Dori's hair's on fire. Frrrrrank Shiers shouts at callers .
What's got the boyz all blarmy?
Seems Akon, a Grammy award-winning hip-hop and R & B singer dry-humped or dry raped (depending whom you talk to) a 15-year-old girl on stage in Trinidad, April 12. Somebody shot some footage with a cell phone, and it went YouTube viral.
It became radioactive after US blogs, gossip and entertainment news websites got a hold of it.
Then the next wave: Michelle Malkin, Billo Reilly and Sean Hannity clucking like a herd of Catholic turkeys.
The locals got to pump up the heat and make like relevant because a) Outrage R Us; and b) Akon is coming June 16 to the White River Amphitheater in Auburn as the opening act on the Gwen Stefani tour.
Dori started rending his golf shirt a week or so ago- threatening the very idea of Akon and making those grrr-ing threats men like him love to make at other men when they know they'll never be in the same room with them.
Outrage is Dori's schtick anymore- it riles up the kind of listeners who like his adolescent brabbling, and gets them to call his show.
(Because hey- that's what talk radio's all about).
When people get weary of the "tax outrage," the "Ron Sims outrage" and the "none-of the-government's-business outrage," he falls back on the "sex outrage." Mostly it has to do with children, or young girls, and the dirty men, rappers and other famous black men who love them.
The international outrage, which had little-to-none to do with Dori (although he takes the credit) caused Verizon Wireless to pull its sponsorship of Akon in a move believed to have been sparked by the negative publicity.
Now Dori and his lesser brother, Frank Shiers (KIRO m-f, 9p-a) are calling on the Governor to do something to make the Muckleshoot Tribe who owns the venue to pull the plug. Doubt she has much jurisdiction over them, but the KIRO boyz are hoping that they can put a schmutz on her since the Indians aren't returning their calls.
You're right- it's a stretch, but when in doubt, and since Bill Clinton is no longer available, you can always blame the Gov.
Shiers tonight called on listeners to write or phone the Seattle daily papers, the New York Times, and the AP to make this a big story. He told listeners to call CBS and get Akon's music kicked off their stations.
(And of course, these media, recognizing that the heat is coming from a pack of self-promoting radio and TV entertainers, have relegated it to the back pages and left it to the tabloids).
It was rough, and looked bad, but Trinidad doesn't think Akons circle around the dance floor worthy of prosecution. It's a local issue handled in the local jurisdiction- in another country!
What's left is just talk radio poodle doodle.
Dori and Shiers are milking the mouse of last week's "news" to get a few more hours of entertainment from it. There's frequently an urge among talk hosts to flex their muscles to see if they can get somebody fired, censored or elected.
Kids these days do a lot of dry-humping, (or "simulated sex dances") as we've reported.
Shocking as these maneuvers may be to older people, they're usually consensual; and like rap lyrics, usually more about the innate teenage ability to act in ways that exquisitely and precisely achieves maximum parental dismay than anything else.
They might talk to John Carlson over at KVI- maybe they can pass a Three Humps You're Out law.
Free Speech? Oh, that's only for wingers who want to push their agenda on the radio......
People pay, yes pay to go to concerts. No one is dragging them off the street to go.
What a dip shit.
Not my kind of music but I've come to believe idiots bitching about someone else's music is eternal.

I say leave the Native Americans alone. What's next, do we make them tow the line about smoking in their casinos? As long as it's legal let those who choose to frequent such acts do so. Dory, if it were taking place in a public venue may be you'd have a case, but not on Native American lands.
Generates good ratings tho, doesn't it. And I don't think our Governor pulls any weight in a different soverign setting?
Simulated acts are permitted all the time...just look at the person we have 'simulating' that he is President of the USA!
Get over it Dory...no one is forcing you to take 'Star' and 'the girls'.

"three humps you're out" - good one, Michael. In fact, good column. I guess the pickings for hosts on the right are getting a little slim.
Started my day with a laugh. Thanks.

