How about Lewis Black the comedian of the daily show fame?

Well it be sort of a dream come true...but also very funny. Check this clip out.

Stephen Schwartz

Terry Reider?? Alan Prell? Proacacin/

Puhleezzz ...

these are light weights compared with Hart or Webb. If Kiro can not find a loca voice to rival 1090, they should just buy into the AirAmerica syndicate too.

Savage Parish Hart .. all have depth, some knoedge .. in each case different but worth learning from.

umo

Turi Ryder is lukewarm tapioca. She is bland and a total zero. Erin Hart is perfect for the 9-1am slot.

sclub

Very funny Umo.

Brian

what about the LIONEL show for KIRO ! New york VEn nice guy but bad radio, put Turi Ryder on New york Ven spot, and let vennie get back to the cheese burgers!

drool

Erin came across very unprofessional last Sunday night when she was slagging on her producer for losing contact information for the nights guests. If she really cared she'd not let that stuff out of here hands and/or have a backup. She brought it up time and again on the air which sounded bad.

Having said that I don't see anyone other than her to put on the air. Maybe she can grow up a bit.

darryl

Goldy! Goldy! Goldy!

dlc

Would love to hear Allen Prell back on...might have to change shifts though....9-1 is my prime 'beauty sleep' slot (God knows I need it)

Critter

Since I don't listen to the 9-1am spot, but never miss the 1-5am spot, I say move Lou Pate to Webb's spot and give Erin Hart the 1-5am spot. I wouldn't even want to date Lou Pate; why should I go to bed with him every night?!

Robby

Time for KIRO to admit it screwed up and get Alan Prell back in Webb's old spot. I gave up listening to KIRO in the evenings, Prell would bring me back to KIRO

Scrilla

this i know, KIRO needs to stop bothering people who left Eastlake for a better gig! we left for a REASON!! (David Fields indifference/more money).
stop! stop! STOP!! no more emissaries. no more cryptic phone messages. no more lunches with your ex-salespeople. just have Davey help you dig out of Ken Berry's hole.

p.s. I hear Maloney's available. no kidding.

Andy and Barney

Please, anyone but Erin Hart. Listening to her and that fat pig Martha G talk about current event is like listening to two old ladies gossip about the people living in their neighborhood.

JoAnne

Kiro is turning over any rock to unearth no-talent to fill in. Lately the ron and don duo in for Dave Ross is just pitiful. I nominate Erin Hart. She is experienced and proven. So there are some weak spots-she is still better than any of the fill in folks, including turi Ryder. For us females, it is about time we had a fulltime woman host with some political smarts.

windie

I hate savage with the intense fury of a thousand suns. He's entertaining, but a total ass... I think in about 10 years, he'll be another Webb....

Does ANYONE want that?

larry

I have read your most recent story. Are you sure you dont have a sexual thing for Mike. You are right he is such a blow hard. However, I have enjoyed Ron & Don while Dave has been on vacation. Suggest they be given a listen to and you decide. It sure would liven up the night. Come on, they would clean up. Brian Suits is a really snoozer and I cant stand Vinnie while he is gulping down his pizza. too bad they dont bring back sports line. Now that was real radio.

Bob

ITs JOHN not Frank Geeze

Kublai Khan

Erin Hart had this local ersatz israeli duo as a substitute for real israelis. Now israelis I know can handle criticism like it's no one's business and can laugh at themselves. But Erin Hart handled them very gently venturing at one point that people here may not dare criticize israel to their faces. It shows either that Hart thinks israel is above criticism or criticism in general is bad form. What a nutcase! She is a perfect progressive (progressive being a Democrat who is afraid of being a liberal).

Hopefull

I absolutely have sworn off KIRO
ever since Allan Prell bit the dust. I have my radio on all nice to catch "Coast to Coast" but if KIRO would put Allan in the M WEB spot, I'd go there in a nanosecond.

My vote is for Allan. But----- does KIRO have the balls to do it?????

Kublai Khan

A talk show host is just another person with opinions and a microphone. A good talk show host is a good entertainer. Almost everyone in the list (with the possible exception of Allen Prell who was sort of weird and thus entertaining) fails on this count.

