We've gotten verification and clarification of the disturbing meeting we described earlier which we now know included Bonneville CEO Bruce Reese . Program Director Rod Arquette said at the full staff affair, "now all we have to do is finish off the KOMO homo's."
Arquette, it turns out, is not only the local PD, but Vice President of Bonneville's Programming and Operations.
And it's not the first time he's been entangled in controversy.
The remark went down badly with many at the meeting; but with the assembled bigwigs and managers? ...not so much.
Astoundingly, Arquette was comfortable enough to say this, not only in front of employees, but also company President and CEO Reese; Vice President and Market Manager Scott Sutherland; Vice President and Regional Manager Drew Horowitz; who were at the meeting. Also in attendance: the News Director, Sales Manager, and the Marketing Manager.
The info came in the comments threads from KIRO employee and irregular commenter "Tink," who writes: "Did the other managers and officers quickly jump in and override Arquette's boorish remark? No. They simply nodded and chuckled.
The staff remained mostly silent, maybe shocked. But the officers and managers, who had an opportunity to quickly diffuse the ignorant comment, just smiled and said nothing.
At least one manager, days after the fact, has apologized to a few employees, myself included, but only after they realized some employees were upset."
He says many KIRO-ites had high hopes after the quirky neglect they suffered under Entercom. "But this is the 4th or 5th blunder (I'd say 'boner' but I don't want to arouse Bruce Reese) these people have made in a very short time."
In 2005, KIRO/KTTH employees decertified their union. Tink says, "... there is a strong move afoot to bring AFTRA back to represent us. As much as some of us felt poorly toward AFTRA, we are feeling much more anxious about this new team of managers.
The decertification effort was led by Lou Pate, Mike Webb, and Mike Siegel now all have gone their sordid, separate ways. The vote to decertify had a margin of only one- there's a good chance they could reinstate union representation.
Tink expresses a relief we all can feel: "I guess we can be thankful our main competitor doesn't have the call letters KIGR."
To that we'd have to add a hearty, "Yo, Bro."
My God, this Political Correctness has transcended all bounds -- rediculous! Why must everyone take him/herselves so damned seriously? If only those in the homosexual community are allowed to call themselves "queers," and only blacks are entitled to use that nefarious "N-word" -- and people continually have heart palpetations or terminal teeth-gnashing for such silly crap, this world is in very serious trouble!
When they changed the name of Chinatown to the International District, nobody who lived there liked it, only those with the audacity to lecture we unwashed "how to properly live."
Now they're trying a similar (and laughable, almost) thing in Houston calling Chinatown Asia Town or some such...?
Haven't we got more troubling things about which to be concerned? See, I didn't want to upset some English professor in his/her Ivory Tower with my ending a sentence with a preposition -- although, with today's sorry educational system, I doubt if anyone under age 45 knows what that's all about (so there!).

In a business setting, your suppose to have a little class and respect for the people who work around you. In this situation particularly you have an obligation, especially if you are management to not act like an ass.
If the guy who said this as so little regard for the people that work under him then it doesn't bode well for other aspects of the working environment.

Considering your spelling errors, frost, you must be a product of private school?

When you type with your two index fingers and deal largely with the "spoken-word" (as in having been in the broadcasting field for 45+ years), errors may be made on occasion. Sorry, but that's the best excuse I have for the moment..... your witness - - -

No apostrophe on the plural version of homo. It's just "homos."
Ya know?

Are you Frosty Fowler, frost?
I was reading about the firing of those over at KOMOTV, which includied April Zapeda, Bl'am's daughter. The new GM and the news director are from Fox News and are Foxing-up the news in Seattle with more tabloid-style packages and young things. This goes against the grain of Fisher's previous policy. I would say, lookout Connie Thompson, and Dan & Kathy and all you oldsters, over there.

Nigel..please don't say it may be so...could Ken Schramm be next?

Nigel,
Are you Frosty Fowler, frost?
Dear Sweet Lord Cthulhu,
I come to you now on bended knee.
Please let Frost be none-other than Frosty Hardison, Federal Way's "Concerned Parent" who believes that Global Warming doesn't exist (because God says so), and that the world is only 14,000 years old (abid.)
Amen

Hey Nigel, imagine Sal on that KOMO list. But then he is protecting pizza parlors from the ravages of min.wage employees.

God no... in fact I left the Socialist Soviet of Seattle area several years ago after some glorious years in Alaska, Phoenix, California and elsewhere.
I'm the guy you can blame for inventing the "oldies" format a bunch of years ago: "KOOL Gold" (7/15/61 in fact).
Have a great evening and a super weekend.

Ah so it was the commies that drove you out! Sorry to hear that. I don't suppose you would accept me calling a region of the country (perhaps where you now reside?) that is more conservative...something like Nazi Germany of XXX?
Of course the idiocy of that statement would only be equal to your previous sputum.