As the commercials for "Christian" Seattle schools and bornagain local churches continuously roll on big Kirby's "Guns and Jesus Show" (he carries whenever he leaves home), Carleen must announce with a heavy heart the news of the the Gig Harbor "pastor" who confessed to molesting his small daughter.
Posted by: Tommy008 | May 09, 2007 at 08:39 AM
Kirby was going on about it this morning so they're on the band wagon too....if a bit late.

Can't Shiers come up with his own show ideas? He's like Dori's mini me.
I caught a portion of his show last night. Is there anyone who could possibly be more condescending?
Posted by: Liz | May 09, 2007 at 09:47 AM
It is just another example of the tabloid crap that talk radio thinks it has to del with to get raztings. It's like cable TV.
Posted by: marc | May 09, 2007 at 09:49 AM
I've been wanting to write in about this for a while now. Celebrity gossip on the radio and on TV is making me crazy. Why is this news? Do they have to go for the lowest common denominator even in talk radio which has usually been free of that stuff?
Posted by: cindy | May 09, 2007 at 10:12 AM
given the choice of news or gossip...a huge chunk of the populace will choose gossip every time...
Posted by: sparky | May 09, 2007 at 10:19 AM
Speaking of gossip, wandering into that swamp otherwise known as the Radio Fertilizer...Brian apparently thinks the radio billboard in Cincinnati is "ok" and not racist because "Latino americans dont dress like that ( wearing a sombrero), just the Mexicans do."
Scroll through the site and it appears that Mr. Baloney still has a hard-on for Al Franken.....inserting his picture wherever he can...
Liberaltalkradio.com has an interesting picture of Brian at home...

So you thought it was OKAY that this girl unwillingly got faked-raped by AKON??? It was waaaay disturbing what he did.
Posted by: Kiki | May 09, 2007 at 11:04 AM
Can't say for sure that was the case. She didn't mind it until it was exposed and her father who is a pastor found out. Also she had sneaked into a club for 18 year olds. He assumed she was of age. This is not news except maybe in Trinidad.

Can't Shiers come up with his own show ideas? He's like Dori's mini me.
I rarely/never listen to Dori.
But I've noticed that Shudder-Shiers' show-prep basically consists of an Orbusmax scan. Usually, one can read down an Orbi-column and have hour-1, hour-2, hour-3.
And when Orbi's out of news or there's too many Bush Co. scandals (ie, "everyday"), Frank jumps to:
A.) Talk about pets
B.) Talk about spoiled brat, Jr.

You sir, and your blog are the perfect examples of the mortally skewed moral compass of the left. Permissiveness granted to such an animal act is unconscionable. If he were not black would the same pass be granted? I doubt that.

And whaddya know! My political tea-leaves/entrail inspection works again:The Orb runs with it
Right below a tirade about Bla'M,
And all in caps & linking to DORI'S smirk:
"ORBUSMAX EDITORIAL BOARD: THE WHITERIVER AMPHITHEATRE AND MUCKLESHOOT INDIAN RESERVATION ARE SET TO ALLOW A HIP-HOP ARTIST ON STAGE WHO ALLEGEDLY PERFORMED SIMULATED SEX WITH A 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL DURING A CONCERT IN TRINIDAD - WHERE IS THE NORTHWEST MEDIA ON THIS STORY? WHY WON'T AMPHITHEATRE AND MUCKLESHOOT OFFICIALS RESPOND TO QUESTIONS FROM TALK RADIO? WHERE IS QUEEN CHRISTINE AND HER INFLUENCE AS GOVERNOR? WHERE ARE THE NORTHWEST PROGRESSIVES WHO SUPPOSEDLY CARE SO MUCH FOR THE WELL-BEING OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN?... "
Meet the Stress Editorial board to Orbi/Dori/Frank:
What do Gov. Gregiore, Orbusmax, Dori, Talk radio, NW Progressives, Seattle Dailies, NYTimes, all have in common?
Answer: They're combined sovereignty over Muckleshoot add up to exactly ZERO
We go now to Meet the Stress Special correspondent George W Decider about the meaning of "Tribal Sovereignty":

