NPR will announce this week that former Seattle talk host and producer, Luke Burbank will co-host a new alternative to "Morning Edition," aimed at for 25-44-year-olds, according to the New York Times, today.
The show is yet unnamed and will be closely integrated with a Web site.
This is a younger audience than the usual aged NPR crowd. The large demographic is the target of many new media who are scrambling to lure them.
It's not known whether local NPR affiliates KUOW or KPLU will pick up the new show when it becomes available.
The NYT says Burbank, a national NPR reporter "earned some followers last year when he served as an interim host for the cheeky quiz show 'Wait, Wait ... Don’t Tell Me.'"
We reported on that show which made such an impression on the wigs at NPR. We'd been part of the Burbank cult since 2000, after meeting Luke at a Republican picnic riding a hot air balloon with Carleen Johnson at Enchanted Village.
Burbank once did Metro Traffic; produced right-wing radio for KVI's Kirby Wilbur; wrote for the late, great Rewind, and was mentored by the NPR fake news magazine's creator, Bill Radke who now co-hosts Weekend America (KUOW Saturdays, 12-1p).
We wish Luke the best of luck. He's missed around here.

Luke, Luke, don't tell me....a Repug?! Must have been in another life....
Fabulous photo-posting, Bla'M! with a little help from N8?

Luke needs to be on commercial radio getting a big private sector paycheck. He deserves to be on the radio.

Unfortunately this blog (I believe) is actually helping the conservative cause by being so left-wing. You will notice that there is no vocal support for Mrs Clinton...that is until it's completely evident that she will be the nominee...and then they will all fall in line. Make note of this and remember...and watch what happens as we near nominee/election time. We'll see how many true 'Democrats' we have here - as opposed to a bunch of hype and superflous rhetoric. How sad for our side. (I could almost wonder if this is indeed a republican-induced blog...?)
Posted by: Duffman | March 19, 2007 at 06:46 PM
huh? Because we dont march in lock-step, we are "hype and superfluous"? Dear God, Duffman, the elections are a LONG way off...why do I have to decide right this minute who I support? And why do I have to support or talk up any of the candidates? Hows about you relax, read and study what happens over the next few months?
Posted by: sparky | March 19, 2007 at 06:52 PM
Hows about you relax, read and study what happens . . .
Now that 's a novel thought for the Duffman.
Posted by: joanie | March 19, 2007 at 06:57 PM
And, regardless of what transpires during the run-up I expect you to yes 'march in lock step' and support the next POTUS, Mrs Clinton. [She WILL win...and you can write that in stone!]
Posted by: Duffman | March 19, 2007 at 07:14 PM
Ah, such intellect you have, Duff. Calling it before the facts are on the table. No wonder we're in deep doo doo . . .
Posted by: joanie | March 19, 2007 at 07:21 PM
I think the 'facts' on ON the table! 'Facts' being $money...Mrs Clinton has it and controls it; therefor SHE WINS...plain and simple..do you actually doubt that. Follow the money..not just a saying but a way of political life...don't you think?
Posted by: Duffman | March 19, 2007 at 07:28 PM
...and since when does calling a political race take 'intellect'?
Posted by: Duffman | March 19, 2007 at 07:29 PM
bingo...lol
Posted by: sparky | March 19, 2007 at 07:33 PM
What do you mean bingo? I thought calling the race took intellect . . . even though voting doesn't seem to.
Besides, isn't that how we got Bush? I think there is a lot of money still out there waiting to decide. But, who knows?
Also, a lot of that money on the republican side financed hit ads like the Swiftboat liars . . . Hillary Clinton hasn't seen the worst of it by a large measure. We'll see, Duff.
Posted by: joanie | March 19, 2007 at 07:37 PM
"We'll see, Duff."
Oh, I see 'we'll' all hang around and refrain from outward support of THE candidate and then jump on the band wagon at the end...how gallant...how brave...how supporting of the Democratic Party!....[I tell you Bla'm...sometimes I wonder about the real intent of this blog]
Posted by: Duffman | March 19, 2007 at 07:41 PM
I don't support the party! Haven't you figured that out yet? I support the candidate whose values and beliefs I subscribe. You are a dittohead on the left if you do otherwise.
Once the candidate has been picked, I will support him or her. You're a knucklehead, Duff. No wonder we have such poor candidates and our democracy is going to hell in a handbasket.
god! save me from such fools . . .
Posted by: joanie | March 19, 2007 at 07:45 PM
"Once the candidate has been picked, I will support him or her."
DUH! Therefore you support the party!...one who waits and lets others decide for you...WOW!
