every single person who has ever been a waitperson is joan of arc or albert schwitzer. i've been a waitperson before. it's hard work, not much pay, dealing with difficult people, etc. but it isn't like being a police officer or a soldier. they are not putting their life on the line for you or i in defense of this country.
some waitpersons -now hold on to your hat- are also not good people. just like we have some bad apples in the police field, etc.
sometimes people have a grudge against others and look to take it out on 'em. ask yourself this, if she was trully as unpolitical as she says she was why did she know enough about sharkansky to pass on his name to the one person who would post such a story. hmmm?

PugetSound

c'mon andrew, surely you wondered about that. why o why did this supposedly apolitical person know enough to get this story to merci's blog?
kismet?

PugetSound

you like to delve into motives. delve into that one.

Irene

Andrew - your main argument seems to be that Steffany was mad at us so it must have been our fault. Look at what she blogged about other customers in general: "I see these mothers walk in with their wash-and-wear haircuts and loose fitting clothing (denim jumper anyone?) I think, 'Wow, their husband is a lucky man...NOT.' But of course, the husband is no prize either. It seems to me that they have children, and then become these sexless automatons who have about three subjects to engage in conversation in." The waitress who wrote that is obviously a bitter person who was unhappy in her job. That doesn't mean she has a license to slander customers of her own restaurant. If you can defend that, then there's no point in this discussion. We didn't piss her off -- her life pissed her off.

PugetSound

Irene
I think Andrew has to view things through a political lens. Because he disagrees with the politics of your husband he just can't get his brain past that so he has to act in a reflexive manner. That is why he is hanging on to his position despite the evidence that should tell him to at least open his eyes to the possibility that he is being played for a sucker.
I hoped he had a sense of fair play about him that would allow him to get past partisan politics and objectively look at the situation.

Irene

PugetS - I think Andrew is a friend of Steffany's who feels bad for her. I can understand that but I think he must know that she put this thing in motion herself. Basically, she acted maliciously and unprofessionally, and got busted. That's ALL there is to this story.

PugetSound

Amen. catch you later.

PS: this is a tricky blog, people like to post under the name of other people at times.

Michele

I think this waitress was pretty ready to quit her job before all this even happened. If you read her very foul-mouthed blog (which is really sad--after all, she's someones' mother!), you'll see that she was actually seething with contempt for the families who come to her restaurant, including the moms who came in with what she contemptuously describes as their "wash and wear haircuts" and their "denim jumpers", as if it were some kind of crime that they hadn't come in with different clothing and different hairstyles. Then she proceeds to effectively say that their husbands are also ugly. Then talks about how she's trying to find a job where she doesn't "have to touch other people's food".

My goodness---was SHE ever in the wrong job!

People, don't you get it---she made a hobby out of dumping on the clientele; she did it to Stefan's family in particular and to everyone else in general before that---just read her blog. Don't feel too sorry for her. Just hope she's ready to change. She pridefully looked down on fellow busy moms for the crime of having easy-to-maintain haircuts and somewhat outdated clothing and then took the fall that comes after that. She then takes a name off a customer credit card and cowardly slanders a particular family, believing she could stay 'in the shadows' and got the light of day shown on her. You reap it; you sow it.
