OMG, OMG Joanie, all I've got to defend myself with is this pancake batter gun they gave me when the Ballard Denny's went belly up.

PugetSound

yes 'supersoul' we know what a longtime contributor to his blog you have been. what a load.
if you have a comment on the subject matter post it.

nevets

Awww, I made Sparky mad at me. Well, once a lying idiot, always a lying idiot right Sparky. I just hope that if you are a real teacher, you don't lie to your students like you do here. And if you can't even answer a simple question, how can you expect one of your students to do the same. Like Joanie, you skedaddle really good.

PugetSound

nevets, what are the odds that 'supersoul' is sparky? trying to help joanie out of a jam?

PugetSound

oh yes, nevets from here on in make sure you clear things through chuck. joanie has appointed him to be our leader. you have taken the oath, right?

joanie

Oh, Steven, which definition of "skedaddle" are you operating under currently. The one I represent with my ten posts or however many or the one the absent Sparky represents which number around zero. Just curious, Steven.

Supersoul, I'm sure you're a reader of many years. Glad to have you posting. Welcome.

A pancake-batter gun? You're well-armed for this crowd, Jerramya. Now, let's call it a night . . . but keep that pancake batter handy!

jeeramya

PugetSound, as much as I hate to admit it you have a point that Erica Barnet was remiss in not asking about certain things. For example, a poster pointed out the similarity and unusual spelling of "Steffany" Bell and "Steffan" Sharkansky. I ran this through Intellius.com, and found that the chances of this were 3^18 (3 to the 18th power). I virtually proved that this whole episode was a set-up from the get-go, and the Stranger didn't even address that.

PugetSound

jeeramya
wow, i thought your work on the WTC Bldg 7 rigged explosion was good, but this is even better. Keep it up, Hempfest is just around the corner.

Joanie, Skedaddle in you pick/choose your questions. How would it work in your line of business -not that you would- but lets imagine if you had been blogging about the parents/kids by name in your class. Commenting on their parenting skills/liklihood of being a child beater/calling the kid a monkey.
How would that work out then if you had been 'outed' by an alert parent and asked to quietly retract the story and instead you had blown it off.

It's on topic. Are you afraid of the answer? Just be intellectually honest.

nevets

Oh joanie, remember this post. I can follow along, now try it yourself once in awhile and keep your stories straight.

"Steven: what Randi said that Nixon did during the Kent State shootings?"

"Can you link where she said that? Are you sure she said that or did someone tell you she said that? Actually, I don't know much about her saying that or what really happened even."

Like I posted earlier, I tried to FIND the link for you. But it mysteriously has been deleted off the whiterosesociety web page. I also find it hard to believe you don't recall this happening as it was a major event during the Vietnam War. And yes, I heard Randi say that Nixon personally called the National Guard and ordered them to open fire on the Students.

nevets

No puts those are her "Parents". Not the students parents, her "Parents". So she would just reprimand them and go on with her business of ruining the kids future by putting something crazy in his pernament record.

nevets

I'm sorry, his/her pernament record.

jsa on commercial drive

Think what you will of the Sharanksys.

The key things to remember are:

1) Stefan has no employers.

2) He is not elected by anyone.

3) While I suppose he has advertisers, I can't imagine they throw any substantial quantity of cash into his income stream.

4) The main thing this whole episode has laid forth is that Stefan is thin skinned and more than a little mean. This "revelation" is only slightly more surprising than finding out Dan Savage has a healthy and varied sex life.

As pleasant a summer's dream as it would be that Stefan leave Seattle in shame, sell his luxurious house in Green Lake and use the funds to buy a one bedroom apartment back in his old stomping grounds in the Bay Area, it won't happen.

Bloggers are not role models. They are not politicians, sports stars, heads of corporations, teachers, or doctors. They are kind of like radio shock jocks, but less reputable and certainly more poorly paid.