Posted by: Duffman | March 19, 2007 at 07:51 PM
One who takes an active role in making sure we pick the right candidate. So, Duff, tell me why she is the right candidate please.
Try to include some facts . . . if you don't know what a fact is, check in out in Merriam Webster online.
:)
Posted by: joanie | March 19, 2007 at 07:53 PM
OMG what part of '$money' don't you get? Mrs Clinton has been a tireless worker bee for generating Democratic funds. Those funds are as much as committed to her (unless she self-destucts). She is OUR STANDARD BEARER...don't you get it.
God please help us get thru this election despite ourselves!!!
Posted by: Duffman | March 19, 2007 at 08:01 PM
"Try to include some facts"
You take all your 'facts' and give me all the $money and see which one generates more votes!
Good Nite & may God Bless Us Everyone!
Posted by: Duffman | March 19, 2007 at 08:05 PM
Ah, you get the money part . . . why don't you get the republican money part? Good night, Duff.
Posted by: joanie | March 19, 2007 at 08:12 PM
It's night? Are you a night-troller, Duf?
Posted by: FREMONT | March 19, 2007 at 08:32 PM
Good morning everyone! It's a brand new day and I've had my 'soy' so what shall it be today?
Anyone doubt that Mrs Clinton has raised more $money than any of the other folks running? Anyone doubt that $money is what drives politics? Why don't we all get on the same band wagon 'up front' and show what a united party we can be and realize that at best Obama and the others are running for VP!
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 05:25 AM
Oh and THIS time around the $ that the Repugnants have really doesn't matter. The big elephant in the room is IRAQ. They have discounted themselves completely. Too bad those funds wont go to something worthwhile. It's OUR's for the taking unless we self-destruct.
Positive confidence and unity will beget the White House and undo the last eight years!
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 05:30 AM
Oh, and I'll add this in hopes that it might conveyed to those who make decisions.
I personally believe that the Democratic machine is in error in trying to minimize Bill Clinton.
Former Pres Bill Clinton is a GREAT asset to this team and should be brought into focus more. OMG can you imagine Mrs Clinton appointing Bill Clinton as Secy of State...someone who not only can speak to our foreign friends but who can get along with them also and is liked. I hope we change stragedy soon and incorporate Mr Clinton into the ads; his past has been beat to death and anyone who to dwells on it will cause a backfire on what they intend. Hopefully Mr Clinton will be doing more speeches and talks on behalf of Mrs Clinton; as he has such a dynamic way of reaching folks.
Any way, that's the way I feel.
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 06:21 AM
Someone here sounds kind of like a concern troll to me...."oh, I'm only trying to make you see what's good for you". what crap.
robinz
Posted by: robinz | March 20, 2007 at 06:37 AM
You can 'choose' to be a Paras positive instead of a Nisha negative you know? [You'll probably have to research that one!]
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 06:53 AM
Robinz..glad to see someone else is suspicious...
Posted by: sparky | March 20, 2007 at 08:52 AM
'fence-sitters'!!
you'll come around...
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 08:54 AM
"Robinz..glad to see someone else is suspicious..."
Spanky: good to be suspicious...better to be positively committed!
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 09:00 AM
Dudman the Baseless emits this foul odor:
Why don't we all get on the same band wagon 'up front' and show what a united party we can be and realize that at best Obama and the others are running for VP
A.) No
B.) Unbelieveable that Duff can unjokingly use the word "bandwagon" and be taken seriously ever again.
C.) By "we" do you mean you and your pocket mouse, right? Is your pocket mouse a registered voter? Hillary supporter?
Posted by: mercifurious | March 20, 2007 at 09:27 AM
D.) We are more than a year out. You are seriously clicking your heels together with a political eternity in front of you? Your funeral.
Posted by: mercifurious | March 20, 2007 at 09:28 AM
Good one Mercy Furious - Oh No - you got me!...and with bulleted points no less...I shant recover..but be assured that my mouse is indeed a registered voter. (At least in King County)
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 09:30 AM
It is way too early to get behind any candidate. True for both parties. How can voter desires be taken into account if you just anoint the queen? All candidates need to earn our votes. D, R or indy.
Sitting on fences this early in the campaign is empowering.
Besides, all the "front runners" on both sides of the spectrum are not real impressive.
And trust me on this one, this is not a Republican site. It is a talk radio place with some exciting political opinions expressed aggressively by all kinds of folks.
Posted by: chucks | March 20, 2007 at 09:43 AM
Glad the gotcha van could be of service.
