~~David Field, Entercom President & CEO, Regional VP Deborah Kane and Senior VP/Programming Pat Paxton were in town yesterday to oversee the reinstatement of actual programming at KIRO and deliver "a 2006 'State of the State' presentation, share insights regarding the overall media landscape, the radio industry in general and Entercom in particular," according to the email Jerry "Wet Work" McKenna sent to staff.
~~We see dead people. We'da liked to have asked David about the FCC payola investigation of the company, and the Native American spiritual "cleansing" ritual they arranged to get rid of all those negative spirits hanging the crannies of the Bala Cynwyd Entercom home offices. Woo. Woo.
~~The new Ron Reagan show to start May 1- will be just an hour long- it's baffling to many around the KIRO news room. What's really going on? everyone wants to know. Is he getting on-air mileage in order to launch a syndicated show? What can he do in an hour? Could he take calls? Chief political analyst? what happens to Carl "Wall of Words" Jeffers?
~~The big losers: the news department are really deflated after losing that evening news hour they only so recently gained. Expect more newsies to bail. Dori Monson, the whiny weasel, who was bumped up an hour to 1-4p, is (though Tom Clendening denies it) reportedly pissed and hit the roof in that funny little way he has.
~~What will KIRO do with the long stretch between 9p and 5a? They've gotta do something before May 1- expect more announcements. Dave Dolacky- where are you?
~~ Ouch, that stings, Dep't. John Procaccino, strung along all these months laboring under the illusion he might be picked for the morning slot he so valiantly defended, was defenestrated smartly, and the spot given back to Dave Ross. Most everyone had outspokenly wished it and many had openly predicted it and it couldn't have been easy living with that. Insult to injury: word has it that Procaccino (and Frank Shiers) were paid just $250 per show, while the strange little Bryan Styble, (KIRO Sundays 1-5) who makes even the janitor ladies feel uncomfortable, gets $300. Ironically, after all these months, the nearly normal Styble ended up better off than the loyal Procaccino- at least Styble has a shift, even though it's in the middle of a weekend night.
~~The elephant in the room: what will they do with "The Truth," KTTH that's foundering away downstairs in the Abu Ghraibe of Eastlake?
~~How many of Dave's listeners will come back? That's the real question. A source writes: "As you've seen from your comments section, a number of people who used to listen to his show have already changed their habits, either by switching to NPR or Thom Hartmann. He's effectively been out of that time slot since July 2004 when he left to run for Congress. Unless they're going to back this change up with a major marketing campaign, I'm not sure exactly how they expect to undo that damage."
~~Entercom Market Manager, Jerry "The Axe" McKenna is now focusing on KIRO. Fired are long time General Sales Manager Dennis McCormick and Mike Webb phone-it-in producer Jeremy Grater. Our guy asks, "Why fire the GSM? Can he be responsible for failing sales numbers when a paralyzed programming management is not capable of plugging three on-air time slots?"
~~Ann Wog, Allan Prell's former producer is leaving for a job at WMAL in D.C. Word is, after seven months of Procaccino and uncertainty, she bolted.
~~Another reason why they might be having trouble filling the slots is because no one worth an ounce of salt is applying for the many openings at KIRO. Our guy in San Diego says: The word in the biz is "Stay away from KIRO."
~~Speaking of Allan Prell, he's preparing for syndication and has put up this excellent website: click on it for lots of audio and a smidgen of video of the audacious old coot.
~~Whoo boy, is everything sacred? We really caught the shit about speaking litely about Tony Snow's colorectal cancer. Dear Linda wrote: "You're not only not funny, you're weird, mean and out of line." ACCDAT (an Iranian name) dropped this bomb: "I hope that you do not get cancer. But if you do, you suffer harshly as long as you live. YOU ARE A PRICK." Jim McIntyre summed us thus: You are scum plain and simple..." Boyo, that hurt our feelings but as we've tried to explain: according to the Comedy Handbook, colorectal cancer is funnier than, lung cancer, but not as funny as testicular cancer. "Rectum? hell, it killed 'em!" Etc.
~~The G.W. Bush Gamboling Syntax Honorable Mention goes to Mike Webb for this sentence from his blog: "I got some strange posts TO him as well -- discussing liberalism: If anyone for a moment actually believes it's not a liberal position to criticize Bush over the Chinese Premier visit and the hyporcisy [sic] of dissent last week, always looking for the right democratic front runner, bringing on guests Joseph Wilson and Scott Ritter to talk about Bush's unending war -- anyone who says "he's not one of us": I heartily agree." Huh?
~~Dori for Congress? According to David Tatelman, Dori Monson told startled listeners
recently that a member of the White House staff (!) had taken him aside
and offered to support him if he would run for Congress. the modest
family man said he demurred citing his need to spend more time with his
kids, and the republic was spared. David says what was more shocking
was when Monson said his biggest dream was to someday be a baseball
commentator or announcer! "Egads! He wants Dave Neihaus' job! We can
never let this happen. The whole idea is repugnant to me. We have to
stop this now. It can never happen!!!! "Frankly, David, we can think of
plenty of people who'd love to see Dori get his dream and go to
KOMO.
~~
Got some talk radio poop to scoop? spread the love and drop us a line at
[email protected] Discretion? Of course.
I emailed KIRO to ask if I would be able to podcast Ron because I work and not a word back. It would be nice for them to t least say they have no clue if that's what the problem is.

