In a stunning display of the generosity they're known for, and an unheretofore seen spirit of forgive & forget, KIRO has extended a gift to BlatherWatch- 2 free tickets to their free event tonight, The Battle of the Talk Show Hosts.
(We're looking at the upside- at least we won't have to declare them as income. This is the first gift we've received from the station, and we're hoping it won't be the last. Hint: we're up to here in mugs, totebags, and tickets to free events...).
We've taken them up on their offer, even though Program Director Tom Clendening is said to be bringing a baseball bat in anticipation of meeting us. (We kid Tom Clendening...).
They're really taking a chance- we weren't very nice writing about the last Battle. (We kid KIRO...)
Tonight's event is a debate on stage at Everett Events Center (Doors open at 6p--the Battle goes on the air at 7p, and will last until 9p) featuring the principals- Dave Ross, Dori Monson, New York Vinnie, (whom we understand wants to hurt us, too) Ron Reagan, Ron & Don. Here are driving directions and more promotional happy crap.
Frank "Shudder" Shiers will do the pre-game, David Goldstein will help somebody or another doing post-game wrap-up. Bryan Styble will be lurking backstage hoping Dori has a heart attack. (We kid Bryan...).
Is ReRa getting the second ticket? You can't take LindaWertheimer...she has fleas!

Having Shiers do pre-game could cost them listeners. I'll listen if I remember but won't be tuning in to hear Shiers, that's for sure!
Actually, the battle was pretty lame and uninteresting last time. It became sort of an orgy of egos . . . boring. Sure you want to drive all the way to Everett for this?

Name that movie: "They came all the way from Tarzana."

who could be listening to that when the Stanley Cup is on KONG?

So far, the "Battle" has been better than the last one, mainly because Mike Webb isn't there. Ron and Don aren't bad and Ron Reagan is articulate and NY Vinnie throws in some pizazz once in a while. There seem to be more populist views being aired and less polarization than the last time, which is better radio.
They all seem to agree that the Democrat Party are void of ideas and out of touch and unless they get some and take a different approach they'll probably have a tough time capturing the US Senate or House in the November elections. It is time for bipartisan majorities - look at the out of control spending, but moonbat leadership of a Howard Dean and the far left will make it tough road. Outside of the microcosm of liberal blogs - most people prefer moderation and a reasoned approach over reactionaries (both extreme left and right).
Illegal immigration might turn out to be a wedge issue, but some constructive ideas are being thrown out - too bad they can't bottle them and send them to Congress. Dave Ross is getting testy about it though.

I did just tune in and they are more energized than I've heard before. Dave is a little testy and tentative sounding. . . interesting. I sure don't like Dori but do agree with the prop tax thing . . . I don't believe people should be taxed out of homes. (I know there's a lot more to be said, but I won't say it!)

Ron Reagan is giving Dave a run for his money in the "common sense" and intellectual integrity categories. Wish I could hear more of him during the day. Actually, I guess it is good news that KIRO now has two interesting and intelligent hosts.

Without Mike Webb the battle of the talk show host isn't worth listening to, in my opinion. Dave Ross to me is a light weight who is afraid to confront the knuckle dragging neo-cons, even with facts. As for the rest of KIRO's host, they are mindless regressives, or I haven't listened to them. I wouldn't be either since they took Mike and Erin off the air. KIRO is dead air space!