Hopefull

sorry folks. My post should have read "all NIGHT" Also I guess
Mike Webb does have two b's.

Mercenary

I was dead then Erin Hart screetched I came alive again just to turn the radio off.

Fluffycat

Erin Hart: no, a thousand times NO! For all the reasons mentioned and more.

I like Turi Rider but I think Allan Prell would be my first choice. I like John Procachino right where he is.

And I wish KIRO would deep-six Dori Monson; on top of everything else, he's almost as shrill as Erin. Oy veh!

Seabeck

Does anyone remember Doug Glant? Maybe a little too far right, but he had a show along with Erin Hartless, James Golden and John Carlson on Talkspot.com from 1998 - 1999. (Sounds like JC's new producer was from his Talkspot days). Doug was good, but I do not think he would do such a late evening gig. What about Peter Weissbach?

sparky

KGO is an excellent station to listen to in the evenings..you can stream it if you cant get the reception :-)

Andrew

Off Topic: Dori Monson

Two problems, first I'm suspicious that he might be getting payed to promote a product and masquerading it as a show topic. His topic is a product that YOU CAN BUY RIGHT NOW AT A WEBSITE HE EVEN SPELLED OUT! A device that turns off TVs in public. When he was bantering with the product's inventor he sounded just like these cheese balls on a Ron Popeil infomercial. He asked the guy how it worked, like as if you'd have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. He also informed me of the product's cost: $19.99. Is any of that is relevant to the debate itself? NO.

The second and most damning problem is that HE SUPPORTS USE OF THE PRODUCT. He's anti-interference until something annoys him then suddenly he's first in like to interfere.

Who can stomach that? He obviously gets ratings by making all the other "if it feels good do it" hypocrites feel emboldened and righteous. Every day between 12pm-3 it's as if KIRO takes a fat dump forgets to flush the toilet.

K

Alan Prell hands down first choice. Maybe if he agreed to a little training on how not to turn an advertisement for a paying customer into a joke on them (great for us listeners - bad for business). Plus, KIRO could relax a little in that dept, because from 9-1am the clients should really expect a little more vamp to keep people's interest. If they knew what they were doing, they would search for clients that Alan could have "fun" with, but still make it beneficial for them too.

K

Andrew - right on about Dori's - "if it feels good (to Dori) do it" topics - especially the ones when he takes pride in bucking the "politically correct" route. He often misuses that term as well, and paints something thats just about plain decency and common sense, not PC.

budley

I bombarded Kiro with e-mail to get rid of Allen P.I listened to Dave R for years and Prell was the most closed minded host I have ever heard.Dori is great and thats all thats left.

Andrew

budley you disgust me.

jt

I can understand conservatives (regressives)disliking Mike Webb, since he treated them like they treat progressives, but progressives, I don't understand. Could it be that some progressives don't like gay men. Or is it because Mike has a gun. Many progressives are as ignorant and afraid of guns as regressives are of abortions. Could it be that Mike was a in your face, no holds bar, type of host that put the moronic, follow my Republican leaders at any cost, regressives in their place.
He was my type of progressive host, very intertaining, with lots of facts to back up what he was talking about. And had many guest that knew what they were talking about. He was the progressive's answer to all the regressive talk show host. Since 710KIRO took him off, I have stopped listening to it, except for the Ciscoe Morris show on Saturday mornings. Also when Martha G says that she will be on the Erin Hart show, I read her web site every day, I then tune in until Erin's screeching becomes too much, then turn the radio off.
The 9 PM to 1 AM time slot is my best time to listen to the radio, so unless 710KIRO brings Mike Webb back or some one like him, or brings Alan Prell back in that time slot, I wouldn't be listening. Many of the other progressive people listed for this time slot are facts challenged, weak kneed, afraid to confront, Alan Colmes want a be's. I just can't listen to that pitiful type of person.

Willis

Turi and Erin both suck. Prell kinda sucks, but would be an improvement over Webb. There has to be a great flame-throwing liberal who's working in a small-market some place who's looking to move up. It's time for Clendening and Crew to take the time and do a comprehensive search for the right person - cuz they don't have that person at KIRO right now.

umo

Will Mike Webb be rehired if he is aquitted?