Shouldn't the FREE MARKET be allowed to solve this problem? Once again Dori is calling upon GAVERNMENT to CONTROL OUR LIVES and make up our minds for us!
Posted by: Andrew | May 09, 2007 at 12:57 PM
Not only the 'free market' Andrew, but (like merci implies) the 'SUPER-FREE Native American' market!
Posted by: Duffman | May 09, 2007 at 01:01 PM
I think Dori has proven to be innefective as a force in society. The only thing he can manage to do is scare away politicians and get on their shit list for life. I'm surprised BlatherWatch would even think to compare him and his audience to KVI their zealot listeners.
I'm ashamed that we've been sucked into taking him seriously once again, the same way we did when he accused the gunned down ravers of allowing themselves to be shot. He's a radio whore and we have just made use of his services.

T008: surely there's a way for you to weave this into an installment?
Posted by: Duffman | May 09, 2007 at 01:24 PM
Dori/Orbi/Franki going unhinged about Akon only increases Akon's hip-hop street-cred (= $$$$). Thus amounting to free adverts.
Everyone suddenly forget about 1980s Ozzy? (PBUH)

Whori is a wannabee, a little yapping purse mutt. He will never achieve critical mass as his show is puerile at best.
Posted by: mark | May 09, 2007 at 03:00 PM
so the liberal left only has a problem with an artist if it's just words and not actions?
Buju Banton anyone? As far as I know, he's never done anything near what akon did, yet was chased out of San Francisco for a 15 year old song.
Good to know that you guys would hang a 14 year old out to dry all in the name of dori bashing.

Buju Banton anyone? As far as I know, he's never done anything near what akon did, yet was chased out of San Francisco for a 15 year old song.
Hey genius. Last I heard SanFran was not on reservation land.
Tell you what, the weekend of the show, invest your gubmint check instead of spending it at Muckleshoot.
Which begs the question:
Is anyone here even going to this show?
Posted by: mercifurious | May 09, 2007 at 05:19 PM
sdfgsdf, now you're the one being exploitive, trying to use that 14 year old girl as a human shield against our perfectly valid attacks on a particular radio whore.
If said radio whore was at all consistant he'd be urging people to boycott the upcoming concert and speak with their pocket books, not begging the FREE MARKET to become UN-FREE just this once, as a personal favor to His Whoreness.
What he's doing is realy despicable. He's trying to manipulate the free market by intimidating a business with the implicit threat of bad press via his radio show so that it will act in accordance with his wishes and not the wishes of the public at large, who are perfectly capable of making their feelings known in the form of ticket sales.

I dont even know who he is, so..no, Im not going.
Posted by: sparky | May 09, 2007 at 05:28 PM
I'm not going either - and get this, and I didn't even need to Dori to bully the venue into cancelling the event to keep me away.
Posted by: Andrew | May 09, 2007 at 05:47 PM
I think Ragnar Danneskold said he was going.
Posted by: Duffman | May 09, 2007 at 06:42 PM
Dori has his panties in a bunch because some rapper named Akon dry humped a 15 year old on stage at a concert in some obscure foreign country called...Trinidad. If only we can get Dori to work up that kind of sanctimonious billable outrage over our soldiers being butchered like cattle in a foreign country called...Iraq.
Posted by: mrogi | May 09, 2007 at 07:47 PM
The other day when either Frank or Dori was going on about this story (I think it was Frank), he kept telling everyone to call the Auburn City Council because the White River Amphitheatre must be in their jurisdiction! Um, what? The Muckleshoots are a tribe, not a social club -- they aren't under Auburn's jurisdiction, and the site isn't in Auburn in any way, is it? And he kept repeating it for a while -- I tuned out (as I generally do once it becomes clear that its the same old same old), but I really hope someone called up and told him off for it.

