~~Mike Webb update: he fired his fancy celebrity lawyer, Bradley Marshall who was probably too darned expensive for what he needs him for. We still expect him to cop a plea- besides what we've already reported, the charging papers say that the Geico Insurance (the company he's accused of ripping off) policy numbers are issued by computer in sequential order. Mike's policy number falls between two others bounded on the day after the accident; even though Mike claims he took out the policy the month before the accident. We predict a plea bargain will be negotiated, and Mike will plead guilty to something lesser; but will never not claim he's innocent. He's that kind of guy...His current attorney appears to be one Mark Larrafiaga of Walsh & Larrafiaga.
~~Worst radio commercial nominee, 2006: "The Toe-Tent is a totally new and unique product that solves an age old problem. The problem of twisted feet has been going on since the first caveman covered himself with the first animal skin. This problem predates writing, it predates music, it predates speech, it predates every problem except the battle of the sexes (which also involves being in bed). To finally be able to sleep on your back and not have your toes jammed down by the bedding is GREAT! It's like a blessed relief from heaven!!"
~~Taped dayparts on KIRO? Well yes. Thoughtful reader Tom reports and we've now heard it too- Ron & Bomb, (m-f, 9p-1a) the shock jocks filling in Mike Webb's old slot, actually play old tapes of themselves presumably so they can get home early. Tom sez: "I’d never heard tape in any daypart [on KIRO] before, always live guest hosts when the regulars are absent. Poor show. They’re not even playing tapes from actual hires – it was tape of fill-ins. (I’d rather hear Dori tapes!) There goes 'live and local'.” We're betting KIRO has no idea that's happening- this is the station who does no airchecks- we hear it over and over from talent, "It's obvious," one told us recently, "they've never heard my show."
~~Not sure whether it was because BlatherWatch kept linking to it, (we'd like to think so) but Ron & Bomb's old morning show website with all the bare-naked wimmens (they flopped on The Buzz only a few months after they started) has been closed down tighter than a smut shop in Lynden. We can't take all the credit, there were some complaints from listeners, and while we like looking at the ladies as well as the next guys, and believe that sluts are an unfairly maligned underclass; we were glad to see the site disappear- just because of the way those two kept leering like Neaderthals.
~~A sharp Seattle caller on the John Carlson Show, got neocon Senator John McCain on the record about Terry Nelson, his senior aide 's dubious past. He was involved with Tom DeLay and his co-defendants trying to circumvent Texas campaign finance laws and is tied to the New England phone-jamming scandal. Here's the audio from Talk Check, a cool blog we just discovered which, if they get busy, may mean they'll listen to talk radio and we won't have to! McCain, beloved by so many progressives, is a sham and as conservative as your Aunt Toodie. Don't be fooled just because the conservatives hate him...
~~a vicious vicious attack on BlatherWatch by the Seattle Weekly they refer to us on their Blogwash list as 'random-punctuating' Were not taking that from dilettantes who keep office hours have copy editors and actually get paid for writing that tripe they write
~~OK, OK, Erin Hart may still be on staff at KIRO (we reported yesterday that she wasn't) but she doesn't work there...at least for KIRO. She does use their studios to do national fill-in particularly for Clear Channel's 760 progressive talk in Denver. Lou Pate uses their studios for fill-in work too, probably not for anything progressive, however.
~~It's so funny to hear the fatuous Bill O'Reilly waxing self-righteous about child molesters- kids are about the only females he wouldn't think are fair game for his creepy dandlings. MSNBC's Keith Olbermann has a great piece of video with Media Matters' David Brock talking about how he and his research staff systematically monitor The Big Giant Head, and how The BGH smears him and any media entity that disagrees with him.
~~Pat O'Day, that AM radio icon of Seattle's Pepsi Generation finally got around to wishing us happy birthday (it was Feb. 20). We're pretty proud of it because: a) he's a Republican b) he knew The Beattles. They weren't known for hanging around that much with conservatives, so that speaks to Pat's (we always call him Pat) good taste and great charm which he's now extended to us: "May I commend BlatherWatch on one year of service to the World in general and our Seattle Market in particular. "The Blathe" as I affectionately call it, ruffles feathers, brings discomfort, and creates general havoc, but only with those that richy deserve such stimulation. It's for them I reverse those treasured words of The Late JFK, "Think not what you can do for BlatherWatch, but rather, what BlatherWatch can do for you!"
How can Blatherwatch take credit for shutting down ronanddon.com?
I shut the website down...look at the archives. Now, I'll be responsible for having them fired!
I will also be responsible for removing Dori from the air! Bastard!