Caytie

Regarding a replacement for Mike Webb: Please, please don't suggest Turi Ryder. She is annoying with a capital A. And why does Blatherwatch keep saying Ryder is such a great liberal? She is just as likely to argue the conservative side of an issue as the liberal.

Last week she spent an hour deriding Rachel Corrie's parents who went to Israel and were almost kidnapped- how foolish they were to go, and how Rachel was out of her mind to stand in front of a bulldozer. I don't know what I think about Rachel's choices or those of her parents. But I, as a progressive, do respect and admire them for standing up for what they believe in, even when they put themselves in danger in the process. Most progressives I know would give the Corries credit for standing up for their daughter and her convictions. But not Ryder. To her they are just fools. Was that all she could think to talk about that hour? Considering the state of our nation and world, there were so many other issues she could have brought up instead of verbally kicking a couple who tragically lost their daughter.

Also, Ryder recently talked about how millions of Americans are getting further and further into debt by buying things on credit. Her opinion was that it's really okay, since everyone is doing it and someday the government will probably bail us all out (laugh, laugh)... Again, I do not see how such a cavallier attitude about consumer spending fits with someone who is supposed to be a progressive. Americans consume a huge percentage of the world's resources, and have little regard for people who live in other parts of the world. It is one of the reasons why so many around the world hate us. Our consumeristic and selfish ways are pathetic and cause a great deal of harm.

Ryder comes across as a spoiled, SUV driving, suburban soccer mom who has no clue what is going on around the world, and frankly doesn't care to know.

Now, back to a replacement for Mike Webb- Allan Prell is BY FAR the very best choice. I'm sorry that Mike is gone (I enjoyed him most of the time and forgave his faults), but since that is the situation, I believe that KIRO should do the right thing and offer Allan the 9pm - 1am spot. My guess is that KIRO lost thousands of listeners when they fired Allan. This would be the perfect way for them to redeem themselves and to bring back those listeners to the fold. I, for one, would tune in every night.

KIRO- please, please bring back Allan Prell!!

Lump

Oh, woe is all of you loonies, progressives, and liberals. You're such a bunch of whiny asses. You bashed Prell all the time when he was on and he got booted and you've been sobbing since. You demonized Webb, who needed the boot and now he's gone you're whining over him. It seems Dave Ross is the only one left now that fits your criteria for a talk show host and he's about the most boring personality in the Puget Sound. Perhaps, just perhaps the broadcast spectrum is changing and that's why progressive, liberal media is floundering. The print media is cerainly in the toilet with the two main lefty papers losing money and laying off and one on the verge of folding if the other gets its way. Perhaps the politics from the left never were as high as they were made out to be and the Mariners broadcast carried the financial burden for the entire KIRO radio station. Maybe you all end up having to move to Portland which seems to be gaining strength and turning into a mecca of loonieisn and financial chaos. And take McDermitt with you. And maybe put a suicide watch on Andrew before he goes off the deep end.

Patrick Buchanan, among the most conservative pundits and presidential candidates in Republican history, admitted that he could not identify any allegedly liberal bias against him during his presidential
candidacies. "I've gotten balanced coverage, and broad coverage--all we could have asked. For heaven sakes, we kid about the 'liberal media,' but every Republican on earth does that," the aspiring American ayatollah cheerfully confessed during the 1996 campaign. And even William Kristol, without a doubt the most influential Republican/neoconservative publicist in America today, has come clean on this issue. "I admit it," he told a reporter. "The liberal media were never that powerful, and the whole thing was often used as an excuse by conservatives for conservative failures."

Given the success of Fox News, the Wall Street Journal editorial pages, the Washington Times, the New York Post, The American Spectator, The Weekly Standard, the New York Sun, National Review, Commentary, Limbaugh, Drudge, etc., no sensible person can dispute the existence of a "conservative media."