This is really funny..watching all the "you liberals have no morals" bull.
Whatever happened to personal responsibility and parenting? I thought all of you conservatives believed in that. If you're blaming anyone, how about talking about the PASTOR father who had no idea his daughter was sneaking into this show?
You dipsticks really want the GOVERNMENT to be running around dealing with stuff like this?
What about keeping government out of business? If you people don't like it don't go to the show. But please give it up with your incessant whining about liberals.

Since Jim Walker AKA Orbusmax likes to ape Drudge's schtick he probably follows Drudge's example of not liking girls, either.

As one of those conservatives, I agree with you completely. It is none of the governments business. As a parent, I encouraged my kids to avoid crap like that. As kids, they indulged in crap like that. When caught, I grounded them for crap like that. Now that they are adults, they avoid crap like that.
Life is good. Now they try to teach their kids to avoid......
But what the hell, my parents taught me to avoid the 1960's version of crap like that. I had my fun as well.
As parents, most of us try to teach our kids right from wrong. Akon is wrong. My folks thought the Stones were wrong.
Generally, liberals our not without morals. Most libs that I know have strong moral values. Many just have a perverted view of what governments role should be. That doesn't make them evil, just wrong IMHO.
Posted by: chucks | May 10, 2007 at 10:15 AM
That is the whole point Chucks...something like this happens and it is the fault of 'liberal permissive culture,' whatever that is. Personal responsibility and parenting seem to only be important when folks who have posted earlier can paint liberals as the bad guys. It's just base hypocrisy in my book.
Posted by: cowpotpi3 | May 10, 2007 at 10:36 AM

It is the fault of the permissive liberal culture IMO. It is my responsibility as a parent to teach my children "better".
It is not the governments responsibility at all. It has been a while since I read the Constitution of our great nation, but I do not remember anything about raising children in there. I do not remember anything about which concerts people can or can not attend either.
What akon did on stage with that child was disgusting to me personally. But it is none of our governments business. If that were my 14 year old child, and he knew she was a child, and it was done here, I would ground her for life. I would hire a lawyer and fatten my wallet as best I could with his money.
Posted by: chucks | May 10, 2007 at 11:08 AM
"It is the fault of the permissive liberal culture IMO."
It happened in Trinidad. How is it a "culture's" fault?
"If that were my 14 year old child, and he knew she was a child, and it was done here, I would ground her for life. I would hire a lawyer and fatten my wallet as best I could with his money."
I haven't seen anything indicating he knew her age - it was an 18 and older venue. What would you sue him for?
Posted by: Minko | May 10, 2007 at 11:50 AM
I have not seen anything that indicates that he new her age either. That is where the "if" comes in. It was an adult venue and he assumed she was an adult. Fair assumption.
The action itself is accepted in a "liberal" culture. In a more conservative era it would not be accepted. I do not accept it myself, nor do other conservative thinking people. That kind of act will never get any of my hard money. My choice, not governments.
Posted by: chucks | May 10, 2007 at 12:20 PM
"The action itself is accepted in a "liberal" culture. In a more conservative era it would not be accepted."
You mean outlawed? I'm sure the Taliban would be on your side here.
Posted by: Minko | May 10, 2007 at 12:39 PM
It is the fault of the permissive liberal culture IMO.
Hey chucks, what "Permissive Culture" is responsible for the GOP Massage-o-palooza,
Delay's moral bankruptcy,
Bob Ney's Bribery,
Ted Haggard's "fabulous" Hookers n'Meth habit
(List goes on ad nauseum)
Would this be a result of the "permissive liberal culture" or a different "permissive culture"?
(Lord Cthulhu, please have chucks blame Clinton for all this... amen)
Funny, I don't remember Orbi/Dori/Franki running with these stories.
Posted by: mercifurious | May 10, 2007 at 12:39 PM
Either liberals or conservatives blaming the other for moral decay is like the proverbial pot calling the kettle black.
There've been more than enough scandals to go around from each political perspective.
