"I love it that 23 prisoners of the USS Cole bombing 'escaped' and are most likely to be back in the midst of al quida again"

Hopefully no one else shares this sentiment.

sparky

hyperbole is over your head?

ExDem

How dare your neighbors refer to FDR as a "chicken hawk". Just because he didn't serve in the military didn't take away from his ability as Commander In Chief.

I find it hard to believe that people that actually served in WWII would say something like that.

joanie

KS:
". . . we don't cut and run next month - that will send the enemy (the Islamofascists) the wrong message."

God only knows it is better to kill kids (American and Iraqi) than send the wrong message to Al Queda.

Back to the topic of Christian radio . . . I listen to Air America quite a bit. The rest of the time I've defaulted back to KUOW.

However, I sure wish Soros and the other progressive deep pockets would do what Christian radio has done: buy lots of small stations in small markets and build a listenership.

When media becomes one note, and it already has come a long way on that journey, it turns into brainwashing. I think that is what we have to fear more than anything else. Already, a president who has changed his story three times about why we went to war and who should have wear the label of having broken trust with the American people, is still considered trustworthy. It is unbelievable.

sparky

My WWII-era relatives often refer to Bush as " an asshole." Many of them are Republicans.
Serving your country does not automatically mean you think your government makes the right choices.

chris

Ex dem sez "How dare your neighbors refer to FDR as a "chicken hawk". Just because he didn't serve in the military didn't take away from his ability as Commander In Chief."

No ex demmie, no echo chamber for you, I was refering to our heros of the past relating to today's politicos and talking heads.

KS

Joanie - It appears that you don't understand the enemy we are up against. Trust me - They are they 21st century version of the Third Reich. There are two poor choices to choose from, but the cut and run will have the worst consequences of the two.

The WMD argument is hollow - the rabid left would keep denying the presences of WMD's in Iraq even if they were staring them in the face. Sadaam's tape will likely refute that point, but it won't matter - the secular progressives won't change their mantra. With that said, I would rather see McCain or Guilliani as President than Bush - he has done a mediocre job of foreign policy, but not as poor as Jimmy Carter - he is the absolute worst !

joanie

KS:
Why should I trust you over John Murtha? Afterall, he's the one talking to the generals off the record. What do you know that he doesn't? Please, please . . .let me know.

And as for the WMD's staring us in the face, aren't they supposed to be?

Scott Ritter and Hans Blix said that there was no evidence they were there. Powell's right-hand-man, a republican, quit the administration because Powell went before congress with information he thought beforehand was tenuous as best probably false; the son-in-law of Saddam defected and told us there were none because they had been destroyed at the end of the 92 war. He had every reason to tell the truth.

I guess you must be a pretty gullible conservative willing to believe anything your leader tells you in the face of so much evidence to the contrary.

KS

John Murtha's statements have been distorted by the MSM. He never said tuck and run, like you would like to believe - but to phase down and come home. You can do better than use Scott Ritter and Hans Blix as resources - they don't have much credibility (especially the former).

You have to be a pretty naive and gullible liberal to believe that the islamofascists won't bother us any more if we leave Iraq today. So, tell me then; What was 9-11-01 about ? It was brought on largely because Clinton and predecessors never did anything to deter them, and they only understand aggressive military action. An overwhelming majority of congress believes that we cannot afford to tuck and run, but want us to be removed in due time - that likely won't happen because the US military will want to set up and air base/military installation in Iraq.

BTW- I don't believe a fair amount of what Bush says about our progress in Iraq, nor do I believe the MSM - who is anti-Bush. The truth lies somewhere in the middle. Nor, do I believe what Bush says about his "guest worker program" for illegal aliens, but that's another story

joanie

I never said he did. Where did you get that?

joanie

"You have to be a pretty naive and gullible liberal to believe that the islamofascists won't bother us any more if we leave Iraq today. So, tell me then; What was 9-11-01 about ? It was brought on largely because Clinton and predecessors never did anything to deter them, and they only understand aggressive military action. "

Boy, are you brainwashed! Clinton and his advisors warned Bush that the biggest threat they faced was terrorism but Bush went back to the ranch and they put the Clinton warnings back in the drawer. They knew better . . . boy did they!