Stefan is finally accountable to nobody but his wife, and she seems to support his actions.

ps PugetSound, why are you posting so much in Stefan's defense? Is there a relationship the two of you have that you'd like to share with the class? I wouldn't spend that much time defending anyone I wasn't intimately involved with, but that's me.

joanie

But it mysteriously has been deleted off the whiterosesociety web page. I also find it hard to believe you don't recall this happening as it was a major event during the Vietnam War.

Of course I remember Kent State. I don't understand your accusation about it. I never said Nixon ordered it. I don't know what Randi said but I never heard her say Nixon ordered it. I have no idea why you connect this to me.

Again, I never heard Randi say it. So, don't hold me accountable for something you say she said. I am not a sheep. You may have a hard time understanding that the left does not follow the left. Neither do I disrespect her because you say she said something that you now say isn't there. (fcs, would this even be allowed through the door in a court of law?)

You conveniently left out that I said I didn't even think they were Kent State students. I heard they weren't. I heard it from Howard Zinn whose wife was at Kent State at that time.

If this is an example of gettin' your facts straight, I rest my case.

I think, Steven, it is time to let this particular beef you have with Randi . . . me? . . . anybody else? . . . go. Honey, it ain't worth it.

Find a new bone to pick with me. I'll probably chew on the other end.

nevets

Joanie, follow along okay. Read it slowly so you can understand, like you do to your students, one syllable at a time. I never said you heard Randi say that, all I said was you asked me to post a link to it. I am sorry I cannot get the link as it has been deleted. And yes 4 students died. Did you get all that? Are you up to speed with the rest of the world?

Teachers, go figure.

joanie

A couple of things then. First of all, why do you keep bringing it up? What is your point?

Second, I will take you at your word that they were students because I don't know. It is possible he said they weren't all protestors - some were bystanders - and I took that to mean they weren't all "students." I don't know.

Unlike you, Steven, I can admit when I am wrong or uncertain.

But, I would like to know why this keeps coming up? What is your point?

nevets

Did you not ask for a link to it?

""Can you link where she said that?"

I tried, I am sorry I could not find it for you. If you did not want me to link it for you to hear or read I wouldn't have mentioned it again. But I did hear her say it, and you holding Randi as a goddess or something on her views of how this country should be run, I thought you would like to know what nonsense she puts out to her listeners.

This guy, Howard Zinn, you think highly of him do you?

sparky

I see the circle jerk continues.

I'm trying SS.

PugetSound

"ps PugetSound, why are you posting so much in Stefan's defense? "

very simple: because he and his family are getting a raw deal. it was a mean trick that was played on them.
it isn't a political thing. i have no more trouble defending the sharkansky family than i have advocating that sen craig resign. right is right.
it is also amusing to a certain extent the logical leaps people will make to harm someone that they disagree with on a political basis. one only has to read the posts of say a joanie to understand that she is not the one you would want defending your position.
just be intellectually honest and beholden to only yourself.

Duffman

I agree on the resignation of Sen Craig - that should be forthcoming in my opinion. You know what bothers me about that scenario is how he (Sen Craig) apparently so brazenly threw his Senate ID out to the police saying 'what do you think of that'; as if this ID had gotten him free of 'sticky situations' in the past. I'd 'can him' for that alone.

PugetSound

duff
i agree with you wholeheartedly. using your position is such an abuse of power. i am just glad that he came up against a police officer that refused to look the other way.
dan savage had some interesting/insightful comments on this topic the other day. about those who are repressed and act out in this 'downlow' fashion secretly all the while publicly proclaiming an anti-gay agenda.
i think the over/under on craig's resignation will be about a week.

wutitiz

JSA: just trying to decipher your post from 10:23 last night regarding the 4 "key" things to remember about Sharkansky...please explain yourself further.

1)Shark has no employers--I thought he had a job in software, and that the activism/blogging was just an avocation. But if not, so what? I don't get how that's at all germane, much less "key."