I have a slow brain.
Carl Jeffers talks so fast that after the first two sentences I am hopelessly lost.
Plus it is not possible for him to just answer a question. He rambles on and on and on.
He preaches.
Ron the "R" is articulate. He reasons. I like him. Doesn't mean I agree with everything. But he makes me think.
Carl just yaps and won't shut up.
Okay, thank you

Mike,
In regards to "too soon for ass cancer jokes," perhaps you've learned what we already know in radio: every individual gets to decide HOW goddam sensitive they are. YOU get to hear/read about it.
Now...I've heard you described as a "thespian carbuncle of bile" and I'd imagine you've heard worse. My advice is: "If it bends it's funny, if it breaks it's not."
-Alan Alda "Manhattan Murder Mystery"
(BTW- I asked Webb "What's a carbuncle?")

The novelty of a a liberal son of a classic conservative president wore off a long time ago. Ron Reagan couldn't hold his own against conservative lightweights Tucker Carlson and Scarborough on MSNBC, thats why he is no longer on the imploding cable news net. (Actually, maybe he is a perect fit for KIRO).How will he do any better in the wild world of talk radio? He is a placeholder for a noontime newscast. Time for career change number four (dancer, photographer, commentator, ?)

Styble gets paid 300$ per night????
All sorts of hoo jokes there, but I will pass on them...
Posted by: sparky | April 28, 2006 at 09:15 AM
Dori's pissed? Aw, too bad.
I heard the "Dori for congress" thing - I felt the bile rising in my throat and quickly flipped on some of Tom Petty greatest hits.
Posted by: sara | April 28, 2006 at 11:53 AM
I was tuning in at 3am while Ray T was on a commercial break and Styble claimed to have all his lines full, a point he made more than once in case someone was listening.

yes vg
Posted by: gusto and poor | April 28, 2006 at 12:19 PM
Dori's mad? Then he can do what he'd advise his listener(s) (both of them) to do: find another job elsewhere.
Posted by: Dana | April 28, 2006 at 01:22 PM
Dori probably thought he owned that time slot. I guess "The Big Show" isn't so big it can't be pushed over by a liberal elitest like Ron Reagan who's just doing this to pass some time during his day.
The station's public relations is such a hand job, Ron and Don were talking about the new line up last night, someone called and asked where Erin Hart went, they said they didn't know and maybe she got a better job in a better market. Someone asked about Proccocino, they said their's definately other oppurtunities for such a talented guy in Seattle, or a market such as New York. Uh hu, keep on jerkin'. Dori Monson was acting as if he were excited about the new changes and bemoaned being the only "moderate" left on the station.
It's one thing to omit ugly details but it's another to completely lie outright.
Posted by: Andrew | April 28, 2006 at 01:51 PM
Another thing I almost forgot, a lady called in and said when she heard the news about the schedule shift she called all her friends and that they cheered out loud when they heard the news, and I have a fucking bridge I'd like to sell you.
Posted by: Andrew | April 28, 2006 at 01:54 PM
If Dori thinks he owns 12p-1p, he's got a pretty short memory. Until a couple of years ago there was a KIRO noon newshour and he had... 1p-4p. When Prell came aboard and Ross was moved to afternoons I believe the noon newshour went away and Dori worked 12p-4p for awhile.
Posted by: TomF | April 28, 2006 at 02:45 PM
Dori reaaly mad, cause he needs that hour between 3-4pm to hustle up more dog kibble sponsors.
Posted by: sara | April 28, 2006 at 03:19 PM
Blathering Michael-
Thanks for the link to Allan Prell's site! It's just great to know that Allan is alive and kicking, and planning his syndicated show. And as usual, his photos gave me a much needed chuckle. Boy, with the state of things in this country (gas prices through the roof, Iraq War, political scandals... you name it) we can all use a few laughs. Thank goodness for Allan Prell!