Also, George Bush himself said many times on many videos that Iraq wasn't connected to 9-11. I don't know where you get your information, but you better buck it up. Of course, the only way I can prove it would be to find the video tape. It has been played several times but probably not on anything you listen to or watch.

What's wrong with Ritter and Blix or do you know better than they do as well. You sure are smart. Maybe you should be running the country - God help us.

Well, we can agree on something when you say "I don't believe a fair amount of what Bush says about our progress in Iraq. . ." but I'd go further and say I don't believe most of what he says!

"tuck and run" - where did you get that? Murtha did say six months to a year. I'd go for the six months. But, of course, I care about people.

And, regarding terrorism and the US, we are more vulnerable now than we've ever been, thanks to Georgie.

BTW: I've copied here the show topics for today on Franken. Notice some of our "coalition of the willing" are leaving?

Show Topics, February 7
We discussed the following today:

Alberto Gonzales says President Washington conducted a lot of electronic surveillance, probably spied on Ben Franklin.

A new study by the Economic Policy Institute study details that most of Bush's job growth is due to government-funded jobs.

Coalition of the willing less willing: Britain; For example, the U.K., Italy and South Korea are making plans to reduce or even withdraw their troops by the end of next year, following other nations, such as Ukraine and Bulgaria, that have already started to depart.

AP: "A rehabilitation program at a church is facing allegations it forced people to work as telemarketers for 28 cents an hour under the threat they could go back to jail."

The numbers and analysis behind Bob Greenstein's budget assessment can be found at his organization's website.

McCain and Obama have at it.

From "al franken show" website and he gives links to reference every piece of information.

KS

I have to say that if you take Al Franken, Scott Ritter and Bill Clinton as gospel - there probably isn't much point to continuing this dialogue. I don't believe these people because they try to distort the facts and lie and have too much of a political agenda to be objective - they have been proven wrong - check out http://www.frankenlies.com
I will never convince you of the real truth as long as you continue believe their patented lies !

Not brainwashed - I don't believe Clinton.
Clinton did not warn Bush about the Islamofascists - show me the website you found that gem - It's a leftwing one, probably. I have heard both sides of that one and Slick Willie loses there. Also, why did Clinton do nothing about apprehending Osama in 1996 - when it was proven he could have done so, or retaliating against those who bombed the USS Cole in 2000 ? The mainstream media lies and covers up even more than Bush - because a vast majority of the reporters/journalists are ideologues and are not objective and only present one side of the story. If you watched/listened to both sides as I do, you might have a more realistic perspective of what is really happening.

You brought it up about Iraq not being connected to 9-11. There was some connection in that Iraq & Sadaam supported them, that's all - not involved in the planning - we know that, but where did that enter into anything I wrote ? Actually that is irrelevant anyway - the relevant part is that there definitely is a connection between Al-Qaeda and the insurgents in Iraq now.

You missed the point about 9-11 ! The point is that in the mideast we are fighting the Islamofascists - they were responsible for 9-11-01. Also what about what they did in France last November and also what about Spain in 2004 ? I would say that it smacks of the Third Reich - can you refute that in a logical argument ? I have heard the left and right's take on this. Neither of them have it right, but as long as one side keeps ripping the other side up and down, its going to be a long time until we do - if we continue be self-serving & refuse to work together.

joanie

No, you're right. You are omniscient and all-knowing. It would be silly for me to even reply!

You actually put out so much BS here, I don't have time to deal with it.

chris

"why did Clinton do nothing about apprehending Osama in 1996 - when it was proven he could have done so, or retaliating against those who bombed the USS Cole in 2000 ?"

In August 1998, President Clinton ordered missile strikes against targets in Afghanistan in an effort to hit Osama bin Laden, who had been linked to the embassy bombings in Africa (and was later connected to the attack on the USS Cole). The missiles reportedly missed bin Laden by a few hours, and Clinton was widely criticized by many who claimed he had ordered the strikes primarily to draw attention away from the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

chris

oh, this too

On 25 June 1996, a booby-trapped truck loaded with 5,000 pounds of explosives was exploded outside the Khobar Towers apartment complex which housed United States military personnel in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, killing nineteen Americans and wounding about three hundred others. Once again, the U.S. investigation was hampered by the refusal of Saudi officials to allow the FBI to question suspects.