Aunti..can you work on Bill O'Lielly while you are at it?
Posted by: sparky | March 24, 2006 at 09:00 AM
Hey, for those bloggers that have not worked with Dori and been around him. Shut the fuck up.
Dori's show is an act. He get's paid his 6 figure salary to suspends his notion of who he is and what he stands for three hours.
His intention is to please management with high Nielson ratings for his target audience. I'm not a friend of Dori, but I admire his hutzpa and resourcefullness to challenge the status quo and purposivley take the other side of the 9-nooner shift and Rosses point of view. Until you've walked a mile in the shoe's of an on-air anchor or talk show host...sit the fuck down or get into the radio business, by starting as a board op. ad. writer, producer, anchor and a talk show host...then and only then will I give any of you mo fo's credence. P.S. You can listen to all the NPR, KVI, HOMO and satellite radio you want, but pound for pound, wit for wit, integity for integrity and news writing skills for news writing skills, the 710 KIRO NEWSTAFF is hands down, one of the best nationwide. Let me see anyone of you take a breaking story of a carjacking off the scanner, confirm it with SPD, get audio and write a quick lead with a sound bite that doesn't repeat any words that are in the lead, followed up with a one sentence outtro. And at the same time look up on Mapquest where the incident occurred, dispatch a reporter on the two way, while listening to the pursuit on NOW two scanners. I dare to say you bloggers would crap your pants and blow a fuse, if you had to perform those "regular" job responsiblities.
Have a great day in your critical world of having never being in the "shit" of radio.

I have been in radio and I believe that along with praise you do have to accept criticism. It comes with the job. Believe me, there are plenty of Conservatives doing that too liberals. Besides it shows him that he is making an impact.
Posted by: Mike Barer | March 24, 2006 at 11:49 AM
hey I love dori, but if he's taloring his show just for ratings, he's doing a pretty lousy job.
and in terms of the ron & don website, you guys/gals/liberal feminazis are way too prudish for your own good. Lighten up. Nobody forced you to their site. Kind of funny complaining over something you had total control of.
How about a compromise of a 4' rule and a tip jar?
Posted by: asfads | March 24, 2006 at 11:49 AM
Dori you are off the air soon!
The other day the racist Dori said that "black people look better when fat than white people." I have it on tape.
I am going to hold this a'holes feet to the fire until he is fired. I will sending to To at KIRO a compilation of evidence for his ass to be fired!
He's an arrogant, self-rightoeus, no good, spoiled rotten racist! He adds nothing to society.

Mac
You're an idiot.
As a businessman, if Dori makes a 6-figure salary at KIRO, that's the worst business decision a radio station could make. His ratings suck, his show sucks, he sucks. The guy is a "know-nothing" that never checks facts, has arguments all over the map, purports to be Libertarian (which he's not...I doubt he knows/understands all the Libertarian positions). He's an idiot.
Dori WILL BE OFF THE AIR.
Posted by: The Anti KIRO | March 24, 2006 at 12:26 PM
Dori alert:
Today Dori says he is going to have the guy who called Condolisa Rice a "coon" on his show today to tell his side of the story. This is sure to be a classic! Next Dori will be rehabbing David Duke.
Unfortunately, I cant wait around to figure out when it will happen so I'm going to listen to Mariners spring training instead.

Oh that was yesterday's news.
A sports announcer whiffed his words, while actually paying condy some heavy duty compliments about her intelligence and how it would be a good thing if she were in charge of the NFL. In his attempt to say " this would be a coup for blacks" at the same time thinking " this would be a "boon for blacks," he really screwed up and said " this would be a coon"...and immediately recognized what he had done and apologized. The head of the NAACP called the station and demanded that he be fired, which they did.
He was on another radio show and told how it all came down.
Dick Clark can use it on his next bloopers tape.

You're right, Big Mac. KIRO news is the best in town...(and boy you should hear what some of the newsies tell me about what they think of what KIRO management is doing to the news and the station!). My question: what has that got to do with Dori?
If I've never been in the shit of politics, does that mean I can't criticize politicians?