Comment on your Hillary premature-ejac?
Literally more than a year before WE (sans your mouse) vote - a political eternity. Yet your willing to join Hillary's goose-stepping brigade?
Bla'M fam: Smell what I smell? This Duddman reeks of Repug mole troll.
Posted by: mercifurious | March 20, 2007 at 09:46 AM
And again, how can anyone take you seriously (ever) after unjokingly use the term "band wagon"?
Posted by: mercifurious | March 20, 2007 at 09:49 AM
And...to be clear; I'm a Mrs Clinton fan (not a Hillary fan) - as I've said I believe there's a 'package' there that s/be exploited. Think what you will; I will continue to positively push for Mrs Clinton. I will watch you all eventually fall in line as reactive 'followers'. But rest assured SHE WILL get your vote!
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 09:50 AM
'bandwagon': increasingly popular movement
and that's what Mrs Clinton's campaign is - not (as you put it)a "goose-stepping brigade"
What a terrible thing to say (too much UTube watching?)
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 10:00 AM
The bandwagon will be whomever the Democrats put up against the Republicans for most on the left...be it Hillary or anyone else. There is so much distrust and enmity toward the Republicans right now and the current scandals aren't helping. It also helps the Dem winner that the top 3 Republicans look like a bunch of sock puppets to most of their base.
Posted by: cowpotpi3 | March 20, 2007 at 10:05 AM
Again, Duff uses the term "Band wagon" like it's a good thing, yet burps this swill:
I will watch you all eventually fall in line as reactive 'followers'.
In other words, get hooked-through the-gills earlier rather than later. Count me out of both. And thanks for the stupid straw-man there.
Have fun with your Britney Clinton popularity/personality contest. One ounce of slung mud will spoil that party right quick. "Cult of Personality", anyone?
Personally, I'll wait until the DNC 08 platform is drafted. Then I'll read it (read the RNC platform), compare it with my own views, and then choose. You want to choose now based on the swimsuit competition? Your funeral
Again Bla'M fam, time to check behind Great OZ Duffy's curtain. I smell a bald fat Repug flipping switches.
Posted by: mercifurious | March 20, 2007 at 10:08 AM
"In other words, get hooked-through the-gills earlier..."
Nope, just POSITIVELY SUPPORT earlier and help get the wave rollin..
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 10:16 AM
"You want to choose now based on the swimsuit competition?"
Believe me if that were the basis, Mrs Clinton w/not have my support....ha
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 10:21 AM
Again, more Duff swill:
Nope, just POSITIVELY SUPPORT earlier and help get the wave rollin
A.) I will POSITIVELY SUPPORT the issues that I believe in - and do everything to push those issues into the 08 DNC platform (what really counts in the end).
B.) I will not play your American Idol personality contest this early in the game. I will not POSITIVELY SUPPORT any personality. Again, go ahead and dial-up Simon and press "08" for Hillary. Your funeral
Posted by: mercifurious | March 20, 2007 at 10:24 AM
Any way enuf (probably too much) said on this - let's (me and my mouse) get back to the topic at hand..Luke Burbank as co-anchor.
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 10:24 AM
Once more because he just reeks of mole troll:
Bla'M fam, check behind Great OZ Duffy's curtain. I see a bald fat Repug flipping switches.
Posted by: mercifurious | March 20, 2007 at 10:25 AM
That connotes a 'negative' so beneath you...remember you 'choose' to be negative; it's ALWAYS a choice.
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 10:28 AM
Go ahead and scold the Bla'M fam and Dems for not joining your premature-ejac bandwagon (for an admittedly non-desisive candidate).
I'll continue pointing-out the obvious Repug mole troll.
Posted by: mercifurious | March 20, 2007 at 10:35 AM
Finally, interesting (possibly revealing) how you assume I'm a 'he'....ha
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 10:37 AM
And yes you're right, you choose to be a cheerleader for a popularity contest bandwagon this early in the game. It's ALWAYS a choice.
I'd say that choice connotes a negative so beneath you, but it's pretty much right where it should be
Posted by: mercifurious | March 20, 2007 at 10:38 AM
Will be watching...and waiting...
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 10:41 AM
Yeah, silly me. What with the name DuffMAN and the email address "jackduffenais", why would anyone assume that you're a man?
Then again, people assume Anne Coulter is a woman.
I'm just sayin' what everyone is thinkin'
Posted by: mercifurious | March 20, 2007 at 10:43 AM
Hahahahaha; so THAT's how you reason...very good!
Posted by: Duffman | March 20, 2007 at 10:49 AM