2)He is unelected--he has not run for office, and even if he had, so what. I am not elected, the waitress is not elected, presumably you are not elected, and Micheal Hood is not elected. What has that got to do with anything???

3)He gets little ad revenue from his blog? Huh??? Are you saying that his actions would be more justifiable if he were getting more ad $$$??? Don't get this one either.

4) He is mean and thin-skinned. This is utterly subjective, so I won't even bother with it.

If these are the top 4 "key" bad points about Sharkansky, he's come out of this smelling like a rose.

joanie

Steven: But I did hear her say it, and you holding Randi as a goddess or something on her views of how this country should be run, I thought you would like to know what nonsense she puts out to her listeners.

I don't hold her views as religion - your "goddess" comment.. Why should I? I have my own views. Again, you people on the right don't get that we on the left make up our own minds. It is a cultural shift and perhaps you're unable to make it.

As for the nonsense, I didn't hear it. Maybe she said it, maybe not. Maybe you heard it wrong. That is why I like her. She sources what she says. I can check for myself.

And if she is wrong, which is always possible since we on the left admit to being imperfect - unlike you on the right - we aren't stuck focusing on one statement, belief, factoid until it strangles the life out of us - also unlike you on the right. This particular example being proof. Move on, Steven.

This guy, Howard Zinn, you think highly of him do you?

Very highly. Why shouldn't I? Is there a reason?

joanie

wutitiz, you seem to miss points. I understand your being on the right now.

Succinctly put, JSA's point was that the Shark has nothing to lose. But he went for the jugular with Steff - her income.

You may think that is just fine; but, let's be honest and at least recognize there is a difference. But, then, it is true the right seems to want to give the powerful more power even if it inflicts pain on themselves. What's the Matter with Kansas?

joanie

Steven, regarding Zinn, I don't think he stated his facts incorrectly. I have great respect for his knowledge. Mistakes made are mine. I take responsibility for those. Regarding my comment on the corporation "personhood" thing and Zinn's comments, those were my errors.

I'll have to listen more carefully! If you want to criticize Zinn, read him first. If you want to know more about the "corporations are persons" read Hartmann's Unequal Protection.

But don't blame Randi, Hartmann or Zinn because I need to listen better. You have me on notice to do so. :)

PugetSound

joanie
"Succinctly put, JSA's point was that the Shark has nothing to lose. But he went for the jugular with Steff - her income."

well, some would say that being libeled is no big deal. others would disagree. you still won't answer the question what would happen if you had done so at your place of work. scared about the answer?
maybe she will think again before spreading malicious gossip over the internet. hmmm?

PugetSound

Joanie
Lets try this intellectual honesty deal one more time.

Aexia

well, some would say that being libeled is no big deal. others would disagree. you still won't answer the question what would happen if you had done so at your place of work. scared about the answer?

It's not libel when it's true.

And Stefan's childish behaviour only confirms the story.

PugetSound

"It's not libel when it's true."

but it is when it is recanted....

wuttitiz

Joanie: I know I'm going to sound dumb to you here, but I sincerely still don't get it. If He had had a job (I still don't know that he doesn't), perhaps a seat on the Water Commission, and big time ad revenue from his blog, then lefties would have said "Have at it, Shark??????"

And, anyway, it seems to me that being labeled as stingy and a rotten parent, much as Hitchens is known as a drunk and Bush as a former cokehead, was what he "had to lose," and that is a lot (not to mention lefty cooks and servers putting toenails in his food at every restaurant).