Conservatives are extremely well represented in every facet of the media. The correlative point is that even the genuine liberal media are not so liberal. And they are no match--either in size, ferocity or commitment--for the massive conservative media structure that, more than ever, determines the shape and scope of our political agenda.

oops forgot :
This article was adapted from Eric Alterman's What Liberal Media? The Truth About Bias and the News (Basic), published in February (www.whatliberalmedia.com).

wsb

Oh my gosh, good RIDDANCE to A. Prell, you can't be serious. I nominate some out-of-work local pol like Mike Lowry or Norm Rice (does he still live 'round here?). Someone who's done something, love 'm or hate 'm, more than just yap for a living.

joanie

Dang, getting used to new radio personalities is tough. I didn't like Allen, then I sorta liked Allen, and then I mostly liked Allen. I didn't like Ryder - still don't very much like Ryder - but better than before. One thing she does is mix up the topic menu a little more. Still, we need a good host who can bring fire and passion to liberal causes and Webb did that and so does Erin. She's got some idiosyncracies that sometimes get on my nerves, but liberal talk, facts, passion are all there.

Some of us want informative, interesting guests and discussion of local and national topics; others want entertainment. I don't know if it is possible to have both. Well, actually it is. Since Dave's been gone, I've listening almost solely to Air American and Al Franken. He can do both. Sorry, I don't know of anybody else who can.

I know I don't like milquetoast (sp?) hosts like Procaccino and Vinnie. Too much nicey-nicey. I. too, think Ryder is just a liitle too smug for my taste.

One of my friends who is a staunch laborer for the dems in WA said KIRO is getting more and more to the right - he thinks. Guess you can't please everybody.

I sure don't want another entertainer. I want gripping, addictive, passionate advocacy radio. But without the monologues and rants which Randi Rhodes on Air America is all about. Bring her to Seattle and give her a local talk show and I think I'd like her. And since we already have so much of advocacy radio on the right, a little on the left isn't asking for very much! Seems to me.

How do I rate hosts? By who keeps me up at night! Webb did. Hart does sometimes. Ryder so far not at all. Procaccino . . . if morning becomes night, forget it. Jeffers could if he'd quit extrapolating on everything and move on.

Oh dear, rambling again. Wish they'd fix that station but I think it is in free fall and if Dave Ross doesn't return pretty soon, nobody's going to be listening!

Sparky sez,"Given the success of Fox News, the Wall Street Journal editorial pages, the Washington Times, the New York Post, The American Spectator, The Weekly Standard, the New York Sun, National Review, Commentary, Limbaugh, Drudge, etc., no sensible person can dispute the existence of a "conservative media."

Sparky, you couldn't be more wrong. O'Reilly at #1 cable is only 1/4 of the evening news of ABC,CBS, and NBC and he's described as an "entertainment show." When you read the morning paper in Seattle, Tacoma (owned by the Sacramento Bee, a very lib paper), Vancouver, and Portland, all articles other than local are posted from the bureaus of The New York Times, The Washington Post, or The Associated Press, all very liberal papers or wire services. The liberal papers dominate the Eastern coast, The South, and The West Coast with the Boston Globe (owned by the New York Times) The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Miami Herald, The Orlando Sentinal, The Atlanta Constitution, The Houston Chronicle, The Dallas Morning News, The San Diego Union-Tribune, The LA Times, The SF Chronicle, The Portland fishwrapper, and the Washington State dailies. The Wall Street Journal has a slant to the right in the editorial pages, but slants to the left in the news stories. It has a daily circulation of over 2 million nationwide but has also been declinging in numbers. The only paper with a large daily that is conservative in nature is the Washington Times which is only 1/7 the size of the Post, The Arizona Republic in Phoenix or maybe the paper in Salt Lake City. The other right leaning media yo mention have very small numbers of circulation, easily checked on the internet. The left leaning news dominate in every major city in the USA except a couple. The conservatives do pretty much control the radio talk shows that were started to counteract the liberal slant. The New York post is only 1/2 the size of the Times and must also compete with the NY Daily News which is just as loony as any of them. When I see the reporters on TV, the thing that I notice the most is how mean the attitudes are. David Gregory, Terry the Moron, John Roberts are just mean people and no respect at all towards the right and you hear it in their tone of voice. That old bag on the Today show is the meanest person on TV if you're a Republican and an ass kisser if you're a Dem followed closely by her second, Matt Lauer. Part of the reason for newspapers demise is the internet and blogs which update the news as it happens and leave sources to check for accuracy. So Sparky, with all due respect as you are one knowledgeable person (most of the time) you're way off base on your post.

chris

Lump dosen't like hard-hitting journalists like Gregory or Moran, nor can he explain how a 'liberal' newspaper like the NY Times sat on a story for a whole year so not to influence the outcome of a presidential election,(Bushler spying on amuricans) much like the so-called liberal Oregonian, when they sat on the Packwood scandal while the Wash Post broke the story. For shame Lump, for shame.