Posted by: stodge charger | April 28, 2006 at 05:10 PM
I'll bet Dori's pissed because that's one less hour he gets to spend with his daughters' nubile friends. I can't believe intelligent parents let a creep like that around this girls.
Posted by: Billie | April 28, 2006 at 06:17 PM
Can you imagine the "values" those girls will grow up with? I've thought about that before, too. Kinda sad.

Does ANYONE on this blog have anything nice to say about anyone?
Not even one positive comment about anyone?
All negative?
All blathering natter?
Does it have to be entirely mean spirited?
Zounders, is our civilization in trouble!
Oh ... by the way ...
Dave Ross does a real good job in dealing with callers that do not agree with his own viewpoint.
Ron Reagan is articulate and is able to calmly state a viewpoint.
Dori Monson adds enthusiasm to each of his broadcasts.
Ron and Don are both highly skilled entertainers.
New York Vinnie knows a lots about sports.
Brian Styble knows a lot about science.
And so forth ...
There.
That wasn't too difficult, was it?
Posted by: Mac Lore | April 28, 2006 at 11:29 PM
"Dori Monson adds enthusiasm to each of his broadcasts."
So true...just like when he enthusiastically called homeless people "human garbage". And Adolph Hitler had great enthusiasm for his Final Solution too.
Posted by: Dana | April 29, 2006 at 07:37 AM
And NY Vinnie was so smart about sports he got axed from KJR.
Posted by: joanie | April 29, 2006 at 10:33 AM
Vinnie is eating himself to death. Why does't anyone reach out to this poor, fat man who is obviously crying out for help?

Wayne Cody did that too...

Dori's stand on illegal immigration is downright American. I know that I will get some flack for this, but that's not my problem.
The big lie out there today is that May 1st will be a march about immigration - What the dishonest media often leaves out is that it is a March by illegal aliens about them becoming American citizens and they are not reporting to work, to show the rest of us how much we need them, but they won't stop until they get rewarded with citizenship for their illegal behavior.
It just happens to coincide with May Day - the biggest holiday of the year in Communist bloc countries - therefore that day should be proclaimed Pinko de Mayo ! Local far left Marxist groups are also helping get the word out and fund the large protests scheduled for Monday. La Raza and even Moveon.org are helping out. I understand that Mexico is asking its people to boycott American products on Monday. Please join myself and others in boycotting Mexican products and establishments to show that a majority of the people will not reward lawbreakers with citizenship - nor do we plan to deport the 15million + non-citizens back to their country of origin.
Bottom line; I disdain the attitude of the corrupt Mexican Government, but also empathize with Mexican non-citizens who are trying to make a living as best as they can. At the same, they need to obey the laws when they are here and local authorities who we fund with our tax money are obligated to enforce these laws.

Posted by: stodge charger | April 29, 2006 at 04:02 PM
Disdain away, KS...I plan on going to dinner at the local Mexican restaurant to show my support of decent wages. If you want to boycott something..how about swearing off all products that are grown or raised in Washington using that illegal labor you are so against?
Oh, and I will watch Univision on TV too...
Joanie did you realize that those little baskets of flowers we got on Mayday were communist? Who knew?

You wouldn't know that illegals are marching by the way the mainstream media is reporting it. Why don't go to the march and ask some of the participants and see what kind of response you get - Stodge Charger ? Joanie - you can be like talking to a brick wall. Sparky's reaction is typical knee-jerk. Cute one about May-Day baskets - haha. Seriously though, do laws matter anymore or are we slaves to political correctness ? Problem is illegal aliens do not get paid minimum wages at Azteca or wherever - so your comment doesn't make sense. So you think we should give all 15+ million of the non-citizens automatic citizenship and open the gates for millions more - because you think that will help get your Democrat candidates elected ? Such a fine example to set for future generations ! I have way more respect for those who play by the rules. Clueless ? Only if you see the jist of this message.