PugetSound

wutitiz
consider the source. joanie goes bonkers when you make humerous- light of her annonymous persona. given that, you can just imagine how SHE would react if subject to the same personal/vindictive/FALSE story that the Sharkansky family was hit with. those of us who read this blog can pretty much understand what joanie's reaction would be.

wuttitiz

Joanie: try this analogy...suppose Sharkansky is driving down, say, Aurora with wife & kid when a huge rock comes crashing into his windshield. But tech-geek that he is, he has a dash-cam and identifies the thrower. It's a young waiter, throwing rocks for his and his friends amusement, from the lot of the restaurant where he works.
He asks the boy to stop throwing rocks, and the boy refuses. Shark then posts the video of the boy throwing rocks, and his wife calls the restaurant to say "do you know you have a boy throwing rocks from your lot?" His 14 year old daughter visits the restaurant to tell the boy, "that rock could have hurt my little brother."
All else is still the same. Shark is locally-important, albeit jobless, adless, unelected bigwig and the waiter is a down-and-out unfortunate. What would be your verdict here?

wuttitiz

PS, once again, at the risk of Joanie saying now I'm sucking up, I admire your patience here.

chucks

Good grief.
I take a couple of days off, expecting this "story" to be long over. Give it a rest. The libs on this site are not going to admit defeat.
Fox News is reporting that Sen. Craig will resign tomorrow. That is our Republican Party. We get a criminal, poofter (what ever the hell that is colier) etc, we drum them out. Even after 27 years of service. The Democrats get a criminal, the just keep re-electing them (William Jefferson, Edward Kennedy, etc.).

chucks

What is a poofter? Is that some sort of bigoted slang to replace or augment fag, queer etc. Come on colier, "splain it to this old grandpa.
I'm just not tuned in to this new millenium bigotry.I thought we started to get rid of that crap forty years ago. Guess we still have a ways to go.
I read the whole thread folks, but sorry, that line just wouldn't leave my brain.

UrbanDictionary.com

poofter:
A male pillow biter.

As in " Im going to go home and bite my pillow!!" from "Waiting for Guffman."

UrbanDictionary.com

poofter
One who is unusually fruitful.

a fart , flatulence , passing gas , "poof" .

wutitiz

Chucks, you might be right. It is interesting to have an case where regardless of the facts, the left paints the conservative as the villain and the lib as victim.
In retrospect, the right did the same thing w/ Bill Clinton. The human mind has a limitless capacity to distort reality. Did you know you'd been appointed militia leader?

PugetSound

chucks
joanie has elected you to be commander in chief of the right side element of this blog. we serve at your pleasure.

chucks

I saw the joanie put me in charge of something. Midgets or something. But if that is the case, I think we are in trouble. Somebody put me in charge of militia and puts swore allegiance to me.
Oh well, The Right shall rise again.

PugetSound

actually that was me swearing allegience to you. i also said you were the tallest midget in our group. LOL

All Hail Chuck...

nevets

All hail the Chuckster

PugetSound

i'm sure joanie is upchucking right now.

jeeramya

Why is it that 'Chucks' has that extra 's' on his name. Is there more than one of him? Rove once joked (and this is documented) about having a huge cloned army of right wing marauders to do his bidding. OMG!

PugetSound

ol randi rhodes was in rare form today as she put out 'THE WORD.' she literally was pulling stuff out of her postier -common amongst her listner base- that the bush administration might be behind the craig debacle.

EqualizernotFertilizer

LeeAnn

ok chucks, you are concerned that "poofter" is bigoted slang and then you call Iraqis "rag-heads."

Mercipedia

As in " Im going to go home and bite my pillow!!" from "Waiting for Guffman Duffman."

Duffman

LeeAnn: if you're referring to chucks 10:07 PM post on topic of Tony Snow, why did you assume he was talking about Iraqis? Seemed 'generic' to me and was probably in reference to the radical Al Qaeda...don't you think?

LeeAnn

So, it is ok to use the term "rag head" depending on which group we are talking about? Selective racism, how nice.

PugetSound

lee-ann
yep, those poor radical Al Qaeda types. deserving of such respect as they behead innocents and intentionally set off bombs adjacent to schools/hospitals...lordy-lordy says this atheist gawd forbid we offend them and they REALLY REALLY get mad.