On 21 June 2001, just before the American statute of limitations would have expired, a federal grand jury in Alexandria, Virginia, indicted thirteen Saudis and an unidentified Lebanese chemist for the Khobar Towers bombing. The suspects remain in Saudi custody, beyond the reach of the American justice system. (Saudi Arabia has no extradition treaty with the U.S.)

Maybe Bandar Bush can be of assistance.

KS

Joanie - funny that you didn't respond to my questions when I was asking for your take - just call it BS - whatever... I thought that you had an answer for everything.

joanie

So, why don't you answer Chris? Avoiding the hard ones?

sparky

Not even President Bush is trying to push that nonsense that Saddam helped Osama anymore......

chris

" I doun't uhh, I don't pay much ahtention anymore to where he's at"

"Freedoum, freedom's on the march, terror, freedom, terror, freedom. Antonyms, I need mour antonyms, it's uhh, it's hard work"

joanie

You guys, have you heard the "Hang on Stevens" song done to the tune "Hang on Sloopy?" It is a riot and very fun!

If you haven't and want to hear it, click on the Al Franken Blog on the bottom left side of Blatherwatch and scroll down to HANG ON STEVENS and you can download it.

I tried to link it but wasn't successful.

KS

"Not even President Bush is trying to push that nonsense that Saddam helped Osama anymore......"

Were you watching the same 9-11 hearings as I
was ? and why does this matter to anybody now ??
The premises have been established. Time to move on.

Lump

joanie sez, "Clinton and his advisors warned Bush that the biggest threat they faced was terrorism but Bush went back to the ranch and they put the Clinton warnings back in the drawer. They knew better . . . boy did they!"

So, if Clinton and his spineless cronies thought terrorism was such a threat, why didn't they take care if it when the first bombing of the trade center happened? Or the embassy bombings in Africa? Or the USS Cole? Because they didn't have the courage to do anything but lob a few cruise missles or bomb Serbia from above 15,000 ft. And Joanie, when you mention Scott Ritter, you lose all credibility, which was pretty slim at best.

joanie

What's the problem with Ritter except that you don't like him?

Chris gave a pretty good recount of the response to the Embassy bombing and USS Cole incident. Didn't you read it?

sparky

If winning the "war on terror" was so important to Bush, why did Bush divert money from finding Osama
( " I dont give him much thought
anymore") in Afghanistan to invading Iraq who never attacked us? Meanwhile, Osama makes tapes mocking us while feeling quite satisfied that our blundering has provided him with terrorists for generations to come.

chris

Ted Stevens has replaced Jesse Helms as the new skeletor--i'm waiting for the action fugure to come out

Barney

Perhaps FDR's lack of service might have had something to do with being paralyzed by polio?

Lump

joanie sez, "Chris gave a pretty good recount of the response to the Embassy bombing and USS Cole incident. Didn't you read it?"

Certainly I did. But lobbing a few cruise missles is laughable at best. Why didn't Clinton grab Bin Laden when the Sudan him on the tarmac ready to be picked up? What did Clinton and the spineless wimps do in the 3.5 years between Khobar and leaving office? What did the spineless do in the 1.5 years after the embassy bombings in Afrika? All the spineless did was pass a mess onto incoming administration and get out of town with mouth in gear.
But then again, blowing up an aspirin factory, an unoccupied building in Bagdad and the Chinese Embassy is sure showing how to be tough on the bad guys.

ExDem

FDR came down with polio at age 39.

I still can't believe that WWII veterans would refer to him as a "chicken hawk". Sure, we lost hundreds of thousands of lives in the war, but ultimately, we won. We shouldn't denigrate the memory of those lost soldiers by questioning the authority or motives of the Commander in Chief. It has never been proven that FDR knew of the Pearl Harbor attack in advance. And those that would suggest such a crazy conspiracy theory would be lunatics.