Blather, blather, blather . . . generalize, generalize, generalize . . . or should I say "Fox-ilize, Fox-ilize, Fox-ilize? We're on to you and your lack of informed opinions, Klueless.
Get back in your box and protect yourself. Gosh, you certainly wouldn't want to hear anything that might actually inform your opinion.
Posted by: joanie | April 29, 2006 at 06:14 PM
Knee jerk? My knees are just fine.
actually, went for Mexican food tonight and there was a sign in the door saying they will be closed on Monday so they can go march.

"You wouldn't know that illegals are marching by the way the mainstream media is reporting it."
Maybe the MSM isn't reporting facts it dosen't have.
"Seriously though, do laws matter anymore or are we slaves to political correctness ?"
Yes, I think whoever leaked the info on a CIA operative should go to jail, if that includes Bush/Cheney
"So you think we should give all 15+ million of the non-citizens automatic citizenship and open the gates for millions more - because you think that will help get your Democrat candidates elected ?"
Isn't that Bush' whole plan with the 'guest worker' program?
Too bad it has backfired on Bushler on top of the other bad news that piles up daily...

Ross is great anytime. That said, KIRO has gone through some awfully good talent and can't seem to get the line-up right. What is going on? Usually, they fire the manager....don't they? Miss Proccy and think he was/is great. Glad to hear Prell will be available soon. My humble thoughts. signed a radio talk show junkie

Where to begin with you uneducated/educated fools? The system does not work! Queers are not normal. America is the greatest nation in the history of the planet and is the most giving and compassionate nation of all time! We are the best! And our people made this so. Queers are NOT normal but have their place. In the closet and out of the way where they belong! When we get back to normalcy, only then will the world be a bettter place!

Where is Michael Savage on your liberal radar? He surely knows more than any of you! His ratings you ignore?
Posted by: Eric t | May 06, 2006 at 08:24 PM
Any of you brainwashed libs able to debate anything I say without resorting to name calling or labeling? Savage is best 3-6 on KTTH. Can you debate him? Go ahead call and see! Do you show his ratings against your beloved Ross, who fled the timeframe to avoid humiliation? I thought not. Hypocrites as usual. Real Americans will fight for their country unlike you cowards.

THANK YOU ERIC!!! Good luck to you, though. It is a SERIOUS chalenge to communicate with most of the people on here without them completly crossing the line and insulting your inteligence and your beleifs. They are rude, crude and incredibly obnoxisous individuals with nothing but a LIBERAL AGENDA. There communist thoughts and beleifs are hard to ovecome but as I just mentioned a little while ago I have made that my mission! LETS WORK TOGETHER ERIC! I am herby offering you a strategic partnership with the goal of changing the hearts and minds of the LIBERAL MEDIA AND THERE MINIONS (this bunch).
To the homo liberal communists: THERE IS A BETTER WAY. I beleive the end is more near than it has been in years, but you can repent. You can change your ways. If you want my husband and I will work with you in person. Anyone who wants our help and guaidence can write a post requesting our email address and me or my husband will email it to you. (We don't want to post it here because the liberal filthy idiot homos will all start harassing us directly). But I want you to know that I will sinserly from the bottom of my heart do everything I can to change any of your sinfull ways. Eric, please let us know if you would like our email address so we can work together.

Joanie how do you watch C-Span if you dont have cable??
Posted by: sparky | May 06, 2006 at 10:05 PM
Basic cable which costs me $14 a month gives CSpan and CSpan 2. It also airs channels 2-29 which are the networks, hallmark, all the gov't channels, bravo, a canadian channel, KCTS arts. . . that's about all give or take one or two. I had expanded cable once when I worked nights and all I seemed to get were infomercials so cancelled it. There's not much I really miss considering the cost of full cable. I get what I want to watch most of the time.
At school we get all cable so I do watch sometimes . . . actually all I really like is Iron Chef so there you are! (and Olberman which I don't see much . . . ) I'm not at school for Stewart, Maher, etc. At least not that I know of.
Posted by: joanie | May 06, 2006 at 10:39 PM
I agree - Eric T. Dave Ross is udderly boring compared to Michael Savage. I like his irreverance and he could shake up the lefty ideologues who frequent this website regularly.
The problem is that Savage does not care for Bush, so the left's arguments have to exist of something besides personal attacks - and their rhetoric becomes vacuous. Unfortunately he has it pegged and doesn't mince his words about the other sinister politicians in DC and a number of them do not have a D beside their name.