Fred

Long comments mean poor thinking. Short, to the point comments are much more likely to be worth reading. Save the mega responses for your own blogs!

Stephen Schwartz

Wth the exception of Tom Douglas, Dave Ross ... the rest of the new crew are either warmedn over compassionate consumptive (Monson) or insipid imitations of liberals w/o intelelct.

Erin Hart is the real thing, am intelelctual, ambitious beyond her radio show.

Derrin

Love him or hate him Mike Webb was the 2nd best thing on Kiro next to Dave Ross who is network material. Kiro should have given him the courtesy of a suspension pending the outcome of the trial. I understand that often corporate America often lives by different rules than the fifth amendment of the US constitution remember innocent until proven guilty? "No person shall be ... deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law". Kiro has falsely fired Webb and even if he is convicted of insurance fraud he is still under contract with Entercom. If they want to play the high moral character card that’s BS. They air the Rush Limbaugh show on KTTH and he was convicted of drug charges. I'm sure if they did background checks on everyone on air at every Entercom property they could write a very sleazy Jackie Collins book.
I think Webb with sue to get his job back and will win. The Ricker got his gig back at KISW after dropping one too may F bombs on air. He’s in Midday’s now but he’s got his job back after being fired. Stay tuned.

I wish someone could teach Erin Hart how to stay on topic and get her a really good producer that could keep her focused.
She studies the issues and knows what going on in the headlines better than anybody. HOWEVER, then the personal stuff starts. How can she really think that people are actually interested in hearing about her dog or her mom or her brother or the “fact” that she grew up in Colorado or is it Puerto Rico? She also has lived and or worked in every city in America. If Erin could keep her show edited down to an on topic discussion for the few hours she is on without talking to her engineer on air about how here headphones or buttons aren’t working. (Her cough button works, She hits it every 5 minutes or so)
I think she could be very listenable. Nothing is more boring than a person going on and on about themselves.

Understand Your Constitution

Derrin sez: "I understand that often corporate America often lives by different rules than the fifth amendment of the US constitution remember innocent until proven guilty? 'No person shall be ... deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.'"

Yeah...there's a reason for that. Because Constitutional restrictions like these apply *to the government*, not to people or corporations. (Oh, by the way, a job is neither life, nor liberty, nor property [although I will admit it's hard to have any of those without a job].)

It's the same thing with freedom of speech--you can't cry "first amendment" when private parties decide to censor something, only when the government does so.

Reminds me of earlier tonight when I heard New York Vinnie say we should have universal healthcare because "it says in our Constitution that we are entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and you can't have any of that when you're not healthy." (Never mind that that phrase was in the Declaration of Independence, which forms no part of the law of our land.) (And, by the way, I do agree people should have health care regardless of their ability to pay, I just thought this particular argument was kind of stupid.)

Andrew

If people are going to write five hundred words I wish they would atleast break their key points into paragraphs.

Like this.

sclub

Erin's too busy yelling at people around her to get focused. Her staff burn rate exceeds all others.

Steve

Erin Hart, are you kidding, she is the most annoying person on radio in Seattle

Andrew

Yelling at people - for any reason - is far more interesting than Turi Ryder's topic of the hour 'how bout that rain huh?' Turi Ryder is a pitchwoman for every other radio station.

sparky

Hey Fred....make me

How about putting the bad boys (the wonder Chimps) in the morning on 770am the truth, and move them too KIRO from 6:00pm tell 9:00pm Vinnie is a nice little Chubby Dude, but his show sucks, Mike Webbs wet soxs.