I'm sick of asses like Dori and Lou Pate being excused and rarionalized by apologists who claim they're just putting on "acts". As another poster said, you're responsible for the words you speak on the air. It is impossible for a truly cool or decent person to put on a radio "act" of meanness, bullying, or cruel mockery, and then put on his "nice guy' backwards ball cap at the end of his air shift. Not only "as a man thinketh", but also "as a man sayeth" , so is he.

Funny! Get into radio if you want to earn very little money and enjoy almost no job security.
Radio people are a self-referencing bunch who are far more concerned with radio gossip than with what their listeners think. I suspect that many of the people on this board know far more about KIRO's actual programming than anyone who works there because they actually listen from time to time.

If it was truly a slip of the tongue, was it really racism? And how exactly is this statement racist?:
The other day the racist Dori said that "black people look better when fat than white people." I have it on tape.
Did you think it was racist when that guy used the word "niggardly"? Remember that story?

Out of curiosity, what is your definition of the word, "racist?" Because it seemed to me like it was an innocent slip of the tongue.
Posted by: Anonymous because who cares? | March 24, 2006 at 05:38 PM
Very simple:
niggardly is a word, nothing racist about it
coon is an inappropriate racial slur
Dori steroetyping black women as "fat" is racist merely by that linkage. Dori in generally maintains many racist philosophies. The comment merely supported his recist profile.

Anti-KIRO:
I didn't ask for your vague feelings about whether these specific cases are racist, I asked you to please provide your definition of the word racist.
I question whether having a racial slur accidentally pass through your lips automatically makes one racist, but that's just my vague subjective opinion and doesn't have a lot of value.
Let's reason it through, starting with a definition of terms. Since you're so comfortable hurling the "racist" brand around, you ought to be able to give us one.
Posted by: Anonymous because who cares? | March 24, 2006 at 09:17 PM
Do any of you assholes that listen to Dori know who he is and what his values are? It sounds like all of U that listen to Dori, for the sole purpose of claiming he's a racist are practicing what your against.
IE/EG: You're judging Dori based on what you hear him say...just the same as someone judging someone based on the color of their skin.
Is it not true that an african american can say politically correct ideas in public, but in private, speak of hatrid and racism?
Is it not true an African American can look mean, unforgiving and hateful in public, but in private, loves everyone equally?
mmmm

I thought you said he said blacks looked better fat than whites. That isn't the same as saying more blacks are fat than whites. Why aren't you mad at him, if anything, for saying white people *don't* look good fat? Isn't that an insult to white people?
Here's a thought: I would guess the rate of obesity among different populations is, well, different. Let's say, for the sake of argument, whites are more likely to be fat than blacks. Is it racist to point out this 'fact'?

racist
adj 1: based on racial intolerance; "racist remarks" 2: discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion [syn: antiblack, anti-Semitic, anti-Semite(a)]
Dori is not only racist by a male chauvinist. Dori was saying that a "black woman" looks better fat than a "white woman"...he is discriminating based on race...implying that white woman are either thin or ugly....and just because your "black" and fat you can still be attractive. By isolating a group of people and implying that they're generally fat, then slapping a label that "a black woman can pull off being fat"...is racist.
Most importantly, Dori's policies and verbal venom everyday on the radio is racist...from obtaining SSN's from the homeless and subsequently calling them garbage to his policies on mass transit, child care, affirmative action...and on and on.
The most racist policy Dori promotes is an "endless war" where the minority of african americans and latinos is over represented...now that the war has gone belly up...you never hear a word from Dori...the topics are cell phones in movie theatres and making fun of RV campers in Oregon...a true intellectual.
YOU'RE SOON FIRED DORI...Mark my word!

So if I, say, find black women more attractive than Asian women, and say so, I'm racist?

Dori is an inconsistent guy. In one moment he's saying "I never give my SSN to anyone"... "government should not intrude in our lives."
Now he wants to force homeless people to give us their SSN's...why...so we can track them and hold them accountable.
The money is pennies on the dollar compared to a 1 trillion dollar war. Try having some compassion Dori.

Small thing, Lukobe, but words do communicate intent and I think saying fat looks better on black women that white women does sound a little racist whereas "I'm more attracted to fat black women than fat white women" somehow makes it a personal choice . . . not that I like either very much.
One is sort of a racist generalizion and the other a personal preference. . .
Posted by: joanie | March 25, 2006 at 10:30 AM
I also think it buys into the notion of "mammy" which is probably a stereotype he accepts without realizing where it comes from or that he even has it.

I respect your opinion though I disagree with it in this case. But "not that I like either very much"? What's wrong with being more attracted to fat black women than to fat white women, or to white women more than black women, or to brunettes more than blondes, or whatever? As you say, it's personal preference.
Posted by: lukobe | March 25, 2006 at 10:52 AM
The fact that Dori goes OUT OF HIS WAY to point out a fat BLACK woman can pull it off is racist. Why mention race? Why does someone think that way other than in a discriminating way.
That is a racist way of thinking.
Posted by: The Anti KIRO | March 25, 2006 at 10:56 AM
Nothing really wrong with it but it just is kind of offensive somehow, Maybe you have to be a woman to feel it? You know, like the observation that obscenity is hard to describe but you know it when you see it? Sort of the old 'don't judge a book by its cover" kind of thing.
Stringing the words "fat white women" and "fat black women" along with my preference is for . . . is just sort of stupid.
Posted by: joanie | March 25, 2006 at 11:00 AM
BTW, you didn't address my "mammy" example. I still think that is true . . . undercurrents of old racist thinking.
Posted by: joanie | March 25, 2006 at 11:02 AM
I agree with your "mammy" statement and its offensive definition.
Frankly I am sick when guys like Monson, Savage, Hannity, Limbaugh, Snow and O'Reilly use this kind of language. They get away with it because nobody holds them accountable.
"Shallow racism" is aliv and well. This is why racism will always be prevalent.
In the case of Dori Monson, it's ridiculous that he prepares his sometimes considered racist statement with..."I'll probably get in trouble for saying this...ha ha ha..."
YES DORI, you're in trouble for saying that! Bastard!
The bottom line is Dori will misfire with his words one of these days and that for sure will cause him his job.
Posted by: The Anti KIRO | March 25, 2006 at 11:34 AM
It's personal preference to say "I prefer heavy black woman to heavy white woman" but it's racist to say with no uncertainty "heavy black woman look better than heavy white woman" because that would mean there's an absolute difference in beauty between races, but beauty is never absolute.
I can relate to the preferencial sentiment though. I personaly prefer how more black woman's bodies hold extra weight. IMO they seem to keep a curvier, rounder, more feminine figure as they gain weight. But, IMO, most non-black woman who put on that same weight would become stocky, flaby, big bellied, big chinned, etc. That's just my feeble opinion though, I wouldn't expect anyone else to see things the way I do.
Posted by: Andrew | March 25, 2006 at 12:01 PM
Nobody will see things the way you do because we all see things differently. Inch for inch, fat women are collectively the same. Some have their curves (fat) in the booties, others in the waists. Others in their legs and thighs.
Geez, can't believe you guys! I think that black skin is better at minimizing the faults of fat. And I think black skin - just like tanned skin - is beautiful. I'm very fair and gave always yearned for some pigment! My pigment shows itself as freckles. But, my freckles are beautiful too. :)
But, that the fat on black bodies is different than the fat on white bodies? Can you hear yourselves?
Posted by: joanie | March 25, 2006 at 12:17 PM
The physical differences between black people, whites, asians, latinos, what have you goes beyong pigmentation.
Have you ever seen white people put on makeup to look black, or have you seen Dave Chappelle dress up to look like a white guy? Did you notice anything odd about their apearance aside from skin color?
Posted by: Andrew | March 25, 2006 at 12:39 PM
Oh Andrew . . . body for body, I could find a similar one regardless of race. Besides, a huge percentage of Black Americans are mixed race. Goes back to those plantation days . . .
I bought stock in a genetics company once - didn't do very well - but I bought it after I saw a program on TV about how it research genetically a person's ancestry. One of their clients - a black school principal - found out he had no African American geens at all. He was East Indian, American Indian and something else. Boy, was he surprised.
Don't look to entertainers for your examples. Honestly!

I am documenting every mis-step Dori Monson makes. I am also investigating his personal dealings. Complaining on air that he's considering the alternative minimum tax with regard to his returns is an immediate red flag. I am suspicious that Dori does not approriately report income.
Findings will be copied to Tom at KIRO, the NAACP, the IRS and to the primary sponsers of his show.
This man needs to be removed from the air waves. He is dangerous. He fits the mold of a Tim Eymen or David Duke.

Look. I think most people would agree that 100% black people look different than 100% white people even if you painted us all blue from head to toe and mixed us all up. Different facial features at the very least would be highly evident.
For you to argue against this seems absurd. It's as if once you have your mind made up you won't let anyone convince of anything to the contrary.
